Hardbricked Pixel - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Had a hardbrick happen on my Google Pixel yesterday; I was typing a message and the phone rebooted, started normally, then within a minute it did it again and then 1 more time and it never turned back on. Connecting it to a PC, it shows up as infamous QUSB_BULK. Does anyone have or have knowledge of the eMMC files and software required in order to reflash the bootloader or whatever is required to be able to flash Android back onto it?
Any help is much appreciated!

I think it is possible with qfil flash tool. The problem is getting the right files.

I have the software, but not the files required unfortunately. They don't seem to exist on the open web.

I have spent hours looking for the right files to unbrick a Qualcomm phone. Found most but not all.

Yes, but they are different for each Qualcomm phone. I found a big stash of random ones but I searched for a few days and can't find files for Google Pixel...
I suspect it might be a failed flash IC but I cannot confirm without trying to flash it.

I know, that's the problem. I have thought about getting an octoplus box....

And this device has files to flash them?

Strange efs/imei problem, wont flash to stock

so I have a SR I just put a new (used, off ebay but new to me) motherboard in, and it works fine except for no imei/baseband, so obviously no data/voice/etc.
the efs folder seems to be fine...imei folder is in there, keystr file is there...I don't understand what the problem is.
the worst part is, only certain roms will flash...I cannot flash to stock, I've tried with odin and from recovery, a couple different stock versions of GB, ICS, and still no luck. It actually flashes, then does the "android is upgrading" screen, but then bootloops on the optimizing apps part. I've tried to flash to stock probably 20 times now, wiped everything, fixed permissions, etc...without fail it bootloops every time.
the only roms Ive gotten to flash are slim and jedi...no stock rom will flash, nor avatar and a couple others I've tried. but slim and jedi flash and boot right up...just have blank imei/baseband.
I've scoured threads for days trying to figure out what to do here...nobody seems to have my exact problem, and everything I've found about restoring efs/imei/baseband has involved flashing to stock...which I can't do.
anyone have any ideas?
Have you tried flashing different radios (baseband)?

Take a look at this thread, it may help. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25172599#post25172599
thanks for the replies...
I've flashed UCM1 and UCLL3 radios, they flash fine but no change...still can't flash to stock and no imei/baseband/service.
That fix thread was one of the first I found, but as I still have my keystr file in the efs folder, I didn't think it would apply to me...I suppose I could make an external backup of my efs, delete it and try one of those methods from scratch.
read through the restore to stock sticky http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398 and go through the trouble shooting sections, if that doesn't help u could have bad hw

Hey, Im facing the exact same problem! just that my imei turned to 0 and basband to unknown after i upgraded to cynogenmod 10.1-rc.2.
It was working fine till suddenly one day i lost network. I tried everything like you did. So far ive had no luck fixing my efs!
What you can do is download QTPS and in it there is a RF NV Item manager to rewrite your efs. For that you need to put you phone into DIAG mode unfortuantely i cant get to that on 10.1nightly cynogenmod that im using.
I m stuck. I know for sure flashing roms or radios wont help at all. the same boot loop problem happens when I flash using odin, it use to work perfectly fine earlier.
Some how the nv_data.bin and such files are missing from my efs>imei folder that contain the imei data.
If you find something please lemme know too [email protected]

will do.
also, you may know this already, but just in case, be aware the skyrocket doesn't use nv_data.bin...I thought it did too when I first started searching around about this, and when i couldnt find it I was pretty freaked out...but then i found out the skyrocket actually uses 3 encrypted partitions rather than a nv_data file. so if you have at least some files in your efs/imei folder you may be in a better spot than it seems. of course if its totally empty, you'll likely have a lot more work to do.
I'll update if I have any luck.

Yes I have two files in my imei folder i,e keystr and mps_code.dat!
I tired changing them from root explorer! pasted someones else's efs folder! but still I cant fix my imei is stays 0.
i donno how to get to diag mode with this rom, otherwise i could have tried my luck with QPTS.
Incase you have broken your imei without backing it up, there is another way. And yes it is legal.
Here's the tutorial http://goo.gl/wtW29 and here's the needed tools (software & hardware) http://goo.gl/54mtk.

