just picked up a new shield tablet and i noticed screenmirror/miracast is not in the settings? i thought this was a feature all android devices had 'stock'.
will a custom rom help?
The ability to screen mirror has to be enabled in Services Framework for the device. It seems Google controls which devices get added to the whitelist.
I know that a Sony tablet just got added a few days ago (with very little fanfare).
Perhaps we should log RFEs on the Shield Tablet Forum so the devs can work with Google to add the Shield Tab to the device whitelist.
I know it can be enabled for chrome cast by making the changes listed in the commit listed in the op here http://forum.xda-developers.com/hardware-hacking/chromecast/experimental-enable-mirroring-device-t2812193 Don't know if it's the same thing but I saw a mention of wifi display. Maybe it will be something to look into.
Just wondering if this has been enabled by default in Lollipop?

Yes but is it actually working with chromecast? The device is not listed on the officialy supported devices on the Google website.

I tried it yesterday without success. It can not find any Chromecast device.
But the toggle is there suggesting they are hopefully working on it.
...or that google/ nvidia forgot to remove it.....
They added the other toggles so I doubt it. Its probably just not enabled by google. There is an app that will make it work if the proper files are there l, don't know about being compatible 5.0 or this but I could use it to stream my phone through the chromcast app while on 4.4. I'll try it later.

The mirrorenabler apk you are talking about only works on 4.4 last i checked. It also didn't work on 4.4 for this tablet - this is why i was wondering of they enabled screen mirroring as part of 5.0. I saw the toggle in some screenshots but i guess it's not really working.

Still doesn't work and doesn't support lollipop fully but I thought it'd be worth a try. It looks like the cast screen is on everything that has gotten relatively stock android (nexus, gpe, etc.) whether it is supported or not. My M8 has it but its also not working.

That's quite the odd issue. Have you asked this in the Bliss OS (x86) thread? https://forum.xda-developers.com/bliss-roms/bliss-roms-development/x86-bliss-x86-pc-s-t3534657
Any Luck?

I have the same issue on my Surface Laptop 2. Every install I try, no matter what it is, I have no keyboard. I am able to plug in a USB keyboard, but as you said, that really doesn't work for me.
Did you find any solutions?? I have no clue what to do. SUCKS not having a keyboard and I'm loving BlissOS.

Unfortunately no, keyboard doesn't work on BlissOS yet.
I asked the developer and he said he would be implementing drivers to make it work
I did get ubuntu to work - You might want to check this out:

I run the linux-surface kernel w/ Ubuntu on my SL3, and it runs great. I’m having issues getting Bliss OS to even boot off the usb; assuming I get it on, is there a way to install the linux-surface kernel in Bliss or would I break everything? It’s been a while since I’ve messed with Android so sorry in advance! (Also with the SL3; the Keyboard, mouse, and touchscreen do not work right off the bat with any linux distro/flavour afaik until you install the linux-surface kernel)
Yes, the easiest way to install the Linux surface modules for android is via gearlock using the gxp files available from gearlock forums. Install both the surface kernel module and the daemon from gearlock recovery menu during android boot up not from within android terminal. Touch screen may not work from every boot has been my only issue.
you can use gearlocks windows advanced android installer to install android and include gearlock from windows as well or install gearlock to most flavours of android x86 after the osnhas been installed.
you are also better off placing any gxp files into the dedicated gearlock folder as thats easily visible to gearlock during recovery

Anyone having the latest pro version of mi tv with Android 8.1?
A very useful tool which shows all the required information for identifying the correct firmware in case of something went wrong with the OS. So, keep in mind to place the screenshot of it somewhere safe. The app shows the detail of your display panel id, rom version, platform id...... All this is data is required before flashing a new rom as MiTv has so many many variant like MiTv 4a 49" has more than 4 variant, like wise for MiTv 4 55". So, on every model has some different variance, all because of having different display panels and for other reasons. Some display panel will be from LG or Samsung and two other brand from Chinese manufacturer.
Mi TV is a better option for limited budget. You will get more features for less budget.
If someone could share the rom and recovery dump file from the Mi Pro android 8.1 series, it will be a great help for the other previous Mi Tv users in porting the rom. Or at least share what you find for MiTv like rooting, custom recovery or anything for others.
Btw i found a way to root MiTv but its a long process and it needs UART device. And also to block the adds by using adb without root.
Again, so many MiTv owner pass by looking for some development for our Tv but find nothing mainly because no one is interested in so little interacted thread and not able to start any developments (at least in my view). Start sharing your experience, may be starting with your best optimal display setting.

