phone for party video recording - General Questions and Answers

Hi guys. So i am trying to buy something with which i can record videos at electronic music parties. I really like the quality that Iphone 7 or 8 make from videos i see on youtube (example of what kind of quality i want is bellow...unfortunately video is removed because its link, but you can write hernan cattaneo budapest 2019 in youtube and see first video). My question is since i dont wanna give out so much for phone, since i am totally satisfied with my Redmi Note 7, except for video and especially sound quality (which is crap on videos), can i get the same quality video and especially sound with a digital camera that i buy for 200, 300 Euros, like i would have with Iphone 8 for example? Or can i just buy some external microphone to get sound like on Iphone or even better)? Thank you for your help and suggestions. Greetings!

If you are buying something for the specific purpose of shooting videos then you need to buy something that is made for that purpose, as in, a digital camera intended for shooting high quality video. When buying electronic hardware, the hardware should always be geared toward the purpose you will be using it for.

[Q] Youtube HQ not really "HQ", why?

So I don't know why but for some odd reason in the youtube app, if HQ is highlighted the audio quality is still feeble, where youre still able to hear grainy audio and "pixel shifting" images.
However when I go to the youtube website in the browser and play an HD video there the audio quality is completely flawless. It's pretty much desktop quality at 480,720 and 1080. Granted the videos wont play well ( expected) but the audio is surreal compared to the app.
I want to know why this is happening. Alot of people havnt been this specific when it came to youtube video qualities but youll find the rare thread that speaks of this exact problem.
Im using the Nexus One and the latest OS. 2.3.4.
When using tubemate, it downloads the grainy version of the video as opposed to the real HQ seen on the website. How do i go around this. Essentially I want to rip the songs from HD versions so I can play it in the car without wasting bandwidth going from one video to another.
When the app says HQ, what is it really talking about. Its nowehere near 480p to the very least. The degradation in the audio quality is noticable both in my car and akg headphones, where my unrestricted 3gs never had this problem. I miss that phone to death.
Well, it's all really a matter of terminology..
HQ stands for High Quality
HD stands for High Definition
While HD is a written standard with rules and guide lines that are needed to be followed, HQ is merely a relative thing. I can say that HQ is 420p cuz in MY service, I also have 180p which I decide to call LQ (L for low) and 320p which I consider as the medium or "normal" quality.
And thus I can also say that HD is like VHQ (Very High Quality) or something.
Hope it's clear enough.

The YouTube app doesn't use flash video at all, unlike most browsers do...The app uses html5 encoding, and that's why it works on pretty much every Android device out there...When you watch YouTube vids on their website, (not the mobile website), you are able to utilize your most recent, best optimized version of Adobe flash....Also why Apple people can use a YouTube app...don't need flash. (Actually a little surprised that Apple HAS a YouTube app, but, after all, the driving force for Google is ad revenue, and I guess the money from all those iphoners couldn't be passed up...)

4K video so disappointing

I've been recording a few 4k clips. I think its pretty pointless A) No OIS , you need a tripod only reall for using it B) Frame rate not 30fps all the time stutters a bit.
Other than that its the most detailed amazing video on my 2560 x 1440p monitor (No 4k monitor yet), but with no OIS its really not practical at all. Or usable. And not to mention the 5 minute clip limit...
Anyone here going to honestly be using it over 1080p? (Unless you carry a tripod) Guess i'm too use to the G2's OIS camera which gives much smoother videos.
Honestly, mostly I just use 720p. In my opinion the 4k function is an marketing trick by Samsung. Well it works but the mainstream market needs a few more years until it's the non+ ultra. It's nice to have but I'm quietly sure I won't use it at all.

Agreed. 100% marketing gimmick. Other than playing with it for a few minutes, doubt I will ever use it again. If it was 4K 30fps with image stabilization yes.
Chaialo says
I was actually thinking of filming a commercial with it. I do have a tripod, slider and a clamp to hold it. I will also be shooting the same scenes in 1080P on my HPX300 just in case.

I wish you guys would quit with the whining.. the camera (from what I have seen) is clearly better than its predecessors or just about anything on the market for a smartphone. Samsung has clearly improved this phone in every way, its by far the best phone on the market. No other phone can anywhere close to what this phone offers, the features are endless. So stop crying and be happy that you are fortunate to own the best phone on the market. IMO
I don't think that the 4k ability is outstanding but someone has to take the first step. And that the note 3 can handle the bandwidth needed for 4k is enough to wow me right there.(it is very compressed I'd imagine)
And to people saying its a marketing gimmick, isn't the iphones slow mo feature the same? The note 3 can do 720p 120fps just like the iphone but there not hyping it up. 4k is more exciting then watching every video on YouTube in slow mo. If I want to watch slow mo I want to see it at 1000fps with a true slow mo camera.

Uh, 4K is a feature of the snapdragon 800 chipset. Samsung had nothing to do with it. Blame Qualcomm for it being less than desirable.
I imagine xda devs will get around the 5 minute limit soon enough.

I'm so tired of coming to this forum and seeing people constantly complain about things that are either superficial or not mind blowing (etc. speakers not putting out surround sound 7.1, 4k not being worlds better than 1080p).
Keep these negative post in:

Agree Sgt. Beside that I would add permission that people with less of 200 (maybe 100) cant open new threads in general..Only qa.

