[Q] Is Wi-Fi Calling on AT&T Possible - Google Pixel 3 Questions & Answers

I have an unlocked Pixel 3 on AT&T but the plan is through work. I recently got approved for Wi-Fi Hotspot and that works fine but I can't get Wi-Fi calling to work. I searched around and it seems that it's supported but I can't really find anything concrete. I'd call AT&T myself but like I said, the plan is through work and not in my name.
Our phone guy at work was told that they can't do it on Pixel 3 yet but maybe in the future. Is there something I can do or tell them to try or should I just sit and wait 18 months for my next phone?
Thanks all.

Answer: YES
I just swapped my SIM card for a new one and now Wi-Fi calling works on AT&T.

[Q] Getting LTE on AT&T w/ Nexus 5

Hello,
I'm coming from a Nexus 4, and have never had an LTE phone on my AT&T account before. I've read that since AT&T doesn't have Nexus 5 in their system, that it will be a hassle for them to activate LTE through the phone. I can't really find any concrete answers or info, so I figured I'd stop by here and see if anyone has any ideas?
Does AT&T have to activate LTE on their end for it to work? Or can I just adjust my APN once I get the phone?
Has anyone had any issues with this at all? How did you get around it?
Thanks in advance!
I would like to know too... Im thinking about switching over my corporate account from VZW to ATT and I ordered a Nexus 5 to try out ATT coverage in my area first. I was going to head into the ATT store tomorrow, now Im worried I won't be able to get it setup (Im not familiar with how ATT works). Do I need to get a IMEI from a phone in the store and give to them? I don't get my N5 until tomorrow night and I was planning on going the store tomorrow morning and getting either Gophone or shared plan SIM setup so I can pop it in when the phone arrives. Will they need an IMEI to even get me an account activated?
If they need an IMEI at activation, would it matter if I didn't have the device in front of me, like if I tell them I ordered a S4 and gave them a IMEI from one? Do I need to find someone on ATT to give me their IMEI and tell them at the store I have it ordered? Sorry if these request are way off based on how it actually works, but I want to be able to test out my N5 tomorrow night! Thanks for any help you can give me..
EDIT: In the ATT world, would It be considered shady for me to tell them all this info? For instance if I told the salesmen this problem and asked if they could use an IMEI off one of their phones?

I'm assuming that this will work similar to how it worked for the N4 and enabling HSPA+ on AT&T.
You will need an LTE plan added to your account. It won't cost more, but the account needs to enable the LTE service. In order to do this, I believe AT&T will need an IMEI. Since the IMEI will not be recognized, then you need to get another AT&T LTE device's IMEI code. Maybe a friend? I know some people would copy it off a demo device in the store.
Good luck.
FWIW: I put my LTE sim in the phone and everything was autoenabled correctly. This was better than with the N4 where it autoenabled wrong, and I had to change the settings.
I'll clarify this, AT&T has different data plans. They have all their data plans for 3g phone (3g data unlimited), and all their 4g data plans. You can not get 4g unless your data plan has been switched to the 4g version. You can keep your unlimited plans with this. Just call and ask them to switch your data plan to the lte version.
Sorry double post

So, to clarify, did you just activate LTE with an N5 coming from an N4 and it went smoothly?

i'm in the same boat, i'll know for sure when i get the n5 tomorrow but from what i've seen AT&T does have to provision your SIM for LTE. My plan is to goto an AT&T store and ask them if they can get my sim sorted; if they screw around or say they "can't" help me then i'll either grab an imei from one of the demo phones or from a buddy and call them and give them that.

This looks to be the thing to do. I just had someone inform me that they brought the phone into AT&T, and the guy punched in the numbers off the sticker on the back, gave him a sim and he was good to go. I'll make sure to come back here and report my own findings first hand since this question seems to be floating around a bit.

Do identical IMEI numbers conflict if its already on the network? Can I use the same identical IMEI from a friends ATT phone or do I need to change some numbers?

