Just got just Nexus S 4G today, and have experienced during all calls a staticy buzzing sound when the person in the other end is speaking. The best way to explain it is , it sounds as if there is gain on their voices are the louder points.
I so don't want to exchange, but curious if any One else has seen this.. or heard this.
I'm going to mess with voodoo sound tomorrow to see if it helps any. I'm rooted with netarch's kernel, but it was happening before this.
Thanks!

I'm on the European Version of the Nexus S - I9023 and I'm getting that too... I want to think that it's not the phone itself but I don't know... This buzzing only happens if the volume is over 50% and sometimes even at lower volume levels...
Does anybody know what this might be? Is it a software issue where, for example, the pitch on the calls is to loud and maybe te Voodoo sound would fix it, or is it definitely a hardware issue?

I spoke today with a guy that fixes phones for a living and he told me that the issue is the filter from the earpiece. The phone might've suffered a bump at the store when the people there handled it and that messed with the filter. He said that I can take it to the Samsung service to get it fixed or I can leave it like this... He said it doesn't get worst in time if the issue doesn't get resolved...

hey,
think everyone got this since the update. We had some posts on this in the german android help forums.
I mailed motorola, they said I should try a factory reset.. which didnt help (so you dont have to try).
I mailed them again and they said they forward that error to the technicians. So when I here something about this I post it here !
Please post all questions in the Q & A section. Thanks! Thread moved.

My MZ608-32 have the same problem after I upgrade to ICS, only sound on one speaker, I try to factory reset two times and nothing, in some aplications the lower speaker function with very low volume at example some YouTube videos. With readphones both sides work fine.
In my MZ607 from Brazil I have same bug. But I like so much this bug, with it I send my MZ607 for warranty and probably I get my money back. And get unlock bootloader tablet.
Not Good
I have a Xoom 2 ME and since updating to ICS, I too, have the same sound problem. Do you all think it is worth us clubbing together and sending a mass e-mail to Motorola and see if we can get some form of OTA update to fix the problem? We are only getting half the speakers working and we paid for them ALL to work!
Has anyone got a place we can send such error reports to?
Many Thanks in Advance

Let's see what will be the excuse this time...
Hi guys.
I found a workaround for this bug. For now im using some Tasker profiles to change the speakers configuration when the screen orientation is changed, but i plan to write an app to do this automatically. Root is needed to workaround this bug, and permanent rom changes aren't necessary so it doesn't break OTA updates.
In not sure why motorola disabled this feature on the ics update, it works ok here, a "pop" can be heard when the screen is rotated, maybe thats their reason...
Hi, it would be great to make the speakers work again.
Regards.
Hi guys, sorry for the delay on this. The apk is done and uploaded to google play. Been using it for a few weeks now, works good.

Please, thank this post if it has fixed your xoom. :good:

At least the Xoom 2 ICS works well.
My original Xoom running Motorola's ICS lags a lot... Also, it crashes and reboots at least once everyday...
Thank you bro

Hey guys, I have recently switched over to Wind Mobile a couple weeks ago, and I have been experiencing difficulties making phone calls over the network. I have no difficulty picking up a signal, and I am able to receive and send text messages, and use the data network successfully using my cellphone.
My problem is this:
I am able to dial and answer a phone call, and I can hear the other person on the line crystal clear. However, on their end, my voice is garbled and you cannot hear what I am saying at all. The phone call sounds like it's underwater.
This cannot be a hardware issue, as I have succesfully tested the voice input of my phone using a voice recording application, and was successful.
These are the specs of my SR:
ROM: CvR Nibbles 1.6
Kernel: 3.0.49-Nibbles-v0.1.3
Baseband: T989UVLI4
The radio I am using is picking great signals from Wind, consistently getting around 3-4 bars. I am able to access their mobile network flawlessly.
Any reason why this may be? This problem persists regardless of my location, or my signal at the time of the call.
Thanks in advance.
Try a different rom and see if you have the same problem

If your are using a call recorder turn it off to and check your noise suppression settings.

Update here, even after flashing some new ROMs, issue still persists. Any other suggestions? Could it be the radio on my phone?
Working on this myself...
Thought I was being so nice, giving my niece a skyrocket...
They are on Wind, we are visiting them in calgary.
The garbled sound problem looks entirely unsolved according to my hunting, and trying many radios.
Has anyone gotten past this?
Now using CM10, Tried tons of T989 radios, the ones that DO connect, the outgoing call sound is just a garbled mess.

The weird solution is... Turn ON noise suppression in the settings in the phone app!!
(Noise suppression was mentioned above, or I would have never known.)
UGLH2, UVLH1, Both of these worked, but probably a universal thing.
You guys ALL ROCK.

Hey all,
Everything was fine and dandy with calls being loud and clear, until about a few days ago.
One day the call quality from my side just randomly went from great to terrible.
I can hear the other side just fine, but from my side its really low-volume and barely hearable.
Things I've tried:
-Flashing different radios (25R,30O,33R,Find7, radio from the latest nightlies)
-Flashing different ROMs and kernels
-Switching network modes (LTE, 3g, 2g)
-Combinations of the above
If anyone has experience dealing with issues like this/knows anything to improve the call volume from my side, any help would be very much appreciated.

Yup, the speakerphone works great but its inconvenient.
Gutted to have such a basic function impaired.
Hopefully this issue will be fixed by the next OTA, which should be next week around Monday.
Same here. My call quality is really bad. When I am speaking on the phone I'm typically running around desperately trying to find a quieter place, with the phone held up to my left ear and a finger plugged right into my other ear, hunched over like Quasimodo in a desperate attempt to understand 50% of what the other person is saying.
I learned one thing from the OPO. You actually do get exactly what you pay for. Lesson learned. :good:
win
So, after updating to the latest version of vanir and re-flashing the 33R radio, my in-call volume magically got back to normal.
I wish everyone affected best of luck and patience :fingers-crossed:
OPO hype much more than the phone deserves. Not going to last long

@Kiahnlliya @jrior001 @latenightchameleon My in call audio volume from the earpiece is really very low & muffled. I think I am audible on the other end, coz haven't got any complaints from people talking to me. I am on stock 33R unrooted. This is really annoying & really hope I can get rid of this issue with a firmware upgrade.

It's a very simple fix if rooted. You need to edit a value in mixer_paths.xml. Some custom ROMs increase the value.

No you'll need root or custom recovery to flash the zip unfortunately. Otherwise you will need to wait for your ROM to be updated. CM have merged this in their commits so hopefully if your on stock CM11S you'll see this in the next update.
thanks alot mate for the fix.

This is going to sound kind of dumb, but make sure your pinky finger is not covering the microphone on the bottom. I've had people tell me they have this exact problem with the Galaxy S5 only to discover that the user is holding the phone in a manner that places the pinky finger over the microphone. T-Mobile support sent one user FIVE different phones. Same problem each time (the receiver can't hear anything but the caller can hear the receiver fine). I overhear the user complaining about "Crappy T-Mobile" and ask him to call me while I'm watching him. Sure enough, I can't hear him. I reach over, move his pinky finger, and the call is perfect.
With this new gen voice calls are dreadful. Quality is horrible I can bearly here the other person sometimes. Depending on the area but still I turned VoLTE off.