Sounds great, they should also make it that Samsung fanboys can only start posts too? Fanboys here don't let people express their opinions which is what forums are all about discussions and sometimes there are topics you might not like.
Edit: I've request this thread be lock and buried incase more don't like it

Very interesting indeed. Still haven't bothered capturing at 4k as I don't have a display to do it justice. Might start recording and archive so come the time for a new TV I have some bright sharp memories to view.
I spend a full 20 minutes staring and laughing hysterically at the thread title. Thought it was about photo's, as opposed to video.
Wasn't expecting that from the Note 3, actually. Not bad at all, for such a tiny sensor.
Honestly though, comparing 4K against 1080p? Even if you downsize, that's an unfair comparison as 4K records more data than 1080p at the raw source. It's like shooting in Jpeg directly, or converting a RAWfile to Jpeg. (Which only makes sense if you know photography.)
I am, however, in doubt. An old classmate of mine shoots entire films with his 5D MKIII, and the quality is significantly better than what we're seeing in the video.

I'm sorry but you're wrong, the comparison is as valid as any comparison between 2 devices. It would be like saying you can't compare benchmarks between Note 3 and GS5, because GS 5 has CPU running at higher frequency.
The fact is Note 3 can record 4k video out of the box and can record higher resolution, sharper video, than any DSLR currently on the market, period. Of course those were done in full sun/ good light, in low light Canon would win hands down. You could also see blown highlights in Note 3 video, but never the less our phone has excellent video recording capabilities I bet a lot of people are not even aware off and you have to remember Canon 5D mark III has probably one of the best video recording capabilities among DSLR and was used in quiet few commercial video recordings you see on TV. Even thought some people dismiss this as useless gimmick, it was one of the reasons I got Note 3 and I record all video in 4k, mostly of my kids, for the future memories. Right now none of my computers can play 4k video smoothly and I don't even have 4k display yet, but all this will be rectified before end of this year. Funny thing is, it is Samsung pushing the envelope, where the hell is Sony, commercial and consumer video leader?
arhhh the Pixel Myth.... Just like the Megahertz Myth! Bigger numbers doesn't always mean better. The N3 is a complete waste of time in low light despite being able to record @ 4k. I'd like to have seen the guy walking around (camera movement) with both devices as this would have shown which device was better when watching both playbacks.

Apparently you didn't see the video comparison, which clearly shows Note 3 video is much sharper, even on low resolution screen and apparently you never looked at benchmarks, clearly showing that everything else being equal, phone running at higher GHz will run faster most of the time, otherwise you wouldn't call it a myth. As far as low light goes, every camera sucks, it just a matter of how little is not enough. Canon 5d has full size sensor, which is almost as big as half width of the phone and this size sensor could not be fitted in a small phone and forget about optics required, never the less, with huge handicap in sensor size, much, much lower price and basic optics, Note 3 is competitive in good light. In low light it is much worse, but if you ever went to the movie set, just about half of the equipment is lights to improve exposure and they have cameras costing more than most people house, so yeah, good light is required for all cameras if you want good video.

Audio Recording - distortion free?

Hey Guys,
I am not -yet- an owner, but I was when M7 hit the stores and that phone was able to record some amazing audio - Distortion Free even from Loud Bass.
My question is, is the U11 anywhere near to that quality? I am really looking for someone who can record some concerts or any loud music....
thanks in advance

This is probably the best place to ask for now or the equivalent in your area.

I've been looking for an android phone capable of this since the m7. No luck yet. Although I haven't tried the v10 or v20. Lg has too many issues for me tho

They are not allowed to give out such technical information. I tried this with the M10 already and they said, its a really good mic, but could not confirm nor deny that its a HDR Mic
Sooooo I am waiting for users

Yeah, I know the feeling. This is why I kept my 950XL Microsoft (besides the Windows OP, its good) which has 4 mics and HAAC/HDR without distortion... yeah... we will see how HTC 11 performs
Sadly it distorts a lot! Had the m7, m8 and m9 plus. They were all great at audio recording. But the u11 is a huge disappointment in this department.
I play in clubs a lot and liked using my previous htc phones to film my band. People would always ask what kind of phone I was using because the audio was so good. Now, most videos are useless or GOOD when the bass is not too loud.
Tried HIGH RES audio and that doesn't improve the overall quality and oddly using this setting will get the video to be saved in MKV, instead of mp4. If you try sharing the mkv video through whatsapp, it will replace the audio with hiss. Tried solving this with no success. So now I use 3D audio and keep my fingers crossed everytime.
It's a huge disappointment because this was a main concern for me when looking for a replacement for the m9+.
The only phone I can't think of that has a great video/audio capture quality combo is the Iphone 8 Plus, which was the one I was going to buy before deciding for the u11.

Hey thank you for the review are there any other modern phones which are capable of recording bass? How are the Sony phones xz premium XZ1 and so on when recording bass?

General Early Video & Picture Review of the Pixel 7 Pro

There is already a "short" review about the video and picture capabilities of the P7 Pro out (videos and pics can be seen in the video). It's made by an AT&T employee who used the device from his shop for his YouTube channel.
He seems to be thrilled by the picture quality "finally we have the old point and shoot back again" and calls the video camera a massive improvement, to put it on par with the IPhones.
It was also noted that setting up the Fingerprint scanner worked without any hitches. It just worked.
Sounds promising.
Google has been way, way behind the competition in video. I would love for them to lead or be near the top on video and pictures with their AI engine. I hope this makes the phone better.
Also, please tell me next year they will actually charge at 65 W or higher.

65W charging is unlikely. Google would have to license fast charging tech from another company and that's $$$. They may be able to get Samsung's tech since they use Samsung SoCs but that maxes at 45W.

Iphones may not be your cup of tea just as they aren't mine but to say iPhone videos, which is what the original post was referring to, suck is just pure hate. They are widely regarded as having the some of, if not the best video recording quality in a phone. Pull up any review and you'll see iPhone video capabilities are the gold standard when comparing it against other phones so the fact that the Pixel 7 is even somewhat comparable after how poor they've performed in the past is encouraging