I've read imei's are never checked
I already had an LTE Sim. I just used the LTE Sim in my n4.

College Station, November 4, 2013 Verified - LTE addon
I can verify coming from a "Nexus S" BYOD.
I went to an AT&T Store in College Station, TX to get a new microSIM because the Nexus 5 only takes microSIM form factor.
I then got an LTE signal, but no IP address.
Chatted online and they told me to wait 1 hour then reboot the phone. Did so.. same response, gets on the LTE network fast, but nevers gets an IP address.
So I then called 611 on the Nexus 5 and talked to Tech Support, told them:
1. I have never had an LTE phone before and thought I needed LTE service added to my Account Profile.
2. I wanted "No changed to my legacy Unlimited plan"
They told me
1. My "legacy Unlimited plan had just been removed by 'mistake' and would have to be restored by the (backoffice)"
2. They were updating my account to enable LTE service
I then had to reboot the phone, did so and the Internet service came right up.
Now I have to wait up to 72 hours for AT&T backoffice to confirm they have restored my Unlimited plan.
I put a pass-code on my Account, and strenuously stress every time.. DO NOT TOUCH MY UNLIMITED PLAN !!!! -- And they do it any way.
.. exasperated ...
They also do not know what a "Nexus 5" phone is yet.. so I think only the call in Tech Support can interpolate what to do. I think the kee was to keep calling it an "LTE enabled Nexus 4" and then things just "worked".

AT&T on Unlocked Note 8 WIFI Calling why one phone will work and one wont!?

I have 2 Note 8s right from Samsung Unlocked. My dad and I are both on AT&T. We both flashed the AT&T firmware. His works with WiFi calling mine doesn't. The only 2 differences are I took an update the day before we flashed and he did not. Also he has had WiFi calling on AT&T with an LG G6 phone and used it. I have never activated any device on WiFI calling with AT&T prior to this. Last night I put my sim in his old LG G6 and called AT&T to swap IMEI numbers. With that phone I was able to activate WIFI calling.
So is the issue really the unlocked note 8s IMEI numbers not set up with AT&T correctly and my dad got lucky or is it with the firmware software?
I have had so much help from BlueFox721 and a few others I know there is an answer out here.
The crappy thing about this is that it is more important for my dad to have WiFi calling than me but now that I know it is not working I don't want to give up!

I hope someone gets it figured out...It would be nice if everything just worked out of the box...
My phone is back to the state it was in out of box I believe. It is telling me Shave an update. I am not sure if the first time it updated it changed something that flashing back to original will not undo. I am contemplating trying to flash the same ATT firmware that I did on my dads or just wait and see what develops over the next few days. I have flashed so many times in the last 24 hours I am not sure what is in my phone

Not registered on Network...?

I gotta problem lol. I haven't used this phone in over a month because I destroyed my LCD. So when the new one came I put it on and the phone was okay... Well until it kept saying about me not being registered. I mean I looked everywhere and my phone is unlocked and I'm using TMobile. But it only gives me the voicemail notification and that's all. My signal been going in and out. and I just flashed a new rom (s8/s8+ port). I don't really know where else to go from here. I can't call or use my data or anything. 3days out from going back to school and still don't have it fixed... I need a second opinion before I will decide to go back to a stock rom then get root back.
Could be just something minor or...
I've got TMobile... (Well mint sim) they said that my sim card is purged and that they needed to update the Sim card or they'll send out another if nessacary. Hope they'll fix the problem.
Min and Prl is Null..
I'm guessing it's no longer the Sim card that's causing the problem. I still need help
Hey guys sorry for posting here but I was wondering if it's possible to use a sprint note 5 on Verizon? I'm thinking about getting the note 5 but I want to be able to unlock the bootloader and root. Only issue is I have Verizon. Any suggestions on which version of the note 5 I should get?
Thanks

Did you ever get an answer for this issue? I have a rooted Sprint Note 5 and switched recently to Verizon. Everything works right except my signal says roaming perpetually. That said, I am getting a data signal but I don't think it's up to snuff as far as 4g LTE. The way we got it going was the rep activated a SIM card with another phone before dropping it in mine. I had no data for a while but eventually got it to use data over mobile just, as I said, not full capacity mbps of LTE. I'm hoping to fix the signal saying roaming so I know if I have a 3g, 4g, LTE or whatever rather than just "R" and never being sure if I can access data over mobile with it being hit or miss. Any thoughts?

