Samsung S10e snapdragon 855 version is USB 2 or USB 3.1? Also is the sd card read and write gimped compared to the S10?
Unfortunately, it's 2.0. However I did copy about 4gb of movies in about 3 minutes. I think it had more to with the ufs storage vs emmc.

That is quite a disappointment. You would think usb 2 would slow down Dex.
Did you try a usb 3.1 usb cable?

I see quick charge 2 but no where does it say usb 2.0
I have no problem with usb 2 as I rarely ever usemh usb port. As long as it does not effect charging speed in the future or dex.
When using a proper USB 3.1 cable, it transfers data to and from PC much faster than USB 2.0 rate. Samsung cheaped out and only supplied a 2.0 cable, but my aftermarket cable definitely shows it's 3.1 spec.

Hi,
Make sure the drive is formatted to Fat32.
If you are rooted you can use the paragon ntfs app.

Correct. Note 10.1 does not have the power to handle a hdd, only flash drives.
You could try streaming from the drive to your note over wifi? Although that would only help at home.

Are you asking how to connect the HDD to your Note 10.1 or how to connect it AND get USB 3.0 speeds? I see you say that USB 2.0 is ok, so does that mean you can get it connected?
If you're trying to get a USB 3.0 connection, you won't be able to unless your Note 10.1 USB adapter supports USB 3.0.

Yes, I'm asking how to connect the HDD 3.0 to my Note 10.1. I tried to connect it to Asus Slider, it's ok. Samsung doesn't support for Note 10.1, while Note 10.1's hardware configuration is stronger than Asus Slider

Do you have any other USB hard drives or USB flash drives you can try? It sounds like a problem with your adapter. What kind of adapter are you using to get a USB port on your Note 10.1?

Hold up, you have a USB 2 USB flash drive that works or a USB 2 HDD that works?
No-one that's been on here has said they can get a portable HDD working. A message, "High Powered USB Device Has Been Detected" comes up and the HDD doesn't work. It has to be a powered HDD...
So, if you can get a USB 2 HDD working, powered by the Note, we want to know what brand, size and adaptor brand and where you got it...
Otherwise, no you can't use a Portable HDDon the note 10.1 unless it's powered... Forget USB 2 or 3, it just won't work...

Amen to that. My now-departed Toshiba THRiVE 10.1 had that capability and I miss having that feature on my Note.
Not sure you be lucky to get USB 3.0 to work since Note 10.1 has a 2.0 USB.
USB 3.0 is not backward compatible, same with PC that have only USB 2

USB 3.0 IS backward compatible with USB 2.0. I have a USB 3.0 HDD plugged into my PC's USB 2.0 ports right now. I just don't get USB 3.0 transfer speeds.
I'm with the majority on this one. I don't believe that the HDD being used is an externally powered HDD. The Note 10.1 can not power a USB HDD that large.

USB 3.0 is compatible with USB 2.0.
The only problem is HDD power and file system.
get a IDE/SATA to USB 2.0 Cable! or a USB Y cable.
so you can supply extra power to HDD.

Thus negating the portability of the note... If I want a Desktop I'll use the one I have already....
Only other option is to use a wifi enabled HDD (like Seagate Goflex satellite Pro in both 500Gb or 1Tb versions now)... Works fine but REALLY eats into your battery life....
Anybody ever tried with an external usb drive with ssd?
Still cheaper than sd cards and more convenient, but don't know if power from the note is sufficient

Bit expensive for something I can use a hell of a lot cheaper usb drive for... Not even sure it would work if the note detects its a HDD..
The problem is not that it's a hdd (a friend of mine has a 250gb drive which works fine when attached to my note, though it's not manufactured anymore), the problem is power. As i assume that an external drive with a ssd draws less power, it *should* work, but before actually buying one, I'd like to be sure

i also can trick my note to accept my xbox360 controller even while it should give the same message about high performance device.
(first i attach the x360 controller to the otg cabel and then i attach the otg cabel to my note...it works :victory
however i cant get my hdd to works with that method but many other tablets have no problems with high performance devices and thats because there is no restriction in the kernel.
is there a kernel for the note 10.1 that handles this problem ?

with the use of a ssd i wanted to circumvent the use of another kernel, because hopefully the ssd just doesnt need that much power. However i'm not certain about that, hence the question

