Chinese to Global ROM? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

I'm in China, and am getting a 7 Pro, but they don't have the global firmware for sale.
Is it possible to flash the Chinese phone with the global firmware?
If so, how?

Out of curiosity, isn't that illegal as a Chinese citizen?
(Honest question. I don't know.)

I heard something about that, but I'm not a chinese citizen, and am planing to bring the phone back.

If nothing changes from previous generations:
Download OOS, full ROM, not OTA file
Put the zip file in internal storage (/sdcard aka. /storage/emulated/0)
Settings - System - System updates - Gear icon on top right corner - Local upgrade
Factory reset if GApps FC
They made it so H2OS and OOS can be easily converted, so it doesn't make sense if they changed the policy.

That's correct, no need to unlock bl or anything.
I'm not sure how their warranty works overseas (but I assume no cover). If you have enough time in China, you can try to flash it and, if anything goes wrong, mail the device back so they can get it fixed, should be with no charge.
The availability is more a problem, I've heard something like, you need a voucher code in order to purchase (sometimes there's no inventory even with the code), or you need to wait for a certain time period. The CEO says they've started sending some inventory for foreign countries back to mainland China, so things could get better over time.
BTW they didn't seem to expect the 12G variant to be this popular (in fact I was talking to my friend during the announcement, saying 8G is more than enough, who needs 12G; then in the end I was like, screw it, I'll buy the 12G )

If nothing changed since Oneplus 5, you're covered internationally, meaning you can send in your OP for repair in e.g. Germany despite having bought it in China.
Would be nice if anyone could confirm OP kept this up?

I contacted support and they said:
(1) I would need to send the phone to the service center to change the OS
(2) Warranty is only valid in the region of purchase.a
Not sure if the OS change is really impossible to be done by the user alone, but the warranty thing sounds like a firm no.

How to know if the phone is new and never used or not ?

How to know please if my phone is new or not? Knowing that the box was opened and unsealed when I received it?
I installed the application "Phone INFO" but apparently since Android 6.0 it is only possible to know this "counter informations" (Number of times of the USB cable and headphones have been connected) by rooting the device before.
But my Snapdragon-based model is not yet rootable, so it's not possible to get this counter informations via the "Phone INFO" application.
So, how to get this informations otherwise? Or what other application can give me this please?

Not sure, but why did you accepted unsealed box?
Sent from my SM-G955F using Tapatalk
Exactly you shouldn't had accepted it.
Take it back to store and get replacement.
You can give a try by calling Samsung and giving them the IMEI number and could figure out if has being activated or not.

I live in France, and I ordered it on Internet at a Ebay UK shop apparently known and serious, which themselves received the product from HK.
Following my question, they sent me this answer:
"All items are brand new, original and unlocked.
Some of the items may not be sealed in Asian market.
The item will be undergone quality assurance process, original box and
Seal may be used as a warranty.
But the answer does not reassure me, and I want to check if the product is really new?
How to contact Samsung please?
Is there any other way to know if the phone has never been used?

It's best to return it, I'm from Asia and i never bought unsealed phone, I've even been to HK and even bought Moto Milestone few years ago and i got it sealed, i even bought an iPhone 5S from Singapore once, i got it sealed pack and i live in India, even in India i always got sealed phone
Sometimes it can't be sealed because some phones are region locked and need to be opened to place a 5 min Phone call to unlock the region lock
Use the app "charge cycle counter" to read how many times the battery has went through a full cycle. It will read the info from a text file on the device that will survive any reset to the device.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.cerebrum.ChargeCycleCounter
I know the screenshot says it only counts since the app was installed, but that's not the case with Samsung phones as the battery stores the info
Thank you all.
The app "charge cycle counter" is not reliable.
It would be a shame to return the phone if it is really new. I want be sure...
Other solutions please?
Shuthefrontdoor is correct, they are opened to remove the region lock then repackaged. You could also check the tires for wear to see if it was driven around...

The SM-G9550 model (HK) already factory unlocked. Why to open the box then ?
What is "Shuthefrontdoor" and "the tires for wear"? I did not understand...
Shuthefront door is the name of the member that replied to the thread, it also could be customs that opens the packages and the check the tires is humor.

