Why It is possible to overclock just at 1.3?

Hi guys.
I wanted to ask you something, because in our sl i9003 is the maximum possible overclock 1300 mhz?
The Artex-A8 processor is not it?
It should be a very powerful processor, but even though I've always overclocchi various lag to 1.3, with any rom.
And my device has no flaws ..
So, back to the main question .. because the maximum overclock is only 1.3?
Now I'm using the rom with the look dell's3 and formatted EXT4 but is slow and full of lag .. Help!

No , he would be know why for our phone the max overclock is 1.38 ghz.. I would it know to..

Our Max is 1.45(I think can't rmb). Each chip has different oc capabilities, my g3 could oc from 667mhz to 1.4ghz with no problems .

Well, you can easly push your phone at 1500MHz (BCK kernel feature: Evolved sysfs interface for variable overclock or underclock), but the phone is not usable. I tried once to slowly change the frequency to see my limit and @1400MHz the phone became unusable.
Other than being unstable because, quoting XDA_Bam, "Anything more than 10% higher than the highest stock frequency is likely to be unstable", I think the voltage set for the 5th OPP is too low for anything higher than 1300MHz (maybe I'm wrong).
Proof? here.
Actually, this is "fake". To take this screenshot I had first disabled the 5th OPP, then I changed its frequency so that CPU Spy showed 1500MHz even though I wasn't really using it. The time spent at that frequency was actually the time the CPU spent at 1200MHz before I had disabled the 5th OPP
I did that to show you that it's actually possible to (easly) change the max frequency to anything higher 1380MHz.
EDIT:
And BTW devs are continuosly improving this device, we were first limited to 1100MHz, now some phones are stable at 1300MHz. Remember that our cousing (I9000) is older and has a huge community.

You are wrong: the CPUs are different
i9003 has TI OMAP 3630 1GHz and i9000 has Samsung S5PC110 1GHz (code-named "Hummingbird")
Cortex A8 is just instructions and specifications for CPU. It's like DX10 for GPU. You can say Nvidia XXX card supports DX10 and AMD YYY supports it, why clocks for these cards and overclock potential are different?

I think the cpu of the i9000 is wors then the from i9003 so why is the i9000 overclocked to 50% and in our is it only 35%?
Cuold we not work on an overclock like 1.45 ghz for our phone ? Would it be unstable or is it because we need developers that can make it stable?

But can anybody tell me that whats the use of such higher OC (1.45ghz) when u can do same stuffs smoothly on 1.2 ghz easily??? Also OC looks very attractive feature but in my opinioin its a deadly battery killer feature. OC upto 1.35 ghz is more than sufficient (I am satisfied with 1ghz max with superb performance & good battery backup).
Instead of wasting time on overclocking developers should work on overclocking gpu, kernel 3.0 or video codec, video recording in cm7, cm9, miui, aosp roms. Because for now thats a big problem for our phone.

I am with you, we reached the limits of "smoothness" really (On stable roms, we shouldn't blame hardware when using buggy or incompletete roms or even stupid samsung roms.)
It would be better if devs focus on the GPU.

Remember when OCing just happened on our device? we were limited to 1080 Ghz, then to 1100 Ghz, then to 1200 Ghz/1300 Ghz, and now 1380 Ghz, devs will always figure out a way to squeeze more power and keep it stable, it needs time and effort.
The Galaxy S has a different CPU (That has lower OC potential then ours theoretically if i remember correctly) but has a bigger number of developers, it was released in 2010, our device was released in 2011 so it is kinda new.

Yes of cours but some developers can't fix this bugs.. But maybe they are able to overclock the phone (like uc team) and i think it's not a battery killer.. If i have battery problems i buy for 10 € a new battery.. Some games and if i have 2 apps open the phon is luggy.. Maybe with an haiey overclock it will be smoother

Remember guys, even if you OC the CPU, there will always be the weight of our outdated GPU dragging us down. Even if we OC to 1.45Ghz, you will always experience little bits of lag due to our PowerVR530. If I compare my friend's stock I9000 (No Mods, No Root, No OC:1Ghz) to my I9003 (with OC 1.38Ghz). My friend's I9000 will always be smoother due to both an advanced CPU and GPU.

Only their GPU is superior..
If someone could OC the gpu, we can probably reach their performance.

But in the next version 9.1 they stated that they lowered the OC, (Still OCed) and this is the latest working version.
V9.1:
-Fix problems in recovery.
-Reduce overclock gpu to 220Mhz.
-Voltage ajustement.