I actually have octopus box as well as the z3x samsung tool installed, however, they're both server activation based...the software is useless without an $89 (octopus) to $120( (z3x) activation.
I'd rather not spend that kind of money for something I'll likely only need once, so I'm gonna do as much as I can in the way of free solutions, and if I have no luck there I'll probably just send it to mobiletechvideos for their $40 efs/imei repair. I'm guessing they use one or more of these repair box programs themselves anyway, and will do the same job for only $40.
thanks for the suggestion anyway though..

There's this polish guy who probably also has all the same boxes and he takes €10 for imei repair by remote desktop.

And finally you could try helping the op of this thread to add compatibility for skyrocket, this would be free.

Isn't there any way to fix my imei on my own ?
Mt efs folder also looks good now with all the files it should have but still the imei remains unaffected.
Also i'd like to know that the qualcom nv tool showed my esn as dead and mied as 000....000 does the dead thing mean it isnt repairable ?
I tried using QPTS but this is where I get stuck.. (img attatched)

Obviously there is since some random polack can do it for you on his PC, the problem is the lack of knowledge.

People want money for it because it's mostly used for making stolen phones work again.
That means real life risks like fines, jail etc.
Of course there are lots of examples when people experiment with this or that and delete their imei accidentally, or want to change the imei for some other reason. But these are more rare.
An update...
I managed to finally get flashed to stock...still null/null imei & baseband unknown. Efs folder is still there with files, keystr file is on...not sure what else I can do myself at this point so, I guess its time for the Polish dude or mobiletechvideos.

unfortunately not for me. I finally got the polish dude to try restoring the imei remotely...he used like 3 or 4 different programs, nothing worked.
so, i just got a broken SR with a cracked lcd off ebay for $50 and used the motherboard from it.

Ohkies.
Did you ask the polish guy about the reason why he was not able to fix your mobile. Coz, I'm just having similar problem like yours. I tried working with all the local samsung service centre guys, nothing worked. One guy said that my mobile IMEI is locked in some database, so it is not picking or detecting my SIM, hence locked. I know that my mobile is unlocked and is valid, I ignored his comments.
I assume you changed your MotherBoard of the mobile with the new cracked SR's, so that it could take new IMEI instilled in new board. Is it so?
Also, please suggest me about any alternatives on how to fix this problem.:crying:

lg optimus zone 3 lgvs425pp stock firmware dump

hopefully this will help out some people and the developers to make, fix, restore a not so popular phone. I did a total firmware dump and have uploaded to my 4shared folder. If anyone is interested or can tell me how to upload it here for developing i will be more than happy to share with those in need. I also have a spare phone that i would be willing to test anything made from the firmware dump i created.
PLEASE link?
Some time after rooting my Optimus Zone 3 VS425PP, I got locked into a boot loop. There are no custom ROM's, neither recovery nor OS. It's not bricked. Yet, anyway. The loading screen functions, then a little window that says "OPTIMIZING APPS 1 OF 5, PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THE BATTERY..." appears. I've seen this before, but now, upon reaching "APP 5 OF 5," it reboots and repeats. I've tried several factory resets via the LG RECOVERY (MODIFIED,) as well as safe mode to no avail. Anyone? Anything? Help? The only recourse I can think of would be to re-flash the stock ROM, which I cannot find. Anywhere. Thanks, guys.
i tried contacting judthro for the same file; no luck

Unfortunately, I don't think this file is actually out there. I have REALLY been looking, even contacted the LG Development team. The LG Support Tool, etc. are not going to help you yet as they do not have the firmware on their servers yet. That's why the LG Support Tool will freeze when trying to do an Update Recovery on this phone. -- And I've tried them all: LG Mobile Support Tool, LG PC Suite, Verizon VS425PP Update Tool (from the mounted drive on the phone), LG Flash Tool 2014 to force different KDZ files. All provide nothing. All dead ends. The Optimus won't grab a COM unless it is the right signed firmware for the phone. You'll just sit there in Download Mode or in Debug mode forever with no result. We have to wait for the first update from LG from version VS425PP1 to whatever comes next so they have something to stick on their server. But...if you find something before then, please let me know! The update will eventually be released to the public. It'll probably just take a year or so.
Good thing is Wal-Mart sells these for under $12 (yes, that's right). I picked up seven of these quad-core bad boys at that deal. Just bugs the hell out of me I can't fix the one I over rooted.
this *might* be promising...

hopefully the op will chime in for insight. The 999MB isn't much good. It appears to be a RAR dump of all the partitions, perhaps made from a lglaf.py script while in download. Nevertheless, i havent found any way yet to push the firmware dump onto the phone.
I've had no luck, either.

