Hey guys, I recently purchased an LG G3 AT&T Factory unlocked so other network carriers can be used. But when I click software update it already says I'm updated (CURRENTLY RUNNING LOLLIPOP 5.0.1) so I assume you need to have an AT&T sim card to update your software.
Is there like any way to bypass that so I can update my phone to android 6.0? If so how? and would I need to have it factory unlocked again?
I'm new to this, so detailed explanation would be deeply appreciated!
Cheers!

The AT&T model does not come factory unlocked. It's a carrier model and has to be manually unlocked. So if you bought it new it cannot be new as the seller would of had to open it to unlock it.
But no there is no other way to do OTA updates on it without an AT&T sim, go phone sim , or H2O prepaid sim.

Yes but the latest is KitKat so you would be downgrading. Since its the AT&T model it's tot method only. And the latest tot file is kitkat.

No it wouldn't work with that.
H2O sims can be gotten for under $1 on Amazon or eBay. And you don't have to add money to activate them.

So if I got a used AT&T G3, I could buy an H2O sim, activate it, get the OTA Marshmallow update, the remove that sim and put in my CC sim? Even if I had to buy the $10 Paygo plan, it would be worth it

Yes you can. As long as the used G3 was not rooted you can OTA update.

Will an unlocked D850 receive the update or does it still have to be locked to AT&T? A lot of D850s on eBay are unlocked.

The unlocked ones will get the updates just fine. But you still will need an active AT&T sim or H2O sim to get the update.

Hey were you able to install marshmallow on at&t D850 by ordering H2O sim?
Please do mention when you inserted that sim then you were in H2O network range or overseas? (as I am in New Zealand)
and how did you manage to install after inserting sim?
Thanks for helping pal.

Actually, you should get OTA updates on Consumer Cellular. They are my carrier and I have received several updates on my AT&T G3, including one just today. New software version is now D85030p.

Word of caution. Be familiar with how to revert to KK using the tot method. I say this because if the phone has been rooted, and all that was done was uninstall the root app and factory reset, the phone may not take an OTA update as it will read the system as modified. Plenty of discussion on this here in the forums. Also keep in mind that there is no permanent root method for MM as of yet.

I bought a 2015 Moto G instead of the LG G3. Decided to go with something not quite so large and with manufacturer (as opposed to carrier) support for MM. After looking at them "in the flesh" I decided the G3 was a larger phone than I wanted. Thanks for your help.

Not sure why your posting in this thread, CM 13 is not stock or official firmware. You first need to ROOT your device.

This has already been discussed many of times. And nothing has changed. You MUST use an AT&T or h2o SIM card to get the update. The D850 is tot only there's no kdz for AT&T models. And no you cannot flash wrong model firmware.

I'll chime in with the reminder that after updating to stock MM, you might never be able to rollback to an earlier firmware or root the device should you decide that you would like to do so.

No, if you don't want to root, you can have stock u firmware without root, but you're not going to have WiFi calling or volte without root, at least you had to have root before haven't checked on the new firmware.

Hi, when you say unlocked, you mean SIM unlocked?
As far as I know Verzon´s s7 edge comes factory sim unlocked or do I have to flash this firm to hav it sim unlocked?
Regards
I am late to join galaxy s7, just recently got one on eBay. UK Vodafone locked. I had it unlocked couple of days ago. Expecting it to receive nougat ota. But nothing has happened yet. When will I get that? I want to try out nougat then decide whether to root.
Removing the network lock won't have any affect on which firmware your phone has, only that you can now use it on any network & so as is you would be waiting for Vodafone to release a VOD version of Nougat.
AFAIK There is only a BTU/Samsung generic version of Nougat available in the UK on the S7 right now so if you wanted it sooner you could flash to BTU.

Does flashing to a different rom, albeit a factory one, void warranty, trip knox or stop OTA updates? I recently bought a Galaxy S7 with Vodafone Spain (ATL) firmware (i don't live in Spain btw, I bought it from a store) and I'd like to flash the unlocked UK rom (BTU), so I can get Nougat, but i don't want to void my warranty.

Indeed that's XEU (as the previous poster said)
XEU & BTU seem to both be the same but they have different CSCs which would explain why you're not getting the update as it's not out for XEU yet.

Flashing a stock ROM eg from SamMobile won't trip Knox. Only customs ROMs & rooting do that. OTA updates should work fine if the right flashing procedure is followed.

Thanks a lot, I was getting frustrated because I don't want my firmware to have anything to do with any carrier. Do you happen to know if there is a chance that Samsung's service can see that the BTU CSC is not the phone's original CSC and decline a warranty claim?

You could run into problems there if you needed to send the phone in for repair if the firmware is checked by the retailer or whoever they send their phones off for repair to. Personally would just flash it back to the original CSC before sending it off. Both CSCs would need to be on the same Android version though as from what I remember reading flashing an Android downgrade can brick your phone. I did read elsewhere someone managed to flash back to Marshmallow from Nougat as VoLTE wasn't working in Nougat as it turned out both were using the same boat loader but that's the only case like that I recall.
From experience Samsung's Smartswitch software doesn't look your phone up to establish which firmware it should have. It just goes on the current CSC if you were eg. to do an emergency firmware initialisation.

Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Hey there buddy,
Google's website for Factory and OTA includes images/releases from certain carriers. I live in Canada for example so version 7.1.0(I think?) has a release for my specific carrier, so whenever I factory reset, I use that one then relock my bootloader directly after. This leads me to receiving proper OTA everytime.
Other than finding your own carrier image, your best bet is using the standard build flash.
Always be careful with flashing and tinkering and best of luck! =]

I myself am with Tmobile as well and still on N2G47E, April's Build.
I didn't upgrade to May's build because I read there was an issue with TWRPRC1/RC2 or SU with the bootloader on May
I was wondering if this issue has been solved? Is there another zip I need to flash as well?
So far I have been sticking with Stock Rom, but I root with SU and use elemental X kernal with TWRP. thanks!
