Feature Request: Delete XDA account via web interface! - General Topics

There are extensive possibilities to edit an XDA account. Your can specify and fiddle with almost everything. But:
The essential option 'delete account' is missing!
This should have been implemented directly after the 'register account' functionality. Actually even before that!
Please fix this! (In fact, this is not a 'feature request' but a bug report.)
Regards.

This may not be something that is clearly pointed out for many but, it's available.
If you go to the following link...
https://www.xda-developers.com/contact/
... You'll see various options available to you like the "Change username or cancel an account."
If that preferred method doesn't work out for you, you can also contact an administrator like @MikeChannon via PM or email and he'll be more than happy to help you out with account management/support.
Good Luck!

Unless asked to do so, PLEASE don't PM me regarding support. Sent using The ClaRetoX Forum App on my Apple Macintosh.

Sorry, it's NOT available. What you tell me to do, is to fill out the contact form. That's not what is widely considered as a web interface.
Or would you say, the 'register new user' functionality was complete by saying: "Well, just send an email to the administrator and beg for an account."
I suppose not. I'm disappointed by that answer.

Yeah, that's better than nothing. But:
I can edit my user profile and settings just like that, while I am logged in. I don't have to type in my user name and email again and again. How does that work? Well: because I am logged in already!
But the said deletion process totally ignores that I am logged in. I have to enter my details again and then have a verification... yaaawn.
Why do sites like XDA put up so many artificial obstacles for people to get away.
The easier a process is, the more likely people will follow it. So, if the process was just one or two clicks away, your could boost the number of canceled accounts. Wouldn't that be something?

Well small sites and sites that moderate content before it shows in open forums may allow user controlled account deletion. However, many larger sites and sites that permit user content to show instantly, generally do not allow users/members to delete their own accounts. Why? well because it opens the door to assive amounts of abuse. A user could post all kinds of bad stuff and then delete the account thus making the culprit uncatchable, unstoppable. You see an account deletion that is compliant with GDPR meansno trace is left of the account. That means remaining posts cannot be tracked and cannot even be found since the user database no longer recognises the account. So we would have no idea where the user had posted or how many times... important if it is abusive or spam content.
In addition user controlled account deletion would render anning users effectively useless because the user wouldb still need access to the sites account deletion system even if banned. It would allow them to delete their account and simply create another one immediately.
We have multiple thousands of users online at a time, 60000 posts per day and because we cannot monitor all that in real time we have to have some control over what the "bad" users are doing. Changing user names and creating / deleting accounts every other day are things we would be 100% guaranteed to suffer from if we handed over direct control. We have massive numbers of users and inevitably we are constantly challenged by hackers, DDOS attackers, spammers and other abusers and the ability to create and delete accounts with ease is not a good idea for us or the "good" users who would suffer the ill effects if we changed things.
Mike

Thanks for the clarification.

Suggestion: Dangerous programs sticky thread.

This is a suggestion / request to the mods as well as an invitation to all site members to contribute any info they have on this.
At the moment there are no real viruses for windows mobile devices, only a few proofs of concept.
But I have encountered a few examples of supposedly normal commercial software that I really wouldn't want installed on my phone.
Example 1:
A while back a small company (who's name I no longer remember) sent a letter to all its customers threatening that the anti-piracy protection on their software will damage your bootloader if a cracked version of one of their apps is discovered on your phone.
Example 2:
It was reported a while back that Agile Messenger sent user names and passwords for all messenger services unencrypted through the net potentially giving anyone access to your accounts.
Example 3:
While reading the EULA for Opera Mini I discovered it sends users phone number and all their browsing data (cookies, history, cache) to the Opera ASA server basically spying on your internet activities.
Unfortunately all the threads dealing with these otherwise nice and useful apps have now moved deep in to site history so any new users or just someone who haven't been on the site for a while is likely to miss them.
My proposal is this:
Create a sticky locked thread, I think the general section would be most appropriate, so anyone visiting the site would be able to see the list of programs he might want to avoid.
Why lock the thread?
As I understand it moderators can still edit locked threads any time they want so there are two reasons to keep it locked from the general public:
1) To keep the list clear and easily readable.
I am sure many people will want to comment on the software even if it is just to say "how dare they do this?", but any comments / questions would be better off in separate threads.
2) To be fair to the software creators.
I think that anyone making a claim against a software should provide some minimum proof. Like the email quoted in example one, comm log dump or screen shots. At the very list confirmation from other users.
This site has a lot of impact on the mobile community and it would be a shame if a wrongfully accused software would suffer due to being publicized as damaging here.

