Screen Off Gestures - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Has anyone else on had issues with the screen off gestures like the V shape for flashlight not work all the time? Or the double tap to wake just refusing to working sometimes? Have this on the 7 Pro and had this on the 6T before this phone. Weird.
OOS of course

The problem I have with the gestures I've noticed is that they don't work if Ambient Display is triggered. The screen has to be completely off for them to work for me. I don't know if it's a bug or a feature but it's pretty annoying. I didn't have this problem when I had my 6T at all, or if I did, I didn't notice it much before I got rid of it.

Yeah I've always had issues with the gestures working when they feel like it. Both on my 6T and now on my 7 Pro! I always liked the V gesture to turn on flashlight, but it's so finicky that I'm using Renovate Ice mainly for the power button torch. (And secure app screenshots, but that's unrelated for this thread lol)

They only work when you don't want them to it feels like. Half the time I pull my phone out of my pocket and my flashlight is on or my Galaxy Watch is disconnected cause I turn off Bluetooth due to taps while my phone is in my pocket. Agreed on the Power Button Torch and Secure Screenshots in Renovate Ice though. ??

Paranoid Android notification peek

This is paranoid android's notification peek in APK format. Almost same as active display if anyone wants to try it. https://github.com/lzanita09/Notifi...1.0-20140504/NotificationPeekPort-release.apk

It looks cool but I couldn't get it to work.
Looks really cool but doesn't work on GS4 mini 9190 running carbon rom
reverted back to active display
Link is dead. I had to actually look it up on Google just to see what it was. Overall, it looks nice seems to have quite a bit more functions over Motorola's Active Display. If I can find the .apk I may give it a go.
Latest Build
Found the latest build.
Just had a chance to mess with it. It works, but not real well. The screen wakes up when you get a notification but if you don't open the notification right then and there and let the phone go back to sleep it can not be reawakened just by moving the phone like Active Display. You actually have to turn the screen on via the power button and then unlock the phone to check the notifications bar. I did send myself a bunch of notifications and thought it was cool how I could swap between them. I wish Active Display allowed for that feature. Also, the icons are a lot nicer than Moto's Active Display. Overall, I think this app will be pretty cool once all the bugs are worked out of it.

That is the intended use of Peek - it is only active for 10 seconds after receiving a notification. In theory, the screen shouldn't wake at all unless you move the device within those ten seconds since it is designed for both IPS and AMOLED screens and prevents unnecessary screen-on time.

No what I mean is that with Motorola's Active Display if you wave your hand or move the phone after the notification screen time out it'll show you the notifications again. As long as you don't push the power button to wake and unlock it you can still view the notifications via the Active Display. With the Peek display you get the notification once and then that's it until the next notification. Moving the phone or waving in front of the proximity sensor won't rewake to check notifications from the peek screen.
Don't get me wrong, I like the PA Peek app, I just wish I could check the notifications indefinitely like I do the Active Display. I wish the Active Display would let you cycle through your notifications like Peek. I'll definitely keep an eye on the Peek app, hopefully they get it sorted to where you can wake it by moving the phone or waving across the proximity sensor.

Double tap to wake screen

Can anyone help.
I can't find the option to enable the double tap to wake the screen on my Xz Premium.
It's on my wife's Xz.
Thanks

Yeah, seems like Sony has removed that feature on XZs and XZ Premium
I hope they add it back. I wonder if it's something to do with the 4k screen? Does anyone know if it's on the z5 premium?

Hello dvdman2k,
Yes the double tap to wake is on the Z5P; however I found it something of a mixed blessing as was inclined to wake from unintentional screen touches while in a pocket (in the Style Cover SCR46 with the active window). Having just migrated to the XZP I'd noticed the feature's absence, but almost with some relief !
Regards,
Kevin
PS. Having now used the device for a week or so, I've changed my opinion. There are some occasions when the Double Tap function would be very good to have. Others when I'd prefer it turned off (eg. to prevent inadvertent activation while in a jacket pocket). So my conclusion is that I'd like to see the functionality re-instated in the ROM , but with a user-controlled toggle in Settings so that it is flexible to suit requirements.

Hi kevinpwhite
Coming from Moto Z I liked the feature where you could wave hand over the display and it would wake up & the finger. Print reader is on the front of the phone.
Sometimes I want to wake the screen without pressing the power Button.
Thanks

I have double tap to lock using Nova Prime as my launcher. I don't use double tap to wake even when available because too often the screen starts up when the phone is in your pocket. However, I do wish that the fingerprint reader would unlock the phone WITHOUT having to actually press the button in just like most fingerprint readers work. Maybe they could make it work this way? In fact I am sure they could because when you are setting up your various fingers for access you do not have to push the button in. In fact if you accidentally do push it in while registering your prints it will close the screen and you have to start all over. SO I believe they could make it live/active just like any other fingerprint reader. How do we actually get these requests to Sony directly? I also wish they would unlink the ringtone volume from the notification volume.
Things might change in the next update.

This is a mandatory feature for me. I won't buy a phone without it. In fact, I pretty much need to have lift-to-wake and/or some kind of always-on-display. Pushing a power button to turn on your phone is so 2015.

