Can someone check your 3a box? I haven't opened mine but I noticed on my box there are two IMEIs. IMEI1 and IMEI2 along with an esim ID. Does that mean it's dual-sim? I tried looking up the IMEIs on swappa and they come back with nothing found.

The 3a has one esim and one regular slot.
For me (Android Pie) a simultaneous operation is not possible.

Only one SIM need be physical; the Pixel 3a and 3a XL support e-SIMs. (A surprise for me is that - for a rather odd reason - my own 3a was able to swallow a micro-SIM - specifically the one from my S7 Snapdragon - which it replaced. No - I did NOT modify or otherwise fiddle with the SIM - it was a straight swap.)
The box has 2 IMEIs but *#06# and the bootloader only shows one.
Do any UK operators offer eSIM?

If you don't know about it, how would you know to avoid it? Mine was the first post in this thread to point out that the VZW model doesn't support an eSIM, prior posts simply made blanket claims like your's, that "the Pixel 3a and 3a XL support e-SIMs."

Between XDA and Reddit there are hundreds of posts and threads regarding this on the Verizon Pixel 3 and the 3XL. With the 3a being very similar to the 3 it would have been prudent to wait a day after release or asked about it prior to purchase. (or even assumed that the eSim was disabled) When it comes to VZW you need to look before you leap to see what they have crippled on each device. In this case it's locked bootloader and disabled eSim. If you really need the eSim then you might want to try and get your money back being they sold you a phone that was crippled for your purposes.
Dual SIM/Dual standby is working for me on the latest beta.
eSIM is from Freedom mobile in Canada and I tested a physical SIM by borrowing a Koodo SIM from someone.

Are there any particular steps you need to take to get it to work? Where is the menu for it? Does it specify which sim you use for data? If you can post a few screenshots that would be great.

Avoiding a specialty model - such as the Verizon version - is usually quite easy; don't buy from Verizon or the carrier thus favored. The Pixel 3a (as a series) is the most widely available in Pixel history - even TracFone is selling them. (And TracFone is not exactly known for selling many mid-range phones.) Besides, who sells the Verizon model other than Verizon?

If you can't find them already on Amazon and EBay (new stock, not used), they certainly will be showing up there soon. Even worse is when sellers are purposefully vague on the exact model (ie is it a Verizon model or not). Verizon is a plague on the entire Android environment IMHO!
I for one am thankful when users point out the limitations of different models in threads where appropriate. It doesn't matter that the information might be available in other forums or other threads as well. For example, I did not realize the Verizon model had the esim disabled until I read this thread. I don't own a Verizon model so I haven't paid as much attention to it as other models, but I am still better off for having read that information in this thread.

I get that part but on the iPhone there is a way to enable data on one sim and voice and text on the other all the while having dual active ability for incoming calls. I can't do the beta but as soon as it's released in September I'm all in. There was a menu where you can select those options. Any such thing on this?

Optionally you can use the Fi app, as Google Fi supports e-SIMs as well; that is what I did (running beta 5/RC1 of Q). In my case, I'll be using Fi as a backup (keeping Tracfone as my primary).

There is - however, the catch is that you must be running Q (which supports simultaneous dual-SIM operation). I have no reason to do so (as I use wi-fi primarily for data - and will only use Fi itself in areas where standard Tracfone service is not available, but wi-fi is; hence dual-SIM operation has no point).

I know you need Q to enable the feature, I just wanted to know if you can chose which sim would be used for data when not on wifi. DSDS is useful for me because I have two phone numbers I'd like to have active on incoming calls. As of now I can't do that. I have to activate one and the other then goes to voice mail. On the iPhone there is a way to chose which line is primary, secondary and which will use data. I was looking for those menu options on Q if they are there.
Yes, you choose which sim (or esim) you prefer for data. For outgoing calls and text you can either select a default, or have it ask everytime (it's easy to change even when you pick a default).