New standard of xda-file uploading/downloading ~ READ

THIS WOULD BE A FREE SERVICE, OFFERED TO ALL XDA-MEMBERS
alright, while sitting in the xda IRC somebody complained about everyone using rapidsahre links, them dying, and the need for a new XDA posting service.
this coupled with the completely empty XDA ftp, we got to talking. Chainfire suggested using usenet for the roms/files/whatever. he said he attempted to get it more widely used years ago, but nobody really cared.
now, my thought is i setup a webUI frontend for the xda usenet group, and make it alot like the current xda-ftp stucture is. simple uploading, simple downloading. no real knowedlge of usenet needed to do it, and the files would be good for at least a year on the servers.
maybe even write a FTP frontend for the group.
what are your guy's thoughts on this. no download limits, no YOU HAVE TO WAIT 9HOURS TO DOWNLOAD ANOTHER ROM, no YOURE ALREADY DOWNLOADING A FILE LOLWAIT, no random deletions of files, uncensored content uploading(you can figure what that means), and super-fast downloading of ROMs, with a que.
we need your thoughts on this project.
edit:
usenet is a pay service, however the concept of this is to provide a free frontend for the usenet posts to the xda community. IT WILL BE FREE.
IT WILL BE FREE
I'm pdbogen, and I approve of this message.
/me is in favor and would love to help make this happen somehow.
posting in an epic thread
i believe this is a genius plan. I SHALL HELP MAKE IT HAPPEN!
I'm all for faster file transfers and less "LOL YOU BETTER WAIT BECAUSE YOU'RE A NOOB" messages.
Who would be supplying the servers? And how much would it cost to set up?
between me and turbzy, we have enough resources/servers to handle a good 3 mirrors of the setup, so we're good on the money/servers.
we just have to write the webinterface and get people to use it.
if you and the freenode crew whip up something good and badass, i will aggressively promote it on my heavily-trafficked websites
(bumping thread)
very nice idea indeed, just what xda was missing =]
This sounds awesome, I say go for it!
me and turbzy will start work on this as soon as we get a few uploaders/chefs willing to use the new system in place of rapidshare.
it's toomuch work to just write and then have wasted because nobody uses it.
the idea is, we're going to maybe write a built in FTP server. so as far as uploading is concerned to upload a file you'll
a) go to the site, and be presented with a upload form. just select the zip/rar and press upload. it'll upload to the multiple backend servers, and give you a direct link. OR possible upload it to a few other options, im thinking maybe add a rapidshare+mediafire+multiple FTP mirrors.
or b) connect to our custom FTP server and upload the file that way. after the file is completed, it will upload it to the other servers and give you the direct url. i'll make a more simplistic description later.
all in all, everyone i've talked ot about the idea thinks its genius. help us get people on board=
oh also, i'm thinking there may be a registration system needed for uploading. it's unfortunate we couldnt just sync it with the XDA login system, but it'll be needed to post verified files. it'd be better for file organization and whatnot.
then again, we may be able to sync with the XDA userdatabase if it gets big enough.

