Solution for the "Cannot connect to Camera" issue? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As my N5 was getting slower and slower, I did a factory reset but later decided to flash Resurrection Remix Pie as it seemed fast as well. That fact turned out to be true, however, after the custom ROM had been installed, the Camera wasn't working anymore (the App said "Cannot connect to Camera").
I experienced the issue with my previous N5 from time to time, after I installed a Custom ROM, the issue didn't go away anymore.
I know that in some cases, rebooting, a factory reset or checking the camera connection to the hardware helps... But the first two options didn't work out, and why should the camera connection be bad after flashing a Custom ROM. Also, I tried various camera apps but the problem remains.
Therefore, I'd like to know, if there is a software solution to this issue after almost 6 years.

Reading your post, I assume the camera NEVER worked after you flashed the ROM, right? Strange... I am on the same ROM, I have installed a GCamera 3.2 app apart from the camera app that comes with the ROM. I get occasional "can't connect to camera" errors on both, but usually a reboot fixes the issue. Try a Google Camera 3.2 apk and see if it works. If not, I guess it is a ROM issue, and maybe you should do a clean install again. Are you rooted? Because for some reason this ROM does not play well with Magisk, when they are installed together at once. I ran into some minor issues myself (see here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79599654&postcount=686).

Camera app is not working

Hello everybody
My Nexus 5 recently captured my attention as the camera is not workig anymore. I have the latest android version, not the L however, an it's unrooted. I only have retrica and instagram for taking picture as well, but they don't seem to work too due to this problem. I don't know where the problem can be originated from, but when I open the camera app it says Cannot connect to the camera. Has anyone of you exeperience it? How did you solve it?
I tried to delete the data from the app menu, stopped it, unistalled and reinstalled the updates but nothing has changed.
Thank you
Did you already try these suggestions? http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/connect-to-camera-error-upgrading-to-4-t2564457
Camera not working can be one of the frustrating things when you use a phone. As it involves hardware nothing much can be done. I use Cyanogen based phone which has not given me any problem. I would suggest to try it as it is heavily reliable.
did you try a reboot? seems so simple, but it can fix

Main camera not working

Hello
The camera on my nexus 5 stopped working three days ago. I used a CAF CM rom then.
First the Google Camera app crashed every time I tried to launch it and any other camera-related apps said "Can't connect to camera".
I wiped the chache through TWRP restarted the phone, the camera worked at first try, but at second try it crashed again.
Then today I reinstalled the stock 6.0.1 from the Google site with full wipe.
Now Google Camera app says "Can't connect to camera" and every other app automatically uses the front facing camera without having the option to change it.
May it be a hardware related error? Would replacing the camera module help?
P.S (the data in the signature below are really old)

Cannot connect to the camera

Hello everyone,
I've got a very annoying problem on my oneplus one (CM 12.1 RC). Every time I'm trying to launch the camera, a message tells me "cannot connect to the camera" ("impossible d'établir une connexion avec la caméra" in french).
I cannot actually use the camera, either back or front, in any of my apps using it, not even Messenger or Skype.
It used to work fine on my previous ROM, it also worked fine on this one first, it worked fine with the app ColorOS, until recently. The changes since this time are that I flashed HAL (CM_HAL_MOD.zip), and I installed lots of plugins for colorOS.
I have no idea if it comes from any of those changes. However I cleared the data and cache of HAL, of the plugins, of colorOS, of the stock camera, I uninstalled all of those, tried different versions, rebooted... Still the same error.
I would be very thankful if anyone could help !
David
I'm just seeing that the flashlight is not working anymore :/
Up ?
Okay, no one is probably ever going to see it but I still follow up: after having tried every other option, I finally solved the issue by upgrading to cyanogenmod 13.
I still have no idea what has been the cause... At least it is nothing hardware, as a thread has made me fear!
You just messed up your system. Thats why cm13 fixed it...

Extremely Slow Play Store Downloads

Hello,
Since about a couple of weeks ago, the Play Store started getting really slow. Updates get stuck at "download pending", and sometimes they do download. Other app downloads get stuck at 100% downloaded for a long time before installing. I can leave my phone on updating all night and in the morning it is still not done. This happens both on LTE and on Wi-Fi, and I do have very fast Wi-Fi. I am on the OxygenOS Open Beta 10. I did not do any changes to my phone when this started happening.
I have tried all of the following to fix the problem, but it doesn't help:
Rebooting the phone
Uninstalling Play Store updates
Deleting and adding Google Account
Clearing cache
I tried wiping the phone and using OxygenOS 9.0.2 - same problem.
I have clean-wiped the phone, deleting even internal storage, and flashed OxygenOS clean stock, and still it does this. (it also has new problems, like Magisk doesn't offer root authorization anymore even though it installed and working according to Magisk Manager...)
The only way I could get the Play Store to work properly was to use a custom ROM, HAVOC 2, but that ROM has problems with the front camera in some apps.
It almost seems like the Play Store detects OOS and decides to act funky. Has anyone faced this problem, or resolved it? Should I contact Google and see if the problem is their Play Store?
I almost feel like, since I have tried with clean wiping and using stock ROMs, and things that weren't broken before just started breaking for no reason, that there is a problem with the hardware itself. It makes no sense that the problems carry over into stock ROM when I have wiped everything several times.
Uninstall or disable the google app.
That fixed it for me.
Let me know if that works.

[EDIT] Phone completely buggy even after full reset (back to locked stock)

Hi everyone,
I noticed that yesterday and today face recognition was not working and was wondering why. I assumed the cam could be dirty so I opened the camera and switched to front cam, the app crashes immediately.
After several tries I restarted the phone and the result is the same...
Not sure if it's a software or hardware problem, can anyone help me debug?
Ok this is getting worse
I updated from Beta 18 to Beta 19 hoping it would fix the issue. After the update even the back cam wouldn't work...
So I assumed there was a software issue. I factory reset my phone and it still doesn't work...
Any ideas please/ I am desperate...

If it is getting worse with beta log an event with it send it to oneplus. And maybe try a older beta again or a different firmware all together. Would probably be your best bet. Just weird your having the issue and so far no one else has chimed in on it
So apparently I now have this issue:
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/camera-not-working.771655/#post-20390562
The storage is encrypted despite the factory reset . I will try to factory reset again once I get home (travelling right now)
Not sure how to fix this issue...
I tried wiping Cache, Data and System and doing a full reinstall but I still have the same bugs that seem to come from encrypted storage... Not sure how to solve this, should I wipe storage?
I did the "Format Data" in TWRP which is supposed to format everything and remove encryption and I still have the same bugs:
-Both cam not working
-SMS not working
-Amazon not working
-Youtube not working
etc
I completely erased the phone, used MSM tool to recover it and it still has the same bugs... What's crazy is that I know it's an access issue because one time everything started working again... Until I rebooted and it stopped
I used this (https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389) to keep the phone uncrypted and I am still seeing the same bugs, I have no idea what to do next...
Very same scenario with mine! Any solution? I also did what u did brother.
i can confirm the same behavior as of three days ago here. downgrading to android 9 (oxygen os still) fixes the rear camera but not the front. youtube starts to behave again. this is a HUGE issue, as my phone is 90% of the time just a youtube client. oneplus support is useless and just keeps going in circles saying to reset the phone. resets and cache clears do not fix this issue.
i've got three other oneplus 7 pros in the house that don't have this issue on beta 19, but they're all the t-mobile version flashed to international. unsure if that's relevant.