I've spent a lot of time in the last week trying to see if my Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900T is actually capable of USB 3.0 in host mode. From my investigations to date, it isn't supported. Here is a brief summary of what I tried:
3 different USB 3.0 OTG Cables
[*]Custom built kernel to enable logging of xHCI driver[*]Modified xHCI driver source to cause an extra reset on the USB 3 port when USB 2 port shows a connect
Never saw a change of the USB 3 port status register in the xHCI controller[*]Modified xHCI driver source to disable USB 2 port when a connection happens then reset USB 3 port
Never saw a change of the USB 3 port status register in the xHCI controller[*]Connected phone through USB 3 protocol analyzer to see if it was making any attempt to negotiate a USB 3 link.
No sign phone was trying USB 3 link negotiation.[*]Used modified windows xhci driver to attempt to read the OTG Descriptor defined in the latest USB OTG Spec
Phone returned Stall, meaning it doesn't support that descriptor
It's still possible that the phone will support USB 3 OTG. It may be that there is some signalling to switch the USB 3 port from device to host mode that isn't currently in the code. I did do some looking for this but haven't found anything yet.
I'll update this thread if I get any new, hopefully encouraging, information.

Yes it will work just fine. The new cable just won't work any better.
Look on the bright side. now if one cable breaks you have a backup.
Atleast the usb 3.0 cables work with 2.0

Have you found out any more information on the subject? I've tried to get USB 3.0 OTG working on the N900 (Exynos) and N9005 (Snapdragon) variants with no success.
Do you know of any other developers who have had any success? Or does anyone know if contacting Samsung would be worthwhile?

I've got an existing OTG cable with micro USB. Does that work for things like thumb drives and mice using the adapter?

It comes with a USB-C to USB-A adapter in the box. You should be able to plug your thumb drive or mouse into that.

I don't know why they would get rid of something as old as OTG support so I'm assuming that yes it will work.
yes otg works and the samsung smart switch lets you plug one phone into the other and transfer data
Just reading through the AT&T manual: it states clearly that OTG will not work through the supplied USB connector (p9). Nor can you use it to charge the Note 7 from a computer (p12).
With built-in battery too - hope the Note 7 isn't just another pretty fetish.

Well all of the above work on my T-Mobile variant.
On my t-mobile Note 7, I cannot get my Dragonfly Red to work via USB OTG.

I can't get my Oppo HA-2 DAC to work at all. I tried using the included adapters but nothing. I went and bought a USB - USB C cable and that also didn't work. The only way I have been able to get audio is to use a standard charging cable (USB - MicroUSB) and put the USB C adapter on the MicroUSB end. However this charges the Oppo from the Note 7 and I can't disable that. Will burn through the battery in no time! Not sure what else to try at this stage
+1 I have successfully used a SanDisk 8gb flash drive with an aftermarket Rankle usb adapter. I have an AT&T Note 7.

I use the included USB-USB C adapter with a USB -USB Mini(?) and my Fiio Alpen. As you mentioned, the Note7 charges the DAC. This also happened with my Note4. You should be able to use a wireless charging pad to charge the Note7 at the same time. That's what I did when I was transferring files between phones. It's transportable but not very mobile.
My little micro usb fan does NOT work with the included usb 3 to microusb connector. So, i'm gonna assume OTG doesnt work as it used to.
I tried plugging in a USB 3.0 flash drive to the included USB-C to USB-A adapter that came with my phone, but the drive is running at 2.1 speeds. I tried a 3rd party hub that has USB-C to HDMI and USB-A 3.0, but the flash drive isn't even recognized by the system. Does the Galaxy S8 even support USB host mode at 3.0 or 3.1 speeds?

What's more confusing is when I connect the stock USB-C to USB-A cable that came with the phone to my PC's USB 3.0 port, it comes in as a USB2.1 device... I think Samsung might have gone cheap on the USB 3.1 controller on the phone...
So, I went to Best Buy today and bought a USB-C to USB-A 3.1 adaptor, plugged my 3.0 USB Flash drive into it and my S8 recognized it as a 3.0 device instead of 2.1. So yes, the USB-C to USB-A dongle included with the S8 is in fact only a USB-A 2.1 port, but the S8 itself is capable of 3.0 at least. In addition, I got a USB-A 3.1 to USB-C cable and checked the USB mode on my PC and it registered as 3.1, so it looks like the cable included with the charger is also 2.1 and not 3.0/3.1
I'd like to connect an external SSD to my Pixel 4a. The SSD I'm looking at uses a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port connection. Is that possible and do I need OTG cable or can I just use USB C cable that came with the 4a? Thanks....

Backward compatible - any USB-C connector should work, higher gen gives you faster transfers speed. Just hook it up and look for the drive in 'storage' and 'files' app.