Meanwhile, as my LG cycles endlessly through my really cool "Jolly Roger" boot animation, I stumbled across a Kyocera Hydro Wave at Walmart for $20. I snapped it up to replace the LG Optimus Zone 3. I had big plans to root it, too., but I should've researched it first. The specs are great... but one check on Cyanogen's website probably would've saved me some trouble. Not one Kyocera device is listed there. XDA thread also throws red flags-no one can get root to stick. Well, I at least learned a lesson. Next time, I plan to purposefully buy a phone that can be rooted, has been rooted, has instructions online to do so, AND has at least one custom ROM available! No wonder this thing was $20! Keep us all posted if you stumble across a bootloop fix of some kind, and I'll do the same.

Either I am unable to open that link from an Android device OR the link given is to an unshared folder? It just asks me to log in and then says 'that folder does not exist in your DropBox...' PLEASE check out the SHARE link from within your DropBox and maybe share a new folder (and drop the stock ROM in there, along with what you might've used to flash it maybe?) We'd be very grateful!

To all who have a bricked, phone this phone has an update. Download the LG software assistant and put assistant in repair mode then boot phone normally and wait a bit. Run the repair assistant and let it run. Hopefully if everything runs well as it did me. Mine is restored and running.
Just ordered one. Is there root for this phone? Unlocked bootloader or forgetaboutit?
I rooted this phone and then tried to de-bloat, but I must have deleted too much. Now when I boot all I get is "Security Error - Authentication Fail #9"
I can get to Download mode, but none of the recovery programs recognize the phone. I installed the drivers, but still nothing. Is there anything I can do?

Here is a step by step guide on how to flash the stock rom with QFIL and by extension any image.
Download and install the Qualcomm drivers from here
Download the firmware from above
Extract the firmware to a folder that you can easily access them from like your desktop
Download and install QPST from here
Open the QFIL application (Find it in your start menu)
In the "Select Build Type" field select Flat Build
In the "Select Programmer" field navigate to the folder you extracted the firmware and support files to and select the prog_emmc_firehose_8917.mbn file
Select the "Load XML" button and navigate to the folder you extracted the firmware and support files to and select the rawprogram0.xml and then the patch0.xml when prompted.
Plug in your tablet
Run the following adb command "adb reboot edl" (Now the screen should be blank but the led light should be red)
If the text at the top of the QFIL application says "No Port Available" click the "Select Port..." option and pick your device. If your device isn't showing up there you didn't install the drivers properly.
Click the Download Button to begin flashing your device

Just a heads-up: even if you found the files for the A0722, you'd brick your R2 if you managed to flash them. The chassis and screen seem to be the same, but they're completely different specs-wise. Given that the A0722 has a different SoC and an eMMC chip 2-4x larger, I doubt you'd get real far in the flashing process in the first place.

In my case my main goal was to use it and the factory software to learn about mbn files. I've dealt with LG's TOT and KDZ files but not the mbn's. Thanks for giving folks the warning though.
Would it be possible for someone to grab the download URL for whatever OTA update is available for the device? I don't think it's anything major but I'd like to poke around at it; the firmware uploaded here seems to be from launch.

I've got a logcat recorder queued up to be installed and will try to grab an url by starting the download. If that fails there are a couple of alternatives....someone who has DONE the upgrade could rip the rom and make it available if @deadman96385 can point to some instructions on how to rip the rom.
Also you can always let your own upgrade occur because he's already provided the original software and QFIL which would let you restore to original factory and get the update again.
As a last resort I can grab the log from my ROUTER that the phone is connected to and try to get the url that way which I've had to do with SOME devices.
I'll probably end up taking the OTA again anyways as I've been messing around with the firmware from the first post. Honestly, I'd really recommend staying away from flashing it without a good reason. Even when the flasher works, either the logging and/or the flasher hangs and it's close to impossible to tell which without unplugging your phone. If a partial flash leaves you in a state where you can't get to ADB to boot to EDL mode, you'll have to boot into diagnostics mode, use a piece of Chinese software to boot from there back to EDL, and within five seconds or so, close that software and start the flashing process from QFIL before the com port stops responding to requests, leaving you to reboot the phone and start again.
I've been trying to get non-LTE networks and calling working, but it's entirely impossible to tell whether my tweaks are having unintended side effects or if the flashing just crapped out partway through, even when I'm just flashing single partitions.