I doubt Flar and company would let you touch the user database. However, maybe they could host the front-end on their servers? For example: fileshare.xda-developers.com
That would then interact with all your middleman servers, etc etc.
So the XDA server would just be the front-end, but it would redirect the file to your servers... is this possible?
Or even better, have XDA auth the user (via login to the forums) and then have it redirect to your server with some fun authing stuff. Then you guys don't need the database, but it would still be secure.
yaaaap. that was my idea, just attempt login. much simpler and lord knows precious xda administration wouldnt dare have their hands on a project meant to..actually maintain the files produced by the community!
they won't help us. even if they offered, i think running them seperate from this site is better and safer.
bump because i actually care about the project.
just a thought and i didnt see it covered
how will the virus scanning be implemnted. will you put a system in place at you end so its get scanned after uploadthen accepted or will you be asking the uploaders to scan them.
just a note because im pretty sure the current FTP scans files and lets you know whether the threaten. but if you leave it multiple uploaders then maybe well get ton of viruses littering the database
i am unsure as to how to handle that. thats why im thinking a user database would be useful, somehow mark the legit uploads with a key of some sort. i'll think about that, but im sure we can handle that.
from what ive seen clamav is pretty easy to tack on to whatever system youre using
edit: as for user database integration, all we'd need xda to do is toss a small api on their server that lets us verify accounts and return a userid that we can associate posts with. we wouldn't need actual access to the database
all im saying is yes you can verify the user who uploads the stuff
but we can verify the stuff
there was a problem a while back with ppl adding cracked apps to the ftp and viruses aswell
i don't think we care about cracked apps. thats somewhat the point.

well I think you should. This isn't a warez site, nor should it be affiliated to anything to do with it.
It sounds more to me like you're trying to set up a new warez service based on the good name of xda-devs!

Tips about a good customer support

No matter if the app is free or paid, as a developer you want to offer a good support to the end users. Why? Because as long as they are happy they will continue to use your app and they will recommend it to others. So it is in your best interest to do your best and resolve issues that customers are reporting, implement requested features and solve as many bugs as possible.
To that end, you must ensure you provide easy to access means of communication between you as a developer and the end users. There are many ways you can achieve that and I will list a few I am using and the more you can provide the better so we can put together a list:
Create an email address or use one you already have (I prefer the former) and provide links on Google Play and inside the app. It is nice if you add an accessible menu item that says (Suggestions/Bug report/Support/Etc) that will start an intent chooser for sending emails to this email address
Use forums (XDA ) and post your app and frequently visit and answer suggestions/questions. There are a lot of helpful users there that will test the app and discover bugs, suggest new features and it is very good if you can keep the thread hot so you keep the interest up. Users like feedback and makes them feel important (which they are) so try to answer as many posts as possible even though you don't have a solution to the problem yet
Get social! Social networking is very helpful these days both for spreading the word about your app but also for customer support. Create profiles for the app on all major social networks (Facebook, Google +, Twitter, etc) and try to get as many users as possible. Post as many updates as possible and keep the users informed about changes to the app, answer to their comments and implement suggestions
Prioritization - build yourself a TODO list with priorities: for each update try to solve major bugs first that are heavily reported or that are causing big problems. Always find some room for improvements and user suggestions. Then fix small bugs and try to improve UI.
Localization is an important part of today's apps. Try to support as many languages as possible making easy for the users to understand the app and to better communicate their findings
Use the publish console to check for crash reports. Many users use this feature and send crash reports along with the stack trace and it is very helpful to keep track of major crashes and identify the root cause
Please reply with more tips so we can create a big list for everyone
Email is the number 1 way people ( from my experience ) contact the developer to ask questions, recommendations, etc. What I did in addition to all the things in the op was create a cheap 5 page website with Godaddy website tonight its like $100 bucks a year or something. They also auto optimize your site for mobile viewing!Then made a contact us page, were users can choose a reason for contacting us. This works really well and you can set up an auto responder to send them a message letting them know you got the email.
I always try to answer emails immediately (during business hours) but always within 24 hours. Having a great customer service program even if your a solo dev like I am will translate into 5 star ratings based solely on customer service!
Have a lax customer service program and you will see the negative 1 or 2 star ratings pop up again based solely on customer service. It shouldn't take anyone more than say 48 hours to re connect with someone and at least start the process of answering their concern.
You can see the contact us page here
Good policy will turn into good reviews and good downloads!
:good:
I've put a feedback page in all my apps.
You don't even need to create a new email address. Just use your personal email address and create an alias. That way it looks formal on the outside but messages go to same inbox as your personal one, only have to check one inbox everyday.
HMMMMMM!
FIRST OF ALLL EMAIL AND AFTER THAT XDA POSTS.........:victory:
email or the message box is very important. But it's also important to reply to their questions promptly.
Free Customer Service SDK
Replying promptly to customers is essentially the first step towards good customer service. If you are an iOS app developer, looking to impress your customers with excellent customer support, try out Freshdesk's Mobihelp SDK ( [freshdesk.com/mobihelp) you can snap-in to your app and start communicating with your customers from right within your app. I'm sure it will be of great help in your customer service efforts!
Thanks for the tips! Just a question: I have got one Crash report in google play console very early, but since then nothing. I have put email in the game and on the play store. But nobody used it. I do not have many installs, but I wonder what is the usual percentage of people who actually report bugs?

