Best method to take an image from OP6 to OP7 pro? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi Guys, just as the title states,
Wondering what is the best/easiest method to essentially take an image of my old OP6 and migrate it to OP7 pro?
Would like to take all data if possible (settings, data, images, etc)
Nandroid? The Factory OnePlus Switch app?
Thanks for your time.

I used the OnePlus switch app to move from a Galaxy S8+ to my OP7 pro and it worked surprisingly flawlessly. It brought app data and settings and things I've always had to move manually in the past.

I used the same thing coming from my pixel it worked awesome

If you're rooted, titanium backup works a treat

Also, used OnePlus Switch.

Are there any 'backup' programs that do this ?

Ive tired MyBackup Pro and the apps it installs dont seem to get new updates.
Many apps (like handcent) dont keep any of there in app settings.
Ive heard Google backup works but not with root.
Is Titanium backup any good ?
Im looking for a program that will restore all my alarms/settings INCLUDING my individual app settings , AND registers everything on the market so i can continue to get updates.
Suggestions ?
Titanium pro (with donation) does everything you mentioned, plus! i cant find a better app for backup and restore. its about $4
Does the non-donation version not do all that then?
For some reason, I can not see the pro version in the market. I found the free one though. Anybody else having this problem?
Pro version is the same one.
When buying you get a txt file that you put in the root of your sd card and then you have pro version.
The only problem is:
I don't use paypal. No chance to get it on another way paid?
Titanium Backup rocks. It backs up apps & data, and restores the Market entries when it restores apps, so Market will show the updates. You can even back up system settings like the launcher (home screen) configuration. With the donate version it does even more cool stuff - highly recommended. It's one of the best apps out there for rooted phones.
So I can get those good features with the standard ?....but the PRO just makes it asier right ? ((seems like it says one touch install))

Mostly. If you ever want to do a batch restore (wiped phone?), the pro is well worth it. With pro you also get the ability to keep multiple backups so you can easily restore old versions/data, and it's faster.

Thanks for the tip. Will be trying it.
Titanium Backup
BTW, You dont need paypal to get it.
Click the donate thing on Titanium Backup Program.
Paypal will act as a middleman for your CREDIT CARD.
Safe and easy.
Did it yesterday, and within 10 minutes i had my "Pro" email.
As for the usefulness? If you backup 100 apps having to click install every time is ANNNOYING. Well worth 4 bucks to avoid that pain! Plus its faster backing up too, so really a small price to pay for your time.
Also, the program is pretty awesome, so well worth supporting the developer.
Yeah, I'd try it and its great!
Paypal with guest and VISA Card and 10 Minutes later I had my key-mail!
It works great! Everything fine!!!
My market/downloads section doesnt show up all apps (Titanium Free).
No other way to fix this but to upgrade to paid?

Helium backup

Well getting my device tomorrow. Hopefully helium backup will work on it when I get it. Currently don't work with nexus 6 though. Helium backup is a great app for migrating app data to new devices. Test it out if you haven't yet.

Helium piggybacks on ADB.

In other words....no you do not.
Nope. No root needed. Fantastic for changing devices or when you are a flashoholic.
Just need a computer to enable it when you use it.
Tested it with my s7e,and it works perfectly.
I have used helium in the past and loved it. It allows you to back up saved data as well which sets it apart from the improved Android re-install.
I will use it again when mine comes back. In fact it was on my todo list to back it up today in preperation. I am not sure when my Verizon edge 7 will be here..... but I ordered in the first 10 minutes so hopefully I will be in first batch shipped and get my middle of this week...... Fingers crossed!

Yep, I love the way helium deals with backups and whatnot. I flash my devices atleast once a week and it's been fine. Glad to hear that the s7 is no different, though it's not really a surprise since it runs M and firmware wise isn't much different from the current ones.

Really true..! It works great..! One of my favourite app
On my Galaxy S6 wit Marshmallow Helium Backup is working. Hopefully it will be the same on the S7 Edge. Let us know.:good:
How do I make helium work on the S7 with a Mac??
I'm pretty sure there is a mac version of the computer program on the website.
Don't forget about Samsung Smart Switch if your transferring apps etc if you don't get Hellium working

I've got it working and connected to S5 but for some reason my S7 won't connect to the Helium desktop even after enabling USB debugging and trying in both MTP and PTP modes.
All I can guess is driver issues but the ADB drivers from CWM say they're for all Samsung models.

