After reading a few threads, it would seem that there is an msmtool for the tmobile variant now but still no method for root? I'm not counting the method to convert to international version.
Do I have this all correct or am I missing something?

The T-Mobile MSM tool is to revert back to the T-Mobile firmware. If you use the MSM tool to convert from the T-Mobile version to the international version, you can root but you must be SIM unlocked prior to converting to the international version.

Right I had mentioned that in my post, but I'm a little apprehensive to try it because I don't want to have issues with lte or wifi calling.
Is there no way to just root on my stock rom? I kinda just want a custom kernel and themes.

There are no issues what do ever with LTE of Wi-Fi Calling. They work great. The newest update for the Global/International version fixed the issue some had with Wi-Fi calling not switching over fast enough.

With the latest update of PI3 on the SM-G930U the bootloader is now on version 4. Found out trying too flash a version 2 bootloader from Verizon firmware.
What this means? Users on the SM-G930T that wanted a bloat free smooth firmware can enjoy just that now by downloading and flashing the latest PI3 firmware on sammobile or samfirm tool.
Damn ! That's some good news after so long !

Can you root this firmware?
Edit: Root is possible.
Be careful if you want to go from 930T to 930U and then back to 930T...I had to use Smart Switch because I was getting an error when flashing AP with ODIN...

Just a note, you'll lose FM radio support. I was really hoping they would include it in the update, but no love sadly. I have the U and am considering flashing the T for it. Comes in handy at the gym for watching tv, but then I'll have bloat. Decisions decisions.
Can I flash the tmobile modem over this and get the 4x4 mimo support? Or does that also include some code in the firmware?

No issues on my end. I flashed T then back to U without any hassle. Probably is your odin or faulty usb cable or port.

A somewhat silly question but does flashing the U firmware automatically unlock the SIM? Or is it still SIM locked?

No, flashing the U firmware does not Sim Unlock the device. You must first unlock then flash if you want to switch carriers. Otherwise just flash and use your same provider SIM.
I have AT&T unlocked S8+.
I done carrier switching now XXA.
but I still cant get VOLTE.

Is it time to start guessing what the URL on https://s3.amazonaws.com/oneplussupport/ will be?
My best guess was https://s3.amazonaws.com/oneplussupport/OP7P/guacamole_21.O.07_190512.rar but no luck.
Edit: Found the EU one! https://s3.amazonaws.com/oneplussupport/OP7Pro/guacamole_21_E.08_190515.rar
OnePlus is definitely using this as the root directory: https://s3.amazonaws.com/oneplussupport/OP7Pro/

Yes, this program will literally transform the T-Mobile variant into the international version you can buy from OnePlus directly. There is literally no difference between the two, you get the same OTAs as international version just as if you bought it from OnePlus

But now we know the filename. This one is apparently for 9.5.4 on the EU model (GM1913). Can't find one for the other builds. Maybe it works for US/Global/India.

U should have no issues with OTA, the tool turns ur phone back to as it was in the box, it relock bootloader, u roots and stock recovery, now there are some out there that could be modded to not delete userdata and no relock bootloader which means no incremental OTAs

No but we can at least unlock the bootloader on the T-Mobile version
Permanent SIM unlock can probably be done with fastboot commands after a bootloader unlock.
I should have the US (OnePlus Store, not T-Mobile) MSMdownloadtool tomorrow, with the password. Stay tuned on that front.

Thats only thing I want.
I wont have the tMobile one im in the UK and getting 5G variant and it might be sim locked but want to unlock bootloader and not wait 6 months before they give me unlock code.
I just called OP for the literally the 10th time today.
I told them I don't care about my warranty.. I just want the msm tool and unlock. Bin generator. They said that their technical support team is working on it. They also said they will be sending me an email with either the link for the MSM tool either today or tomorrow.
I doubt they will just give a token generator out but once we Hve our hands on the msm tool. We can sort some things out.
So... I have sim unlock, received bootloader unlock code from one plus... now what? From what I have read, I am able to root the stock firmware with Magisk.
If I want to go the custom rom route, it looks like a majority of the roms are based on international version and I need to convert to international first.
I did hear the TMO firmware is optimized for their Network for volte and wifi calling, so if I do change to international, what will be the advantages/disadvantages?
Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
I'm using the int version of the OP7P with a TMO US Sim and cannot report any problems, VoLTE and VoWifi do work.
I think @joemossjr found there may be a LTE band priority difference between international and T-Mobile specific ROMs. TBH, I stick to an official T-Mobile ROM primarily because I want to get the best possible performance on T-Mobile's network.
I'm on T-Mobile, but have a rooted international rom installed. VoLTE and VoWifi ALWAYS work without issues.

So what's the advantage for a rooted international rom vs a rooted tmo rom?
My understanding is that most of the custom ROMs available are based off that version, but if I stay stock and rooted, other than updates coming faster, would there be any reason to do the conversion?

Well, the international rom comes straight from oneplus, so it won't be over bloated with T-Mobile background apps. Won't have the magneta boot screen. Of course these things can be delt with in a rooted tmobile rom version. So mainly quicker updates (fixes).
Thanks for the feedback. I know the international version is way more popular than tmo, so the conversion is inevitable. Maybe someone will be able to work some magic and be able to help us figure out what the tmo optimizations are and have some kind of patch we can zip with twrp.

That would be awesome! But yeah, I'd like to know if there's a huge difference in the mobile data or whatever compared to the T-Mobile rom as well.
Anyone know? I'm just wondering if the only advantage using the T-Mobile rom over the International one is better Volte and Vowifi? Or are they pretty much the same?
Using the int version (bought it to avoid the unlock and reflash hassl, return the TMO OP7P.to the TMO shop after I found out after having asked when buying) with US and DE TMO sims, I did not find any issues. The OP7P finally supports VoLTE and VoWiFi with German TMO which the OP6 did not.
The only thing I've noticed so far running International on T-Mobile is a couple times I've lost signal completely and I'll get two SIM card symbols in my staus bar until I reboot. Otherwise it's been perfect.
I'm on TMO, bootloader unlock, rooted with twrp installed, for some reasons i can't install adaway it says not enough storage. I have plenty of storage like 230G. Can't find any answer as to why.