In my experience, if the app is something people desperately need (e.g. utility) or want (e.g. game) but it isn't working quite as they expected, they will be vocal. Not hearing anything from users is usually a warning sign that nobody was too excited about the app in the first place, or that not that many people downloaded the app in the first place.
If I see a crash on Google Play I assume that the same crash occured for 10 others who didn't bother reporting it. So I try to fix it ASAP.
You could use Google Analytics to report crashes without user prompt.
Regardless of the above, it sounds like you have a general marketing challange which is much more critical than that crash report, so you should investigate marketing and promotions in general.

Hi,
how can we deal with bad reviews on google play, reviews that comes from pepole that didn't understand the meaning of the app?
Thanks.
If you're looking for app support best practices, contact a big startup like Buffer or Squarespace and see how they respond to your question. Notice the friendly tone of voice, the detailed answers they try to give you, and the call for action at the end of every support ticket - whether it's to try and recreate the event that caused the bug or read a FAQ section. Do that a dozen times and you'll learn more about 'proper' support than any how-to article can teach you.

Yep makes sense in my experience - personalise as much as possible and reflect the tone of voice of your app. Users will really appreciate it. Stay social.
Why not have some kind of in-app help?
Having a suggestions/feedback menu item seems to be the common thread here to provide good customer support.
But wondering - why not some kind of in app help itself? Sort of a Whatsapp inside the app? I feel email being a separate channel breaks the context - help within the app itself and in context would be so much easier for the end user.
Thoughts?
I know it is an old thread but there are SDKs that help you integrate a support chat right within the app. I have seen zomato use one of these.
Thank you for a list!

[APP] Pikik 7.9 (Modified Kik Messenger with AntiLag)

Hello XDA,
I'm releasing a modified version of Kik to the public. This is version 7.9 - without video playback support. I created this in January after discovering an exploit within Kik Messenger that allowed me to crash other users. This gave birth to what are known as "lag codes", which are long strings that cause instability within Kik.
If you're on kik and people post strings like:
0la.3p.snai7.eo.490.0la.3p.snai7.eo.490.0la.3p.snai7.eo.490.0la.3p.snai7.eo.490.(etc)(shout out to TL1 for his work in this area)
you will lag, ios and android are affected by this.
I have modified the parser within Kik to stop those short lag codes from causing lag.
I issued these Pikik clients to only a handful of individuals (hardcoded their usernames and disabled editing) , typically being used to crash pedophile chatrooms. Someone in this handful decided to leak the file. They attached AndroRat and distributed it under my credibility and name and I don't appreciate that.
The exploit (along with other exploits I've discovered) and suggested fixes have been emailed to Kik without reply.
This is version 7.9 without video support. You can do the same with 8.0+ as I have done but I don't want to distribute that yet. as I'd like to make a menu via smali to add additional features to Kik. (Confirmed fake camera is possible among other things) Hopefully within that time, Kik will patch the exploits I've emailed them about.
Please be respectful to one another with Pikik, it can cause issues for other users without Pikik if you so choose.
I will create additional links if necessary. Happy Easter.
May 6 update:
Added Kik 8.0apk for video playback. Added another layer of lag protection.
-gunther210
Admin note: APK has been removed due to legal complaint from Kik. Do not re-upload. https://github.com/xda/Notices/blob/master/2015/Kik-20150624.md
Warning, I would not recommend trusting. The app was leaked. Gunther stated that he would release the application to the public in the month of July.