It's also worth noting that data limits and roaming options apply on a per Sim basis

I'm looking to buy a new Pixel 2 XL when it comes out. Researching the handset I found that it uses a new SIM, e-sim. Originally I thought it was a smaller SIM, however it looks like it's now a tiny chip permanently on the phones board.
I thought that this would act as a normal SIM, just unable to remove it from phone. However before spending money on the phone I wanted to confirm it would work OK on my network.
I'm currently with Sky Mobile in the UK and I asked them if they will support the e-sim and they were pretty vague and unsure if they would support it. Called a second person and got the same non-committal answer.
Anyone here know if it will work?
Many thanks
Tim
it may come different internationally, in the US a lot of networks didn't use sims while the UK and the rest of the world that uses GSM always has, this is only changing in america now that 4G is common as it is a GSM standard so requires a sim.
so I wouldn't worry about it yet, Google still hasn't officially announced the phones and on nearly every phone the US and international versions are different as outside of the US we use a lot more bands.
so basically wait for the official announcement as it wouldn't be anywhere close to the first time a US phone has had no actual sim while the international version have and it seems more likely this is geared towards keeping the US away for actually needing to start using sims in every device since their networks are a lot more tied down.
the non committal answer is likely due to the fact the phone hasn't been announced so the likes of EE who will actually stock it won't be allowed to answer if they have been pre briefed, while the other networks who wont stock the phone likely wont have any information until after the phone is announced and they start asking google.
It just occurred to me that the esim is going to suck for traveling abroad

My question is, if someone like me and a lot of others like to change phones often, how will we go about doing so?
Now we would just pop out our sim and put it in a different phone. How does the E-sim work? Once our numbers are on them I guess the nano/micro sims we have now are trash?

do you have a pixel xl, I guess if it was really important to you a pixel xl is still an amazing phone. I just got mine 2 months ago for around $500 on ebay brand new. Man it's such a sick phone. I really love it. Of course I want the new one but am really happy.
Hopefully the esim is just as easy to switch, would be nice if there was a tool where we could program it.
It will probably be like older CDMA phones. You will have to deactivate the phone and e-sim first before you can switch carriers. Once it is deactivated you will just have to give your carrier the IMEI and ICCID. Kind of a pain and you will lose your number due to deactivation unless you have a temporary phone to swap to but there should be no more missing sim card errors!
I had the regular Pixel. Sold it. Am playing with the Essential (it's not as bad as all these reviews). So I guess if I get the new Pixel 2 XL, I won't be able to swap sims back and forth?
Prediction: e-SIM won't be easy to switch, and older plans (e.g., Verizon grandfathered unlimited data plans) won't be permitted on the e-SIM as being "not compatible".
Just another means for carriers to take away control from end users. C'est la vie!
Definitely not keen on the idea of not being able to swap my sim from phone to phone. The few times I'd need to switch are usually emergency situations. I hope this rumor is wrong.
The idea of esim is still confusing for me, can anyone explain it to me?

from my understanding the "SIM chip" is already in the phone and using serials and such I'm guessing there will be some black magic at the network end where they can push the SIM data to the chip on the phone, it may even end up like some of the older phones (more heard of it on the Apple side) where you actually have to go into the networks shop and have them activate the handset, either way I can see this being short lived as most of the world has used SIM cards since time began, so in these countries it will likely put a lot of people off if they have to keep dealing with the networks more so than they do now to get the network lock removed down the line.
Here in Germany you get a paper with a qr code. Just scan it and everything else happens automatically.
I hope everyone saw the announcement today, but if you haven't yet, the esim is for project Fi only. It will still have a sim tray for other carriers.

