Samsung Gear S3 and Mi Mix 3 - Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Questions & Answers

Hey Guys!
I'm at the brink of a nervous breakdown right now, since I've been trying to solve this in my own for hours now, with no success whatsoever, so I decided to look here for help.
I've recently updated my Mi Mix 2 to a Mi Mix 3 and thus far, I'm loving it, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to properly get my Gear S3 up and running. The Watch is connected and everything that is initially in the box is working fine. I just want to reinstall the watchface I had, when using it with the Mi Mix 2 and the timer App (that for some reason Samsung decided was not part of the "out of the box experience" anymore). In order to do that I have to sign in to my Samsung Account and herein lies the problem: I can't. When I click on the "Sign in" Button a white box appears in which you'd usually expect to find input fields for user, password and a captcha, but in my case, the box stays white and that's that.
I should mention that everything used to work perfectly with my Mix 2, but the watch resets when paired with a new phone.
I searched the Internet far and wide, but none of the many suggested solutions did work for me.
I erased Cache and Data for all three required Apps multiple times. Reinstalled them, reset the watch a bunch of times, tried older versions of the wearable app, tweaked permissions and power management setting in every direction possible, played with developer options... nothing. I screwed around for several hours now and I'm finally giving up.
I'm on stock Global ROM btw (the latest version)
Any suggestions are highly appreciated at this point.
Thanks a lot,
Banton

Do you have the Samsung Wear app installed on your device?

Yes, of course I have the wear App installed. Turns out, this is not a Mi Mix related problem after all, it just coincidentally happened to occur when I was switching phones. Meanwhile the Samsung support forums are full with people having the same issue with non-Samsung phones. Thus far no help from Samsung whatsoever.

repair to gear s3
i also have the same issue, but it only start to appear when i flash custom rom and enable dark mode on system UI. So maybe you can try to change sustem UI colors, becouse in my opinion thats the case that make it happend. I also try to solve that issue on my phone and let you know if i find something in this thread

This could related to the theme you're using on your Mix 3. I use a true black theme and some of the popups that come up look like blank white boxes. If you're using a custom theme, try changing it back to default while setting up your watch. That being said, if a bunch of other people are having the issue on other phones this may not be relevant.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys, but it is definitivly not theme related - nor Xiaomi related for that matter. Look over at the Samsung support forums, you will see that hundreds of people have the issue, no matter which phone, or even Android version they are on. (Except Samsung phones because the login procedere works differently).
As of right now, it seems either a software update could fix this, or something on the server side, either way it's Samsung's move.
If anything happens, I'll let you know.

It just randomly started working again. I guess, the ones who could fix the server just were on their easter vacation.

Gear 2 Connect w/ Asus Zenfone 2?

Hi all, I'm fairly new to this but I've been digging all around trying to come up with different methods to get these two to pair.
I have tried installing different gear managers and not a single one has been able to detect my Gear 2, I can connect the two device via my phone's bluetooth setting, but what use is that, the manager is just always lost, scanning for days.
I have gone through quite a few threads, solutions seem so broad and numerous, giving up more hope with each click, thought I might make a thread pertaining to this conflict; I was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction.
Questions:
-Is it required for my phone to be rooted? (Throughout threads i havent been able to tell if it was a requirement)
-How might I connect these two devices?
-Why Samsung? Just why....
Asus Zenfone 2 (5.0)
Samsung Gear 2 (Currently on 0A2)
This is funny, I am having the exact same issue right now. This is a cool watch and I have tried 4 different managers and they do not connect at all. The watch connects via bluetooth but yes its totally useless without a gear manager. Tried all forums and methods but they do not want to communicate. Unfortunate for me I dont want to root the the Zenfone 2 until marshmellow 6.0 comes out for it. Any help on this would be great.

Glad I am not alone on this issue, I don't think I would even mind rooting my phone if it meant getting the two to connect, just because of how easy it can be done on the ZF2, opens up alot of options besides just connecting to the Gear 2, but I did just buy this thing and like you said its a pretty cool watch, I would like to get it somewhat operational T_T
EDIT:
CONNECTED!
Not sure how I came across this tutorial with a WORKING Gear manager, it worked for me and hopefully it works for you as well Shizmac and any1 else who may be experiencing a similar problem.
Just follow these steps, 2nd post on page 26 (thanks to kingakurma):