Glad you brought this up... I'm finally getting my S7E tomorrow... I am torn between Helium and Samsung Smart Switch.
I've used Helium in the past for other phones and the only down side is that it doesn't backup 100% of the apps (not all apps work)
Can anyone speak to the Samsung Smart Switch software and process?? Does it work as easily as one would hope? Does it generally backup 100% of apps and their associated data?
Any chance someone has used both and has any feedback on which method is best, fastest, all inclusive and streamlined?
Thanks much!

After doing a little research, it looks like SSS doesn't backup app data (there might be a cloud option via Dropbox/Drive/Box).
So it looks like either Helium or via SDK (below)
http://www.techrepublic.com/article/how-to-create-a-full-backup-of-your-android-device-without-root/
Any thoughts?
Good news: Helium works almost perfectly. Samsung have done a lot of good past year for the PC side of things - SmartSwich and SideSync are very good. I had no difficulty in attaching the S7 via USB debugging and enabling Helium on Windows 10. Worked the first time. There are limitations - some apps don't allow Helium to back them up, they still remain.
Also, Samsung's own USB-to-USB restore is also nice, but it doesn't copy app data, though arguably it is the fastest way for other stuff. It even picked up the wallpaper from Lines icon pack I had from my S6 Edge + and had it applied - impressive. It didn't change the default launcher to Nova though and also didn't restore any settings or configurations.
ALERT: There will be errors. It is best advised to uncheck the apps causing the error. Also, some apps will APPEAR to restore but won't have their data. A second attempt will bring back the data.
Samsung Smart Switch is nice, but I found that while it backs up apps, it doesn't restore them. However it is a very good solution for non-app data such as Pics.
Also, AVOID restoring Kobo and Zinio, they just hang. Best to install afresh.
My advice: First restore through USB-to-USB restore - all the apps and stuff. On the second run through restore data through Helium.

Windows, Mac and Linux Versions.
worked for me to create a new backup on my new phone, then copy over all the backup folders from my old device's carbon folder, then finally a full restore with Helium. Took the phone a little time, but pretty easy and not much time requirement from me to do.
any one knows how to restore app by app with Helium? I can only restore in 1 block at the moment
Can't you just use the supplied otg to hook up the other phone and migrate data?

From Samsung Note 4 (Verizon) to Redmi Note 7

I have read quite a bit, on Reddit and other forums/sites, on how people back up and restore their android devices when getting a new phone and it seems everyone just does something different or choose from multiple ways to approach this kind of situation. I have done it in the past and was able to back up and restore everything without losing anything but I don't remember if I used Smart Switch or some other software. I also wanna do it only if it's necessary.
What I wanna do is root the Note 7. I have never rooted a phone before but have wanted to for removing bloatware and making the phone faster but what other reasons are there to root? I mean really good reasons. I was wondering if it's possible to root a phone and still restore everything but then I looked at all my apps and realized I don't need too. Some apps save everything online and will restore once I install the app and sign in to my account like the notes app I use. I wanna back up app data for certain apps like Shazam, voice recording apps plus my text messages, call logs and contacts, pics and vids. Is there a way to just transfer certain apps?
So, is it possible to root and then restore or vice versa? How do I go about this?
Thanks
Nobody? Did I post in the wrong place?

Question Ram Management Issues

Hey Guys
I am experiencing quite a bit of refreshing of the apps when switching between apps. This has been happening on the last 2-3 phones I've owned but more so on the Pixel 7 Pro than the Sony Xperia 1 III (12gb ram, Android 11) and Asus RoG Phone 5S Pro(18gb ram, Android 12). All 3 are unlocked and rooted. Last phone to not have this issue for me was the OnePlus 8T (12gb ram, android 11).
I'd be browsing some article online for example, switch to the reddit app, check out a few things there, go back to the browser and my page refreshes back to the top. I'll do some more browsing, switch to a sudoku game or solitaire, after a few rounds, switch back to reddit and I end up back on top of the front page. I turned off battery optimization for both the browser and reddit but it still happens (possibly less often though).
Anyone else experience this. Any suggestions to fix it? Maybe its some Magisk module?
I have zero issues with the RAM management on this phone, it's better than every recent phone that came before it (OnePlus 9, Pixel 3 XL, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 8 Plus). If you restored your backup, try doing a factory reset and setting it up fresh without restoring any apps or settings. You would be amazed how many problems that solves.

