Hi guys.
I wanted to ask you something, because in our sl i9003 is the maximum possible overclock 1300 mhz?
The Artex-A8 processor is not it?
It should be a very powerful processor, but even though I've always overclocchi various lag to 1.3, with any rom.
And my device has no flaws ..
So, back to the main question .. because the maximum overclock is only 1.3?
Now I'm using the rom with the look dell's3 and formatted EXT4 but is slow and full of lag .. Help!
Thanks.
I'm wrong or sI9000 can be overclocked more with the same cpu?

Well, you can easly push your phone at 1500MHz (BCK kernel feature: Evolved sysfs interface for variable overclock or underclock), but the phone is not usable. I tried once to slowly change the frequency to see my limit and @1400MHz the phone became unusable.
Other than being unstable because, quoting XDA_Bam, "Anything more than 10% higher than the highest stock frequency is likely to be unstable", I think the voltage set for the 5th OPP is too low for anything higher than 1300MHz (maybe I'm wrong).
Proof? here.
Actually, this is "fake". To take this screenshot I had first disabled the 5th OPP, then I changed its frequency so that CPU Spy showed 1500MHz even though I wasn't really using it. The time spent at that frequency was actually the time the CPU spent at 1200MHz before I had disabled the 5th OPP
I did that to show you that it's actually possible to (easly) change the max frequency to anything higher 1380MHz.
EDIT:
And BTW devs are continuosly improving this device, we were first limited to 1100MHz, now some phones are stable at 1300MHz. Remember that our cousing (I9000) is older and has a huge community.
EDIT 2:
"I'm wrong or sI9000 can be overclocked more with the same cpu?" => "I'm wrong or sI9000 can be overclocked more with a totally different cpu?"

You are wrong: the CPUs are different
i9003 has TI OMAP 3630 1GHz and i9000 has Samsung S5PC110 1GHz (code-named "Hummingbird")
Cortex A8 is just instructions and specifications for CPU. It's like DX10 for GPU. You can say Nvidia XXX card supports DX10 and AMD YYY supports it, why clocks for these cards and overclock potential are different?
I think the cpu of the i9000 is wors then the from i9003 so why is the i9000 overclocked to 50% and in our is it only 35%?
Cuold we not work on an overclock like 1.45 ghz for our phone ? Would it be unstable or is it because we need developers that can make it stable?

But can anybody tell me that whats the use of such higher OC (1.45ghz) when u can do same stuffs smoothly on 1.2 ghz easily??? Also OC looks very attractive feature but in my opinioin its a deadly battery killer feature. OC upto 1.35 ghz is more than sufficient (I am satisfied with 1ghz max with superb performance & good battery backup).
Instead of wasting time on overclocking developers should work on overclocking gpu, kernel 3.0 or video codec, video recording in cm7, cm9, miui, aosp roms. Because for now thats a big problem for our phone.

I am with you, we reached the limits of "smoothness" really (On stable roms, we shouldn't blame hardware when using buggy or incompletete roms or even stupid samsung roms.)
It would be better if devs focus on the GPU.

Remember when OCing just happened on our device? we were limited to 1080 Ghz, then to 1100 Ghz, then to 1200 Ghz/1300 Ghz, and now 1380 Ghz, devs will always figure out a way to squeeze more power and keep it stable, it needs time and effort.
The Galaxy S has a different CPU (That has lower OC potential then ours theoretically if i remember correctly) but has a bigger number of developers, it was released in 2010, our device was released in 2011 so it is kinda new.

Yes of cours but some developers can't fix this bugs.. But maybe they are able to overclock the phone (like uc team) and i think it's not a battery killer.. If i have battery problems i buy for 10 € a new battery.. Some games and if i have 2 apps open the phon is luggy.. Maybe with an haiey overclock it will be smoother

Remember guys, even if you OC the CPU, there will always be the weight of our outdated GPU dragging us down. Even if we OC to 1.45Ghz, you will always experience little bits of lag due to our PowerVR530. If I compare my friend's stock I9000 (No Mods, No Root, No OC:1Ghz) to my I9003 (with OC 1.38Ghz). My friend's I9000 will always be smoother due to both an advanced CPU and GPU.