Edit #2:
Given this fix, now just running into problems with features of the Gear. In the gear app when attempting to send tracks for music player, goproviders crashes, saproviders crashes when trying to access messages settings, also having trouble syncing contacts, messages and all. Time to do some more digging, at least it operational now
hey nine......super kudos for finding that thread and braving the 52 pages to find the fix. I did it last night and it worked flawlessly, with ofcourse the notifications failing due to the saproviders and they are not samsung. I went into the notifications tab in the phone and turned on the gear to receive notifications and those are working well now too. They are just not samsung format, o well cant have everything. I guess the next thing is to find a fix for those notifications and contacts since only like 1/3 contacts came over and to get the samsung notifications back. Regardless, not having a paper weight is awesome. I originally ran across that thread, but after the 1st method did not work, I quickly moved on to the next. I have some slow days at work coming up, so I will be deep in finding a fix for the notifications, thanks for digging that thread up!

Possible malware infection/network attack while using Facebook app

The night of the 17th, I was using the Facebook app while suddenly a download in progress icon appeared in the status bar. I pulled down the notifications screen just in time to catch a glimpse of the word "attackers" followed by a bunch of symbols like $ before it disappeared. I could not find anything in the downloads folder list, ESET premium that was monitoring my phone and all downloads hadn't even detected it, and I tried in vain to search online using only the selected phrases I had managed to glimpse.
Then by sheer luck, today, I managed to find a thread on this problem with the full details. The message had been "attackers on <b>%1$s</b> might atte..." with a download in progress while using Facebook app. Which I assume is completed as "might attempt to steal your information" or something.
I tried using this phrase to search about it on Google, and while nothing specific to this problem came up, a list of generic information results on various types of network attacks, DDos, man in the middle and zero day attacks came up, which has me really worried.
I am still using the phone as is, I really don't know much about technology related things. Please advise me what I should do now, if I should just turn off the phone or something. The person in the other thread said he had reset his phone and the problem had reappeared when he had signed into Facebook again, so now I'm not sure if a simple factory reset will help and I will probably need to install a custom ROM or something.
I'm using Android 7.0 in a Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime. I got a software update to Oreo just an hour earlier and I wonder if updating the software will help remove whatever malware/spyware/hacking application got installed.
Please help, I am logged into all my accounts through this phone and it's already been like 4 days since the message first appeared damage control is needed.
Thank you very much. If you know anything, anything, please let me know it's very urgent.

sounds like the warning message chrome gives. The <b>%1$s</b> is variable for the website name.
https://security.googleblog.com/2015/02/more-protection-from-unwanted-software.html?m=1
found a couple of other mentions of this
see image in following thread, seems like download manager shows warning so must be Facebook downloading something from a suspect url as you say it happens using Facebook. I don't use Facebook app, you say it downloaded something by itself, without you initialising, seems dodgy, but it's a monster app as I recall, must be even bigger white more permission these days!

