Running emui 8 on my mate 9 MHA-L29C432, the 2g/3g/4g icon doesn't appear on top of mobile signals icon when mobile data is OFF but they appears once i turn ON mobile data.
I am also using emui 9 on another of my set and it shows 2g/3g/4g icon on top of mobile signal even when the mobioe data is off.
Pic attached for reference
From what I remember. This is normal. Seeing the "g" connection means there is a data connection, which is why its not there when you turn off Mobile Data. You can still make/receive calls when its not there, the only problem would be if there was a "x" where the signal bars would be. (Meaning there isn't a valid connection to the carrier)
I cant comment on EMUI 9 since my Mate C567 is still on 8.0 Build 377

Hi,
today I was wondering about that. My N5 still holds a connection to LTE while it uses internet over a WLAN network. Only when I'm getting a call it switches to E/H/3G whatever to build up the phone call. Isn't it wasting battery holding up the LTE connection (LTE needs more power than the rest doesn't it?)?
Do you guys know why its made like this?
Thanks,
S3cret

Phone calls use data? It should say disconnected. Does it persist after a reboot?

No it doesn't use mobile data. I'm just wondering that its still saying that the network type is LTE, cause when It's connected to a wlan the network usage would only be for phone calls and LTE does only support mobile data but no calls or sms. Just wondering why the network type isn't changing to GPRS or whatever.

Your picture looks normal, this screen shows the data network type, not your cell voice/sms connection. The network is LTE, but is disconnected while you are connected on Wifi.
To see what is happening, look on the status bar. It shows the Wifi icon then the cell signal strength but not LTE. When you disconnect the Wifi, the Wifi icon will disappear and LTE will appear next to the cell signal strength icon. If it is doing that, all is working correctly.

Yup its doing right that.
Still a little weird for me^^
Nvm, thank you guys.
Hello,
after the last Droid Ultra Update to 4.4.4 I've started having this weird behavior. I'm a T-Mobile, locked bootloader.
When I'm connected to a WiFi network, the phone status bars shows signal strenght + the LTE or HSDPA symbols
When I'm NOT connect to a WiFi network the LTE or H(SDPA) icon goes away... I can do phone calls but mobile data is indeed disabled. I've double checked all the settings menu entries and data should be enabled - also the APN settings are fine ... even so the LTE/H icons appears only once I connect to WiFi.
It' driving me crazy.
Thanks.
When you turn on hotspot 4GLTE logo shows up, right? Unfortunate for everyone. It is some problem with the system which Verizon has populated the build.prop to disable the data outside of Verizon. Nothing could be done, as far as I could tell, until root is achieved (bootloader unlock).
Mobile data "H" mark appears over my signal bars although mobile data is disabled.
Hello, After successfully trying to root my Z3 Dual 5.1.1.
the new pre-rooted stockrom had something weird in the status bar, it is that the signal bars always has the mobile data "H" sign although mobile data is disabled.
Is it a visual bug ? or it is not visual and is draining battery and keeping the data online 24/7 ?
My original region is MENA Egypt, but the prerooted rom is Brazil.
Thank you,
TL;DR : Mobile data disabled, But the "H" mark is still up there at the signal bars.
HI Guys. I think this is what's known as a 'senior moment'! I'm still getting used to the subtle differences between my new Mate 9 and my previous Android phones and I have a question about the icons at the top of the screen...
I'm sure that with previous phone,s if WiFi was on it didn't show the data connection via the phone e.g. H+/3g/4g - in other words, it was one OR the other.
I just noticed that on my Mate 9 (L29) BOTH are showing - see attached. Is that unusual? ... or am I going nuts?
Thanks
Huawei does it different, you're not going nuts!
I actually even have the internet speed up there too?...

I think it's how Huawei manages Wi-Fi +
They're a lot more efficient at switching between mobile data and wifi than anyone else....
Thanks for the info! :good:
Trouble is even if I turn off mobile data and wifi 4g LTE icon still persists. Is that also a Huawei thing?

Turning WiFi off has nothing with 4G.
However ('Huawei thing'), even without Mobile data, it still connects to 4g (but it shall switch to 3g for calls - you can check).
You can disable 4g in Settings / Wireless & network / Mobile network / Preferred network mode, select 3g/2g auto

With mobile data off, it still shows 4G icon in status bar and doesn't connect to anything. My point being it shouldn't show the 4G icon in status bar when mobile data is toggled off.
I believe this has to do with region C185 firmware. As the western Europe versions don't seem to exhibit this behavior.

Yes, it still shows 4g icon because IT IS connected to 4g - please read my previous post/answer
And you can install Net Monster or LTE Discovery and you will see that it is indeed connected to 4g (and to which 4g band, etc) while idle (although you switched Mobile Data off). It only switches back to 3g during the call.
It's not that icon is wrong, it is Huawei behavior.
And it doesn't matter, nothing is wrong in that - it just means that although you switched Mobile Data off, it still attaches to 4g when you are not in call (although you are not using 4g data)
Install Net Monster, LTE Discovery, Net Monitor or Network Cell Info Lite to see details about the band, cell, etc, it us really attached to

It just so happens I have the pro version Network signal info. Yep you're effin right. Its says it's connected. Albeit won't let me upload nor download data. Why does Huawei do this? Other devices normally when disconnected from mobile data show just bars and not 4g LTE icon.
Hello everyone, I have oneplus 8 IN2019 Verizon with unlocked carrier and using different sim card outside USA. My phone is on Android 11.
I keeps on getting these messages (pictures attached) you are currently out of mobile network range, even though I have few bars or sometimes full bars, I can't even make single calls but receive all the call on low bars
