OOS uses about 12. So don't see what issue 2gb extra is for a custom ROM. Never used it myself so can't say if #wurf

Interesting that OOS takes that much space. Since I'm not using oos, anyway to shrink that partition?

Edit: I plead the 5th

No you can't change partitions, there space used is the rom expanded and internal data partition for the apps, the whole storage is used for System A and B partition, internal data and external sdcard data. Basically you don't ever get to use the whole 64-128GB of storage.

AICP is taking about 13GB so I don't think 14GB is won't. It might.

roms take more space after being flashed
so to increase your memory you can uninstall unwanted system apps and other apps and after that boot into recovery and wipe cache partition and then reboot you will really have more free space
also
you are having space issues right??
dont you use sd card ??

If you do the correct wipes and install an aftermarket ROM, is should take up less space. Most aftermarket ROMs are quite a bit smaller than the stock ROMs. There are a few running around in this forum that are heavily bloated with stuff to make the Tab more media friendly, but these are the exceptions. With that being said, did you do a clean wipe prior to install? If not, that's the issue. There's some left over data in there. Also, the memory is partitioned into sections, one for the ROM and one for storage. Getting a SD would be good so you can store your backups there. Backups take up a lot of memory.

yes bro i totally agree with you 16 gb internal storage is filled up very quickly if we install apps and play movies and songs and do some gaming
that's why i was asking that whether @nycdave was having sd card or not

GUYS..... first of all thank you so much for taking the time to respond. this has been a thorn in my side for a while now.. i do indeed have an sd and prior to the switch from stock to cm10.2 i was able to employ the ext script to swap memory which worked well overall. i do not know of any viable way to employ any memory swap script or app thast works well with cm10.2 i have done a great deal of research and i have not seen anything.. im also not a noob but i do feel like on right now!!!! this is so annoying. here are my questions:
do you know of any app to sd applications that work with cm10.2?
do you know of anyway to install apps to the card?
as for the wipe.... yes I did wipe completely ( at least I thought I did) I wiped data, system, cache, dalvik, and then formatted system, cache, data then wiped then cleared dalvik again prior to rebooting. this was thorough and typically what i do when I flash.
im totally open to suggestions. as of now the tab is pretty much rendered useless because I cannot even update apps. it only sees 4.59gb of the onboard space and the entire 16gb of the ext card.
thanks !!!!!!!!!!!

also to move apps to sd you can try app2sd script or any app which move apps to sd card on rooted phones

storage issue

Hello, I have this phone (8gb) since August and never noticed how much storage I have until now because it started notifying me storage was full. Well, it says total space is 4,53gb and without /system 3,60. So my question is, where is the 4gb of storage that I don't see? I was hoping it was occupied by /system but it is not. We're talking about a half of the storage and it's unbelievable that I cannot use at least 5 of the 8 I've payed for.
Any help would be very appreciated!
4.53 gb is your /data partition(user apps and data are stored here), other space is used in /system partition where all system files are located.
Is there a way to resize the partitions?

it was possible to resize partitions in many phones and there are also apps available on playstore for it. but you should reset it to default before flashing any rom. :/
And do you think reducing /system may be a problem?

when I was using stock, my system partition was filled by 1.5gb from 2.19gb. there is still some space there but you shouldn't reduce it because it will get filled over time with app updates. and there will be problem with ota updates if you resize it.

twrp not formating system

Is this normal that system always had about 6gb space used, even after formating? And after flashing asop rom sized 500mb, in system 6,9gb is used
anyone?

Everytime i install an app it says out of space.

Hi there
I have done a small search of the thread on this section of the forums but it seems I can not come up with the answer.
I have an old N5 16gb model. Running on DU 6.0.1 rom. Every time i install an app it says there is no space and i need to delete some apps before i can continue.
If i delete apps it still doesn't work. If i clear the cache it works.
As i go along it seems i am getting less and less apps on the phone. Android system is taking 3.42 gb of the partition.
I have never done anything to the partitions when i wiped the phone to put on a new rom. Just wipe and install rom.
Any suggestions?
Secondly If i flash a android 7 rom do i need to repart the phone? I haven't flashed anything in about a year so i am a little rusty.

