is there any way to root or install twrp without unlocking your Honor 8's bootloader? - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Can anyone help me, please? I'd like to know if it is a way to root or install twrp without unlocking your bootloader as that service is down now. I think I've read (not carefully) you can do it with a magisk patched boot.img but i am not sure. Please someone help me. Thanks in advance

That wont work as you can not flash the boot img without unlocking the BL.
You can use test point though. Check YouTube or Google for test point

I've read that you can do that by putting your device in "update mode" (power button + volume up button) and i am not sure but i think that requires an unlocked bootloader.

From what i've read around, it is a tool by the creators of DC Unlocker wich aims to recover huawei/honor devices from bootloop. Personally i've never test it and idk if it works or not. For people sometimes works sometimes not.

Look. I was reading through some threads and discovered that you can put your device in flashing mod ( you should press at the same time POWER BUTTON, VOL -, VOL +). So here is my question once again: Can I flash a patched boot.img with magisk using this method in order to root later?

No you can't, you can only flash approved firmware with this method.

You can flash only firmware with update.app extension via this method. This is same as dload.

Need Help. Nexus 5 says google when trying to turn on

I was trying to get the latest twrp '2.8.7.2'. I downloaded it and flashed the img to recovery and nothing seemed to happen so I tried flashing it to boot then I tried to reboot the system. Now when I try to turn it on I get stuck on the Google like it is turning but it just gets stuck. I tried Charging it now when I charge it I get stuck on the battery logo. When I try booting it Booting it into recovery(twrp) I get a black screen. I can tell the Screen is on because of the dim glow it gives off but it is not doing anything. Note: I am some what of a noob when it comes to this stuff, My nexus 5 was running Marshmallow, and I was running the Xtra smooth rom (it is very close to stock). Plz help. I have also just found out that the reason im getting the bootloop is I flashed the wrong version of TWRP need a fix PLZ HELP.

All you have to do is boot into your bootloader (Power + Volume Up + Volume Down at the same time) and flash the stock recovery.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Chances are you flashed an incorrect version of TWRP meant for another phone hence the boot loop.

Can you please explain to me exactly what to do. thank you. also my bootloader is unlocked. I also can get to fastboot so what is the diffrence between bootloader and fastboot.
Hold down the volume +, volume -, and power button. You'll be taken to a screen with the word START at the top. Now, connect the phone to your Windows computer using the USB cable, open a command prompt and type "fastboot flash recovery nameof twrpfile.img", press the enter key, use the volume button to select recovery, use the power button to enter recovery, press the power button, press volume + button, and you should enter TWRP.
Thank you but I do not own a windows computer
Then look up the respective commands. You flashed twrp over your kernel, you need to flash a proper boot.img (kernel) if you want the phone to boot. Fastboot is ran through bootloader. Flash the proper kernel in bootloader using fastboot.

It might not have been working because I did not enable USB Debuging. :crying:
USB debugging is required for adb commands. With fastboot mode, debugging isn't necessary.

I did these :
2. "Fastboot Flash recovery recovery.img" - Flashes stock recovery
3. "fastboot flash system system.img" - Replaces your custom rom with stock rom
4."Fastboot flash boot boot.img" - Flashes boot partition which is need to boot stock rom.
Power and volume keys not worked at all.
It is enough?
Twrp removed. And I can not see device with neither of adb or fastboot.
Thanks.

Installation is correct, it should boot. something is wrong
---------- Post added at 10:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:17 PM ----------
I know it's a bit hard to go to Fastboot mode when the device gets stuck at the Honor logo since there is no way to power it off because we have no removable battery (or you could let the phone battery drain). Still there is a chance to get it to Fastboot mode. When you're stuck at the Honor logo, hold the power button to initiate a forced reboot. Now as soon as device screen goes black immediately hold the volume down button and connect your device to computer via a USB cable. You have 1-3 seconds to do it so it will take several attempts to get success. As soon as your device reaches fast boot, flash a custom recovery and reboot to recovery. If it works tell me.
Hey.. You can do 1 thing.. Download the huawei update extractor.. It will extract the app and give you recovery. Img.... Them flash both recovery and recovery2. Img.. Now you hav the stock recovery.. Now put that app in ext sd dload and wait for it to update . Hope it works. Workd for me

Help.