On my Pixel 3 I cannot activate Project Fi. I assume it would automatically use eSim or give me the option to? However it does not. It has asks me to install a Sim.
I installed eSim switcher and have the option to add a carrier but I still cannot get it to work, just says cannot be activated try again later.
I would kind to know if there is a way to tell if my eSim has been disabled?
The Verizon models need to be activated on VZW for 24 hours before they become available to use on another carrier.
Nope, eSim is disabled.
When I was ready to order mine, I chatted at Google and I was told any pixel 3 bought from any of the sources (Google, Fi, best buy, Verizon) would be physically the same and would all allow for future Fi through esim. It took a bit of back and forth to explain that I didn't want to use it or activate it or start a fi account right away, but it should work the same.

You are correct, you are going to need to either return it or use a Verizon sim and Fi Esim, although I'm not sure that will work at this point. That really sucks though. The reason it's eSim locked is that with it enabled you could take the device to any carrier immediately. They don't like that since you probably bought it on a deal like bogo or a payment plan over 24 months. If you bought it on a Verizon plan then they also want the early termination fee. There is a new revision of eSim that can lock the phone but it's on hold while the DOJ investigates. Personally, do yourself a favor and return it ASAP and perhaps take the hit on the return fee. You might be able to negotiate it down due to the eSim lock.
FYI, the Pixel 2 are eSim unlocked as well as the Apple Watch Series 3 but that's it for now. Let's see what happens when the gorilla comes into the game. Should be an interesting fight and I'm not sure Verizon can stand up to Apple for long.
I returned the device and ordered one from Google. Lesson learned, gave up my free stand and paying restocking fee lol
Glad I seen this thread, just canceled my Pixel 3 from Verizon and offered mine through Google. (Back Ordered)
Thank You

My friend was not able to sign up for Google Fi using eSIM though.
Also, I switched to a T-Mobile SIM, and I don't see an easy way to open the eSIM Manager app. Not sure if this is normal or not - i.e. it seems to have GUI according to the store page but the "Open" link does not appear for me, nor is it in the apps list. Also no mention of eSIM in Mobile Settings. I guess maybe my OS build is a Verizon version?

I don't believe it has anything to with a Verizon version of the software, especially considering there is no such thing. There is only on version that we all use.

That's a great thread, very informative. I heard that on Dec 7th the iPhone XR and XS were to be Verizon eSim active but I've not confirmed that yet. They are fighting tooth and nail to keep the tech out of people's hands, even dropping secondary sims down to 2G. But Apple will put the hammer down and then it will roll out to us lowly Pixel people eventually.

Nice thread, but there are accounts of Verizon disabling eSIM: https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/a4ispi/tmobile_us_esim_is_working_on_pixel_3xl/. The question is how?
I heard that Pixel 3 boxes from Google have ESIM ID printed. However, mine from Verizon has SIM ID, which matches the physical SIM card inside the phone. I actually don't know how to find the EID.
My Pixel 3 box that was purchased from direct from Google does have an ESIM ID number printed on the box.

Yeah I saw that but I don't believe it. They just haven't activated it yet I doubt they have purposely disabled it. It's live now for the iPhone but not yet for the Pixel 3. I might give them a call to find out when it will be activated but I don't have much hope in getting a csr that even knows what I'm talking about.
edit: nothing doing. They don't know when we'll have support on the 3s. I do wonder if someone took a vzw P3 / XL and could get the eSim activated on ATT or Fi.
Has anyone tried scanning the QR code generated on verizon's site? I generated the QR code on my Verizon account, but decided against scanning it for now... I'm traveling this week and can't afford to be down a phone. I didn't want it to disable my physical SIM and not active the eSIM, and somehow get stuck in limbo.
I have a Pixel 3 from the Google Store that I want to activate on Verizon via eSIM. Currently, I have the physical SIM from Verizon in the phone. However, with international travel coming up, I want to free up the physical SIM for international SIMs.
Does anyone know if Verizon will do this? It seems their web guides all reference the iPhones as the only eSIM devices they register. I'd assume it's as simple as them just adding the EID/IMEI, device being irrelevant.
This guide from Reddit is the best thing I could find on any steps, and I still had a rep tell me that they can't do it because it's not an iPhone.