First you need a UART device and then open the tv back panel and you have to make a connection at the diagnostic port on the motherboard directly.
If you are ready for this steps, prepare for the next move and let me know.

I do have the 43" global with build in Chromecast. Works nice and pic is also very good. No way to install Netflix for android tv and I cannot cast Netflix from my phone to the tv.. Everything else is castable.
Honestly I do have 43 inch 4A model. But the only concern here is do we need custom rom for this TV? I mean we already have one of the best stock firmware. Also, there is a way to sideload app from usb and once you install aptoide store then you can directly download apps from it. I have good amount of apps installed for me but few of them need mouse like Netflix and Amazon prime. Some of them need google play services so they do get installed but when you try go ahead they ask for play services. Also, regarding the UART port, opening the back panel will surely void the warranty, are people willing to go ahead with that?
I'm fond of mods and custom roms but here it is bit complicated as a TV is not a personal device which is used by only one person like a smartphone. I heard we will get the oreo update soon does any1 knows when it's scheduled?

Dear Friend,
I'm not concerned about custom ROMS here. But I want to enhance possible supported features in product not given by Mi.
I have Mitv 4a, and it doesn't support bluetooth speaker, while there is bluetooth in hardware. So by rooting and patching some firmware to make it working is my concern.
Another thing is, As phoneix rom and older Remix os were having support to replicate touch with Keyboard and mouse. If one can mimic that feature in patch ui firmaware than our MiTV will be more amazing:fingers-crossed:
I used to do same with Octopus app but its annoying for many apps.
Most important feature for me is supporting external sd card as internal storage. Which would not be possible without rooting MiTV.
What do you and others say about these?
I understand that you want to make optimum use of the hardware and explore all the possibilities. I personally feel it's a step we must take provided we have the source code and stock firmware readily available. Also, I have bought a wireless mouse and keyboard combo from Flipkart and it works like a charm. Regarding external hard drive support as internal, I feel the current version of android on MI TV 4A doesn't supports it natively. We should wait for the Oreo update and then should work towards it. Though my wife will kill me for messing up with the TV, I'm all in brother. It's just if anything goes wrong we should be able to put our **** together again

All i need is google service to use voice search. I saw some methods but they did it for inbox and TV3 series. Havent for TV4 series. Just wait and wait ?. Talk to a developer who did for tv3s (root, install google services, voice search...) but he hasnt get TV4 device.
We donated to @k4y0z and @xyz` to create a TWRP images, exploit packages for bootloader hacking to unlock and rooting with Magisk. The exploit packages file is amonet-maverick.zip or kamakiri-maverick.zip (only works on patched Linux distributions).

I got one. LauncherHijacker works (use the renamed one), however it seems that Amazon's new battery system kills it after a while. I use FNG and set a swipe up to take me to nova launcher rather home. Widgets can be enabled without any work arounds. Google Play services can be sideloaded. Google Assistant can replace Alexa natively via developer settings.

I've had limited success with the renamed LauncherHijacker. My bluetooth keyboard stops working when it's enabled and it seems a little off when hitting the home button. Whenever I hit mine, it goes to the normal fire launcher, sits for a few seconds then launches nova. Maybe lag or if it's having to cold start the launcher?
Installed the latest google play packages. Also installed Youtube Vanced. Had to use not the newest release but the second newest release. Whenever installing MicroG w/ Youtube Vanced, whenever it tries to interact w/ the google accounts it crashed almost immediately. Installing the previous version I got everything working.

@k4y0z and @xyz` have gone off the grid recently. Did the guys burn out??? The last time I pm'ed @xyz` , he was not interested in donations, and neither he had it set up. Has anything changed?
I might get the new HD10 on sale for Black Friday, and keep it in storage until root (if ever). The new HD10 has decent specs overall (1080p screen and cpu) for $100 (BF price!!!), but low on RAM.
What else can you get for $100 these days? For example, Dragon Touch K10 Tablet (10") is currently at $85 (usually $100), stock Android 9, BUT !!! 720p screen Easy MTK root, and no issues making it stick with the Magisk hack by @diplomatic.
I guess, the new HD10 with all its pros and cons is either for Amazon loyalists, or committed renegades, like most of us here

I have moved on to the Onn product line distributed by Walmart. Still enjoy my older Amazon gizmos but probably won't be adding any Fire branded devices to portfolio anytime soon.