No, it ain't like that. The chip is embedded, and can't change.
Our Chipset is MSM7225A (according to http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=3073&c=htc_explorer_htc_pico) and the GPU supported is Adreno 200 (enhanced) according to (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)).
The Adreno 200 was said to support the following in the wikipedia site.
Adreno 200 (AMD Z430) inside the QSD8x50 (1 GHz) and MSM7x27 (600 MHz A11+L2 cache). It offers a programmable function pipeline and streaming textures with support for OpenGL ES 2.0, OpenGL ES 1.1, OpenVG 1.1, EGL 1.4, Direct3D Mobile, SVGT 1.2 and DirectDraw. (22M triangles/second, 133M pixels/second, clock speed up to 128 MHz).

Even some googling didn't help in finding the clocking speed of our GPU. According to wikipedia, it supports 128 MHz.
Note that it was for the devices QSD8x50 (1 GHz) and MSM7x27.
But, an enhanced GPU is supported in our Chip. So, I got the following info from the Qualcomm website.
Adreno™ 200 is the first OGLES 2.0 GPU with unified shader architecture and makes maximum use of the graphics processing power of the GPU. This GPU is a leap forward in visual graphics quality from OpenGL-Es 1.x, which enables developers to implement effects that were previously a daunting task. APIs supported include OpenGL ES 2.0, OpenGL ES 1.1, OpenVG 1.1, EGL 1.3, Direct3D Mobile, SVGT 1.2 and DirectDraw. The Adreno 200 delivers streaming textures to combine Video, Camera, SVG and other image surfaces with 3D graphics. It also enables concurrent CPU, DSP, Graphics, and MDP and includes a programmable function graphics pipeline.

And, so, I summarized that an enhanced GPU, in our chip, has a normal clocking speed of around 200 MHz, and it can be overclocked. How this is done, and all the other stuff, the developers might help you. And, if its safe... I also read that overclocking a little wouldn't harm. So, I guess it's safe.
Anyways, the Pros are that you would get a little extra fps, so you could "expect" a little improvement in gaming and video playback.
The Cons... Well, anyone using an overclocked GPU for long might know.

When overclocked the textures are rendered little quicker than normal clocking. It won't double the frame rate as some guy doubted. Look at the details of our CPU and gpu.