Hey mate, that wasn't the case.
I planned to publish the technical details of the xss exploit within kik.com in July but that also leaked.
I encourage anyone to decompile this apk and look for anything malicious or suspicious if they don't trust it. It isn't my style to do that.
I understand you're just looking out for the community.
Take care mate.
Apologies and Results
Yah sorry to come out as aggressive or as if I was pointing fingers. If you are truly gunther, then you are very much aware of the presence of individuals on kik who post links which intercept IP's and I see a new exploit regarding a phishing link "video" with your name on it etc. I just want individuals to be careful. Because I made seemingly false accusations, I have done the task of running a scan on the app in a virtual machine (genymotion) running a various security scans on it. Only avast gave a security warning, but upon rescan it was gone. I have uploaded four images of four different tests. Please, proceed with caution for this application is as wonderful as you anticipate it to be. To those that have root and xposed, i would advise using I believe xprivacy to block any SMS or call log interaction which this app may present if the proof supplied below does not suffice your paranoia which I seem to be having right now.

Thx for the tests.
I'm aware of the games being played on Kik. That's not likely to go away but their lack of willingness to correct the problems leaves everyone vulnerable. At least this protects a regular user from another regular user being annoying. The xss exploit needs to be patched immediately. The amount of people getting phished is amazing. I regret sharing info about that exploit.
As I mentioned long ago to anyone on Kik who asks the status quo kik hacker question "can you get ips thru kik?" My response has always been the image handler. The way kik handles their images has been exploitable forever but I'm not yet certain to what degree. After reporting the 2 "main" exploits to Kik, I moved onto checking out my suspicions and getting some confirmation/vindication.
The entire handler for images is a wreck. It's possible to create corrupt image headers (see my pastebin) which will crash Android upon receiving said picture. It's possible to create corrupt image headers to get IP addresses via images (confirmed on iOS by Host 4/6/2015). It's possible to create corrupt image headers to crash Android for lack of associated action.
It's possible to send videos as Gallery, Gallery as Camera, Camera as "Gunther", custom icons, and most likely offsite pngs (apache log taps). It is possible to build a card that exploits these same flaws but with more parameters. The card:// handler is probably only "more secure" because less people use it.
The fact that I can send you a picture that crashes your kik is absurd and it was obvious to me this style of attack would be possible from the first glance at it.
I like Kik but it is a dangerous hangout lately.

You're fine mate.
Me Host and Link have been working together on adding several features for pikik2 and their similar releases.
For now pikik2 will be:
Based on 8.1.x
Probable:
Turn off read receipts (Host)
Turn off typing notification (Host)
AntiLagV2 (Gunther)
Fake-Camera Mod (Gunther)
AntiLagv2 secondary check (Link)
(Theme choices by download if below doesn't work)
Possible:
Turning links on/off
AntiLagv2 override by conditional regex by input
Selectable Theme by input
Selectable Image background (Link/Host)*
*This works now but needs some more tweaking.
If you or someone you know is a smali pro, please PM me.
We are hoping to build these ideas as switches from a panel within kik
Also. If you're interested in building an Xposed Module to do these things, please PM me and I will help point to where the above things are taking place.
All credits will be given
If someone wants to reach us on kik. Check in #pikik

Sorry. I'll look out for anyone with experience. I'm in a few good groups so I'll ask around.

