question about rooting my OnePlus 7 Pro (before I do it) - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

I have the TMobile us gm1915 op7pro and my current firmware is 9.5.6 gm31cb
If I follow the root guides here on xda and I download OOS latest on their site is 9.5.4gm21aa and I use magisk on my phone to patch the boot.img and then root that way, will it erase my phone to where I have to start from scratch like a new phone?

To root you have to unlock the bootloader first. Unlocking the bootloader wipes everything.

So I can't follow this guide?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/guide-root-oneplus-7-pro-patched-boot-t3931205
It said to download the latest OOS and then just patch the boot.img then fastboot from it, it didn't say anything about the bootloader?

J700F Bootloader

I have many questions with this bootloader. I'm new to this things. Sorry. Btw I have the J700F J7(2015) model.
1. Is there any way to know if my phone is in locked bootloader or unlocked?
2. I'm planning to install the Pixel Experience rom and I've read that i must unlock the bootloader first. I know that I must be from stock rom. Then I will install the TWRP, then root, then proceed to flashing the rom. In this process, where will I unlock the bootloader? Do I need it to be unlocked before I install the TWRP?
3. I know that I can google it, but is there an easiest way to unlock the bootloader?
Sorry, I have many questions.

About Rooting Nokia 8

After Downgrading from Pie to Oreo. And officially unlocking bootloader via nokia website, And installing twrp and magisk, MY PHONE IS ROOTED.
But,
Can i flash latest Pie firmware now without losing root ? If yes how? And will bootloader get locked again by doing this?

You will lose root as far as I know, but you can easily reisntall it via twrp. The bootloader will not be relocked unless you manually do so yourself.

If i download a system update locally through the settings while the bootloader is

If i download update while the Bootloader is unlocked, will it remove twrp as i am trying to remove it and lock the bootloader

If you are rooted, the download will be the full package.
Install the OS.
Reboot
Install the OS again.
Reboot
Now you are clean and relocking the BL should be okay.
You must install in both the A/B slots to relic the BL.
Or just use the MSMDownload tool from here:

If you're on OOS 11 then you can use TWRP.
You cannot use TWRP on OOS 12.

I'm on android 11 but hardware version says 13
Is there any reason to use the boot.img over just twrp flashing magisk? Seems a little complicated to me and also there's no boot.ing for the kb2007
If TWRP wasn't available, then patching boot and then flashing is the only way to root.
What do you mean by "hardware version is 13"? Screenshot?
Yeah I'm on 11 nvm.
Do u know where I can find patched boot.img for the tmobile kb2007 model if twrp don't work?
And if it does I can just flash the magisk zip and be rooted

No ideas about finding a patched boot image.
In TWRP you can just flash the Magisk APK.

The T-Mobile to EU conversion lets you unlock bootloader without the unlock token from OnePlus website if you don't want to wait.

You can install the OTA update from here. Just follow the instructions Google provided at the top of the page and you should be all updated. It's only the full images that require the bootloader to be unlocked.
Just go look up factory images for Pixel phones. You can install firmware right from the web browser. You don't need to have root. Root is optional.
Do you mean without an unlocked bootloader? Root is not the same thing and does not determine how you can flash firmware.
If your bootloader is unlocked, you can use the Android Flash Tool. If your bootloader is not unlocked, downgrading is impossible.

This only works if OEM Unlocking is enabled in Developer Options.

@Albi Lukaj, Please be aware that unlocking your bootloader WILL WIPE YOUR DEVICE AND RETURN IT TO STOCK!!!
If that is not preferable, you might try applying the OTA like stated in Post #2, but I am not sure if it works downgrading a version (it probably doesn't)...