Mine was a freaking mess when I restored via Swift. Been smooth as butter since a factory reset
Also no issues here. I am actually amazed of how well RAM management works. I go to work, use some apps on the way there (public transport, etc.) and after whole day when I'm going back home the app is still loaded. I am just "WOW" each time. And I use phone during the day as normal...Chrome, Instagram, Messenger, Calls, ...
I always recommend a fresh install. I did not do a fresh install this time in an effort to see if Google has "finally" improved on their backup/restore routine. For "ME" it has been a flawless experience but then again I do NOT have a bazillion apps to restore! So in actuality I feel that the difference between success and failure when allowing Google to restore everything may be dependent on the quality, and amount of apps that are restoring. YMMV

I also restored with Swift Backup on this phone and previous ones. Its possible its tied into those backups not coming over cleanly. I restored about 200 apps this time around as some were 32 bit and were not able to move over. I may have to do a factory reset and manually install all the apps from the play store and only restore backup for the few apps that dont have it associated with the google account.

Is there a stable Custom OS ROM for the OnePlus 6 that has OxygenOS's Hidden Space feature?

Hi all,
TL;DR - Please does anyone have suggestions on a stable custom OS ROM for the OnePlus 6 that has something akin to OxygenOS 10's Hidden Space feature and has ongoing security updates? Many thanks in advance!
So here's the lowdown. I love my OnePlus 6, but when OxygenOS 11.1.2.2 stopped providing security updates in late 2021, it was time to buy a new phone. I decided to go with the OnePlus Nord 2 5G, which from a hardware perspective was definitely upgrade (just crazy amount of RAM for the price). However, OxygenOS 12 has been nothing but a disappointment and I'm certainly not a fan the move to be more like Oppo's ColorOS.
OxygenOS's Hidden Space:
One OxygenOS feature I use a lot is the Hidden Space, which is great to store hidden apps like those for online banking and password management in one convenient place. To ellaborate for those that are unsure what I'm talking about, in OxygenOS 10 (and also versions of OxygenOS 11 for, I suspect, selected OnePlus models) this was where you simply opened the App Drawer, swiped left and unlocked with your passcode/finger pattern/fingerprint biometrics. Boom! There are all your hidden apps you were able to access quickly, easily and reliably.
<rant>
This feature was made worse IMO in OxygenOS 12 where you instead had to use the stock phone call dialler to dial an visible unlock code (no other unlock options) to access the same hidden apps drawer. If that wasn't frustrating enough, if you wanted to use two hidden apps consecutively, OxygenOS 12 would send you back to the stock dialler rather than what OxygenOS 10 did and sent you back to where all your hidden apps were. Even worse, there is your viewable unlock code still populated in the call dialler for any one else to see if you didn't remember to completely close dialler app afterwards. It's like having a sign on your front door telling theives where all your valuables are and that they cans also find the spare key under the flowerpot in the front yard...
</rant>
Life after OxygenOS 12:
So it's been about 18 months and I'm ready move onto a new phone. I don't think a new OnePlus phone is an option given ColorOS for Android 13/14 will be on it and that the Hidden Space is still the same as it is on OxygenOS 12. I'm thinking of going back to Stock Android (and thus the Google Pixel 7) as I have previously bought the Google Nexus 5X and Pixel 1 phones. I could be wrong and being presumptive, but Stock Android has always felt cleaner, lighter and doesn't have the bloatware that annoys me about Samsung phones. However, I've been informed that Stock Android 13 doesn't have a built-in feature similar to the Hidden Space like OxygenOS has.
As an alternative I've had a little hands-on using a different launcher app (I've tried Nova Launcher Prime and Apex) on OxygenOS 12+ with the intent to use it Stock Android too, but that solution feels unfortunately cumbersome, at least from what I experienced when using Nova and Apex.
So my next idea I'm looking into is to attempt to install a custom ROM (something I've never done before) onto my OnePlus 6. And now it's all about seeing if there is a custom ROM that fit my requirements. Is there even continuous development/patching for custom ROM's with regard to security updates? I'm freshfaced to all of this that that I'm unsure on a lot of aspects, which is why I want to try this for the first time on a phone I don't currently use day-to-day.
Anyway, any suggestions of security patch supported custom ROM's with a in-built Hidden Space feature would be gratefully appreciated!
