OP7 locked bootloader! - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

When will we know if Op7 pro has an unlocked bootloader?... I mean Oneplus is still chinese ..like Huawei.. and they locked it after a while.
sorry for click-baity title but want to know if I should risk buying it the first day and then find out later I will never be able to flash anything..or should I wait (and how long) to see if its unlockable.. ?

My 6t was unlockable. Don't think they will lock it down. But don't buy the us versions, the us locks down bootloader ex Samsung phones just like the T-Mobile 6t. If you buy the international varient, should be unlockable

I think better said is don't buy carrier versions. The unlockable bootloader is still a big selling point to its OP's core audience.

Not exactly true I'm running the TMobile variant 6T just rebranded to OOS to unlock the bootloader. But if it's anything like the T-Mobile 6T as long as you can get the phone Sim unlocked you can bootloader unlock it

I'm aware of the tool that came out. Who wants to do all that?

If I where you, I think i would just get the international one to avoid carrier related lockdowns.

I'm sure that the developers here will attempt the same process with T-Mobile's 7 pro like was done with the T-Mobile's 6T and try to find a way to unlock the bootloader. Me personally, I was so content with T-Mobile's version that I stayed away from the section for a few months.

When ordering on the canadian site, will that version be bootloader unlockable?

I unlocked my 6T after talking with reps. They agreed to unlock my SIM after I made two installments, for a total of around $83, only a couple weeks after getting my phone. It was well worth it, and went towards the phone, anyway!

Likelyhood bootloader 6t

I wonder what the likelyhood that oneplus 6t will have a locked bootloader if I get it from tmobile. I know you can get the unlocked version directly from oneplus.
I read somewhere that the bootloader will be locked until your're done paying off the phone. Then they will unlock the bootloader.

Unfortunately yes :/ just read it I think on the T-Mobile news app. Could have been from XDA though. I guess you can get it unlocked once you pay off half the phone.
I am on jump on demand, so I was ready to jump all over this! Tired of the lock bootloaders on my Samsung phones. I've had Samsung from the Galaxy 5 all the way up to the 9 obviously all snapdragon and all the "notes" in between. There's some awesome developers on here but no one has been able to unlock the bootloader I believe since Galaxy 6 :/
The jump on demand program is great since I like having the latest and greatest without having to Shell out the cash. Also the T-Mobile 6t version won't be a dual SIM card either.
Anyone please chime in and tell me something different .. haven't been rooted for a while, hopefully I missed something.
I have a T-Mo mobile and I confirm it's locked
Go to Tmobile and buy the phone outright or if on a plan, pay it off.
OR
Don't buy the Tmobile branded OP6

OnePlus8 VZW Bootloader is Not Unlockable

Has anyone seen any difference in the bootloader, unlocking, rootability on the Verizon Version of the OnePlus 8. Anything in coding that speaks to a lock out from Big Red?
I heard about sign up and IMEI issues with the direct OnePlus buys although it seems the IMEI issue came across from the Verizon branded ones as well.
Thanks in advance for feedback!!!
Edit.... At this time OEM Unlock is Non-existent in the DEV Settings and Fastboot CMD does not Allow unlocking of the bootloader. Thanks All!!!

I hope that this thread gets some attention or there will be low sales for the Verizon version for root and custom ROM users.
Well if the 8 pro is anything like the 7 pro the bootloader unlock was really easy. There is a statement on DroidLife, com they are talking about unlocked OnePlus 8 phones and Verizon but it was yesterday and it might be fixed by now or real soon.
I have the T-Mobile oneplus 8 I could not network unlock my device not because I am on eip but because my phone is not showing up in their database... they questioned if I even got it through them, I gave them my order number and my IMEI and it was not coming up in their system

Same from the reports on VZW. Just wondering how that worked out with the device hardware modifications (assuming there actually are any. Think I may give it a whirl and return if its locked up.
I bought one from straight from oneplus themselves and even though I hadn't even inserted a SIM card yet, I couldn't unlock the bootloader (inserting one didn't change anything). I don't think this is specific to verizon, or perhaps somethings up. Anyone know what's going on? It's an IN21AA
Whatever... I'll bite the bullet. Just ordered one 5 minutes ago and I'll get it on the 6th. Let's see where we end up.
I won't be ordering one if the bootloader can not be unlocked any status updates would be great. The money off with a trade in for the Verizon one is hard to pass up then again the Oneplus Z is coming very soon and with a snapdragon 765G same chip the pixel 5 is rumored to have? move over pixel 4a screwed again.

I feel like this may be a bug or something else is up with certain models, Oneplus isn't exactly known for keeping everything locked after all.

For the unlocked models from oneplus I agree it's probably a bug. But the VZW branded 8 5G I don't think it is. Pixels even have a different bootloader than the unlocked ones and can't be unlocked if bought from Verizon. Maybe oneplus fought this but who knows Verizon has a lot of pull.

