I've got an AT&T Galaxy Note 8 that won't power on. At all. I've put it on the charger (Corded and Wireless) but the icon that shows that it's charging doesn't pop up. I've gutted the thing, cleaned all the flex cable connections, tried a new screen and a new battery directly from Samsung, but it's not doing ANYTHING.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Sounds dead, but have you tried to see if recovery mode comes on to try factory reset? Hold down power, vol up, & Bixby simultaneously for several seconds. Release them if you see a blue screen.
I've also heard if the phone pauses up, it's possible to hold them even longer (like 30-45 seconds) to do a hard reboot. May as well try that if you haven't already.
Hope it helps.
According to the guy that I got it from, he had it plugged in while he was playing and Online MMO game downloaded from the Play Store. Suddenly, it just crashed.
I'll have to try the hard reset you just suggested. I currently have the phone gutted and I'm going to be giving it an alcohol and water bath. Will post back later and let you know how it went.
Well, I've put the phone back together, and tried the recovery button combo, but nothing. Is there any recovery software that's downloadable for windows?

Hey guys.
I have an interesting problem. My Fuze battery drained a few days ago. After I plugged it back in and booted the phone, there is no light on the screen, keyboard or the button and no charging like shows up on the center circle.
After plugging it into the wall and powering it up, i can hear the phone booting. Once booted i can call the phone from another phone, the phone ring and I can press the talk button and take the call/press end to end it.
I tried doing a (blinded since there is visual light) hard reset (stylus/power button/volume button down/up combo) but unfortunately I have one of the EnergyROMs where the volume button functionality was not working so i dont think .
I also tried plugging the phone into USB to see if i can flash another rom, but the computer does not even recognize a device has been plugged in (even if tried searching from it using device manager)
Searching the posts have not yielded any information. Should I consider this phone dead?
Ali
Do a search on the MTTY tool, this might be able to connect & hard reset the device. Keep playing with it, you may get lucky or get some better advice soon ! Good luck
I decided to install VooDoo lagfix on my new captivate when it still didn't have anything on it to minimize potential loss of information. I downloaded the lagfix, got it started, then the damn battery popped out when I got off my bed a few min into the mod. Immediately I felt like an idiot. Now, when I start my phone I get this sequence: ATT world phone screen, then a GALAXY S / GT-I9000 / SAMSUNG screen which it freezes on.
I have odin3 v1.7, but I'm unable to get it to Download Mode with any of the methods I've found (I don't know what I need for adb or what it is though...).
If I attempt to go go into download mode with Vol + & Power it shows a circle of radial lines, then it goes to a battery with the circle of radial lines (and I'm still holding both Vol + & power), then a black screen, then repeats what seems an indefinite amount of times. If I release the Power or Vol buttons it stays black for a couple seconds then it goes to the charging battery screen.
If I plug it in and turn it on with odin3 running, the phone stays on the frozen GALAXY S screen, odin3 recognizes it as COM6 but wont allow Start.
Any help would be great. My intuition says it has to be fixable if it's software.
Not sure if this will help, but earlier today I installed a theme on my phone that wasn't supported by my kernel by accident. The phone went to the AT&T World Phone screen then hit the Samsung Galaxy S screen and froze. I pulled the battery out to unfreeze the phone and then I put it back in after a few seconds and turned the phone on. I immediatly did the three button method and held it down so the phone did the AT&T World Phone/Samsung Galaxy S thing. I kept my fingers on them and the phone rebooted again (which is supposed to happen) and I kept the three buttons held down so again, it rebooted. After the second reboot I immediately took my fingers off the buttons when the AT&T World Phone screen popped up and I got into recovery. Now, this is a theme so it's totally different, but it's worth a shot and hopefully it works for you.
But if that doesn't work I still wouldn't worry as you most likely didn't brick your phone. If it was bricked it wouldn't be turning on at all and Odin is reading it at least so I'm sure with the right help if my method doesn't work, you can fix it.
Hopes this helps you man!
No power, just volume up and down plus in usb
Get a Jig. I was in the same boat. Worked like a charm.. You can make one (I did)

or you can buy a jig. Will surely work. Good luck
My transformer has been my right hand since June and all of the sudden I'm without it. Was listening to a podcast via beyondpod this morning and paused the audio via my BT headset. Went to a meeting, then lunch. Came back two hours later and my tablet wouldn't turn on. I figured it was a sleep of death that randomly occurs so I held the power button in for 30 seconds or so to reboot, but that didn't work. It was still on because I could hear audio notifications for calendar appointments.