Since the latest firmware of Samsung, it needs root to read the Usage Counters, as well as the Original CSC.
It is due to the fact that Samsung has strengthened its security policy. It is NOT the app's mistake.
If you have root, you still can see those info.
Please read the FAQ #01 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49425630&postcount=3

why dont you just check if the phone has anything scratches
If your phone is working and does not have any kind of lock and if there is no way to return i would suggest to just forget everything and use it like a new phone

I bought an S8+ from online ended up getting incorrect phone. It has following issues with current software
1. Though phone is has 128 GB storage when it is connected its shows as 2.2 GB
2. Not sure what is actual version and model of this.
3. Bixby won't work
4. Navigation settings bar won't work
5. No other settings available
6. Currently it is stocked with T-mobile software and its not getting updates from T-mobile

Due to the above problems taught of installing new software using Odin as instructions shared in our forums . It has Chinese boot loader and by selection "Wipe/Clear eMMC" its never stays in download mode to install the software. Odin is also not detecting the phone.
Could you please help me installing new OS and solving the above problems ?

Yep definitely a knockoff with the Mediatek CPU. Samsung use either Qualcom Snapdragon or Exynos CPU. You won't find a Mediatek CPU in Samsung device...

Thank you . I am confused by storage total space shows as "128GB" and Phone storage shows as <4GB
They use an app to trick the phone into showing more storage than it has. I had one from Thailand that said 64gb internal storage but after a factory reset the story was VERY different.
It's like the sd cards you can get that are supposedly more than what they really are.
Usually once you exceed the storage limit you loose data or corrupt everything.
You have a novelty toy, nothing more....
I really hope yuou didn't pay $50USD If you paid via Paypal, bite the bullet , put in a for this (and even that seems a bit high for what your showing)as you have been ripped off BIUG time if you paid any more...
If you used Paypal, put in a dispute and send the item back to get your money back. The dispute is the item is a fake. You didn't get what you paid for...

Just some.advice, cause that listing looks shady as sh1t...if you're going to buy off Craigslist have the seller meet you at T-Mobile so they can verify its a genuine T-Mo device. If they're not willing to do that, then run, run, run from that listing.
This is low quality fake S8+, you won't able to install Samsung firmware and it will only break it if you do so.
For price of $350, definitely impossible is a real one.

Sprint - Anyone regret unlocking the bootloader

So I just picked up a refurbished Sprint v20. It is currently at zv3 so i'll be able to use Dirty Santa. My issue is do I? I know there's no going back since there isnt a factory image for Sprint.
If you've unlocked, are you happy you did so?
Very happy. but im biased since i made it...
Well, I didn't need much convincing. Thanks! Very smooth process, it's really nice to actually have TWRP on a lg phone again. Haven't had that since my LG G2.
yea it was a no brainer for me coming from a sgs7e , i hated the fact i could not do nanddroids or flash custom roms, i love my v20.
Bootloader possibly unlocked
So I just called Sprint and reemed them on how there bootloader practices are illegal and that this is an open source phone. Not an Iphone. My device is paid off ect. They supposedly are fully unlocking it as we speak. In the mid of a six hour phase I guess. I was told not to reboot during six hours. On ZVD firmware btw. If this does happen to get fully unlocked including bootloader ect., can I finally root my phone? I really hope so. I am running out of options.

Well at around 4/5pm est. I am going to check. When I reboot it should tell me if unlocked right? If its not, then I will call again. I specifically told them bootloader and reasked. She said yes and that I will able to do whatever I want to with it. My network was already unlocked as well before I even called.

Sadly I did not notice any difference. I got an Android update message a few times. That happens daily though. I will call them tomorrow. Had a few unforseen events happen that strained original plans. Either way this is bull****. They should not be allowed to lock an open source down. I am trying to get this taken care of. Open source doesn't mean you have to have an unlocked bootloader. Open source just means you must be provided with a copy of the source code of the open source components (some parts are closed source), which LG has complied by allowing anyone access through this site.
Personally I'd be surprised if it's even technically feasible for them to unlock your bootloader.

