[HILPFE] S8+ won't turn on screen after having drained its battery - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Hi
I was wondering why my s8+ doesnt show screen anymore? Ive had it completely drained its battery and since then its screen wont turn on? I can hear the volume buttons responding and even vibrating when the sound gets turned off and when charging the led is flashing red.

Also the computer doesnt recognise my phone after pluggin the phone in the comp. It rather sees "samsung mobile composit device"

Ahh the more i read it dont sound like it as when they dishcharge they are totally dead no life
Have you tried holding power volume down and bixby for like 7 to 10 seconds to force a reboot
From the sounds of it. The device is functional. Almost sounds like a busted OLED

I tried and the screen still wont show anything. Whenever the s8 connects with pc it gives a error device not recognised message.
Ive tried all the bootings every combination possible but it just wont boot i think.

**** that's not good. Most def sounds e like hardware issues. If it's depressing discharge try wireless charger and USB at the same time. See if that helps. I'm curious to know if it even tries to charge on wireless. But have it on wireless and plug in USB sometimes that jump started them

People with the deep discharge bug have said this works. Say about 60% if the time. But again theirs are totally lifeless. No vibrations no LED. And after a total dead battery

Am I Screwed??? Please help.

I am running CleanROM 2.1 with the CleanKERNEL and AOSP Blue Mod Theme on my GS3. It is overclocked to 1.70Ghz .It has been working great for the past 3 days or so I have had it set up like this. I took the OTA before re-rooting and reunlocking and before ever putting any ROMs on the phone. I had the phone on my car charger on my way to work this morning, after draining a bunch of battry streaming F1 practice. When I got to work, I pull the phone off the charger and we inside. When I went to check my phone, it was black. And still is. The phone was working fine while on the charger, but now I can not get it to respond to anything. I have tried to reboot, reboot to recovery, pull the battery, and have it plugged in. The only thing happening is the phone becomes warm while plugged in.
I have no flashed anything for 3 days or so. I don't know what could have happened. Any thoughts?? Please help. I am kinda freaking out right now.

So you pulled the battery out, then put it back in. Then held volume up, the home button and then the power button?
What about Odin mode? Volume down, home button and the

Make sure to unplug the phone while doing this.

This happened to me a few times but with a slightly different scenario. If i tried to power up my phone, it would give a brief vibration and then show me a battery sign with a big 0 on it (green battery image). No matter what i did it wont boot up. And my battery wasn't at 0% when it happened. I was able to get into recovery and restore a backup.
In your case, check if there is any power in your battery (or borrow someone's who has an s3) and see if you are able to boot into recovery.
Hope you are able to fix it. Good Luck.

Then it might be your battery as the other person mentioned. The bettery is either bad or the device is not charging it. Have you tired different chargers as well? It can even be your charging port...
Odin mode and recovery have nothing to do with your ROM when you boot into them. If you boot into that, it boots before loading your Rom.
Go to the Verizon store and just ask if you can try their battery from the demo unti or something if you do not know anyone else with an S3.

There is guy coming in later today with a GS3, I will try his battery when he gets here. I know I was at 99% battery when I pulled it off my car charger. But, I suppose it is possible the battery is fried.
My bet is battery. Put it on the charger for 10 minutes.

Don't want to sound like a broken record, but have you tried keeping your power button pressed for 5-10 seconds? Its weird but the brief vibration I got in my case was when I had it pressed for a good 5-7 seconds and then nothing would happen. Just checking if you have the same symptoms.

Yeah, I have held it for 1 minute+. I am really lost on what could have caused this. It seems to me, and my uneducated mind, it may be a hardware issue. I just don't know what or why.
I just got home from work, still with no luck. I guess if I can't get life into it, Verizon can't either?

This is kinda where I am at. I feel like it is a hardware problem more then a software problem aka not my fault.
So what was the final outcome on this?
This happened to me a few weeks ago. I had my GS3 for about a month. Everything was stock. Never rooted or unlocked.
Its a hardware issue.
If you return your phone to Verizon they will give you a refurb.
I believe the phone gets sent to Verizon not Samsung. Since I wasn't rooted it didn't matter for me, but since you can't even boot into ODIN at the store they won't be able to tell that your phone is rooted so they will order you a refurb straight away.
Its possible that when it gets to the Verizon testing facility they will discover that its been rooted and expect you to pay full price for the replacement. I have no idea.
Good Luck
Sorry for not updating. I ended up getting a replacement phone from Verizon. Looks like some other people are running into the same problem.

[Q] My phone went dead and won't charge?

Last night I put my phone on the charger and fired up a TWRP backup. This morning I wasn't able to boot it. Tries two different chargers and it is a brick, The charging light won't come on at all. It's not the chargers, I have tested them with my nexus 5....
It's been on the charger for hours with no pulse. Need paddles...
Rooted but stock CM11s. Any suggestions how to get it back to life appreciated.
Have you tried connecting it to your PC? If so, what does it show up as in Device Manager?

When I connect, there's no power in the phone at all so USB port never acknowledges connection.
Did you try plugging it in (ensure its really plugged in) and holding the device power button for a good 10-15 seconds? I know its a silly thing to ask.

I have the EXACT same problem.
I went to enter a wifi network password and settings kept crashing, so restored from a TWRP backup... and the boot up animation was just ongoing, over and over. (3 hours) - Now, when I plug it in occasionally, I get an error saying it can't start up.. please charge first. (But it doesn't charge and I get nothing).

That sounds like the same problem for sure. Phones been on the charger all night but it's dead. I have not heard from one plus support yet.
So glad I kept my nexus. I think when I receive my warranty replacement I will just seek it for a small loss and wait for the nexus 6. I can't have a phone that I can't count on.