Can't be done. Probably not until the P4 is released in October and even then maybe not. I think you would have an easier time getting the international one on the eSim since they are well ahead of us in that technology. The only other option is getting Fi on the eSim since they have a pretty good international plan. https://fi.google.com/about/international-rates/
Yes. Right now Verizon is only doing esim with iPhones.
Hi all,
I am currently on the right mood to bring it back on Monday.
NO APPS installed except WhatsApp and drains battery like hell.
Doesn't get to 6hrs screen time.
Disabled dc dimming, wifi scan and everything else the web might have mentioned about saving battery.
Even blocked Google Play Services from accessing gps (as last test).
Apparently there is no app sucking more than the others, it is just what you use that drains way too much battery.
FYI I am in London with no 5g coverage (north London), no network switch issues, indeed.
Last update has been installed.
Give your thoughts.

Hi,
I'm in Manchester, but only issue I have had is lack of dual SIM function. Does yours have dual SIM? Thanks in advance.
No dual SIM here.
What about your battery?
Could you publish your screen on time etc?
Mine suffered from lots of phantom touches, requiring multiple reboots and was also single SIM.
I also complained to EE as they said on their website that the phone shipped with USB-C headphones, but nothing was included in the box.
...Mine has already been sent back; it's simply not worth the cost at the moment with the flakey camera, phantom touches & the relative lack of 5G coverage (I'm in West London so don't get 5G unless at work)
I phoned them this morning and they told me that the handset can be returned only IF has been pre-ordered. If bought in-store while it was in stock (test in store for them), then there is no 14/30 days return policy. Who did you buy it? Pre-order or store?

Mine was a pre-order, but also via their website, which means they have to honour the 14 days distance selling rules, even on an upgrade
If you're desperate to return, just say you are unhappy with the coverage. The store will then return it for you.
The fact that their is no dual SIM support is ridiculous. Battery life has been ok-ish for me, not great but not the worst I've seen. I missed the part on the EE website where it said "USB type-c headphones included" I might complain about that too. But for me, it's just the lack of clarity as to whether we can flash the latest firmware version from the OnePlus website as no sod knows who actually supports the device...EE or OnePlus...

only other issue I have is OnePlus alarm clock does not ring so have to use google clock

esim is not same as dual sim
pixel 2 xl is single sim phone but supports esim so you can load a business number as a ESIM and switch in OS to other sim.

Sorry missed the point of your original post. Yes OnePlus could have chosen that option, although I don't believe there's much demand for a non DSDS solution. Might as well just swap physical sims in such circumstances.
Re dual sim- is it something that a dual sim adapter can fix? Or does this mean the hardware itself does not support dual sim? Could replacing ee-locked firmware with unlocked firmware fix it?

Mine suffered from lots of phantom touches, requiring multiple reboots and was also single SIM.
I also complained to EE as they said on their website that the phone shipped with USB-C headphones, but nothing was included in the box.
...Mine has already been sent back; it's simply not worth the cost at the moment with the flakey camera, phantom touches & the relative lack of 5G coverage (I'm in West London so don't get 5G unless at work)

Hey, I pre-ordered as well but i cant find where on the website it mentioned the usb-c headphones, could you share the link please?
Also, my battery life seems fine to be honest, however, my internet simply does not work. It is constantly disconnecting and i dont know if anybody else is also experiencing this problem.
so just to confirm the phone does not have dual sim ability when purchased on EE?
I thought all oneplus devices were unlocked and came with the ability to use 2 sims.
The last oneplus phone i purchased i got from O2 and this was dual sim and unlocked.
can someone please clarify