I am stuck on with eRecovery and fastboot&recovery mode. I have tried flashing cache, recovery, recovery2, system and boot .img files using adb but I get a FAILED (remote: command not allowed). My bootloader is unlocked as I have checked using adb. On fastboot it says PHONE Unlocked and FRP Lock. Any ideas?
as long as your FRP is locked you can not flash anything.
Only way is to use dload method to restore your phone. let me know the model number and build number you were on and I can help with download links.

It should be all three keys together with volume up+volume down pressed first and then power key (together)
Keep it that way and once you feel vibration and then honor logo and flashing will start.
Yours is booting to erecovery because of volume up for more than 3 seconds.
Keep trying your luck brother

It's going to eRecovery with all three buttons pressed (which they all are) because no recovery at all is installed. If twrp was installed and I pressed all three buttons and then let go on the honor logo it would boot to that which is the same method for stock recovery. Without that I can't install using the dload method.

It cost me 15 euros. I used DC Phoenix software to flash the BLN-L21C432B360 update.app with my phone in fastboot mode and connected to my computer. Once it finishes this you boot to updgrade mode whilst still connected to the computer which you do by pressing the volume up, down and power buttons. Once in this mode change the options in the DC Phoenix software to upgrade mode and select the update.app again and click the update button on the DC Phoenix software. It wouldn't work for any of the firmwares except the BLN-L21C432B360 FullOTA-MF-PV firmware. All the others didn't have FullOTA-MF-PV next to them just FullOTA-MF. I'm now on the BLN-L21C432B367 firmware which came up ota once I updated to BLN-L21C432B365 from the BLN-L21C432B360 firmware.

It's not your fault mate. I needed the stock recovery to be installed and I could not flash it with the FRP Lock on. DC Phoenix software allowed me to flash the update.app using fastboot & recovery mode as it bypasses security which cost me 15 euros.

This is how I do mine, click on download, then if the phone is on, shut it down. It doesn't always work but sometimes it does. You have to finish that step before the next.
What version of spflashtool did you download?

Did the progress bar change? If not try unplugging your phone then plugging it back. If that doesn't work, start the phone again and shutdown
By the way what did you try to flash?
I didn't see any bar progress ??*
I want to flash TWRP to install magisk or supersu

Question HELP!!!!

I relocked bootloader and now phone won't boot past bootloader. It's only giving options to "start/ recovery/ restart bootloader/ power off" Phone is getting recognised in fastboot, but since I relocked bootloader I can't flash anything at all. Kindly help me what I can do for this mess. I tried using bootloader lock commands and it's saying bootloader already locked. I'm feeling helpless. Kindly help
First try and enter recovery and see of you can do a factory reset. Can you do that?

Not entering recovery or anything! It's just stuck there. When I turn off and try to restart it again stays the same ie. On bootloader.

I mean can you scroll with the volume up/down buttons to you see Recovery and push the power button to enter recovery like normal? If you can, try doing a factory reset from there. If that's not possible, try doing a RAW firmware install - but check if you can just do a normal reset first..
If adb works just try with
Code:
adb flashing unlock
or
Code:
adb oem unlock
If it doesn't work reboot to bootloader and try again.

Even if I prees button on recovery it against reboots to same place. It's like an example infinite bootloop.

OK. Guessing you've locked the bootloader with a tampered boot.img without flashing stock boot back first. You should be able to use a RAW file to rebuild the firmware (your private stuff will be lost though).

No I've flashed stock boot.img before and flashed afterwards. Can I still flash anything with bootloader locked?

Yes I'm quite sure you should be able to flash a clean firmware with a RAW rom. Use the FTM flashall script.
This probably shouldn't be a how to guide and the title should be something more descriptive than "help"
A how to guide typically includes instructions, like this one:
WARNING: Read BEFORE Locking Bootloader
DO NOT LOCK THE BOOTLOADER WHILE ROOTED! When locking the bootloader while rooted, the boot image will fail verification and the system will fail to boot. You cannot flash a stock boot image with a locked bootloader. Locking the bootloader will...

The good news is that you can still flash a raw firmware with the bootloader locked.

In the future, take the time to look at the guides here before jumping into anything that involves the system or bootloader unless you are absolutely sure you know what you're doing.