Ghost in the Machine

Hi guys!
Tried the search but came up with nothing so here goes...
I must admit I'm not very tech savvy but I can follow instructions no worries
I joined mainly because my Samsung Galaxy S8+ (un-rooted) started to behave very strangely early this year.
(and I want to trick it up after warranty expires in August ?)
Short story is that my Samsung account got hacked (or it at least seems like it) and the perp was then able to control my phone remotely. It was incredible watching my phone do as it pleased and all I could do was sit back and watch. Funny thing is that I've never actually toggled the RC switch (find my phone)...
My local carrier (Telstra Bigpond - Australia) account as well as my Google account got taken over shortly after. This would have given whoever it was access to my 3 cloud accounts which add you can appreciate would contain some sensitive material.
Whoever is responsible could well be a member on here so "Hi, there!! "
I pulled my sim and sd card and switched the phone off so I could decide what to do next.
I got a password manager app, changed all passwords (lucky my partner had a spare iPhone 5S sitting around up I could get online) and factory reset the phone.
All seemed to be going well until a few days ago...
I got "timed out" on my Samsung account (is that even possible?!) and while I was putting the password in (on the Samsung website - silly mistake!) just as I hit next I noticed a few dots in a square pattern that did a spinning type of graphic over the password entry box.
Continuing onto the next screen where the two step verification was, which was to send a text to my phone to receive a code and bang! Before I even received the text a six digit code appears in the fill box on the screen (same spinning dots in a square pattern) right before my eyes and then I receive the text afterwards! The numbers matched!!
I’ve also been asked to enter my Google credentials on more than one occasion lately from being “signed out”...
I don't know what to do!
I've tried all of the popular virus type apps and a few file managers to no avail. More like I've been hacked than a virus?
I've removed apps and shut down almost all of them as well as toggling between mobile data and WiFi and restored the phone twice back to earlier backups from over 6 months ago.
I've only ever downloaded from the Play Store apart from just the once getting your better version of the Play Store XDA (LABS) app.
What might be noteworthy is when I was using Google's help function it said that I had a "modified Android" and to contact manufacturer. I can guarantee the phone has never been cracked open.
I can provide screen shots from DevCheck (FLAR2) but I really don't know what I'm looking at. I also don't have any unknown apps etc...
I really don't know what to do next...
Any advice please??
Sorry about the long post.
All the best,
Crackles
Took phone to Samsung and they wiped the device and installed current (Android Pie 9 w. Feb 01 security update) so was looking forward to having a play with the new os until I went to add my Samsung account details...
Entered the password then the 2-step security kicked in to send a text to my number.
The earlier 4 circling dots dropped the 6 digit code into the fill box before I even received the sms! Device (on it's own jumped straight to the remote control button in the Find my Device security section) then attempted to change the password!
Only thing that prevented that from being carried out was I had biometrics activated and stopped the action using my fingerprint.
Seriously no one has any idea on what to do?!
I also had installed a replacement sim card.
I also can't uninstall updates on certain apps like Google Play Services etc, and some apps either have a dead link (press it and nothing happens) or Play Store can't find the app when I hit the downloaded from Play Store thingy at the bottom of the app description page. Hope that makes sense.
As you said, they wiped the phone, which means they most likely flashed the whole firmware, so there's no way for any malware to remain installed. But for what it's worth, you can try to re-flash the firmware yourself using Oding to make sure the whole flash is clean.
If your phone really was infected with any kind of malware, it must have been a 3-rd party app you have (repeatedly) installed. Some apps like Google Play Services cannot be uninstalled because they are vital for system's (or rather apps installed from Play Store) propper functioning.
Also, even if you had infected your device, it would not be able to take control of your device to the extent you described because of app sandboxing, which cannot be broken unless the app constitutes itself as a system app (because every part of the system has to be cryptographically signed, this would break the boot and brick your device) or the user (you) would have to allow the app the necessary permissions to carry out these tasks.
Hey Kernel thanks for the reply ?
Yes I know what I'm saying sounds crazy and even the missus said I was nuts till I showed her.
I can't screen record any more either...
I'm noticing odd little things like when I pull the notifications screen down for a second or so the NFC, Bluetooth and nearby icons are lit up but then revert back to a if they were off. I've switched all of these items off in the settings so are they being sneaky?
So far nothing really bad has happened apart from not being able to put my credentials into the PayPal app. That's using both Last Pass auto-fill and manually entering the email and password. I've un-installed and re-installed many times and it's the same. I'm not going to add any banking apps just yet.
Facebook also got installed in the background about 4 times within a few minutes. Seemed odd to me. I think I've got a screenshot of that.
Malwarebytes found an issue with I'm guessing a theme I got from the Samsung Galaxy Store so I removed it, chose another and it seems OK.
There's still a few odd things happening like certain settings reverting back to something different from what I'd set.
I'll keep tinkering and post anything that stands out.
Is there an app or something that can check every file on my phone and tell if something isn't quite right?
I don't have a pc at the moment but when I do I'll look into Odin.
Thanks again for taking the time I know I sound like a lunatic and tbh I really wish I was haha!!
Hmm interesting...
When I tried to upload the screenshot it stopped and said "bad request"...

Could all this weird bs be happening if the home WiFi has been hijacked?
Sorry for dumb questions.

Whatsapp does the same thing, autocompletes the code, before de sms is coming. This is not a malware. But, don't use password manager... Those can be hacked.
Really my password manager can be hacked?!
I'm using Last Pass.
So moving on I started to poke around the WiFi router and found the PnP enabled and my device was sharing with another device. I did not authorise this. I've since reset the router, changed the pin and access code, disabled the WPS and also factory reset the device that was "sharing" with mine... The owner of said device no longer lives with me. I'm just glad I confiscated the phone from him before he left.
When I'm researching possibilities of what could be going on with my phone the pages won't load. It's like my searches are being monitored and the data is being stopped. I tested this with my partner's phone (on mobile data) and the exact Web pages loaded right up on her's without a hitch! I tried again on mine and they just stopped. Pages would load straight away on mine if searching for something completely different like rc cars or bmx related content. Stuff to do with my phone just won't work ffs!
Like when I tried my first post on here. It simply would not post it up! I ended up having to copy/paste the draft and emailing it to another account that I made up on the spot on her phone. Hence the two usernames in this thread.
I got the 3C TOOLBOX app and in the app management section, Task Manager under service many of them are "custom entries" and I cannot un-tick, modify or reset back to the original version of any of these apps. Google Play Services was the worst. Pretty much every thing it was capable of doing had a "custom action" and I could not do anything with it.
Am I doing something wrong or do I have a serious invasion of my phone..?
Thinking about smashing this thing to bits and getting an S10+ ??
Also the Bluetooth, NFC & Nearby buttons almost any me of the day/night are on for a split second when I drag the motivation panel down. These are all set to "OFF" in settings...
What
The
F--k?!?!?!

