i notice that when i use my phone on 4g when charging the temp exceeds 40C. is this normal? i kno this is dual core but what is the max safe temp for this phone?
I made a post about this a couple days ago and no one answered but mines usually at 94 F and 110 while charging . . i was wondering the same thing..
In my experience
I think this is just a normal occurrence in the android world. Because in both my N1 and G1 i had this same problem they would just become super hot when using extensively(Which kills the battery faster fyi) or when charging, but for charging I have heard of people using Set CPU to lower settings so that it doesn't get as hot. As far as i have ever heard though it isn't great for the phone/battery, but have never heard of actual damage coming from it.
Yes, it happens to my G1 and also my G2x. Usually when I'm charging the phone and using it at the same time, the temp would go up to 43.5C.
Extensive overheating of any semiconductor is bad and will shorten the lifespan i believe, but i think these temps should be 'normal' for these processors. Maybe there's code to tell the phone to automatically shut down after the cpu surpasses a certain temp? Like how modern desktops would.
Well hopefully when custom roms and kernels come out this will improve. My mytouch 4g used to get to 40C sometimes, but after loading up cm7, it never exceeds 35C even when OC'd to 1.2ghz
Hi,
My explorer has some kind of heating problem.Well its summer now and weather is very hot in asia okay...... But usually when browsing(opera mini) video playback or gaming(medium) the temp remains in 40s C.Its okay it remain below 45C.But when I make a hotspot and use my phone internet on pc with wifi. The temp goes up to 52C! which is really hot.So i guesd I should not use it like that cuz such a temp can damage the battery? multi-tasking also rise the temp.So does the explorer really has such problems? or its just me?

So I guess HTC phones usually heat too much.......
Everybody have this, but here question is: Battery getting hot, or the phone, if it's battery, it's not a biggie, if it's the phone, there may be something wrong with yours. When I use it like you, back metal thingy is getting hot but that's not so scary.
re
Well, if the temp goes above 50C, battery stops charging. The dangerous temp for battery is 60C(written on battery). While my one went up to 52C yet.
However, I noticed that the front part of phone also becomes hot.Even the screen becomes hot.It is then when battery is @50C+.
Well, sharing my experience....after listening songs and playing games i.e. continuously using explorer for 2-3 hrs..my temperature reaches to 44-46 deg F. dats max. screen doesn't burn, only the backcover feels hot.
-using stock rom.
overheating
as in my case i when i swiched over to a class 10 memory card my problem was solved
but when i installed sd boost app the problem started again .. unistalled  no much difference in performance ..
Temp. of 52 C is normal for phone,
HTC's Innovation Wins again by providing a Heat Sink at the back panel of our Little pico which really looks premium and maintains the temp. of Internal hardware...
Don't worry, just try to keep it cool in this hot season by sacrificing the overload on processor (Dont multitask !!!)
Do you have overclocked CPU? That may cause the heating. Anywhere near 40 degrees is normal in summers, where the air temperature itself is around 40 degrees. I take my phone to bed, and it usually goes very hot when it goes below the pillow, so hot that i remove the battery and keep it aside for a few minutes.
And yes, the metal on the back cover tends to get heated, nothing to worry.
I would probably quit multitasking, and get a battery saver app that will switch off components like wifi when not in use.

Even if it's overclocked,
most of the time it's working on lower speed.
I overclocked mine to 800 Mhz but it almost never run at 800, only in some games.

Hi guys,
I bought my su 870 ( Korean version of p720 3d max) 2 weeks ago. I liked almost everything about it except the issues i will state below:
1. Heats up while charging and sometimes stops charging because of heting up to 55 degrees.
2. Heats up while its on standby and 2g network is on.
3. Heats up while on standby and only whatsapp and yahoo messenger r running in background.
4. Heats up like +&^% while i play a simple game or use the net or use wifi or use play store or pretty much anything.
5. Heats up to n over 55 degrees quickly while watching 3d. And no chance of watching 3d and charging simultaneously. Over heats.
6. Gives only 20 to 25 minutes video playback time on 3d at max. Of course heats up.
7. Gives a 1 hour apps usage time including net. Heats up.
8. After restarting works fine unless i put in even one app from play-store and then it heats up.
9. Heats up while using a simple app like whatsapp or if i simply keep the screen on.
10. Heats up if i charge via the USB and shows slow charging on USB.
11. Heats up if i put it in a pouch.
I've tried task killers, they help but not much, have to delete apps to make it work.
That is all i remember for now but u get my point, IT HEATS UP. I'm running stock unrooted ginger bread 2.3.6. I want to try upgrading but currently have no internet connection. So i would really appreciate it if anyone could help me out. I use my S.G.S.2 in an Xmart all plastic pouch, played full hd videos on the S2 while modern combat was running in the background n it still didn't heat up. So please help me out. I really like this cellphone n i don't want to replace it. Thanks.