thanks for the reply
hope this does not mean that the phone from EE does not come with all their junk installed on it also and cant be unlocked to use on another network
As the title states, I have a T-Mobile OP 7 pro thats been converted to international. I already have the dual sim tray in it and have used it with a verizon sim in slot one and google fi in slot two. Only verizon required the imei to be attached to the sim. Google fi was pop it in and go.
Both lines worked perfectly with that set up.
I'm about to be using a verizon sim and a red pocket sim on att network in it. Thats going to require me to report the imei to redpocket to activate the sim sim same as verizon.
Will only haveing the one imei reported to both carriers be an issue? and is there a way to retrieve the second imei from the phone?+
I tried searching the forums and couldn't really find an answer.
As long as your 2 sims are on different networks for example one on AT&T and one on T-mobile you should be ok. The only time you might run into an issue is if you are using an mvno's sim that uses the same network as your primary. I'm doing that right now (also on a t-mobile op7 converted to international with dual sim tray) with T-mobile as my 2ndary and soon to be gone sim and Ultra Mobile as my Primary (which also uses t-mobile's network)......T-Mobile has been reported multiple times not to pay attention to this. Other networks may not be so forgiving. To answer your last questions...there IS no second imei to retrieve. The device was intended to be a single sim device so no 2nd one was allocated. The fact it works with the same imei in both is luck more than anything else.

Thanks for the reply, the second part is what I really wasn't sure of if the phone just hid the second IMEI or if it actually didn't have one.
I should be good then. I got the AT&T Redpocket sim and main will be Verizon.

Don't quote me on this, but from days with the 6T, I'm pretty sure it's just not reported in the software correctly but on the network side there are actually two different IMEID.
You should be able to (at least on Verizon) to log in and see the IMEID that is attached to a SIM.
Try the VZW sim in slot 1 and check online for the imei. Log out and switch the sim to slot 2 and check again. Hopefully you should see a different imei. Please let us know what you find out.

@blooddragon78 couple questions for you, as I also have OP7P that I bought from t-mo and switched to international:
- Were you able to use the sim tray that came with the phone? Or did you buy an aftermarket tray? I've heard mixed messages about the tray from t-mo having physical space for 2 sim cards.
- Did you have to unlock your phone to make use of the dual SIM functionality? Or in other words, are you still making device payments to t-mo?

I purchased a dual Sim tray from Amazon. The Sim tray from T-mobile will not fit 2 Sim cards. I'm a t-mobile tech expert so I do know for sure aside from owning one and doing it. For dual Sim to work the device does need to be unlocked as it only has one imei. If you didn't unlock before the conversion you will need to convert back to get the unlock app to be able to unlock.
There were a couple of threads on xda to get unlocked in the system but you still have to run the app. Not sure if they are active still.
If you need some help dm me.
Help with Op 7 Pro Sprint Unlocked version
Hello, I sent you a private message @blooddragon78, but Imma post here as well to see if anyone else can help me out, I'll greatly appreciate it. I came across this thread on being able to convert a T-mobile OP 7 Pro to the international version and enabling dual sim functionality. I was hoping to do the same as well, but I havent made the purchase yet in case it's not doable. Im currently looking at this OP7 Pro (Sprint version) that was factory unlocked and sold on Amazon (it's the OP 7 Pro sold at USD 499 by the Farmug Store) (if will be great if you guys can check and see the product to know what I mean exactly).
My question is what is the difference and meaning between "factory unlock/ phone unlocked" vs "sim unlocked" vs "unlocked bootloader?" I know this phone is unlocked for use on different carriers (and I live in Malaysia even), but how do I convert the phone to the international version so that I can receive updates from OnePlus directly (and not through the carrier)?
And how do I enable the dual sim functionality? Do I need to unlock the bootloader? Am I able to do that myself? Because I got confused as some people say unlocking the sim can only be done by the carrier, but Im not sure what is the difference of that with unlocking the bootloader.
In addition, say if Im able to convert it to the international version and get updates from OnePlus directly, dual sim functionality is enabled and such. Will updating the OS of the phone automatically (not doing it manually) lock the network/ brick the phone?