I'll ask some people about it.
First, let me/us say thanks for all the support. It helps keep us motivated to get pikik2 how we want it.
Updates:
We have pretty much narrowed down all the future feature locations.
We are still stuck in the same spot however.
We need a little advice or guidance on how to use toggles and inputs.
We can build the toggles, we can associate them in the places they need to be. But, we aren't sure how to do the following:
We need a generic or simple way to write and read toggle values into the database or preferences. We need to be able to pull these into smali. We are getting progress on Smali knowledge and may be able to import the values ourselves but we need to have a better understanding of how to implement this.
We want to create a check box, no problem. How do we add the value of check box (or inputs) into the db or prefs in the simplest way?
Next, how do we then read the value out of these?
We are reading to use <checkboxprefs but that's not working easy for us so far. We have tried literally hundreds of tests at this point.
My last test was duplicating the widget check box and associating it.
We need help. Someone. Give us a run down of the fastest way to what we need, please. As always, credits will be given.
Thanks mates,
gunther210
I will make a thread asking for more direct help when I have enough posts to do so. Anyone out there who has any advice, we will investigate.
Thanks again.

How to find the correct intent or activity name?

Hello community!
I use Shortcut Maker to create direct shortcuts for many of the activities, including some hidden ones. But all of these are already available under the Activities section or Intents section within the app.
Is it possible to create a shortcut for an activity not available in those sections?
For example, I want to create a shortcut to the 'Background Usage Limits section of the Device Care app on my Samsung phone. There is already an activity that takes me to this page:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
But I want to create a shortcut that takes me directly into the 'Background usage limits' section:
The app allows for editing intents:
But I don't know what to add/ edit here that will achieve the desired objective.
Can someone tell me how to find the activity/ intent name for the page I'm trying to launch directly using the shortcut?
Thanks.

You might be able to create a shortcut and use Tasker+shortcut to set up an automated action to open to the activity you want when you open the shortcut by creating the shortcut, then using Tasker to setup an automated process containing the sequence of actions it takes to open the app to the activity/page that you want then set the shortcut to run that automated process to open to the desired activity/page.
Or
The background usage limit activity/page is more than likely located in your system settings and the Device Care app just "links" you to it. Can you access that page by going through system settings somewhere instead of going through the Samsung Device Care app?

The Device Care app is deeply integrated with the System, and it is what handles this activity, i.e. there is no other way to access this page from System Settings.
Using Tasker for the method you described appears to be a setup that allows 'Accessibility' permissions to Tasker, plus it makes the whole setup unnecessarily complicated. Besides, I avoid using automation apps because they need to run continuously in the background, consuming RAM and battery.
Is there no way to find the exact 'intent' or 'activity' name for this process?

You can try the Disable Service app, it should list all your apps and the individual internal services/activities within each app. That should help you identify the activity that you want.

Can you provide a link for that app?
Have you tried Shortcut Maker app? This too lists all activities per app and intents available. Does the app you suggest do anything more?

Why? It's in the Playstore, a Playstore search for :
Disable service
Will find it, it should be at the top of the list of results. I'm sure you can handle that by yourself without needing someone to hold your hand or spoonfeed you, right?
I'm not the one that needs the app, the OP of this thread does.
And....
If you read the first post in this thread, you will see that they are already using the Shortcut Maker app and it doesn't show/list the specific activity that they are looking for. The Disable Service app will probaly list activities that do not appear in Shortcut Maker.
You didn't even read the first post of this thread to understand the situation and you requested a link to an app that is extremely easy to find in the Playstore, both of these things are a bit lazy.

I'm the OP.
Searching on Play Store did not list an app with the exact name that you wrote, and those that showed up with similar names, require root. My device isn't rooted.
Also, just wondering if it would have been easier to simply post the link than spend time typing so much, and that too addressing someone who doesn't exist. I'm assuming you has a bad day. Chill buddy.

Sorry, I didn't look at your name, also, asking me if I tried Shortcut Maker made it seem like another member was mistaking me for you, that is why I thought it was someone other than you. Why would you ask if I tried Shortcut Maker as if I were the one that needed it to achieve something I wanted? The way you worded yourself threw a wrench in things from my perspective, as if you were some random member coming in the thread and confusing me with you asking me if I had tried Shortcut Maker as if they hadn't read the first post and seen where you stated that you were already using Shortcut Maker and then asking for a link on top of that just seemed like someone that wanted to be spoonfed. We don't spoonfeed members here, it is even in the Forum Rules, members are expected to search for themselves and then ask only when they can't find anything themselves.
I've used both Shortcut Maker and the Disable Service app, though, the Disable Service no longer seems available, that must be something recent because I just searched for it when I suggested it to someone a few weeks ago. But the Service Disabler app should do the same thing. I know it is for rooted devices, it requires root to actuallu use the app to disable/modify the services, it does not need root to show the list of services/activities on/in your device/apps. I'm only telling you to use it as a tool to see/find the name of the service/activity name, then use that information to do whatever you were trying to do with the service/activity name as you asked in your first post. You can uninstall Service Disabler as soon as you find the name of the service/activity.

