Hi, so I bought the Honor 8 FRD-L04 (US version) and from the beggining I have a problem that drive me nuts! The volume on this phone suck. By Bluetooth or by the headphone jack, nothing is different. I've tried the same songs and headsets with my old OnePlus One or my Alienware laptop and the volume is a lot more louder. On this phone the volume is up to the maximum and the music just begin to be loud.
I try everything I could imagine, except resetting it. What I do wrong with this?
I even tried to talk the customers services but they this isn't a problem of the phone! They said that I need the original headset or it will not work! So I said to them that the phone you buy from Newegg doesn't come with the original headset in the box...
Anyway hope someone will have the solution! Thanks
I think what people interpret as loud is subjective. I came from the Galaxy Note 7 and I feel the sound is comparable. The Note 7 had a more tinny sound due to the water resistance but it was clearer. The Honor 8, I feel is as loud but distorts at increased volume on calls (pressing volume up once more at the max volume) and sometimes in YouTube videos with the highs (mids and lows are OK). Using headphones, I have never been one to use volume past 3/4. It just starts hurting my ears.
You may want to try to go into Best Buy or someplace that has the phone on display and test it out compared to yours. Maybe you have a defective unit. Good luck!
If you are rooted, try Viper4Android. If not, there are plenty of music players with powerful amps in the Play Store. I recommend JetAudio and PlayerPro.

Note that I never talked about the speaker on the device itself. Always by auxiliary cord or Bluetooth. You didn't understand what I'm trying to say: on my OnePlus one at 3/4 of the volume it hurt my ear, on this phone, when the volume maxed out, the loudness is comparable to OnePlus one at 40%.
Hope it make my problem more clear now.

Thanks for the proposition but i already try every player i could (including a paid one: Power Amp). Its not an application problem but maybe a ROM or hardware problem I now I try to find where it come from because customer support just won't help me.
Thanks

Seems like no other user have reported this problem. Hope you fix it man.

Have you tried with another unit just to check if you got a defective unit?
Also a backup, factory reset and restore?
Are you on the B150 firmware? The update notes said they improved something with audio playback.
In relatively quiet environments I have to turn down media volume to around half or it seems needlessly loud to me. I have a hard time hearing in noisier environments. Calls have been fine (I typically only make ~1min long calls that are straightforward with the person I'm speaking with already knowing why). Youtube playback can get drowned out by passing cars/trucks or my work's incessant, ****ty music.

These are my last tries before I sell this device.

Yes I saw these changes when I first updated it. Calls are ok I guess, but the multimedia volume is lacking of power for me. There is one thing I now is weird is when I put my headphone port on mono audio (in accessibility option), the power become more louder! That's why I'm thinking it's a firmware bugs but aren't sure of this enough.
Anyway thanks again

In conclusion it should be a firmware bug.

Definitely a software problem if an update caused it. The best thing I can think of is to root and install Viper4Android, see does that make a difference (Only attempt this if you know what you're doing!)
Sorry I couldn't be of more help

ARISE would be the best option.

What headphones you are use?
I totally understand what you mean. I've noticed it on my headphones in particular. I guess it's just a part of the phone and that rooting is the only solution.
Unless it is caused after a software upgrade, its a hardware problem. Try to replace it.

I think that I am not very good to communicate with people in English, because the problem is there from the beggining that I have this phone.

Well it's there since I have this phone so maybe it's hardware but aren't completely sure about it. Anyway Honor just don't want to help me at all, so I can't return it.

Every manufacturer will try to convince you. You should ask them again and again.
If you are not good in English, take a friend with you and speak.
Compare with any other Honor 8 phone with yours.
Did you go to the service centre by yourself? Or spoke through a call.. If you have gone with the second option, I would say that first option is far better to make him understand.

