Google Messages Doesn't Receive New Texts - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Anyone else seeing this? If it set Google Messages as my default text client, I end up having to switch back to the OnePlus client to receive all my texts. Oddly enough some seem to come through, especially if they're not from a short code.

i had 2 things cause this.
If you're using verizon make sure you have the CDMA-less feature provisioned on your line.
And I had to uninstall and reinstall the google messages app after some kinda thing I did broke it randomly.

I've got the CDMA-less feature. I'll try a reinstall and see if it helps.

Can't stop OZMAIL Text Messages

I'm having a problem. I'm constantly getting text messages from Ozmail everytime I get an email message from my Hotmail account. I did a hard reset and upgraded my ROM to the latest version and don't even have email setup on my phone yet. I was looking at other message boards by doing a search on Google and found other people have the same issue. It seems to be with both Verizon and AT&T. The solution I found was to disable your PDA and enable your old phone and go to Get It Now and remove the VZ Mobile Email application and then disable your old phone again and activate your PDA again. I called Verizon to do this and I still have the same problem. It didn't seem to work for me. I've been calling Verzion for months about this problem and they keep saying they will check into it and get back to me and I never hear back from anyone. It's really starting to drive me crazy. Sometimes it happens all day long and sometimes it won't happen for weeks. It's totally intermittant. Please let me know if anybody has a solution. Thanks!
Disable SMS notification in Hotmail settings
You are getting these text messages by enabling the option in your hotmail settings. in addition, you may be paying for them.
Well, I don't remember ever setting it to do that, but I disabled the feature. I'll see what happens. I don't understand why it's coming from Ozmail though. Ozmail is the software that Verizon installs on your Cell Phone via Get It Now, or the downloadable .cab file on the PDAs. You are saying Hotmail is using Ozmail? I'm confused. What do you mean I might be paying for them? Paying for what? I have unlimited text and picture messaging. You are saying the Hotmail is billing you for that service?

Visual Voicemail Text Message

I installed DC 2.0 vr02 (Android 2.1). My voicemail came to the device just fine. But I also get a text message. How the heck do I turn off that text message?
This didnt happen when I had the stock Sprint ROM.
Updated with confirmed workaround/solutions:
Two different issues with two different fixes:
1) Get a text message notifying I have a Voicemail
Cause: Handcent does not recognize new VVM Notification method of Android 2.1.
Solution: Uninstall Handcent and use the stock text app. Continue to use stock (or ChompSMS, whatever rock's your boat) until Handcent figures it out. (thanks to Tikerz)
2) Voicemail no longer downloads to the Voicemail app
Cause: This is likely because you called the phone number that showed up in the text and activated "Voice SMS Messaging". This causes your phone to be linked to that system instead of VVM app on your phone.
Solution: Two confirmed fixes, you can do either one:
a) Factory reset. Settings -> Privacy-> Factory Reset. It will reconfigure your VM, you'll have to do greeting and all that stuff again.
b) Clear Data under Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> Voicemail (Thanks funcrusher, post 33) <--- This method is probably less messy
FIXES (thanks to Tikerz and CEspallait)
1. Ruu for total fix
2. Uninstall Handcent and go through stock messaging to just stop receiving texts
(Any other tips would be appreciated)
Maybe a dumb question, but do you have Google voice still grabbing your Voicemail and it is sending you the SMS?

No the thing is that, I've never used GV for Visual voicemail. I verified my GV account and found no trace of texts going out to my phone. So it's not linked to GV for sure.
I remember some weird setup when I installed DC 2.0 r1. I saw some text messages giong out for registering something. Dont recall.

pipskicks I understand the blacklist part. But I didnt have to do this before with the stock ROM. Is maybe Handcent not equipped to handle visual voicemail notifications on 2.1? That's the only conclusion I can make. Because with the Stock Sprint 1.5 Rom, I didnt have to black list anyone and visual voicemail worked.
I am with you, I started having this same problem after installing this very same rom. Would love to know how to fix.
My understanding with VVM is when set up the default is to send you a text when you have voice mail.
If ur using sprint voicemail, then the issue is not with youmail.com
doesn't matter what message appU run, youmail was problee set up and you need to log in on their web site and delete/uncheck!
Thanks,
Bubba.
I had the same issue when I set mine up. you probably got a couple of SMS messages from android or some 4 digit number about the voicemails. In one of the messages, there will be a phone number (not yours or the one that left the message. Mine was 408 number). If you call that number, that will be a Sprint Voice Mail setup for SMS handsets. Press option 1 and it should turn off the SMS notifications about voicemails.

As of right now the only fix I've found is to actually use GV to get your vvm. Unless this option he posted works. Because I also don't want to blacklist every person in my contacts list that ever leaves me a vm. Because I think it will also blacklist them from sending regular MMS messages too.