Per my earlier comments, I was initially slightly relieved after the Z5P's tendency to turn on when not wanted; however, have now revised my opinion and think it would be very useful - but needs a user-selectable toggle to suit circumstances. This approach has been mooted to the Developers on the Sony Forum (they've acknowledged) and there is quite a strong voice of similar views from other users. The more strength of feeling, the more likely the feature will be re-instated in a F/W update.... :fingers-crossed:
Best regards,
Kevin
if it really bothers you, you can just buy a roxfit urban slim case for it like i have. After using a xiaomi mi5 with tap to wake , its hard going back to the old ways lol, plus less pressing on physical buttons, the longer the hardware lasts!
please bring back
Try this to wake: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jarsilio.android.waveup&hl=en
Install Nova Prime for double tap to lock.
Works great. There are other apps that do similar things in the play store. YMMV
You can always buy the official case that has a screen unlock feature. Because of it I no longer see the need of double tap to wake but it would be handy to have. I am annoyed this feature is excluded though.
Any suggestion for a simple app to do the double tap wake/lock?
Ive been using https://kernel.andro.plus/yoshino.html for DTW
Of course you need a Unlocked Bootloader
Now I'm using WaveUp, it's not like the double tap but works well for both locking and unlocking. And it has a "pocket mode" for unlock the display when you take it out from your pocket, very useful.

No Screenoff Animation since OB6

Hey Guys,
since i installed OB6, my Screen-on, Screen-off and Lift-up-Display Animations are gone. It just instantly pops up. Do you have any idea why?
Yeah I noticed this as well, I'm on 9.0.2 stable OOS, setting in display settings for screen animation doesn't seem to exist either.
Yeah I also have this issue, is it supposed to be like this? Does everyone have this? I'm on stable oos 9.0.2
Yup having the same issue too maybe this is a feature?

I think its getting fixed in the next releases, lets just wait. Seems like everyone has it so they should have noticed
Can you guys also notice this? Its very slight, but on the lockscreen, when you are on the screen to enter your pattern, when you successfully enter your pattern (or a successful fingerprint recognition), does the fingerprint icon float up properly? mine appears to disappear behind a invisible box after moving up a bit, it just seems to get cut off, rather than floating further up and fading away as it should

yeah here too, they probably messed something up while updating
It could possibly OnePlus purposely removed it for faster user experience, since Oxygen os is known for how fast their animations are.

I dont think so, it really doesnt look good, more like a glitchy incomplete mess. Also they didnt adress anything in the Changelog or something
My friend just got his OnePlus 6T, and that also has the screen turning off instantly, maybe its a glitch accross both? i agree that, if its a feature, it looks really awful, and hopefully it gets addressed
Hey guys something else I'm noticing, does closing the camera app by pressing the home button look a little more glitchy than closing any other app? (Eg whatsapp?) It doesn't seem to fade, it sorta moves down then dissapears, just looks wierd

Double-tap, or Knock/Knock, to wake up the phone?

I got rather used to double-tapping the screen on my prior phones to either wake up or turn off the screen. I cannot find that feature within the Moto G7 Power Android 9 Pie configuration / setup. Looking around, this feature seems to be available in Android Pie generally.
What am I missing?
It's not a native feature. We're you using an LG phone? You can get it back if you use Nova launcher. At least for screen off, won't work for screen on.
As stated above, knock on is a feature of LG phones.
As an alternative, look for WaveUp on the play store. Open source app that turns in the wave feature not included in the G7.
Not as nice as the knock on, but one you get used to basically touching the proximity sensor, it works the same.

It should become a moto gesture, that'd be EPIC.
LG even make a fridge with a knock-on light so you can see what drinks you've got in the door.
Sorry, nothing useful to add! It's not a native feature of pie, however.
Tap your screen to semi-wake so lockscreen clock (if set) will appear then scroll up from bottom of screen and pin input appears. Proximity sensor seems poor so many taps may be needed.
Wouldn't the Face Unlock be much easier and prevent the need for a double tap? Of course it wouldn't work in dark areas. Things like these I think they implement because it might be better or easier
If someone makes a custom kernel and adds DTTW then your in like flin.

black circle blinking around the front camera

Hi guys,
I have the Note 10 plus and my wife bought last week the note 10 lite.
The lite have a circle around blinking around the front camera and the plus don't have this.
I searched everywhere and din't find an answer about what is that....
Any help?!
Did you buy the 10 lite used? I have a 10lite with aod notify installed it shows a ring around camera for notifications. So if you bought it used maybe its installed. Other than that not sure. Camera also has a lighted ring when you switch between front camera and rear camera, but its white.

No. It's brand new.
And I have the AOD notify in my Note 10 plus.
It's like a sensor. And just happens with the screen on.
The animation around the front camera appears when you are set to face unlock.

same thing
Same situation here, it has nothing to do with face unlock or notification system, tried everything, always the same thing. Its like popping up around front camera every 5-6 seconds when on lock screen, and sometimes when scrolling through certain apps. Maybe some kind of camera-cut-out-pixels protection? Its an odd software behavior without any explanation from Samsung.
Maybe your smart stay is turned on, try to disable it under Motion and Gestures in the settings.
It appears during a video call too, and looks like a larger circle, like that one the other samsung products.
Also sry, for being off topic, i wanted to know how is your s pen working, because the nib of mine feels a little loose.
It is as @j.canlas mentioned. Smart Stay is tuned on, it checks if you are facing directly on the screen or not (to lock the display). I also kept on searching for what it was when the device was new to me, it bothered me a lot.
You can disable/enable it under Settings > Advanced Features > Motions and Gestures.

This is the correct explanation for the infrequent circle around the camera.