AT&T vs Unlocked US version

Are there any differences (Hardware like LTE, 5G Band differences or software differences) between AT&T and US Unlocked versions?
Hardware should be no difference. Radio bands should be the same. Software is different. The unlocked comes without carrier bloatware.
That is correct. The software is the only difference. I had the Samsung Note 10+ unlocked on AT&T. I couldn't get WiFi call or HD voice. This time I went the Note 20 Ultra AT&T version. Not a big deal. I just remove the bloatware from the phone using ADB. You can find articles on how to do it.
Weird that I was told by VZW that I couldn't wifi call on the unlocked version. But I can.
I had the U1 version on ATT. Worked great. Some menus missing, such as ability to choose VOLTE butncall quality was great. Has to call ATT to change to a 5g plan for 5g.
By the unlocked version, are you referring to the SM-N986B/DS? I am researching as well and I am on the AT&T network.
Edit: my bad misread title.
I had a U1 N10+ and as someone else mentioned, no wifi calling or HD Voice (VOLTE). Even flashing the U firmware. ATT typically has to Whitelist your phone to unlock those features. Running the U would unlock Video Calling (useless unless the other person is also on ATT) and Advanced Messaging (also an ATT only service). The day I got my N20Ultra, I popped my ATT activated sim, and no VOLTE / HD voice, and no wifi calling. Being on U1, the rest of the features weren't available (video calling, advanced messaging, vvm) which isn't surprising since it's debranded.
In another thread, it showed that Factory Unlocked N20Ultra will have HD Voice hut NOT wifi calling. That's fairly new, so YMMV. Saw the post earlier this week. Not sure it's it's live already or in the works. Some phones had support for WiFi calling and HD Voice, but the N20 series were showing only HD Voice at time of article.
I've since dumped att for Metro (Tmobile) for a few reasons, but primarily their reluctance for fully support a factory unlocked device. They are making a step in the right direction, but honestly, VOLTE and WiFi Calling should be standard features supported. Like why wouldn't you want me to call on wifi instead of clogging the wireless towers? Both work OOTB with Tmobile.
Edit: If you have no plans to switch carriers, I'd get it through att. Even if you run U1 for now, you can change your mind later and know all the features will work on U. If you buy factory unlocked, and need WiFi calling, there's no guarantee it'll work even if you load U firmware. In the past, the device has to have the IMEI specifically whitelisted on their end.

I spoke to AT&T for hours and they whitelisted my international Note20 Ultra IMEI. I still don't have Wi-Fi calling and they absolutely don't know why... I regret switching from T-Mobile to AT&T... but unfortunately have to stay with AT&T for 2 more years because of iPhone deals we got...
Guys, all you have to do is flash the U Home CSC for and you'll have all the features on ATT and still have U1 firmware on your U1 device. At least for me on this phone and two previous, the Samsung devices were already "whitelisted" with ATT
Can a US CSC be flashed to another snapdragon model, namely 9860?

No. If you're on the AT&T version, stay there.
I can't believe AT&T would whitelist all Samsung Unlocked devices, that would really surprise me. You can buy AT&T locked Galaxy phone and unlock it with AT&T since you bought it outright, and then of course it would be whitelisted.
Still Less Features for Factory Unlocked Models?
Read through this thread and tried digging around in all other logical forums and it seems that it's still the case that one cannot get WiFi calling on AT&T with a Factory Unlocked model?
Asking because Amazon is selling the Note 20 Ultra 512GB Factory Unlocked today for $1,200.
Found a Reddit thread that has people stating there will be a Samsung update that addresses this.
Have seen various posts in various places about flashing file(s)/ROM to enable this.
Any authoritative answer as to whether WiFi Calling (and Voice Over LTE) can be enabled on AT&T with a Factory Unlocked Note 20 Ultra? Or authoritative assurance it will, soon?