That's the exact same thing for me. I never get notified by VVM nor does anything download in VVM. I just get the text message.
I had the same issue and just uninstalled HandSent and am using the stock message app. With the stock app I don't get the text with my VM. Hope this helps
The way I fixed mine was by doing the ruu. I reset the phone then setup visual voicemail. After that I rerooted and it worked fine.
The reason this happens is because you told sprint's voicemail service that you have a phone that doesn't support visual voicemail. This happens when you pressed 1, I tried calling again to see if there is a setting to change, but no luck. By resetting the phone you are telling the voicemail service that you "got" a new phone, so it allows you to setup the visual voicemail again.
Hope this helps...

it helps, but sounds like a pain to do, considering not all RUU's end up successfully.
Did visual voicemail work with 3rd party SMS programs on the stock Hero?
I went back to the stock SMS program because it ignores the SMS voice texts like it should and triggers the voicemail program to download and notify me. It works fine as long you're using the stock Messaging app.

I get texts into the stock program as well.
I think this does not have to do with any of your sms programs, but rather has to do with the workarounds done with the Eris ports.
Ruu might be the only way, I'm also hesitant to do that...
Anyone call sprint about this?

I'm not too savvy. But when you say reflash RUU, are you talking about reflashing the original Sprint Rom or can I just reflash DC2.0?
I restored my nandroid backup of 1.5(Sprint ROM rooted). But, I still just get the text message from the damn sms voicemail system. Somehow my phone is registered to this service. Dont know how to unassociate it from it.
Would rooting cause this problem?
Any other suggestions?

[Q] [NS4G] Getting weird texts from Sprint via 9016

I have received two very unusual texts that don't seem to make much sense to me.

Not entirely sure what this one is referring to. I don't use Sprint Voice mail because I use Google Voice. So my voice mail messages should be on that instead. I've never even bothered to set up the Sprint voice mail as I never have any intention of using it.
//ANDROIDrovisioning successful CFGv320c.0=07c5/tHGbo5//CM

Not entirely sure what this one means. Googling it showed that it meant a text was successfully sent and for some reason my phone didn't filter out the message. I didn't send a text when I received this one though.
Both of these were sent from the phone number 9016. Looking it up this seems to be a Sprint number of some sort. I asked some other Sprint Android users if they got anything similar, and they had not. So is anyone else with a Nexus S 4G getting weird texts like this?
Sounds like sprint spam. That's weird that your phone is displaying code. I'd just ignore it.
I just received this today also. Messages exactly same as the OP and on the same phone and carrier ...
Not sure what it is all about either .. any detailed answers?
the message is how sprint handles visual voice mail. did you happen to have a phone before that had visual voice mail and never reset your voice mail settings when you got your nexus?
Joeykrim, big fan.
Try going to messaging app and do the following: send a text to 9999 and as the message type: Block 9016. You will get a text confirming blockage of that #

Had an Evo for 29 days, but I'm brand new to Sprint beyond that. I never set up any voicemail beyond Google Voice though.
Haven't had another instance of these texts yet though, so I'm just assuming a glitch on Sprint's side.

multiple 9016 text messages.
I think i have found a fix for this annoying problem.
Ive found that it happens when u install some other text message app to handle your text messages instead of the stock messaging system.
I believe the 9016 messages are suppose to be hidden or silent messages and not actually get displayed, but when you set another program to handle all the messages, it doesnt know its not suppose to display it.
*So the FIX that i found that works is to,
tell the new text message program to Not Disable other message notifications. Meaning, remove the check mark associated with that option.

[Q] NS4G not sending SMS?

Have any of you heard of this?
Yesterday my phone decides it's NOT going to send SMS through the stock messaging app. I don't get an error, it appears as though it sends, but my recipient never receives it.....most of the time. Sometimes they go thru, sometimes they don't. It seems to mostly NOT go thru.
If the SMS does NOT go through, I can never see it in Google Voice.
If I use the Google Voice SMS app on my phone, recipient receives 100% of their SMS, same with Web interface.
If I disable my Google Voice account via the web and sign out via my phone, my recipient receives 100% of their SMS using the stock app.
I have all the settings nailed. Google Voice is set to sync, background data enabled, etc.... It was, has been working flawlessly up until yesterday with nothing on the phone changing.
I have wiped, reflashed, tried different ROMs, etc....
Today I called Sprint, they re-provisioned things, then basically said since it's a third party app they can't help. I want to beat my head against a wall here.
Anyone have any idea of what the problem could be?
I can't offer any help but I can tell you I saw the exact same problem all day on the 16th and 17th. I've since switched the Google Voice app to use it's own notifications and turned off the text notifications. For the time being, I'm not even using the stock messaging app.
I remember Sprint having an SMS problem a few months ago one afternoon, but it wasn't specific to GV. Maybe something in their GV integration system is a little wacky right now. People said they got about half of the messages I was sending before I switched to the GV app full time.
Good to know I'm not the only one. Looks like a couple of other people have the same problem over in the Google help forums. I de-integrated my account for almost two days, I'm getting ready to re-integrate it now, we shall see what happens. The support for these phones is god awful. If this doesn't resolve it I'm driving to the nearest corporate store and returning it through their window.
LOL! I'm hoping it doesn't come to that, but if you do decide to "return" it, you may want to attach a brick or something. This phone feels way to light to do any damage without a little extra help.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
Here's a little update. Not really a good one, but whatever...
All of the text messages I had tried to send though the stock messaging app must have made it to Sprint at least because they all just dumped en mass upon their intended recipients. I got a pile of very confused responses.
Maybe the issue has been resolved. I'll switch my settings back and experiment a little.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
That didn't happen to me, but it does appear that my texts are going through. There's one person who says she never gets some, but I can see they're sycning to GV now, where they weren't before. Everyone else is getting my texts too. I have no idea what happened but I'm a little at ease knowing someone else had the problem. I hope it never happens again, I rely on SMS for my business.

