Help with root access for Nokia 3 running Android Pie - Nokia 3 Questions & Answers

Could anyone please help with a guide for rooting Nokia 3 and flashing TWRP that works for Android 9.0?
Thanks.

It's very easy if you have the bootloader already unlocked.
1.- Download magisk apk from github
2.- Install and download the zip
3.- Move the zip to a sd card
4.- Flash twrp using Sp Flash Tools
5.- Boot into recovery and flash magisk zip
That's all
I tried yesterday

Thank you for your answer.
What if you don't have your bootloader unlocked ? Do you just need to check the "Unlock Bootloader" switch in the developers options ? Thank you

Hey. How to downgrade nokia 3 from pie to nogaut ? I want to root my device

before you do this just remember this wipes your phone
you can unlock your nokia 3 on 9.0 just make sure bootloader is unlocked in dev settings and boot into fastboot.
then run the following commands
fastboot -i 0x2e04 oem key [MD5-key]
fastboot flashing unlock_critical
fastboot flash boot [path to whatever you're flashing e.g. magisk]
then run
fastboot reboot
and your phone will be rooted and the bootloader unlocked

How can I remove the orange state?
I mean, currently, if I lock the bootloader again, I get a red state.
and I can only skip it, if I connect it to the usb.
and start normally, without any status warning, if it is connected to the usb

get the twrp recovery image file from unofficialtwrp.com/nokia-3-root-twrp-3-2-3 ....
rename the file to recovery.img and put the file in adb directory.....also put the magisk.zip file in the sd card (don't put it in the internal memory)
then get into fastboot mode....then enter the following commands....
fastboot oem key [md5 hash]
fastboot flashing unlock
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
while rebooting, instantly press vol up+power to go into recovery mode( dont let the phone to boot normally or you will have to flash twrp again and your phone might be in orange state but ignore that)....if it shows "no command" press the same buttons at the same time to get into recovery mode.....then install the magisk.zip and reboot....then install magisk.apk and you are done.... tried and tested on nokia 3 ta- 1032 android pie just today and it worked...

Don't do it !!! After rooting TA-1032 Pie 9, camera does not work !!!
Hier is what I did:
$ adb devices
$ adb reboot bootloader
$ fastboot devices
$ echo -n "NE1GXXXXXXXXXXXX" | md5sum | tr a-z A-Z | awk '{print $1}'
$ fastboot oem key YOUR-KEY
# the first time did not accepted
$ fastboot -i 0x2e04 oem key YOUR-KEY
$ fastboot oem key YOUR-KEY
$ fastboot flashing unlock
$ fastboot reboot
# Installed magisk v23.apk
$ fastboot flash boot magisk_patched-23000_7R099.img
$ fastboot reboot
I can confirm that this works on Nokia3 TA-1032, but the problem is the camera.
All you get is green background, if anyone knows hot to fix the green
background, please let me/us know.
Thank you,

can I fastboot boot twrp to backup the original recovery ?

Or the distributed boot / system / data (rom) for restoration?
I figured to HTCDEV unlock to allow fastboot to write to recovery
and then fastboot boot twrp to backup whats there before overlaying it.
why not try it?

Just make sure to do that from the bootloader menu, not the download mode. Download didn't work for me, command line in Windows was stuck on booting and the download mode said finished flashing, that's it. Once rebooted to the bootloader menu everything was fine. That's how I backed my original recovery as well. You'll probably need to unlock the bootloader on htcdev first though, at least that's what I did.

Yes, I figured that, (htcdev.com bootloader unlock).
Thanks for the pointer, I really don't know which mode is for what ...
I think bootloader mode is for direct fastboot flashing
fastboot flash <partition> <file>
or fastboot boot <file>
and download mode & RUU mode is for things packaged
like an RUU. fastboot flash zip <file>
fastboot oem <--->

Recovery is to be flashed in download mode as has been on the HTC 10 the case. In fact download mode can be viewed at as fastboot mode of the phone.
Sent from my htc_pmeuhl using XDA Labs
Left a note here.
My first-batch U11 can be booted to twrp with "fastboot boot twrp-blahblah.img" under bootloader menu (I wish I didn't remember it wrong)
But it can't be done after it came back from repair (no power issue with unknown reason), which motherboard had been replaced and updated to Oreo already.
Anyway, it seems that stock-recovery backup is not required since there's reliable source of stock-recovery which inside the OTA file.

Honor 6x stuck in Recovery

Hey Guys,
I've tried to root my phone and while falshing the TWRP Recovery an Error occured.
Code:
C:\adb>fastboot boot twrp.img
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 0.754s]
booting...
FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)
finished. total time: 0.763s
So I thought I could exit the menu by typing "fastboot reboot". Now I'm stuck in in that startup window "Your device has been unlocked and can´t be trusted" and have 3 options:
(1) Press Power Key to continue.
(2) Press Vol...
(3) ...
If I press the power button its just rebooting and everything starts from beginning and if I'm trying to recover it my phone cant connect to the wifi "Getting package info failed".
HiSuite and usb debugging aren´t working.
Did I broke my Phone or is there a way to fix it?
Sorry for my bad englich ^^.
Thank you! Musark.

this is the wrong command for flashing a recovery. You should type: "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img".