I've got an idea for you (It worked for me - but I must admit... I was drunk and didnt think things through) if you still have % you might be in luck.
Go into TWRP, and format Data only. Then once it boots... Hold Power and volume up, so it resets... and hold power till its completely turned off, then plug it into mains. (This charged for me - but as I say, I tried to just restore again and got the stupid logo by whih point my battery was at the point of no return) - Still faulty if you ask me though.

[Q] Screen and Sound issue

Hi,
The display and sound of my Nexus 5 was not working for a whole day.
When I pressed the power button to unlock my device, the display was not coming up. Normal trouble shooting is to remove the battery and switch on, but that will not work since it is embedded.
I have tried calling to my phone to check whether it is switched off. Surprisingly, it was ringing from the calling end but there was no display or sound on my phone.
I have connected to the charger and the battery icon was not coming (may be because of display issue).
Next morning when I called to my phone it was saying as switched off and when I tried to charge again, the battery icon came and it started charging from 0%. It was charged completely on the previous day (I used to get up to 2 days on battery) and now it is completely drained.
Not sure what happened on that day. Any one faced an issue like this before? I am not sure whether it is because of any hardware issue.
When I contacted Google, they started giving troubleshooting tips. But I am not sure how to find the root cause of this.
Please help.
Try a different charger and cable. Sounds like it was dead and not charging.
Or worse case would be a defect in the phones mini USB port.

To make it more clear, the issue was happened only for a day and when i tried to call to the mobile, it was ringing in the calling end.
In that case i don't think it was an issue with the charger or port.
So all is fine now? Then I wouldn't worry about it. Stuff happens occasionally. ?

Nexus5bricked

Hello,
im new here.
My nexus 5 microphone was not working, therefore I opened it up, battery was around 12%; I patched it up and thereafter its not switching on. I have replaced the old battery with a new one, left it overnight on charge; still device is not getting on or responding to power or power+volume buttons booting option. My phone is not rooted. Connecting to the pc or laptop does not change anything. All I hear is a faint buzz from the open back of the phone indicating it is active. Need some help here seriously.
Do you see the charging animation when connected to a charger? Any indication the screen is lighting up? Possibly defective battery?

Double-checked internal connections? Is possible an internal complement was damaged during the battery swap? Tried charging wirelessly or different cables and chargers?

I had been careful and internal components are unharmed because battery swapping was done without removing the motherboard. I dont have wireless chargers but I have used different cables.
Sounds like the phone may be bricked. The only way to really tell would be to put the motherboard into another working phone.

Since I do not have another working android phone, will it be sensible to take it to a repair shop? Will there be a chance to bring back the phone to a working mode?
You could take it to a repair shop but they may do exactly what you have tried.

Yes, i have cleaned the power button.
What happens if you put the old battery back in place? Does the phone boots up? Because it's strange that a simply battery replacement bricked the device.
Sounds like you'll need to find a way to try the motherboard in another phone.

samsung s7 dead

Hello. Long story short. I was using my phone when my phone started to freeze and i decided to restart it to 'unfreeze' it. I switched it off and that's it. All black. Dead. No safe mode, no recovery mode, no sign of life when charging. It has been over 12h now. Is it the motherboard? Is there any chance to save my data(photos, videos, contacts) with some app or program?
By the way I plugged it in the laptop yesterday - nothing. I tried now and the battery icon appeared. It looks like it is charging. It is very weeeeeeeeird.
Get it charged for 12h minimum. Then try to turn it on. If you succeed, download everything you can before doing anything. After that you can try flashing new software to see if that will help. If not, it's more than likely hardware issue.
I have already turned it on. Weird it wasn't charging with the charger, while it is ok with the usb in the laptop. It is charging slowly.
Do you reckon it might be a hardware problem?

Maybe your battery has come to the end of it's life, when Li-Ion batteries drain to 0% sometimes they won't charge again, or take a long time to start charging
80% > 2% sounds like a bad battery

I never had problems with the battery tho. Very very pleased with it's performance. I will message if there is any change. Still charging in the laptop hence it charges slow.
I never let it drain completely, this could be a problem I guess :silly:

Batteries can fail like this, working fine then suddenly dead
Hopefully just a glitch, good luck
Well, it worked for a day - managed to backup my data I think. I have another problem now it looks like i have no andoid on the phone. It gives me this error:
No support SINGLE-SKU
Supported API : 3
And then it fails to find any files. I have downloaded Odin. Does anyone know where I can find stock firmware - UNLOCKED

it there any particular firmware that i have to download? i am using giff gaff sim card if that makes difference - what i mean is it could be locked to some operator
I don't think it's locked by carrier. More important question is, where did you buy the phone.
I got it from someone from facebook in England. So I believe it was bought in England, if that is what you are asking, mate.
Uuu, ok. Did this person give you any paperwork for it? Receipt? No?
just the box and the stuff inside (warranty card and manuals)
So it's should be either BTU or XEU.
downloaded the BTU files, tried 2 versions of Odin and it fails 1 second after i start it. I get a message on my phone:
SECURE CHECK FAIL : (PIT)
Did you include pit file and checked "re-partition"?

I left it for repair. Can't be arsed with this crap phone Is it possible that the repair man could browse in gmail or stuff like this ?
I had this exact same thing happen to my S7 a few days ago. Shortly after I got a small OTA update. Phone froze at like 70% battery, held power for almost 30 seconds before it turned off, now it's just black. no vibration, no LED, nothing... I did notice that if I plug it in to my windows pc, and press the power button, I will hear the "USB connect" sound in windows and it will appear in Device manager as "Exynos 8890" and then immediately disappear when I release the power button. Very strange. It's been like this now for about a week.
