With a phone yes, with the ring, I doubt it. Maybe control the phone via the ring to make the phone do it.

yes this is what i have in mind, i know that it's possible to do that with a smartwatch (smartwatch who send instruction to the smartphone who send instruction to the pc; i did not tried too)
but i wonder if i can use the same "technic" with a smartring?

I seem to be having a problem where my data connection stops working and I need to reboot the phone in order for it to start working again. I can still make calls and send sms but if I try to access the market on go on the internet for example, it doesn't work (even if I try wireless) I've tried different roms, different modems and the problem keeps coming back. Does this happen to anybody else? Does anybody know of a fix for this? It's as if the phone goes into a sleep mode and then won't fully wake up.

I've done odin, but have not done the sim. You really think the sim would do this?
Sim card will do it.

Thank you. Unfortunately, the xda app doesn't have a thanks button (it should). But now that I'm on here, everybody gets a thanks. The "people" got thanked twice because he complained.
thanks again for the help. As soon as I get a chance I'm passing by an ATT store to replace the sim, this is really annoying
I was wondering if any developers would be willing to look in to the Moto Assist app, I know there's a few of us that would like to be able to toggle the driving functionality on and off at will.
I work from home programming, so it's great to be able to just vocally tell my phone to read me texts, or answer calls... but then I'd like to be able to turn it off when I go out to dinner haha. I've already tried work-arounds like forcing car mode on, or downloading other apps. Nothing works as well as the stock Moto Assist app, but unfortunately it only works when I'm driving, it must pull from the GPS.
Anyway, if someone could look into this that would be awesome, it's a bit beyond my ability regrettably. Thanks! :fingers-crossed:
Like being able to say.. "okay Google now. Turn on moto assist"

Jeez, this is quite a shock coming from the Galaxy Nexus. I didn't realize developers for this phone would be so sparse.

No kidding. :|
I'll see if I can get around to decompiling the APK today and poke around. Hopefully I can bypass the driving check at worst and just have it always on, or always off.

+1 I think I'll donate $5 to anyone who does this
I thought of this one too
Look at these weird permissions assist has maybe we just need an app with these permissions

EDIT
New finding in SmartActionsHanashi.apk ... there's a service com.motorola.hanashi.CommunicationMediatorService (my guess on which service it is) and I think (I dont do much reverse engineering) we just need an app to activate the service after we edit the SmartActionsHanashi.apk to make the service exported (it is false ATM)...
I would try it myself but with no root I cant reinstall the SmartActionsHanashi.apk
Edit like 4
SmartActionsHanashi.apk also has all of the right resources. so i am 90% sure that this is the apk we are looking for.
If anyone would like to try my idea PM me, you WILL need root.

In all fairness, it's a completely different situation. I know with my Droid DNA it took MONTHS to see anything other than slightly modded stock ROMs.
I'm sure the Moto X community will pick up in the next few months but that being said i'll probably get a Nexus 5 to satisfy my urges.

New development assist app uses new modified smart actions app and there are rules in here that correspond to assist actions but using the ones they have all I can do is confuse the phone..... There are also strange actions that don't do anything except if in the driving sleeping meeting actions ....in the pictures I'm sitting at my desk but in the status bar you can see I'm "driving" but no texts are read and music didn't start either....
Sent from my XT1058 using Tapatalk 4
Edit the command i got to open the assist engine is
adb shell
su? idk i just used it
[email protected]:/ # am start com.motorola.contextual.smartrules2/.app.AboutActivity
AOV is Touchless Controls
I believe LED is Active Notification
use with caution i probably messed up my assist just now
Is anyone still working on this by chance? The only thing about my Moto X that I wish was different is having the ability to switch having the phone read my texts aloud on and off at will. I'm surprised that such a useful feature is limited to only driving when there are so many situations where it would be useful. Being able to do this without needing root access would be ideal.
This would be very useful and definitely be awesome for a work environment.
I am going to try and do it again. I have some new ideas on how to do it!
Will post in here and make a new thread if profit is achieved :fingers-crossed:
I would defiantly donate $10 for this.
Profit
Hi!
I´m looking for a good (and preferable free) app that keeps the phone unlocked when the SW2 is connected via bluetooth.
Thank´s for any advice!
Try skiplock.. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.benhirashima.skiplock
Not affiliated with this app...I use it with my home WiFi and smartwatch 1... Have to enter pin once... And as long as smartwatch stays connected you don't need to enter pin again
sent from my S3.
I use tasker, disable screen security when watch is connected

Yeah skiplock works well but unfortunately is a bit expensive. I was debating whether to buy it but I'm hoping for a cheaper or free alternative
Just use tasker, I have had it working for ages

Problem with this software or the tasker BTNear function, is the battery consumption it requires to track the device.
Here is an alternative solution i made here that take virtually no battery, and root is not needed.
The trick is that it will not track the device itselft, but the notification Android make when the device is connected/disconnected.
here's a step-by-step mini guide to use tasker and smart connect to enable/disable lockscreen
hope it helps
cheers

Nice idea, however smart connect refuse to add action with low energy Bluetooth devices (Sony smartband for example)
A bit stupid because it is smart connect that notifies me if my smartband is connected or not.

It works for me just fine. The issue seems to be on your end. Maybe your network is too slow or maybe something else on your phone is keeping it from going through.
What are trying to do? Who are trying to contact? There may be another way.

I'm using xda on desktop (Chrome).
This is what I'm accessing.

Change username or cancel an account.
I wanted to change my username.
I put all my details and pressed "Send" then a rotating icon appeared which was rotating infinite times.

If you can't get it to work from the device itself, maybe you can share the screen to PC and use PC to screenshot/screen record.

That is one way, along with various forms of "screencast" and screen mirror methods, methods that are not associated to remote access/control, they only share what is being displayed.

Do Screencast and screen mirror require a separate device? I don't have any.
Or are there apps which can do this? If yes, can you tell me the names of a few?

Depending in the exact method or program you use, they work with other devices, PC, TV, etc..., it requires your device to have some kind of screencast/screen mirror app to be installed, whether stock or 3rd party, it also requires the receiving device(other android device, PC, TV) to have compatible software installed to receive. Examples of software would be ScreenCast, MiraCast, etc...