BTW the donation thing turned sour after folks hijacked the original intent for their own selfish interests.
So this thread is basically something implying that people will help without consent of the Developers mentioned. How about asking for help, if you ( @AmznUser444 Dev ) don't have anything to contribute please don't volunteer others to help without their consent. What are your credentials @AmznUser444 Dev ? Hi, everyone.
I'm considering getting this phone, for use with Lineage. Has anyone tried out Desktop mode on Lineage?
If so, can you share your experience, what works/doesn't work, and any quirks?
Thanks in advance!
I have a setup to use a desktop mode from my phone and I can confirm that Lineage OS has no desktop mode
the standard rom comes with the Ready For desktop mode which I have also tried for a bit but this functionality is lost when switching roms

Thank you for your answer.
Quick follow-up, if I may: how are you using the phone as a desktop? How big are the limitations?
Also, have you tried the "hidden" desktop mode tucked away in the developer options?
Again, thanks for your input.
Hi,
I have quickly given the "hidden" mode a shot, it is very difficult to use properly as there is no real window manager but it does work.
Biggest limitation is that taskswitching is very inconvenient.
I have a setup ready so if you have more detailed questions I can attempt to answer those

Just wondering how your experience went with LineageOS Desktop Mode on your Motorola. I have a OnePlus 7 Pro w/LineageOS 18.1 and the basic Android 11 Desktop Mode works pretty well. I just bought a Oneplus 9 Pro w/Lineage 19.1 and basic Android 12 Desktop Mode only shows the launcher and two navigation buttons, but none of them will do anything. It's completely useless.

I have only used the stock OS for now, haven't had enough time to mess with the phone that much, unfortunately.

Hi there.
The Samsung S-Series and OnePlus (starting with at least 5 and later, IIRC) have had HDMI out capabilities for a while. I remember having HDMI out on my Galaxy S4 (with a specific dock for it, but still).
The G100 (and G200, possibly also the Edge series) also have HDMI out, so yes, you should at least be able to mirror the display, even if Desktop Mode is not available.

I'm considering a G100, let me know if you get LineageOS 19.1 installed, and if desktop mode works.
Thanks.
My g100 runs 19.1 for a while now and i have to say that ready for is pretty much the only thing i miss from the stock rom. Especially since the android 12 stockrom update which improved the app alongside by a lot. I really hope someday someone gets ready for running on custom roms.
But you can still get a desktop mode with lineage right now. But all solutions are a bit hacky and not a complete package like ready for. Hdmi over usb-c still works without a problem. Ofcourse it will only be screen mirroring without further tinkering.
In the developer options you can force the experimental desktop mode which by itself is a bit lackluster but atleast you'll get a 16:9 image instead of 21:9.
There are apps like Taskbar Launcher (which can be found here: https://github.com/farmerbb/Taskbar) to improve it by a bit.
Another way can be Second Screen (found here: https://github.com/farmerbb/SecondScreen) which can be great for gaming on a big screen. With that app i limit the phone to 1080p on my 4k screen. It can improve performance by quite a bit for harder to run stuff. Also it forces 16:9 with simple screen mirroring. It can also be combined with Taskbar Launcher.
Theres probably also always the option to run a linux distro through termux or andronix and the like. But that can be quite a undertaking tbh and is a bit hacky imho. eg I dont think you'll get gpu acceleration with those options. I played around with this stuff on the stockrom for a while and i have to admit i'm not knowledgeable enough for these options for now. But i saw some pretty impressive stuff on the termux subreddit.
Yes, the brand-developed desktop modes are much better than the stock experimental desktop mode in Android. Hopefully it will progress.
I actually bought a Royole Flexpai 2 folding phone (Chinese company with no Google, running their own fantastic Water OS 2), and when connected to an external monitor it gives me a larger version of the tablet format screen. So it's as good a desktop mode as I need. The only problem is that Royole is in financial trouble and the OS is stuck on Android 10 for now.