Ok...well anyway not being able to root is still garbage. Especially on a device that is paid off. I only pay for service.
Love also how - the variant is rootable and this one is not game. So should I be mad a Sprint or LG? Whos fault is it?Rooting is perfectly legal. Seems blocking it is just as legal in this case.

Because this has the flagships that I want. Except root. Cant even find a rootable one to buy unless I get a non sprint phone. I am also not posting out of anger, but for irritation of companies thinking that thay can do what ever and we have to take it.
Was wondering tho, if I am network unlocked, cant I take to a different carrier and their firmware would replace Sprints ZVD one (cdma I know) , and then be able to root via that phone/firmware method?

If it wasn't for antirollback (all other firmware, except the h918 which has a different key so no other variant can flash it, is antirollback 0) you could, but the way it is you'd brick if you forced it on there.

Huawei removing bootloader unlock codes for all huawei and honor devices

Such sad news, I literally got my device today!
The problem for me is that even though I could unlock my device now, the pull of users and developers to this device is going to plummet to zero on xda , there won't be any (or very few) ROM's, adopters will avoid the device... It's a horrible move from huawei who have a sponsor partnership with xda?? Xda have said they're going to fight it but my guess is huawei may look at their wallet rather than their hearts and stick to their guns.
By all accounts it's "to provide a better service". ???
I have a cooling off period for another 13 days.
If things don't change in a week I'm sending this wonderful opportunity phone back.
Never again
https://www.xda-developers.com/huawei-stop-providing-bootloader-unlock-codes/
Edit: all that being said, I like this phone too much, even runs ppsspp and dolphin the same as the onelus 5 did, I've unlocked the bootloader, installed twrp and rooted and now it's running perfectly.
Going to give it a chance.

In the same boat mate, received the phone on Wednesday, got the bootloader unlock code sitting in my email index waiting to be used....and now I see this.
In two minds about the whole thing, on one hand love the phone it seems pretty damn great to me, only want to root for 2 issues (not fault of phone, just personal preference) but on the other hand, lack of ability to unlock bootloader will kill the community here. Do I keep it, unlock and just roll with it, or do I send it back and get something else (Galaxy Note or S9+ probably, community there aint dead lol)?
Have to have a good think about it over the weekend I think.

Avoid the galaxy unless you like baggage and more rules, if I was to buy another phone it would be the HTC 12, no doubt about it.
Personally I've used the unlock code twrp installed and I'm rooted.
Phones a beast, I personally think Huawei will decide against their decision, by all accounts HTC did the same and look what happened to them
Currently looking at debranding from the L09 to the L29 as updates are more timely. Either that or wait for some ROMs to drop.
I'm keeping it now, it's swayed me.
Although I'd I could get the HTC I'd do it in a heartbeat, epic development on XDA.

Since the phone is treble enabled we can use GSI. So theres no "real" need to have an active development community dedicated for this phone only.

You don't necessarily need to convert from L09 to L29 to get faster updates, you just need to change region from 782 to 432. The L09 & L29 firmwares are interchangeable and are released together but it's UK specific updates that are lagging behind.
Saying that, I don't think there's a way to convert to 432 without being converted to L29 in the process anyway lol
the unlock page is back, just used it... don't tgink will last for long... make sure to be logged with your huawei account

Which version of TWRP did you use? The official one or the non official one? Both have threads in these forums, but the official one seems to have more complaints and problems in its thread.
Thinking of getting unlock code... Does it end warranty? And how do I get product ID, that #*#*1357946*#*# thing did not work. Yes, did try right code, one i wrote here might not be remembered correctly?

You just got the *'s and #'s the wrong way around, it should be:
*#*#1357946#*#*

Like i said, when I tried to get product ID the code was certainly right. To that message i took it out of memory, and did not remember it right. Funny, i can get for example imei code with right "dialer code" but not that product code. How to proceed? Would like to get unlock code, to be on safe side if I some day (probably sooner than later) want to use it.

Got it to work, just needed to make phones original dialer default dialer... And, well, knowing me, I'm just moments away from unlocking bootloader and rooting

Keep hold of the bootloader unlock code you got as if they go ahead with removing the service, they're likely to release updates in the future that will relock unlocked bootloaders on install. You should be able to re-unlock with the same code but it's a pain as an update won't wipe data but then having to re-unlock will ?