When you say official ROM, do you mean a stock ROM ripped and put on the internet, or a custom ROM used for customization? Does anything pop-up on the screen when you press the power button (i.e. battery indicator)?

I meant a stock ROM on the internet. Nothing shows up at all, tried to charge the phone and there's no sign, and then tried to get into the recovery mode using power off and volume up + down buttons and nothing happens at all. I'm afraid that my phone could be completely damaged :crying:

It sounds like your phone may be "bricked". This happens when you load a faulty recovery image onto your device, whether it's incompatible with your device, or a bad recovery. Don't fret, though, as this is sometimes fixable. A simple google search for how to unbrick an Android device delivers a wealth of results, but sometimes a device-specific search may be more relevant to your situation. Best of luck! :good:

Well i searched in Google and unfortunately it seems like my phone is hard bricked. However, I'm going to send it to a repair center and see what's going to happen but i feel like i most likely will end up needing to buy a new phone. Thanks anyways!

Somehow, what you flashed must not have been for your specific device. Flashing stuff that wasn't made for your specific device is the fastest way to hard-brick a device.
From what you posted in your first post, the file that you downloaded and flashed looks like it should be the correct firmware for your device. But, since you didn't download it from the official site for your device, the file that you downloaded may have been modified before it was posted at the place that you downloaded it from or maybe your downloaded file got corrupted or didn't download completely. A corrupted/incomplete file could result in a hard-brick.
Another thing that could have gone wrong is a faulty connection between your device and PC during the flashing process. Or maybe the battery died during flashing or during first boot. This can also cause a brick.
You might be able to repair the device yourself by replacing the motherboard. It could be cheaper than buying a new device or cheaper than the cost of repairs at a shop. Try finding a YouTube video that demonstrates how to disassemble your device to replace the motherboard. You will have to be certain that you are buying the correct motherboard for your specific device model number. After replacing the motherboard, you will have to make certain that you have the correct official firmware file and then flash that firmware onto the new motherboard.

Thanks for you reply.
Yesterday i went to a few local repair shops and one of technicians connected my phone to a charger where you get a light if your device is connected and working properly, then he told me that it's getting enough amps(ampere) to work well but it's probably going to need a software, unfortunately, they couldn't help me, as they don't have the required software for my device (Philips) and they advised me to visit the manufacturer's service center in order to solve this issue.
What I've noticed is that when i connect my phone to my laptop, i can still hear a sound like the one you get when you connect a USB to your laptop, so maybe it's not a hardware issue?
I've called my manufacturer's repair center and they mentioned that for any repair-related issues, it's going to take 3 working days to fix any issue (due to their policy). However, I'm afraid of having my data spied on/accessed if i left my phone over there and I'm really confused whether to buy a new one or just leave it to get fixed.
P.S To everyone who is trying to help me, i do really appreciate it

Bricked V450 sprint attempting to unlock bootloader

I was following a guide on unlocking the bootloader and rooting my v450 device, this was using QFIL to load the abl_a and abl_b files but made a mistake and accidentally loaded the file to the MPT partition on the device. I made a backup of the abl_a partition but not of any other partitions.
Now the device gets stuck on the LG V50 boot screen and I can't get it to boot into any mode other than EFL.
One way I feel might work is by obtaining a backup of the MPT file, if this is correct does anyone know where I can find this,
Does anyone know whether this is something I can fix or if the phone is dead, any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
The phone is not necessarily dead!
Search google for your models QFIL dump, I found someone has uploaded a set of files for the Sprint 450. Download all, or the file you need and write using QFIL. I would download all and replace with all. Just in case there is a miss-match across versions, for example you might have one date version of boot and a different one for the MPT.
It is very difficult to fully break any android phone, time and effort will find you a solution. I broke mine for a short time trying to do the same process and ultimately fixed by trying a whole bunch of troubleshooting before I found what I needed to do.
In your case if you can find a set of files online and write each partition one by one, I think you will be good. Of course you will have to restart the whole process of bootloader changes if you want that.
Good luck

This worked, I manually replaced every partition and the phone is working now. thank you so much, I probably wouldn't have tried this without the info you provided.

Glad I could help!
Tell me, in the dump that is uploaded there are files rawprogram0.xml, rawprogram1.xml, etc. How to flash them?