Overlocking GPU??

recently i came across overlocking GPU.. in sense4a built by derefas made GPU overlocked to 220 n he mensioned that its safe.. is i dont think it wont create any problem.. some problem ll exist.. can anybody know that problem?? and overlocking to 220 means now we have adreno220 ?? is it like dat?? n i google it but i saw that for adreno220 it clock speed would be 1.2Ghz to 1.5GHz(acc. to this site - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imageon). so that rom has gpu overlocked n cpu optional, it means iguess it make some problem.. can anybody explain me pros n cons..:fingers-crossed:

The dev's have had their phone's NAND memory fried due to overclocking the Processor. I don't have info about the GPU.

No, it ain't like that. The chip is embedded, and can't change.
Our Chipset is MSM7225A (according to http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=3073&c=htc_explorer_htc_pico) and the GPU supported is Adreno 200 (enhanced) according to (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)).
The Adreno 200 was said to support the following in the wikipedia site.
Adreno 200 (AMD Z430) inside the QSD8x50 (1 GHz) and MSM7x27 (600 MHz A11+L2 cache). It offers a programmable function pipeline and streaming textures with support for OpenGL ES 2.0, OpenGL ES 1.1, OpenVG 1.1, EGL 1.4, Direct3D Mobile, SVGT 1.2 and DirectDraw. (22M triangles/second, 133M pixels/second, clock speed up to 128 MHz).

Even some googling didn't help in finding the clocking speed of our GPU. According to wikipedia, it supports 128 MHz.
Note that it was for the devices QSD8x50 (1 GHz) and MSM7x27.
But, an enhanced GPU is supported in our Chip. So, I got the following info from the Qualcomm website.

This GPU is a leap forward in visual graphics quality from OpenGL-Es 1.x, which enables developers to implement effects that were previously a daunting task. And, so, I summarized that an enhanced GPU, in our chip, has a normal clocking speed of around 200 MHz, and it can be overclocked. How this is done, and all the other stuff, the developers might help you. And, if its safe... I also read that overclocking a little wouldn't harm. So, I guess it's safe.
Anyways, the Pros are that you would get a little extra fps, so you could "expect" a little improvement in gaming and video playback.
The Cons... Well, anyone using an overclocked GPU for long might know.

When overclocked the textures are rendered little quicker than normal clocking. It won't double the frame rate as some guy doubted. Look at the details of our CPU and gpu.

[GUIDE][9500] Galaxy S4 CPU/GPU Overclocking and Undervolting

Overclocking and undervolting is highly debatable, some say its good and some say its bad... so its upto you to decide and proceed further
First rule of overclocking.. Your Mileage May Vary​
Most of the people here in xda do know about overclocking and stuffs but still there are many who are so eager to overclock their device . Hence this guide.
I have given some good info below about these stuffs as far as i can , you can always use google to get further details.
What is overclocking?
Overclocking is the process of making a computer or component operate faster than the specified clock frequency by the manufacturer by modifying system parameters. One of the most important techniques is running at a higher clock rate (more clock cycles per second; hence the name "overclocking")
Operating voltages may also be changed (increased), which can increase the speed at which operation remains stable.
Advantage:
You can get more performance from your chipset, though s4 is already fast you can see the visible changes in application execution time and much more like instant response time.
Disadvantage:
* Overclocking is always risky if something is configured improperly and may also result in permanent damage to your hardware. As long as it is done safely you are good to go.
* You may see some increased power consumption.
* Extreme overclocking might kill your hardware.
Undervolting :
The process where you provide less voltage to your cpu rather than the stock voltage.
Advantage:
* Reduced heat from your device.
* Good battery life.
Disadvantage:
* Extreme undervolting will make your device unstable and some times even end up with a boot loop.
Apart from the voltage table defined below for exynos the below mentioned data are common for 9500/9505
Overclocking in Exynos Octa:
Exynos 5410 is already one among the best performing chipset available, so overclocking this device is not going to give us any visible performance improvements except the benchmark scores. Underclocking is a different story on 9500, since the cpu temperature easily reaches upto 90C (90C is the throttle temperature defined for this device in the kernel, so its normal) undervolting the device will help in reducing the overall temperature of the device considerably. I highly recommend undervolting the device instead of overclocking it.