Galaxy S4 9500 onlyStandard Disclaimer: Im not responsible if something wrong happens to your device Read the guide as much as you want before proceeding with overclocking
Overclocking and undervolting is highly debatable, some say its good and some say its bad... so its upto you to decide and proceed further
First rule of overclocking.. Your Mileage May Vary
Most of the people here in xda do know about overclocking and stuffs but still there are many who are so eager to overclock their device . Hence this guide.
I have given some good info below about these stuffs as far as i can , you can always use google to get further details.
What is overclocking?
Overclocking is the process of making a computer or component operate faster than the specified clock frequency by the manufacturer by modifying system parameters. One of the most important techniques is running at a higher clock rate (more clock cycles per second; hence the name "overclocking")
Operating voltages may also be changed (increased), which can increase the speed at which operation remains stable.
Advantage:
You can get more performance from your chipset, though s4 is already fast you can see the visible changes in application execution time and much more like instant response time.
Disadvantage:
* Overclocking is always risky if something is configured improperly and may also result in permanent damage to your hardware. As long as it is done safely you are good to go.
* You may see some increased power consumption.
* Extreme overclocking might kill your hardware.
Undervolting :
The process where you provide less voltage to your cpu rather than the stock voltage.
Advantage:
* Reduced heat from your device.
* Good battery life.
Disadvantage:
* Extreme undervolting will make your device unstable and some times even end up with a boot loop.
Apart from the voltage table defined below for exynos the below mentioned data are common for 9500/9505
Overclocking in Exynos Octa:
Exynos 5410 is already one among the best performing chipset available, so overclocking this device is not going to give us any visible performance improvements except the benchmark scores. Underclocking is a different story on 9500, since the cpu temperature easily reaches upto 90C (90C is the throttle temperature defined for this device in the kernel, so its normal) undervolting the device will help in reducing the overall temperature of the device considerably. I highly recommend undervolting the device instead of overclocking it.
Exynos 5410 has 2 cpu clusters, stock voltages and available steppings are given below
Little Cores (A7) stock voltages
Code:
[B]STWEAKS[/B]
1200mhz : 1225mv
1100mhz : 1125mv
1000mhz : 1100mv
900mhz : 1037mv
800mhz : 987mv
700mhz : 950mv
600mhz : 950mv
500mhz : 950mv
400mhz : 950mv
300mhz : 950mv
200mhz : 950mv
Samsung divides the actual clock of a7 by 2 while displaying the steppings in order to accommodate the big little way of displaying values. Stweaks will show you every available steppings like above whereas most other cpu tuning apps show it like below, both are same though. stweaks @ 800mhz is equal to other tuning apps @ 400mhz
Code:
[B]OTHER CPU TUNING APPS[/B]
700mhz : 1225mv
550mhz : 1162mv
500mhz : 1100mv
450mhz : 1037mv
400mhz : 987mv
350mhz : 950mv
300mhz : 950mv
250mhz : 950mv
200mhz : 950mv
150mhz : 950mv
100mhz : 950mv
Big Cores (A15) stock voltages
Code:
2000mhz : 1250mv
1900mhz : 1250mv
1800mhz : 1250mv
1700mhz : 1200mv
1600mhz : 1162mv
1500mhz : 1137mv
1400mhz : 1100mv
1300mhz : 1062mv
1200mhz : 1025mv
1100mhz : 1000mv
1000mhz : 962mv
900mhz : 925mv
800mhz : 900mv
Though the cpu frequency table has steppings upto 2ghz the max stable clock i have seen so for on s4 is 1800mhz.
Requirements:
1. Kernel with overclocking/undervolting support.
2. stweaks or android tuner to change frequency/voltage.(you can use the app of your choice here).
3. set cpu and stability test to test the stability of CPU.
4. Some patience.
The below mentioned steps are common for 9500/9505
Step 1:
Set the current clock and voltage you want to test via android tuner/stweaks. (Select max frequency in cpu tab).
Example:
*If you want to test under volting for 1.4 ghz with 1050 mv (1100 is the default) then set 1.4 ghz as max clock and 1050mv as its voltage.
*If you want to test overclocking @ 1.7 ghz with 1150 mv (1200 is the default) then set 1.7 ghz as max clock and 1150 mv as its voltage.
Step 2:
Open set cpu's cpu stress test and run it for atleast 10 minutes. If you didnt get any errors or hang during the testing period and if the test completed successfully then the clock is ready for daily use
Step 3:
Now for undervolting use the same tools and reduce the voltage by -25mv.
Repeat step 2.
you can reduce the voltage further by -25 mv after every successful completion of stress test (Advanced users can try reducing -50mv )
Step 4:
Repeat step 1,2 and 3 for every possible cpu clock you see in android tuner/stweaks.
Note the stable cpu voltage for every clock, once you finish testing all your clock values save it as a profile and/or set it on boot.
Voila !!! now you have finished overclocking/ under voting your device.
Notes:
1. Never ever use set on boot option until you find the stable clock and voltage settings.
2. Not all chips are capable of running at higher speeds like 1800 mhz. Those speeds are highly experimental.
3. Recommended max overclocking is 1700 mhz.
4. If your device gets hotter allow the device to cool for few minutes before starting the test.
5. Either use stweaks or android tuner(or some other app), dont mix up.
6. Combining the overclocking and undervolting will give you the best of both the worlds
In case of emergency:
1. If your device becomes unstable and not responsive either press the power button until your device restarts or pull out your battery.
2. Android tuner has an option to create flashable zip for resetting the voltage table, use it if needed.