probably by any reason you have constant CPU usage. Download CPUSpy and check that.
Download Wakelock and see which program make a huge wakelocks there - uninstall it.
Then if your phone is rooted download SetCPU and set the Governor not to be on Performance, but s.t. else like OnDemand

thanks for replying. i did what u asked. ive only got whatsapp in wakelock with 1 minute average. nothing else.
as ive already mentioned i dont have root.
in cpu spy at
1200 is 3.2%
1008 is 9.8%
300 is 32.6 n 50.4 in deepsleep.
so no problem in there either.
since yesterday ive recharged it twice n during recharge it hovers around 48 degreessometimes 45 or 44. during average use it stays at 38 t0 41 degrees, and in light games goes upto 48, in heavy games it goes well over 55.
its not he3ating up while its either anymore but it hetas up everytime i use the cam or watch video or games. is that much heat normal for this? also it stops charging at around 53 degrees heat
i would like to add the the region on the right side of the battery is where it hetas up so much. in battery its acceptable. And it heats up so much wjile charging and watching a video that it stops charging within ten minutes because of exceeding the 55 degree mark.

I have original battery. Just now when i was charging it chrged to about 60 % and ten stopped charging because it heated up to 55 degrees. just because playstore and whatsapp were open in background and downloading skype from play store via my 2g network. now its slowly cooling down. Anyway thanks for trying vlad.
CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE.
So ive been testing it a lil more. i played a hd 3d movie on it, it was qround 42 degrees when i started movie n it was charging. after 40 minute of playback it is at 53 degrees. no other app running in background. I even monitered the cpu frequency and 1 core was on 50 percent and the other was completely off at an average.
Edit: while testing i kept the back ventilated at 26 degrees temp.
Guys help me out please. is it supposed to go so hot? and does ur cellphone stop charging after reaching 55 degrees? i would realy appreciate any feedback. i dont think any cellphone should heat up above 50 degrees no matter what the condition or loads. my s2 doesnt even when ive got it fully covered wth plastic bag.

my p920 is charging right now (1amp wall charger) , room temp at 31ºc phone temp at 35ºc... even in performance governor @ 1250mhz overclock i think i never saw my phone reach 50ºc and it never overheated.
unfortunately what you describe sounds more like hardware problem than anything else. i would try factory reset just to be sure it isn't some software hogging the cpu and then send to lg if problem persists.
so whrn I turn my alcatel on it heats to a warm temperature at the top, after about 10-15 minutes it gets too hot, then when i do few things at the same time or play games the monitor and all the back are extremly hot, should i be preocupaded?
Its a 5.5 32 g dual sim
I'm portuguese here temperature is near 40 c° sorry my bad english

it does get really warm in hot climates, get CPU-Z and check the thermal temperatures, if the cores go above 70 c° then it has overheated and can fry the mobo.
hello, the battery is at about 40c ° and cpu sensors detect between 56c and 48c ° ° I am now using a lot of functionality but nothing heavy games, when it is too hot will go back to see the temperature! your comment let me relieved I still have to see if it reaches the 70 hope not!
Today playing real racing 66c°. :crying:
I do think that it is normal if outside the temperature is around 40C.
Most electronics would get even hotter in that temperature.
My note 4 gets up to 80°c. Trust me your phone is fine dude. They thermal throttling on each smartphone for it hits temperatures that are too high.
Hi, 3 day ago I recieved my Mi4c (3gb) and just after couple of minutes surfing on the net I realized, that the top of the phone is really hot (the bottom was normal). The next day I tried it with game - after just one or two rounds (about 2 minutes) phone got hot again - again at the same area. I downloaded some app and I looked at the temperature after running the game - it showed even 55 degrees Celsia. Is it faulty piece or is it just software issue, which can be fixed by different ROM ?
Under load, the SD808 can get pretty warm.
Add to that the fact that MIUI (in all of its various forms) is a steaming, overheated pile of rhinoceros feces and you have a terrible combination just asking for heating problems.
TS CM13 does a pretty good job of mitigating the software issues that lead to heating.
The phone will always get warm when playing moderately intensive games or when used in direct sunlight on warm (30c+) days.
I found that the miui versions some vendros provide are manipulated or corrupted by vendors,
I suggest you check if your bootloader is unlocked, install a recovery, do a total format (not a factory reset, a full system format from recovery) and install the latest miui,
I had overheating issues and the phone would eat the battery away in less then 12 hours, i did this and im currently going on 39h standby and around 1 - 1.5 hours screen time and i still have 34% of the battery life.
Clean house, start from zero and you might be surprised.
Just installed MIUI 7.1.6.0 Global stable from xiaomi.eu and I like it more tham MIUI 8 already. Plus, phone seems to be a little cooler. Snapdragon 808 is still a hot chip though, so don't expect miracles.
Switched from MIUI 8 because of heat and battery life issues.
I tested different rooms and every room has overheating. The only difference is the time the systems downclock the CPU.
In cm13 I changed the values so it doesn't close the big cores so fast.
But the big cores are still the most time off.
Normally my Temps are between 40 and 60 °C
And that's bad.
Miui doesn't change anything.. Only the time of throttling.
I don't need a phone that throttles itself when turned on.
When I'm home I'll try to open the back cover and take a look.
Maybe I can hard mod it in some way.
I'm facing the same problems here.
I use dual Sim, so I thought this could be the signal usage. But my battery is draining faster and faster. Some times even dropping from 14% to 10% in 1 sec!
When using wifi, the cpu reaches over 50ºC (currently 57-59ºC). MIUI 8 didn't help much.
I'm using my phone a lot, 3G and screen on for long time, but it's dropping from 100 to 15% in less than 7 hours...
Is there anything that I could do?
Install MIUI 7.1.6.0, temps and battery are better, or go Apollo the way and flash CM13 or Slim
I have over-heating problem too. Specially by keeping screen on for several minutes. I'm on miui 8 by xiaomi.edu
The overheating is caused by a ****ty rom some vendors use,
Install the latest recovery, and do a full advance wipe (everything except OTG USB), then do the format,
DO NOT REBOOT the phone, connect it to the PC and copy over the latest miui weekly (i used 6.9.1) and flash it, then see if it keeps overheating.
Apparently some of the malware some vendors install are hard to get rid of, i had weekly, monthly, slim6, Teamsuperluminal and Omni rom installed, and they all showed the same issue. it wasnt until i did this "sanitation" process i managed to get rid of the heat issue.