They cannot. Att and att based subsidized carriers. Do not allow byod on votle or wifi calling. I have a trick to make it work for a couple hours. So I know its possible. But after a few hours their systems reprovision your device and shut them back off.

Too bad. Thanks for the reply. Feel better about passing up the sale especially since it will probably be a common sale price during Xmas sales.
And WiFi Calling is too important a feature to trade for a discount of a hundred or even two.

Yea. If you provision volte and wifi on a actual att phone and sim swap they work for a while. Usually around 4 or 5 am. Then it shuts off and never works again. Till sim swap and reprovision
VoLTE on unlocked Samsung S20 and Note20 series phones is set to "on" by default, but unchangeable (greyed out). As of right now, there is no ability to select WiFi calling until Samsung decides to grace those of us with unlocked phones that ability.

There is a long term method but it involves calling att, and getting your IMEI registered so you can get VOLTE and wifi calling. Ask customer service. I can't remember the name of the department you need to request. It takes a couple of weeks and then you suddenly get a weird sms (something like IMEI provisioned) and then it works. Did it on note 9.

Question hotspot doesn't work on unlocked Pixel 7 Pro with AT&T network

Hi. I bought a new Pixel 7 Pro from Google store and tried using the hotspot on it with my AT&T carrier. I noticed that I do not get an IP address from the phone. I verified with the carrier that I have it on my plan and they told me it is because my phone is unlocked which seems like BS to me. I have not rooted it or changed from the factory ROM and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on getting this to work? I put my SIM into my old Pixel XL that has a custom ROM on and is unlocked and hotspot works fine on it.
Thanks
Anyone got any ideas?
Mine works just fine.... On at&t as well... Dunno what's going on with yours
Mine works as well w/AT&T - I would reach out to AT&T and they can double-check the settings for your device, shouldn't take long.
I called them today and actually got someone with a brain. Went through many settings and then said my hotspot limit was reached to 3GB even though I had not used it in a couple months and just started a new billing cycle. I added 12GB of hotspot to the plan and then it worked! I am so glad someone took the time to look over the account to realize this as when I logged into AT&T's website it showed I had not used any of the data of the hotspot. Who knows why the computer on one end was different then what I saw but this fixed it. I am very happy. Thanks All!

Lol You can't hotspot because your device is unlocked xD, she should be fired for making customers believe that bs
You say "AT&T carrier" - are you by chance referring to an MVNO? Cricket, for example? Cricket doesn't allow BYOD devices to use hotspot. Older devices can evade their detection but newer ones cannot.
@J0nhy, I bought a brand new Google Pixel 7 Pro unlocked from the Google store. It is for sure unlocked.
And yes, AT&T is my carrier (that is who the bill comes from and my SIM has their logo stamped on it), not Cricket.
Yeah if you have AT&T, just call tech support and hang up and call again until you get someone who can investigate why it doesn't work rather than blaming the unlocked device.
I tethered via USB just fine. I have an unlocked phone and I'm on AT&T as well.
Just customer service some don't know what they are doing and others are better at their job. I'm glad all it was, was a setting from the carrier and not my new phone. I love this new Pixel 7 Pro. The best phone I have ever owned.
Root the phone, install VPN Hotspot from play store... I go through 70gb+ a month. Not a single bit of hotspot data.

I second this. I use VPN hotspot as well with a VPN. I've tried it on Verizon and T-Mobile but not AT&t. Having both VPN hotspot and a VPN on, the ISP as no idea that you're using hotspot and you can have unlimited hotspot.