Well I'm pretty good to understand in English. To speak it's more har for me but up to today I've been able to be understood. I called them multiple times even to a higher rank employee. Here in Canada we do not have any real support because Honor isn't present here... They are only in the US, so I did not get the free 3 months screen waranty. Plus, going to a service center by myself? The only one is in Ontario. It's about 5 hours of traveling in a car, so I think that by calls is my best option. Anyway thanks for the help.
This week I will backup my data and reset it after.
Looking at potentially buying this phone in the future but I'm curious to see if it can be done or has anyone been able to successfully remove it yet?
Anticipating the answer :S
If that's you only worry about Europe and its laws you are one lucky person.
Ryland
Best way to remove it is to turn your volume up, and when it asks you the question, press ok.
Then if you don't reboot the phone it won't ask you again.
I have to admit though, the poor volume of the S8 as well as most Android phones barring HTC, makes the cap irrelevant because if anyone hurts their ears listening to music through an S8+ they had broken ears already haha.
Wait, EU is responsible for that feature? Those f.....s
no....as long as it's a law
Gotta love the EU - controlling A$$ holes

sorry for the late reply, yep, good old EU, it effects all audio devices in the UK and europe, even the high end ones, it's always a issue for me especially when i am choosing a new phone and being able to root and remove it.

lol no that is not how you remove it, if it was that easy i would be able to do that on any device, no matter if the volume is turned up or not the volume cap will still reduce the volume no matter what, the only way to remove it permanently is via root, i still have my note 4 with root and the volume cap removed + custom rom with better audio i don't think i could ever part with it tbh, the S8 and S8+ are new so i guess it's the waiting game for now.

the nanny state and all, i can't stand the EU, what gives them the right to think for us really, what next? a timer on all tvs to turn off at a certain day so we are ready for bed? it's really is stupid.
furthermore with the recent news about the note 8 maybe it's best to wait for that phone instead, i'm more than patient to wait anyway, no rush, hopefully that will get rooted and the volume cap removed maybe.
but if either phone doesn't get root & EU volume cap removed i could always go back to legacy devices like my ipod classic (yes i stil have one of those ) the sound on them are still good till this day, only limitation is the space on them but i'll manage i guess.
till now i'll use my note 4 till it dies, it's 3 years old and still going strong for now.
With a bit of luck by March 2019 we'll have left the eu behind & all ludicrous laws. Cannot come soon enough.
Just be thankful that its not like some devices where it will nag you EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. when you turn the volume back up. At least this phone will only bug you once and then leave you alone until a certain amount of time passes or you restart. My Samsung Tab Pro S for example... *shudder*
this is why i would feel cheated buying a £800 phone and putting up with this
http://forums.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?t=796398&p=5798523&viewfull=1#post5798523
i's ridiculous really and the volume is worse with bluetooth too, if i can't remove it i don't want it
No.
It's here to stay.
Even when the UK leaves the EU I doubt Samsung will not have the cap on UK handsets.
On the other hand:
European Phones are easy rootable (the samsung galaxy ones)
US Phones are always more difficult to root and so on (because of the different chips - exynos / snapdragon)
All the best,
lienot
Samsung phones have always been plenty loud enough for me.
You know loud noise damages hearing, right? So the more you listen to loud music, the more you need to turn up the volume.
Better not to get started on the vicious circle in the first place.
For anyone who can't see the 3 dots (tested on S8+ and S10+)
1. Download the free app QuickShortcutMaker from the Play store
2. Run it and type "volume" in the search box
3. When "Settings" appears in the search results below, open the tree and tap on "Settings / Media Volume Limiter"
4. From the choices that appear, tap the "Try" option
5. You have now opened Media Volume Limiter, which is where the 3 dots would have taken you. You should see a switch to turn the limiter on or off and a volume bar set to about 2/3
6. Tap the switch to turn the limiter ON
7. Drag the volume limit to the far right
8. Job done. Bollocks to Brussels.
I had several Android phones in the last years, but the OnePlus 7 Pro's minimum volume of the internal speakers is way louder than on any other phone.
For me it's even way too loud. I regularly listen to podcasts in bed when my wife is right next to me and it's too loud to not disturb her.
I found several apps for boosting the volume, but is there any app that decreases it?
Headphones
Too uncomfortable when in bed and I often fall asleep while listening to podcasts. Otherwise I would have done it already...
I can't tell if this is a joke thread or not
No joke. Just google my issue and you'll find several threads for different OnePlus devices. I'm not the only one.
My guess would be you needa custom rom that increases the volume steps. Or maybe ask in one of the magisk rom threads if the developr is able to add that funcionality. More steps would possibly give you a lower low setting.
Thanks, but I don't want to use a custom rom (camera, drm,...). Seems like I have to live with it then.
I am with OP. I had the same problem with the HTC phone with 1st gen Boom sound. Its audio was great but the lowest volume was too loud for night listening. It seems the Oneplus engineers are like HTC's who didn't bother to adjust the audio profile when they switch from one speaker to two. Samsung Galaxy never had this issue.
In the case of HTC there was no fix until I switched to Cynogen where the audio volume increments were much finer than stock. I think each click in the Oneplus7Pro stock is 3% increment and unfortunately it is impossible to go from 3% to 1% in volume slider using one's finger.
There are many games i play and sometimes videos are too loud at the lowest volume. I learned to live with it. And yes this is for quiet time but dont want or cant wear headphones.
I also realized that. Its pretty loud compared to my Op5T or OPO I had. But its not that big of an issue for me
I'm glad I'm not the only one.
My suggestion: Please open a ticket via the OnePlus' Community app feedback function. The more user report this, the better. Maybe OnePlus will consider additional volume steps then.