It's usually because your bootloader is still or again locked.

At least i want to use my Phone.
I rode a lot about dload but I've only found tutorials where i need access to my phone.
Could someone give me a link for a tutorial?

It's because the tutorial you followed is wrong when it comes to flashing the twrp recovery. It seems like you flashed the recovery image to the wrong partition (boot).
If you want to install a custom rom:
1. Put your phone into fastboot mode
2. Use the command: fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
3. Flash any custom rom
If you want to get the stock rom running again:
Way1:
1. Download the right stock recovery for your phone (marshmallow recovery if you want to flash marshmallow and nougat recovery if you want to install the nougat stock rom)
2. Put your phone into fastboot mode
3. Use the command: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
4. Download the right firmware for your phone and extract the files
5. Create the "dload" folder on your external sd card
6. Put the update.app from the extracted files into your "dload" folder
7. Power off your phone
8. Hold volume up + volume down + power button until the honor logo appears. Wait until the phone boots into stock recovery and installs the stock rom.
Way2.
1. If you know which version of stock rom you had installed, e.g. B360 you can download the same firmware version again.
2. Use huawei firmware extractor to extract recovery.img and boot.img
3. Put your phone into fastboot mode
4. Use the command: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
5. Use the command: fastboot flash boot boot.img
6. Reboot your phone (fastboot reboot)
In general you can also install any rom via fastboot:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash cust cust.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

How can i access my sd card without HiSuite or usb debugging? I could also put my sd card in a diffrent phone, but i think thats not the usual way.

If you have no running rom on your phone, then as far as I know only via TWRP or as you already mentioned by another phone.
My phone is working fine now thanks.

This could be a solution or a workaround:
"Hello i just had a personal experience with my Asus zenfone selfie Z00T Stock recovery kept replacing TWRP. (Boot loader already unlocked)
This is how i got around it i downloaded the latest TWRP for my device and placed directly in minimal adb and fastboot app folder then i renamed it to recovery .
then i put my device in fastboot mode using the buttons on the phone and After i ran minimal adb and fastboot app as admin then i typed fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
once done i then i typed fastboot boot recovery.img. and my phone booted to twrp recovery then i selected reboot recovery directly on my phone and to finish reboot system (still in twrp) that's it.
(OEM commands to boot from fastboot to recovery do not work on some devices )
it only worked for me eventually because i downloaded the latest TWRP from the official TWRP website.
The idea is to flash the custom recovery and then booting from the custom recovery.img that you just used to flash (the one still on the pc) using minimal adb and fastboot app.
IT may not work on all devices as the commands may change from one device to another but the idea stays the same. (example for nexus fastboot -c "lge.kcal=0|0|0|x" boot recovery.img)
I hope this will help some people out."

Try this:
when you are in fastboot mode type:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
This command will boot your phone to twrp. Install twrp .zip file (there are 2 options when installing .img or .zip)
after this go to ADB/Sideload - This is in Advanced section
Then swipe to start a sideload. Now on your pc type:
Code:
adb sideload recovery.zip
This worked for me. I hope this works for you too

All the commands worked smoothly but when again tried to go twrp recovery for rooting, I can't seem to find twrp. I got no command with Android pic and after few seconds default device recovery option. From where I can navigate to fastboot, recovery, wipe and etc.

Not sure what you mean by this. But tried
[Command]
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot reboot recovery
[Command]
Which took me to deafult recovery, no Twrp this time.
However I spent some time on xda and found this Command "fastboot boot twrp.img". Will try tomorrow again, will let you know if it worked! Man I'm probably bothering you!

got error
```
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Sending 'recovery' (39936 KB)
fastboot: error: Command failed
tried changing cable but no change.
Oky so i had a hunch, and it was correct. i mounted system and didnt get that error.
Thanks buddy. Took me few tries and combination. but now im back with my device. And as guessed, twrp was/is the culprit. It was locking the system or something like this, perhaps a glich? anyway had to mount system and already wrote the command on terminal, so as soon as phone screen turns on, i get to send the data from pc to phone before phone starts doing many of its stuff.
Wipe option->format data -yes
Reboot option-> recovery and Twrp open
1.boot.img flash
2.super.img flash
3.recovery.img flash
Than reboot
[FIXED] No option for OEM Unlock on Lenovo A5000
In devlopemed options there no OEM Unlock how to fix it Lenovo A5000
Does it have fastboot mode? Some Mediatek devices do not allow unlock bootloader, but you still be able to flash the boot, system, userdata and cache partitions in fastboot mode.
Yes, it's unfortunate that so many devices hide OEM unlocking. I fell victim to this annoying issue when trying to root my ANDR11/OneUI3.1 SAMSUNG a102u device. Unable to fix the problem and root the device.
Some devices not allow flash recovery partition with bootloader locked, but since you can flash boot partition with locked bootloader then you can make a script to run on boot time to flash the recovery (I did it to fix a bootloop on my Lenovo tab and worked) or if your device is rooted you can flash recovery using terminal emulator, there is a program called SP Flash Tools, this is the program to flash Mediatek devices you can try it too.
Also, did you try run this command on fastboot mode:
fastboot oem unlock
or
fastboot flashing unlock