You found some way to hard mod it ? =) The snapdragon 808 would be very powerful if there aren´t that overheats.
Making some holes in the back cover (get out hot air) or give more space (case is extremly tightly built) ? A heat pipe (passive cooling)?
Things are a lot better using an undervolted kernel. Built one from kuma sources (not for MIUI), I could share if you want.

nice idea with passive cooling
i glued my nhd 14 to the back that helped
no serious i dont have any clue to make the phone cooler with hardware modifications.
without the backcover it isnt cooler. the difference isnt noticable.
i would say how the cpu is build into the phone is wrong.
for me the phone isnt worth it anymore. im moving to a BQ or the HTC10.
why should i use a phone that i have to downclock to a fraction of its performance ?
or i use normally and get throttled after 20 minutes?
and it doesnt matter which os i use any miui or cm version suffers from overheating.
so i think ether xiaomi make mistakes while building the phone or it is just the bad 800 series.
but looking at the lg g4 the picture is the same. so qualcomm is to blame for it.
sorry for this but the only solution is to use a fan on the back OR the better solution buy a better phone ;(
edit:still finding grammar fails
For anyone willing to try this is an undervolted kernel based on kuma's sources and a modified msm8992-regulator.dtsi with lower ceil voltages.
Tested only on CM13 but should work for other ROMs based on CM13. It can make your phone unstable (freezes, crashes), so before you try either keep a backup of your current kernel or simply boot (don't flash!) the kernel to ensure that everything works normally:
Code:
fastboot boot undervoltedk.img
@Ydraulikos
im already using a kernel from kuma (Resurrection Rom) and yeah its very great, less overheating. The Rom itself is slim for less heating too.
But its overheating though while playing 3d games for a longer time.
@kar5ten
..nhd 14.. that would look funny xD.
Yeah the problem is the cpu. Snapdragon 808 and 810 suffering from overheating, 810 more.
But xiaomi could handle this too. Not use this cpu or built better cooling system, instead make it as thin. The most temperatures i have is on the top right. If they used passive cooling like pipe heats for distribute the heat, we don´t have this problem or rather less overheating.
@Ydraulikos thanks i will try this.
@Danny94
i made another test.
i use resurrection rom 5.7.1 with oc kernel 1.12 (intelliactive gov.) custom temp. throttle at 75 C
i opened the back and added aluminium foil .
10 layers on the upper side where the cpu sits and 6 layers above the battery and the cpu. they both are connected.
now i run antutu 3-4 times and i got these results
75899-74012-70371-68155
with max temp of 53 C after those 4 runs.
the idle temps are now at 30 -35 C most time
but i only tested it for 2 hours
@kar5ten
oh nice that sounds like a good idee! And withouth foil wich results you get, antutu - temps ?
The Alumiunium foil could take the heat from the cpu and distribute it over the device, for better result thermal paste as connection between cpu and foil could help.
Maybe with another material (foil) you could improve it as well. The best result you would get maybe if the backcover consists of metal, this way you could get the heat out of the phone, air cools metal. (problems.: back cover can get hot, you can heat back cover with hands[maybe a case])
Care about that foil doesn´t heat up the battery and the metal can disturb radio signals (gps wifi mobile data).
Could you share a picture as well of your modified version here in the forum, maybe one too please how it looks inside. At the moment i don´t have a plan how to open the back cover. =)
I will post some pictures but next weekend. Before I open it again I want to test it.
I don't know the exact results from antutu before I modded it.

Hi,
Did you have the opportunity to take some pictures of your mi4c modding?
would be also great to have a slight bigger case it probably help with the overheating.