Same it is "loud" on lowest setting
Same for me, too loud.
I already sent a ticket about that, as a suggestion if I remember, we just have to wait for the devs if they care about it.
I also reported that sometimes I have "double sound notification", maybe the stereo is not synced well.
There is a little shift.
Also, seems kinda loud ...
For now custom ROMs are the best options. Google Cam is better than One Plus cam anyway and game mode can be achieved with many apps. Think about it, what really make you stay on OnePlus ROMs ? OxygenOS is not far from stock but have a lot of issues like this.
Started using my new Airpods Pro on my Pixel 3 yesterday and I have to crank the volume to get it to a decent level. Enabling/disabling absolute volume makes no difference. All the other suggestions I'm finding seem to pertain to earlier versions of Android (I'm on 10), as there doesn't seem to be any setting for Media Volume Sync or separate bluetooth volume control. Any suggestions?

I noticed the OXYGEN UPDATER APP now has Android 12 available to install but it hasn't quite made it to the official update in the settings. Just wondering if anyone has tried this update and whether you experienced or heard of any bugs?
I have no reason to think there is but Ive literally heard nothing good, bad or neutral. It's like no one owns this phone anymore. An update like this used to be noteworthy. That said, if anyone reads this and you have info, please share. Thanks
I have updated my device today and one thing I have noticed the most is that volume levels after the update are much lower than they were. I cannot use normally my earphones indoors and cannot image how bad it will perform outdoors.
Would be grateful if someone knows how to fix such problem.

I appreciate the feedback. I still haven't updated, but lately I've had volume issues. Both pairs of ear buds are noticeably lower than they were in the past. On one pair the right ear bud is barely usable, especially in a somehat noisy setting, but it's gotta be an issue with the ear bud.
In general, I need to crank them all the way up in the gym.

I have fixed the issue with low sound levels when using earphones, but, unfortunately, I cannot describe clearly how 'cause it was a bit incomprehensible. I just connected one more time my earphones to smartphone, opened some video on YouTube, then pop-out of some option about volume came out. Then I tapped on it and there was an option that has strange description (maybe it is because of localization) that I switched on, and the volume issue fixed magically. After that, I couldn't find that option once again in settings.
Sounds familiar. I think it's a built-in volume limiter. Should be able to find something in the settings and if not maybe enable developer settings and see if you find it there. Something like "absolute volume".
But it looks like you got it sorted out anyway.
Actually nevermind. I got that confused with something else. I believe all that would do is keep the earbuds and the phone volumes separate.
There's been talk that Android 12 and Android Auto don't work well in some cars - not OnePlus specific, but in general. Has anyone tried Android Auto with 12 yet on the OP8?
Alan
I did the update, and here is what I notice:
The icons on top of the screen are not the same size.
The Notifications sometimes are lost (Whatsapp/text etc)
Whatsapp voice calls echo and sometimes the phone does not ring
Ghost touches when gaming (clash royale)
The screen goes ON for no reason
The battery sometimes is okay, sometimes it drains (your mileage may vary)
Screen unlock fingerprint behavior slow at times and sometimes is fine.
The volume issue that everyone is reporting
All of if has been reported to OnePlus. If you visit the OP forums everyone is pretty pissed off about it myself included.
Honestly, it feels like this is an Alpha version of the ROM and they are using the general public to test and find bugs.
This is pretty frustrating a phone is not a toy is a tool for work and to communicate with others.
Fingerprint unlock stops working after a few days. Reboot brings it back.
Just to update. AA works fine with Android 12 on my OP8