SMS App and/or Settings that work with Sprint Visual Voicemail

I am now running CM12.1 on my Photon Q. I successfully installed and provisioned Sprint-VVM-M.apk (version T.7.0.0.16)
When I get a Voicmail, an SMS message shows up in my messaging app from (650)603-0000. Here is an example of one I dialed in from google voice on my laptop:
[email protected] has sent you a Sprint Voice Message. To listen call 650-603-0000 or click http://smsvoice.sprint.com/iv.do?d5ee6b9fbb3

Calling 6506030000 results in a busy signal. Clicking on the link, opens Firefox at the mentioned URL. There is a box with a play icon. When I click it, the page refreshes, but I hear nothing in my phone. There is a SmithMicro Software logo and copyright message at the bottom of the screen.
The message does not show up in the VVM inbox. I found this thread on the Sprint community forums regarding this issue.

... you are using a third party text messaging program which is intercepting the notification to the Voicemail app before it can hide it ...
If you are using a third party text messaging app (GoSMS, ChompSMS, etc), depending on the application many of them will have an option that needs to be adjusted to correct this. If you are using one, let me know and I can see if I can locate that setting for you. Alternatively, if you do search on here or Google, you can likely find someone with the same app and same issue and how they fixed it.

Evidently these messages are supposed to be handed off from the SMS app to the Visual Voicemail app. The original poster was using GoSMS. They could not figure out how to change the settings mentioned above; so, he opted to switch to Google Voice.
I had been using SMS + MMS Messages from SMS & Messages Studios from the play store. I uninstalled it and am now using the default messaging app in CM 12.1.
Does anyone have a clue what settings JPSquared might have been referring to?
Will the default SMS in CM 12.1 let me change that?
If not is anyone using an sms app that successfully hands off messages from 650-603-0000 to the VVM app? Could you tell me the SMS app and version and the VVM app version you are using that work together?
Postscript notes & thoughts:
In the default SMS app, I can set a specific ringtone for the 6506030000 conversation
... but, if I delete the conversation rather than individual notifications in it, it reverts to default for the next message
In my SMS, I also see messages from 9016. These appear to be meant to turn on / off the message waiting indicator. I assume these should also be passed to the VVM app. VVM should set my light to blue if this works, but are no such luck.
When I have a voicemail waiting, I get a message to 9016 with "MWI Notif turnOn" in it. When the voicemail box is empty, I get one to 9016 that says "MWI Notif turnOff".

I could live without the Visual Voicemail app downloading my voicemail at all, if I could find a way to get my messaging app to set my phone's LED to a specific color based on those messages to 9016!
Anyone know of one that can?
Could it be MIUI whatever that is??
possible clue from this thread

Yes actually I figured it out. The epic, and I'm told sprint, do not support MIUI which was enabled by handcent when I flipped a setting. Unfortunately turning it back off and uninstalling handcent did nothing.
What you have to do is download the sprint voicemail apk and overwrite the existing app. This fixes it.

gosms may work
thread
It turns out GoSMS was the culprit that was breaking my Visual Voicemail and causing me to receive the 9016 voicemail texts.
Apparently if you go into settings for GOSMS>>then Advanced>>the Receive Settings, there is an option for "Disable other Message notification".
With that option checked, it will actually disable all other SMS services and that will mess up the visual voicemail because I guess that receives a form of text message that tells it you have a voicemail and to go and get it.
Once I unchecked this option, and rebooted my phone, I began to get all my missing voicemails. So for anyone else who is having this issue, I hope this clarifies.

system permissions?
I have a theory of why this is happening
sms messages are stored in system partition -- need higher privileges to read
vvm gets installed to data partition
Probably Have to Change Phone Company
I could write a program in Python to turn the light on when a text message is received, but C, Java, etc. are out of my league.
To replace voice mail with Google Voice, your carrier must support Conditional Call Forwarding. Red Pocket -- my current carrier does not. Yesterday, I contacted many of the Sprint mvno's listed here before I found one that supports that feature.
I am looking at changing to Pix Mobile, because they do support it. Very frustrating to have to change carriers when there is such a simple work-around to make the Message Waiting Indicator light tell you that you have a voicemail.