I increased the voltages as advised by u but the quadrant results are around 13000 benchmark...
I'm currently using Omega 8/Perseus 3.4 along with the cross breeder....
My phones very snappy but just wondering about the quadrant result... Is there anything I'm missing???
Plz advise...
Thanks

looks like your chip is cooked well
Nobody still have discussed it but... our Moto Z XT1650-03 are *really* underclocked!!!
Let's start from the beginning...
First models on marked were the Verizon's Droid version and their SD820 were clocked @2.15 GHz (at least so declared officially Motorola)...
Then came out the unbranded international version and, even if not so "advertized" by Motorola, it's clock was lowered (officially...), to 1.82 GHz. True?
False.
Even if apps like CPU-Z find the CPU able to work between 300 MHz and 1.82 GHz, the real clock frequencies used by Moto Z are in the range 652 MHz - 1.59 GHz!!!
Using root, both my "reference" apps, Antutu CPU Master Pro & FauxClock show this range (652 - 1,59) as used BUT while the lower clock can be lowered to 300 MHz (best setting for longer battery life in my opinion... ), there is NO option to go over 1.59 GHZ at all!!!
From my experience there should be two more setting 1.82 GHZ and, probably, something around @1.7x GHz, but both are unavailable on stock kernel.
So, if @erfanoabdi has really raised clock to real 2.15 GHz in its modified kernel, the difference in performance should be really noticeable! (I don't know about battery life anyway... ).

Hi, let me explain it
If you take look at snapdragon 820 details and tech specs you will see this processor have 4 core and
2 core of them is clockable up to 2.15
And other 2 core is clockable up to 1.5
And you can also check it by kernel adiutor app on your device.
International version of moto z using same hardware as Verizon edition but kernel of them are different and CPU of it underclocked to 1.3 and 1.8 Hz
There is some restrictions for GPU too and I fixed them on my kernel
So don't worry
Use my turboZ or Verizon (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69459891&postcount=205) kernel for better speed and performance

With turboz kernel 0.7 it never pass 1.59.
Performance are great all most everywhere with elementalX governor. Just some scrolling stuttering. All is fast and no lags.
It's probably because it's reading the speeds of the other 2 cores in the "efficiency" cluster.

So any battery saving experience when you lower the minimum CPU speed to 300MHz?
Is it really running at 300MHz instead of 652MHz?

Hello. I am interested in purchasing this phone but am confused by the different versions and conflicting specs that I see online for each. So certain versions have the faster 2.15GHz processor vs 1.8GHz but lack Band 12 support (I'm on T-Mobile). While the others have Band 12 but have the slower processor? Is that correct; there is no way to have both?

You can have both by unlocking the bootloader and installing custom roms.

So I could purchase either version and use a custom rom to unlock the missing features, i.e. the hardware is identical? Is one route recommended over the other?

