External Storage Issue? - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Bought an external storage device (Samsung T5 SDD). It does not detect on my OnePlus 6. I can plug it into my OnePlus 6T and laptop though and it works fine. Is there some sort of hardware or software issue between the 6 and the 6T that allows my 6T to see it but not the 6?
Both OnePlus phones are on stock ROM and rooted.

Maybe some setting you missed? Mine reads my memory just fine, from system and twrp

Thank you that did it. Weird I don't have to toggle that on my 6T. I plug it in and it just shows up.

I've just got a quick question for you, what speeds do you achieve on an SSD via otg? I'm wondering if I should get a flash drive for otg or an SSD

It's hit and miss to be honest. Not as fast as plugging into my PC.
OnePlus I believe is USB 2.0 so can't get much past 30MByte/sec. I can get 10x that over USB-C on my PC.
It's a Samsung T5 1TB SSD.

[Q] USB OTG Support?

I've searched everywhere online and i'm getting conflicting results, so I was wondering if anyone who has one can confirm if the idol 3 5.5" has USB Host or On-The-Go (OTG) capabilities. Thank you very much.
Yes!
I'll confirm 100% I have used the following SUCCESSFULLY:
- 3 port OTG cable with TWO USB thumb drives plugged in, one USB3 64GB and one USB2 8GB
- 1 port OTG cable with ONE USB super nintendo controller
- 1 port OTG cable with generic USB 2.0 SDR receiver for Radio tuning (scanner capabilities confirmed)
I hope this helps!
I think every phone with kernel version 3 and up has OTG support... Correct me if I'm wrong

Mmmh software talking, I do think so. But hardware talking, it's not always the case. My current phone as kernel 3.4.67 which can theorically support OTG but hardware is not compatible, so I can't use OTG at all :/
Awesome! Thanks!
I have an OTG cable but don't know how to work with on my alcatel one idol 3, could you help me out?

Usually, phone mounts the USB storage automatically and display a pop-up window.
If not, Go to Settings > Storage > Mount USB Storage
I tried otg also, in 9 of 10 cases, phone reject usb, in one case connections was achieved, and i can copy files from usb. But, even in that case, after some time, connection brakes. Annoying. This phone definitely support otg, but something doesnt work well.
Does alcatel Idol 3 support micro sd using otg?

Of course it does!
Yes, tested it the same day I bought it
awesome! im thinking of replacing my tab S with this one. more pocketable and with updated specs. except for the screen resolution, but who cares
Yes it is, but there is a problem witch that the device restart each time disconnect the external flash to set default location to internal storage.
I tried the external WiFi adapter from tp-link with Mate 8 but nothing happened. Wondering if any one has tried a wifi adapter with Mate 8 using an OTG cable/connector?
Yep, it does, but it took me 2 different OTG connector/adapters to find one that worked.

Samsung T3

The Samsung T3 external SSD is USB type C and is extremely fast. Using the stock cord that came with my phone I can make a twrp backup faster than to the internal storage.
Anyone else use one?

That's because your phone has to read and write from flash at the same time. My OTG cable and USB 3.0 drive i've had for 2 years os still faster than backing up internally also. But I agree, the T3 would probably super tots.
The T3 is also very fast with the computer. Transfers 5gb in seconds

I've tried hooking up my otg micro USB cable with flash drive. But 6p isn't reading. I figured it can't transmit data micro USB style. Is that why its not reading it? Have you tried that @Gytole?

I used micro usb otg cable, then micro USB to type c adapter, into 6p. Im saying I used a type c adapter and I think that's why it wasn't connecting to the flash drive but either way whatever happened it was not connecting and I tried numerous times I even tried apps like stickmount
Whether the nexus 6p works with exfat or NTFS formatted drive
Please confirm
3rd party app will mount exFAT-formatted T3

I just took another pass at getting my 6P to work with my exFAT-formatted T3, and this time around (Android 7.1.2) saw multiple paths to success.
Firstly, this time, when I plugged in my device, the system presented a notification, which led to a dialog asking if I wanted to "format the device for mobile data storage" – which would have meant reformatting to FAT32. Not what I wanted, but pretty cool that it was an option and I didn't have to go digging.
Secondly, a quick googling turned up a third-party app that will mount exFAT volumes. It's called Paragon exFAT/NTSF (I don't have permission to post urls here yet). I had to pay $5 for exFAT support, and it wanted Total Commander (free) to browse and operate on the files.

Mi 4C OTG Cable

I've been looking around for an OTG cable that will work with my Mi 4c and haven't got any guarantees from any I've viewed that it will work with Mi 4c. I know for sure the 4c supports OTG. Does anyone know of a cable that works?
You need to have Type-C OTG converter, there are alot on Ali Express sold with reference to Nexus 5x & mi4c

The OTG cable has been tested to work (Nexus device and Xperia) and the adapter works for data sync. I have only tried with USB though, so that might be the issue
Hello !
Problem is more that a lot of USB sticks/devices are not recognized. The adpaters that I have worked well, but only every third USB stick.

I ordered this one:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Elo..._2&btsid=c8d2641a-70b4-46fd-bad6-ec0e0eede4ed
works perfectly. It arrived today after about 3 weeks. Working perfectly with my NTFS formatted HP 8GB and Kingston 16GB Flash Drives. My HP USB flash drive is v220w and Kingston's is Data Traveler 2.0
you need to reformat with Allocation unit not more than 16kb if your flash drive isnt recognized. I keep mine at 8kb while formatting.
Nice

Problem with connecting Kingston USB DTDU03C via USB-C / OTG

When I leave this USB flash disk connected to phone during rebooting / switching on, everything is OK, I can see this disk in "My Files". But when I connect it simply when the phone is switched on, phone do'nt recognized it. This applies to connections both directly via USB-C and via OTG reduction to USB-A.

Yea not that long. Out of curiosity the port isn't dirty or anything is it? Only other thing I could say is maybe a firmware update

Thank you for your answer! I think USB-C port is OK, connections to USB-DAC, computer etc. are OK, also after rebooting phone with connected USB flash is disk visible everytime OK. So I will continue to look for a solution.
I have the same issue. Has anyone found a solution?
