Hotspot connects but no internet on other device - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Anyone else experience this? I'm using Straight Talk/Verizon SIM. Trying to connect an S7 to setup as backup phone, cannot get any internet etc. Works fine when on home wifi. Do I need to root and edit my buildprop? Straight Talk allows tethering

I have/had this this issue with my joying Android car deck and my 6t, and now my 7pro.. So if I just turn on hotspot, and connect to the deck, it showed as connected, but isn't actually.. 6t was the same way, but on the deck, in wifi settings if I turn wifi off, and allow it to reconnect to the 7pro, it will then work.. that's the process for me every time.. but it only will connect if I let it try once, turn that wifi off on the device I'm trying to connect to, and then turn wifi back in. I leave the 7pro hotspot on the entire time.

G1 won't connect to wifi

So I just rooted my phone today at my friend's house, I used his wifi just fine, no hickups. I don't have a service plan at the moment, so the only way I'm even using it is over wifi. Well when I got home, I tried connecting to my wpa2 secured network and I can't connect. What happens is the phone recognizes my network, I put in the passkey and it just sits and does nothing. I connected to it before I rooted my phone (and then this started happening once I changed some settings, but I figured it'd be a moot issue once I rooted.)
So far I can't get it to connect.
Any ideas as to what's going on?

Fresh 1.1 and wireless tethering not working at all...?

So this is the first time I am trying to use the wireless tether and it's not working at all.
I changed the ssid so that it's something that I can remember and be unique... I turn on wifi and mobile network... is that right?
Go back into the wireless tether program and push the tether button. It then takes me to the SU request screen and does nothing...
Normally when something needs root it pops up to allow access but it does nothing.. . Just wondering what am I doing wrong and why is this then turning off my wifi when I go back to check the widget it shows that the wifi is turned off?
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
-Nigel
as far as it not working I wish I could help but I do know that it turns the WiFi "off" so that it can use the mobile network as your internet. It is using the WiFi radio to broadcast so that the comp can pick it up and connect.

tethering problem, wifi connection constantly going on and off

My work network went down earlier so i thought i would just tether the laptop to my S8 over wifi and use my 4g connection instead. But the laptop constantly connects then disconnects about 2 seconds later, over and over again (I can see it in the hotspot settings on the phone thta it appears as a connected device then vanishes immediately after). Tried turning hotspot on and off again on the phone, made no difference. Normal wifi use on my phone seems ok, its just this wifi hotspot that doesnt seem to work properly. Using exynos version on AQDD.
I'm having the same problem tethering my s8 to my android head unit. I connected to my tv box just fine, but I see the same cycle as you when I try to connect to my HU. I previously connected my S6 to the HU with no issues. The only thing I can think of is I used Smart Switch to copy everything from my S6 to S8 and it copied tethering settings as well and maybe that messed something up. I've changed the network name and password but that didn't help.
I finally got mine to work. I changed the security setting to open, and it connected. I then turned on only allowed devices and added the mac address of the head unit.

Portable hotspot disconnected, wifi turns on.

Hi! Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if they know of a fix;
While using my Pixel as a hotspot, it occasionally will automatically turn my wifi on and thus turning off the hotspot.
Not this is where it gets weird;
I got an app to force my wifi off. (This happens when I play Overwatch on PC by the way). While mid game, it will disconnect me, but the hotspot will still be on and wifi will be off like it should be. I get forced logged out and it locks my account due to "suspicious activity". Same thing will happen to my girlfriend while she plays with me as well on my hotspot.
Could this be because the phone will change the IP address (is that the right term I'm looking for?) While using the hotspot?
It's super frustrating and I don't have any apps that I know of that mess with my wifi settings.
I'm on 7.1.2 with a Verizon Google Pixel.
Thanks in advance if anyone reads all this and maybe knows the issue!

Android Auto using WiFi

I am using my Note 20 with my Android Auto WiFi. I am having a unique issue / warning upon connecting to my head unit. When I connect to my head unit I get the warning from my phone, "Internet may not be available......." and I have 2 options, either Keep Wi-Fi connection or Disconnect.
Obviously if I disconnect then I am no longer connected to my cars head unit.
If I click keep connection that is where it gets weird. Under Advanced WiFi I DO have switch to mobile data turned on, I also DO have Mobile data on and my head unit DOES show up under Network exceptions.........
All the above SOUNDS like it would be the right thing.... HOWEVER, when I do that, I have NO DATA at all and obviously it does NOT work.
IF when the warning comes up i just IGNORE it or hit the HOME button and it goes away. WiFi stays connected, DATA stays connected and EVERYTHING works RIGHT!!!! However.... I am tired of having to do that every time I connect. I am sure there is something that I am missing, so I figured that I would ask the smart people. Thanks in advance.
Do you have tethering on?
Nope, no tethering on