I think only a specific variant like the Verizon one is in a bs state when it comes to software. Other than that one, you should be "on equal grounds".
Hello everyone! With the launch of redmi note 5 pro and snapdragon 636 we have now a budget king. We know that 636 is based on 660 with reduced clocks for better efficiency , cpu cores being the same. What we don't know for sure is what gpu the 636 is using. We've been lead to believe that snapdragon 636 is using adreno 509 wich is a slight improvement over adreno 508 on snapdragon 630. Based on this article http://kyokojap.myweb.hinet.net/gpu_gflops/ we know that adreno 506 and 508 is the same core , and adreno 510 and 512 is the same core with the latter being on a node shrink to 14nm from 28nm.
So adreno 506 at 600mhz has 120 gflops , adreno 508 at 800mhz has 160gflops, adreno 510 (28nm) at 600mhz has 180gflops and adreno 512 (14nm) at 800mhz has 240gflops..
Adreno 509 is supposed to have a bump of 10% improvement over adreno 508 wich is around 160gflops. This means adreno 509 should be around the mark of 175gflops, right between the adreno 508 and adreno 510. If adreno 509 is the same core as adreno 506 & and 508 that means adreno 509 needs al least + 10% on the clocks. 800mhz + 10% => goes to ~900mhz for adreno 509. Not impossible but not likely because don't forget snapdragon636 is meant to be very efficient and the increased consumption cuased by the delta of perf/clocks at 900mhz is very high. So taking the assumption that adreno 509 is the same core as 510 and 512 , for it to be around 175gflops it needs to be underclocked at around 550mhz. A 550mhz clock would need a lot less power then a smaller gpu core (506) but at a higher clock ~~900mhz.
Adreno 509 being the same core as 510 and 512 would be very beneficial to us ,making the snapdragon 636 a very friendly overclocker both on cpu cores and gpu cores.
The problem with this theory is : I don't have proof. I don't have a redmi note 5 pro ( it's not yet released globally) and there is a lack of information based on this gpu's on internet.
We need someone with the phone , time and willing to figure it out at what clock adreno 509 operates. From there we can see on wich gpu core adreno 509 is really based.
Any news about this? On wikipedia there is some more information, but don't know if these are true. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adreno
Adreno 509, 510 and 512 all have 128 ALUs.
Adreno 509: 720mhz and 14nm
Adreno 510: 600mhz and 28nm
Adreno 512: 850mhz and 14nm
So if these information are true, the Adreno 509 should be faster than the Adreno 510 + less power hungry because of 14nm.
Can anyone confirm this?^^

However, my Redmi Note 5' Adreno 509 only gets 430Mhz under full load, so I think it's just a downclock version of Adreno 512. The performance of 509 is even better than 510, and barely produce any heat.

That's interesting. I just searched on YouTube for some performance videos, on Antutu the phone has a SD636 and an Adreno 512, so it could be really a downclocked version. I guess we need more information^^

Unfortunately, not yet. Some say that it's impossible to overclock but I dunno why..probably some higher level sources are locked or maybe some alu's are hardlocked is my guess. Does anyone here have an idea about it?

We nid proper frequency_table to do this, some kernel using source from 660 and bump CPU clock to 2.2Ghz for real, but not for the GPU, I hope someone could bring a new frequency_table for adreno 509 from scratch.. cuz its happen on sd435 just like simpleKernel by Luiz on Redmi 4x..

Wow, I see some interesting changelogs' on that thread for redmi4x
"Overclocked BIG to 1.49GHz and LITTLE to 1.209GHz using hardware unlocks thanks to @TecnoTailsPlays for working together to do this;
-> Overclocked GPU to 610MHz again, working together with @TecnoTailsPlays (https://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=6821509);"
Would be nice if some devs like him can look at the 509's frequency table too.. The performance increase could be next level!

Thanks dude!
The goal is to overclock the SD363 to match the SD660. Most importantly the GPU! The two chips perform basically the same CPU-wise, but in graphics the 660 is 30-40% more powerful, simply because it is clocked higher.

Yeah if someone could make the GPU clocks like Adreno 512, it would be less painful to watch the Redmi note 7 and its SD660 XD
But anyway, SD636 to SD660 kernels exist for our whyred, its just a matter of getting that adreno 512. Another info is that our GPU gets 21k antutu score and 512 gets 30k. Not important but definitely a nice bump

Exactely!
The 636 is already a MASSIVE upgrade from the 625, specially gpu-wise (about 60%) and gettin that extra 30-40% would be magical.
But, would that stress the GPU and cpu? I have senn people talking with worry about that. And I noticed that there were many kernels with oc(I think most of custom kernels for whyred started with oc) but now I think that the only one left is kangaroo. All the others removed oc and ov. Does this mean something?