Anyone else having notification issues for 4 years now?

Before November/December 2015 I used to get notifications instantly. Then it suddenly stopped. Mail notifications would take anywhere from a minute to 40 hours to arrive. I'm not sure if all notifications were affected back then. It was just most noticeable with mail notifications. No rhyme or reason. Just seemingly random. Sometimes they would show up as soon as I turned to screen on or went to Gmail on my PC. But again, completely unpredictable.
Had a 6P back then. Nowadays I'm using a Mi MIX 2S with either MIUI or Lineage. Yet the problem still persists. Literally nothing is the same anymore except my Google account. Different Smartphone, Wifi, mobile internet, home internet, router, PC, house.
I switched to a Mi MIX 2S last year and nothing changed. Flashing Lineage didn't help either as eBay would sometimes notify me about "soon ending" listings that ended several hours ago. Also opening Hangouts to discover that there's been a message waiting for 3 days is awesome.
It also doesn't matter if you give an app all permissions in the world and place no battery usage restrictions or anything. If you google "android delayed notifications" you can be sure that I tried whatever fix it suggested. This includes countless factory resets that I always do with "setup as new device".
Currently I'm back to MIUI (11.0.4) and notifications seem to have mostly stopped entirely.
Not looking for solutions as there are none. I'm just wondering if that's just how Android is because my mother with a Mi A1 (with her own internet and everything) seems to also get no/delayed notifications. Though I really don't want to make her aware of that.

Google Assistant repeatedly stops working, claiming it's not the default assistant

Hey guys,
I recently bought a Chinese Android car head unit from a pretty random AliExpress seller. The unit is based on a chip that doesn’t have a lot of info about it on the web: AC8257 (Probably some sort of a MediaTek). I know those Chinese units and ROMs can be pretty funky, but this one actually works pretty well, both on the car side and the Android/Google apps side. However, I do have one small, yet very annoying problem that I can’t seem to solve on my own: Google app (Which includes the assistant) did not come preinstalled with the device. I’ve manually installed it from the app store, and until my first reboot, everything seemed to work fine. The assistant could be called both by a key-press and by “OK/Hello Google”. So far so good. The problem first appeared upon restarting the machine. When I tried calling the assistant, I got a message saying that Google assistant is not set as my default assistant (See attached photo). I went to the settings, and guess what, it seemed to be set as the default (See attached photo - No other option other than “None” were available anyway). I chose it again anyway, and indeed, it started working properly again. However, 30 minutes later, even without a reboot, it happened again. And again… You get the idea.
I did some googling (Both for the AC8257 and the assistant problem itself, contacted the seller and searched wherever I can, but the results were dull). I tried solving it by doing the following:
Using adb and root rights (Through ADB, not a permanent root), I installed the apk in priv-app, didn’t work. I then tried moving the Play store installation the priv-app, also did not work. I also tried disabling something called DuraSpeed, which, as far as I understand, is a performance enhancing tool by MediaTek that can sometimes cause this kind of thing, but that ,sadly, also did not help. In addition, I also tried resetting the device completely, to no avail. The only thing I didn’t try is installing a clean ROM and then installing OpenGapps, but that’s not possible right now (Couldn’t find any ROM for this device and CPU).
I know this might be a problem that is specifically related to my device/ROM, but as I can’t find a lot of info about it pretty much anywhere, I thought it might not be such a bad idea to ask this question in a more general forum.
Many thanks to you all,
Noam.
I have the same problem.
If you solve, tell us. Thanks!
Try to figure out what event took place at the 30 minute mark. Try to see what apk pops up in the cache when it crashes.
You can try clearing the system cache then the data of the apks used if that doesn't get it.
Try resetting network settings if communicating with bluetooth.
Eventually you'll find it if you keep playing with it... Androids wuv being played with.