Apps are getting bigger and bigger but you should check the twrp folder, maybe you have a backup or two that you don't need so you should erase them. Around 3gb per backup in average.

I figured that the apps are getting huge. Looks like it might be time to update the old phone then. Nothing in the twrp folders.
I have about 600mb left on the device. I have deleted everything else i can.

You could try to format your internal SD or install DiskUsage to find out which app takes most of the space. I think it must be an app with a huge cache.

Settings->Storage->Cached data click on it and choose to delete it.
About flashing 7 ROM it is highly required to do clean install(wipe everything), everytime you switch from one ROM to another, if this is what you meant by restarting device. Re-partition wont be needed, just wipe and flash.

Sweet! I do the cached data wipe every time i need to install something. It's the only way i can get something on there.
I was wondering about the repartition as i heard the 7 roms are fairly large.

Re-partitioning won't be necessary, if you use pico/nano/micro variants of GAPPS package.

[CONCEPT] Using A/B Slots for dual ROM Boot

Attention developers!!!
I have an idea of a concept where the A/B slots could be used to boot 2 different ROMs simultaneously one on Slot A and another on slot B using another data partition. Is it possible?
Feel free to discuss in this thread.
It would work, but we only have one data partiton. You have to split it (like on the mi a1 I think?)
I have found a good method for dual-booting, but some roms don't work and there is only 1 data partition.
I have lots of ideas ???
Can we not split the single data partition into two separate partitions for data?

Well then storage for each partition will decrease and it may be a issue for installing apps and other data am i right?

You can use one slot for daily driver rom with a bigger data partition size and use the other spot for experimental rom with a smaller data partition size. How many of us really use the entire 64gb or 128gb storage for data?

Hmmm.....but what about that encrypted storage thing??
Won't it interefere with booting the rom?
And would our device be able to handle rom switching?
I mean im not that an expert but atleast what i hav heard about the boot.img being incompatible with both the roms is it possible to dual boot???? I really want a custom rom and oos pie in my device???

Only a developer would be able to answer those questions. As far as i know, anything is possible!
Anyway, we can use twrp as dual boot manager?

TWRP offers to switch the slot which is how i got the idea that probably we could have two ROMs installed and switch the slot from TWRP as and when required.

In order to make things simpler, decrypted data partition would be a pre requirement.
Encryption is not really useful for most people and a possible issue doing this kind of manipulation to actually make some sense out of (otherwise useless) A/B partition scheme
This idea would probably be slow and a lot of overhead (i.e. wasted battery) but you could theoretically create a writable disk image and then have the ROM dynamically mount that in the data location. No idea how it would work or if it would work.
Otherwise, you could always look into chroot or something like that. Just throwing ideas out, I have no development capability.
can i install pie on one slot and if for whatever reason do not like can i go back to the other slot? rooted as well? thank u!
Smartest op ever
maybe a possibility?
Ive used "DualBootpatcher" on many devices in the past. I don't know if it works on a/b devices like the op6.
Let me know if it does, and if it bricks your device.
Looks like it works on the op5!:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/development/patcher-dualboot-multiboot-oneplus-5-t3633150
And the 5t is officially supported!

Maybe somebody can reach out to the developer

Yeah I'd love to dual boot my op6, I'm really missing it because I used it on my Nexus 5x and it was really useful, we should all reach out to the devs of multiboot or dual boot patcher or someone could port it, that'd be amazing
Anything is possible, the issue how much development would be required. My guess here is the answer is "so much that no one is going to bother."
There's nothing special about A/B. It's just duplicated partitions, a system for flagging which set is active, and using the arrangement for seamless updates. It's not designed for dual boot because both slots are intended to use the same data partition. So at the very least you'd need some function to split or otherwise change how the data partition is used. Given that much of this is baked into core Android, I suspect that hacking it for dual boot would be both unstable and a risk of brickage. Past tools for non-A/B phones are most certainly not going to work here.