There's another site that does them.
Can't recall the name.
Just ordered the P20 Pro today after I upgraded my partners one yesterday to the P20. Its looks a fantastic phone so I had to go one better and get the pro. I got the unlock code for hers and will request mine tomorrow. Is there any need to use the unlock code? I don't plan on hoping for a better ROM as the stock one looks pretty reasonable to me.

It is but rooting etc has its benefits, you've only got to go on a few threads here to see that.
Plus who knows what the future holds plus treble is always an option

Question Tradingshenzhen caution!

Finally Xiaomi 12S Ultra Arrived.
To my surprise I noticed a quite a few fingerprints on the camera. Anyway, maybe it was a pre purchase inspection I tought.
The I noticed some dirt inside the speakers... hmm I this a used phone?
Anyway I proceeded to set it up and see what all the fuss is about with the camera.
Going troughs initial set up steps, I get a message. " This phone was previously factory reset" Please use your Mi account or Gmail account associated with this device to unlock it!!
So basically TRADINGSHENZHEN set an expesive and used piece of worthless brick!
Currently awaiting their reply.. I honestly expected more then this crowed, but really Chinese are just not trustworthy.. Be carefull out there!!

No I didnt. Order a standard CN rom
See the condition. Also it contains a blue screen cover and the outer clear case has been used and greasy
Not normal, surely a phone that has been returned.
And I just powered the phone in fastboot and TWRP is already installed>

Yet this company provides and is well rated, nothing to do with Ali.
Surely a mistake on their part.
Is there even a way to unlock the phone if associated with a different google account?

Don't bother with that, send it back.
Maybe this phone has a problem, if you keep it will be your problem, don't bother.
I had exactly the same thing when I bought the thing in Singapore. But somehow I managed to log into my gmail account and set it up.
There were still issues though, unable to sideload apps. I couldn't take it back as I don't live in singapore though. So I did a new factory reset, and all was good. Got the 'setup your new phone screen' . And all was perfect afterwards. On CN rom.
I guess they login before they sell it to install play store....
Good luck!
if you ordered a version with eu flashed it will have twrp and the rom flashed.
You could ask for a sealed box when purchasing.
but they are usually careful with that.
i've been buying there for ages and never got any issues.

Thats the thing. I specifically ordered for CN version in the check box.
But this phone is 100% used. You can tell by all the dust inside the speaker vents and also the clear case is covered in greasy finger prints and wipe marks.
Still no reply from TradingShenzhen tho..
This company does not reply whatsoever! I will now start a credit card fraud proceedings and I will do a YT video and review them on trust pilot.Over €1000 is not small amount to be taken the piss!
Careful who you buy your phones off
TradingShenzhen responded: engineering error they check all their devices before dispatch.
Advised to do a fastboot FRP removal which erases the google account lock. This did the trick and the phone is now working!
But::!! This phone is a used phone.
Its had its firmware tampered with, despite the fact I ordered a new CN version and to top it off, the phone had already 37 Battery Cycle. This was a cleary used phone!

Im awaiting a reply. Since they have a fairly good reviews Im giving them a benefit of doubt. Generally speaking you only get to know how good of a company they are when they resolve your problems.

Someone tried to cover up a mistake he did by replacing a new one with his.
I wouldn't blame the entire company for this as "chinese are not thrustworthy" :| gotta be an amazing douche to say that.
I know some famous platform in China are selling at a much lower price than from Official Xiaomi. The reason is that they would resell the returned or fake product. Your case is quite common in China and there is a chance that you are not lucky and get a used phone if you buy from those stores online. In China you can always return the product within 7 days with no reason if you buy from those platforms so those phones that are returned might be resell again as a new one if they look new or not activated, or for whatever reason. My recommendation is to buy from Xiaomi authorized stores online in those platform. I got my 12su from JD platform and the price is the same as the one written in Xiaomi official website since it is equivalent to buying from xiaomi.com. I suspect that tradingshenzhen is one of those stores that sell at lower price in china while they sell at a much higher price in internatinal market.