I know it's unlockable. But even people buying direct are having issues with the unlocked phones. If there is a way to unlock the bootloader like the VZW pixel keep the sim out turn it on use WiFi and maybe OEM unlocking isn't greyed out. But VZW will patch that real quick like they did with the pixels. I have a OnePlus 7 pro I have no problem waiting for the 8T or even the Z it's not much of an upgrade anyway the trade in deal was kinda hard to pass up when OnePlus trade in program doesn't give enough money at all. The VZW one was taking even pixel 2s which I have lying around so it was worth it.

Then I'd try a factory reset. There's no way the unlocked version won't let you unlock the bootloader. No chance. Mine was greyed out till I put a sim in and rebooted on my 8 Pro. and you can always return or exchange or get a refund ??
I read on DroidLife that the unlocked 8 and 8 pro are now certified on Verizon maybe people should work with the reps. to get the problem worked out. If the 8 pro is anything like the 7 pro it's going to be easy to unlock just use ADB.
So that's a definite? OnePlus 8 from red can not be bootloader unlocked? Even when paid off. Jus got mine 2day ago an that would blow

I'm not sure what phone you are using now. But I've had the 6, I've got the 7 pro now and both were easy to unlock using ADB and there were both on big red. But right now red had only the 8 pro 5G phone. I talked to a rep online she said was not sure when they were getting the 8 and 8 pro. I read that red was working on certifying unlocked 8 pro from oneplus but they also said it could be June. Let's hope it's sooner. Now I did have trouble with the 7 pro to get it to work on Verizon so I went to Verizon and they got it up and running. It was just a a couple of switches on there side.

Verizon note 20 ultra root??

Well Yes apparently from what this article says:
https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-note-20-ultra-root-us-unlocked-snapdragon-865/
I was going to buy the Note 20 Ultra Exynos to be able to have call recording by changing the CSC to thailand ... but if I can have the snapdragon would be much better... Can anyone that has used that share their experience with this service? I would pay $150 to have the call recording. Even if don't want the LIMITATIONS of rooting but would prefer to have the better Battery life of the snapdragon... This seems like the only way to get call recording on a snapdragon phone... Can someone help with more info on this?

So are the unlocked versions on Amazon actually bootloader unlocked or just carrier unlocked? How would you install TWRP and root? I'm talking about ones like these:

You can root the VZW Note 20 Ultra. Look on XDA Labs for the Galaxy Bootloader Unlock. It does cost money to do it but it does work.

Just carrier unlocked.

T-mobile Oneplus 8 carrier unlock and bootloader unlock question.

I just got a Tmobile Oneplus 8 from a local sale, went straight to XDA for guide on how to sim unlock/bootloader unlock but couldn't find any solid response so I figured I asked. It looks like mobdeep or so (spelling error) could sim unlock and allow bootloader unlock for the device but he is pausing his service? Is that the only way for now? I mean my fiance has t-mobile but I doubt she would want to use my oneplus 8 for 40 days then call in and attempt for an unlock? Do I have to wait until mobdeep resume his service?
I have Tmobile service through a prepaid so I can't call in myself bc it's not an official tmobile account. If someone can guide me that will be awesome. Thanks again!

Edit:
Answer:
As per the official information, T-Mobile, a US carrier, has started the development of Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 for the several OnePlus devices.
The Android 11 development is in progress for the OnePlus 8, OnePlus 7T, OnePlus 7T Pro, OnePlus 7 Pro, and OnePlus 6T devices.
After the development process, T-Mobile will start the testing Android 11 for the above-listed devices. The whole process may take up to 30 days for a stable rollout.

Question Can I trade in my Verizon variant for an unlocked variant?

I got this as a gift through Verizon website and they don't know a thing about root/unlocked bootloader and they just got me the Verizon version. I'm not even going to try to explain why I want the unlocked version.
Aaannnyyywaaayyy lol. Is there a way I can just swap this out for an unlocked version or a site that does swaps like this? Is there maybe a root option without unlocked bootloader?
Someone suggested to buy the unlocked version and then return it with the Verizon one in the box. Probably not legal or would they even care? Probably won't do it anyway.
If you really want an unlocked one just sell the Verizon one through Swappa or a local marketplace as BNIB. Don't do #3 as they record the IMEI and serial number of the device that they send you. I'd imagine they'd give you an issue with returning the device when those don't match. Plus the whole legality issue.

If your finances allow it grab the unlocked one from the Google Store. BF sale is about to drop so $100 off right out the gate. If you open the Verizon one the value will drop.
If it's paid off already call Verizon to carrier unlock it for you maybe by unlocking it you'd be able to root cause I've got the pixel 6 from visible few months ago and i was allowed to rooted and visible has the same variant as Verizon only difference is that visible sells their phones carrier unlocked

Carrier unlocking and bootloader unlocking are distinctly separate. Verizon variants are not bootloader unlockable.

It's controlled by IMEI whitelists. If Visible didn't specify they want OEM Unlocking to be disabled like Verizon does, Google doesn't blacklist the lots they buy.
Unlocked is $150 off on Google Store.