Though the cpu frequency table has steppings upto 2ghz the max stable clock i have seen so for on s4 is 1800mhz.
Requirements:
1. Kernel with overclocking/undervolting support.
2. stweaks or android tuner to change frequency/voltage.(you can use the app of your choice here).
3. set cpu and stability test to test the stability of CPU.
4. Some patience.
The below mentioned steps are common for 9500/9505
Step 1:
Set the current clock and voltage you want to test via android tuner/stweaks. (Select max frequency in cpu tab).
Example:
*If you want to test under volting for 1.4 ghz with 1050 mv (1100 is the default) then set 1.4 ghz as max clock and 1050mv as its voltage.
*If you want to test overclocking @ 1.7 ghz with 1150 mv (1200 is the default) then set 1.7 ghz as max clock and 1150 mv as its voltage.
Step 2:
Open set cpu's cpu stress test and run it for atleast 10 minutes. If you didnt get any errors or hang during the testing period and if the test completed successfully then the clock is ready for daily use
Step 3:
Now for undervolting use the same tools and reduce the voltage by -25mv.
Repeat step 2.
you can reduce the voltage further by -25 mv after every successful completion of stress test (Advanced users can try reducing -50mv )
Step 4:
Repeat step 1,2 and 3 for every possible cpu clock you see in android tuner/stweaks.
Note the stable cpu voltage for every clock, once you finish testing all your clock values save it as a profile and/or set it on boot.
Voila !!! now you have finished overclocking/ under voting your device.
Notes:
1. Never ever use set on boot option until you find the stable clock and voltage settings.
2. Not all chips are capable of running at higher speeds like 1800 mhz. Those speeds are highly experimental.
3. Recommended max overclocking is 1700 mhz.
4. If your device gets hotter allow the device to cool for few minutes before starting the test.
5. Either use stweaks or android tuner(or some other app), dont mix up.
6. Combining the overclocking and undervolting will give you the best of both the worlds
In case of emergency:
1. If your device becomes unstable and not responsive either press the power button until your device restarts or pull out your battery.
2. Android tuner has an option to create flashable zip for resetting the voltage table, use it if needed.

I do not know if am I doing it right or doing it wrong, but my phone runs without the (very occasional) hiccups and is as cool as it can be....and dat wat metters to me

hmm, with 400Mhz more You have same results as stock? something is wrong, maybe settings do not apply or overheating is causing cpu throttling down so scores are so low.

Every chips has different mileage, even if his chip runs at 2ghz, it will throttle down in very few seconds.

thanks for the valuable input, but i differ on one thing. am using a 2Ghz overclock and is rock stable. using the GPU in the highest clock too....am attaching the STweaks values, battery and antutu score for the same. the device runs very cool too...hope this helps somone.
I do not know if am I doing it right or doing it wrong, but my phone runs without the (very occasional) hiccups and is as cool as it can be....and dat wat metters to me

Which Kernel are u using??? I assume ure using Perseus 4... Ive heard and read on some forums that ver 4 has some problems with Camera/Sound etc issues???

absolutely Zero issues.....camera opens at the blink of an eye. Am on wanams MEA firmware, trimmed and themed by me according to my need.

tried oc upto to 1.8 ghz today and yes, im impressed
quadrant gave something around 14,500 and geekbench scored 4k+

I increased the voltages as advised by u but the quadrant results are around 13000 benchmark...
I'm currently using Omega 8/Perseus 3.4 along with the cross breeder....
My phones very snappy but just wondering about the quadrant result... Is there anything I'm missing???

clock ur cpu at 1.8 ghz , u will get some similar scores

mine is not so stabel something i manage to complete gfx berch and someting not on 700 on stock voltages!

performance = always max cpu frequency (Not for daily use!!!)
interactive provides a good performance.

Can anyone over clock Exynos 7870 GPU to 1.5Ghz or +,i'm not developer only some of little bit game lover & web developer ,I use many kernel and Roms that support
1.7 Ghz CPU and 1.1Ghz GPU but when ever I play any game even on high frequency game lagging ,even on 1.4Ghz CPU frequency result is same ,mean over clock GPU help better performance on system and Gaming.
Hope any person understand me. Please do something that help Exynos 7870 users.

Hardware limitations exist mind you... Devs just can't keep pushing OC beyond a certain point. That point for the GPU of the phone exists at around 1000-1146 MHz while for CPU the highest fully stable OC is at around 1690 MHz while some kernels try to push to around 1920 MHz but some devices at this stage crash or are very unstable so no one can push any higher unless you want your hardware to be toast that is by supplying enough voltage to sustain those clocks...