Often, there are many apps with similar names, especially if they are doing the same functions, so when someone recommends an app based on personal experience, it helps to include the link to that app too because of the same reason mentioned above. This isn't spoon feeding. And as you confirm yourself, the app is no longer available on the Play Store, so anyone who looks for the app based on your suggestion, would have wasted time trying out several apps, except the one suggested.
Personally, I always include links when I'm helping someone. It doesn't cost me anything. But I understand we have different perspectives and approach.
But anyways, thanks for your time and effort.

I used to give detailed descriptions with all links included. Lots of times, it was posting descriptions and links that I had posted many different times for other members asking the same questions, answers that are already here, answers they would find if they searched for it. People treat this place like it is Reddit or Quora, just here to help and answer their questions when they have a problem/question, instead of what it actually is, a forum designed by developers for developers. The monotony of that became overbearing and then when you consider that I would often post 10's/dozens of posts a day, after being here for almost 10 years and helping 1000's and 1000's of users that just wanted someone to make things easy for them and just hand them everything they need to solve their issue while also being unwilling to try gaining some understanding of what they are dealing with, understanding that could/would help them in the future if they just paid attention, that eventually evolved into giving as straightforward of a description as I could and then telling the member how to find the things I mentioned for themselves, this not only encourages them to do the footwork of searching for themselves, it also helps refine and develop their ability to effectively search for what they need and actually get results. It isnt a matter of just searching, it is a matter of knowing what to search for and how to be more specific in their searching. A lot of times, users don't know the best search terms or keywords to use which leads them in circles, unable to find or make sense of anything. I would rather give them information to understand the issue or understand android itself, information that may help them understand their device, how the hardware/software actually functions so that they can have a better sense of how to go about doing things on the device. Show them the rules of the game and how it is played instead of just pointing them in a direction or just putting them on the field and letting them wander around doing things without understanding how their actions effect the outcome of the game. You can tell a person that 2+2=4, but you've done nothing if they don't understand the numbers or the math.
Long story short...
If you give someone a fish, you feed them for a day, but if you teach them how to fish, you feed them for a lifetime.

Appreciate that you have stuck around for so long, and helping people with solutions. I'm neither a developer, nor have been in this platform for too long. I'm not too active either. So I'll speak for myself.
I'm aware this platform started off by Developers, and for developers. However, it has grown much beyond that with Android evolving. The Developers are now a minority, albeit still the most important category.
Although you are speaking from your personal experience, as far as I have seen, people who come to this platform come for a very specific purpose, and don't treat it like a social media platform as far as I have seen. It is just that sometimes the threads become too long and they may not find answers they are looking for, despite searching for it.
In my case, you would see that well over 90% of my questions remain unanswered. I'm not complaining. I'm aware that my questions are indeed difficult because I post only when I don't find answers after doing sufficient research. And under these circumstances, this platform becomes the best place to ask those questions because this is a platform of default for Developers, and as q consequence also has the maximum probability of providing an answer.
Whatever we post here, is going to remain forever, and it is not limited to the original poster. The answers and comments will continue to help many more people with time. I wouldn't jump into concluding that someone hasn't done his homework. That's because I don't know. So when in doubt, it is best to give the benefit of doubt. Besides, it doesn't cost anything to include links, where applicable.
So while I agree that it is better to teach someone how to do something, than providing ready made solutions, there is often no point in reinventing the wheel.

Not yet. On the contrary, a lot of activities/ intent already visible within the Shortcut Maker app don't work too, with this error:
No app to open this shortcut.
Don't know yet how to solve this.