Tried the power button for 60-90 seconds, still nothing on screen. In the past I've been able to plug in the charger when this occurred and it would pop the screen on, tried that, but got no results.
I tried plugging it into my laptop to see if I could get ADB active and do a reboot. Windows saw the device and loaded the ADB driver, but if I tried adb devices it showed no devices. I long pressed the power button again and the windows device manager reset, adb devices now showed the transformer, but in offline mode. I couldn't run any commands.
Next I tried the "soft reset" utilizing the volume up and power button. This didn't do anything, except that the next time I attached it to my laptop it prompted me for an APX driver. I didn't know at the time this was for NVFlash (I rooted my device before the SBK was out with the initial blob tools from androidroot.mobi).
Now when I hook up my transformer I get no response from my computer and no response from the buttons on my tablet.
I'm at a loss and would love any suggestions or ideas to get my tablet back up and running.
This is resolved, I was finally able to get it rebooted via the volume down button and power while hooked to my laptop. I have no clue what was going on with it, but its still acting hinky.
Do we have any hardware diagnostics?
my tablet just started doing the same thing. O_O asus is trying to get us to buy their new slates, so they broke our current ones. /s
Something is seriously wonky here. My wifi keeps turning shutting down but being stuck at turning off. My power button is very inconsistent.
I think I'm going to fully wipe the system and start from scratch...
Been a couple months, but I'm back in the frozen state again. I charged my TF101 over night, pulled it off the charger and validated it was in a SOD. I put it in my sleeve and headed to the office. I turned on my BT headset to listen to a Podcast, but it didn't connect. I grabbed the tablet and it was screen on, frozen at 7:29am.
I can't for the life of me get this thing to reboot. I've held the power button in for 60 seconds, tried power button with volume down to boot recovery. I tried on AC power and off. I tried to hook to my PC, but the USB is not recognized at all.
I don't know if I just need to let this thing die (which will take forever) or what to do to get this rebooted.
Power button feels like it is catching when I press it in...
If you take off the outer bezel (be mindful of your micro sd card if you have one) you can push the actual power button itself. It should be a simple hold the button down for about 3-5 seconds and it'll reboot.
This is my first post on the boards, so I apologize in advance.
This phone belongs to a friend of mine, they had it rooted and then they reset it to factory default, and it stopped working. That's when it was given to me.
Specs:
Samsung Galaxy Captivate (Rogers)
SGH-I896
When I got the device, it could be turned on and would say "SGH-i1987" and "19000i" or something. After a short time an "S" would appear and glow until the screen went idle. It would never boot up.
After a lot of trial and error, I eventually got it into download mode by holding VOLUME DOWN and clicking the POWER button.
Once on, I tried flashing using a One Click Odin from this site. It seemed to be installing through Odin and eventually the device booted up an "AT&T" logo then rebooted, and kept doing so over and over.
After 5 or so minutes, I hit the power button and Odin said 1 Successful/1 Failure ( i believe) and so I unplugged the device.
Now when I turn it on it keeps loading the AT&T logo and then rebooting, or if I connect the USB it shows the grey battery, then reboots.
Here I have tried everything. I tried VOLUME UP + VOLUME DOWN, VOLUME UP + VOLUME DOWN + POWER, VOLUME DOWN + POWER, USB, no usb, I tried 10 times doing each. I could never get a different result.
I bought 3x100k resistors and tried linking them, ran it over a meter and say that it had 300k resistance. I tried making contact to the microUSB slot but after a few hours it still hadn't gone into download mode. I stripped a microUSB plug but I had to junk it, the contacts weren't helpful. I've since ordered a USB jig but would like to fix the phone before that comes in, if possible.
Is there any other way to fix it other then the jig, is the jig going to help? I have a microSD card, can I use that to enable the buttons or flash something helpful onto the device? I don't have much experience with this but I've read several forum posts on the subject so far. Also, if I get it into download mode, what is my best course of action to get a simple WORKING OS loaded.
Thanks a lot for any help you can offer me!
Hi! So... I installed Magldr V1.13 many months ago and it has been very awesome. Yesterday, while sitting in class, my phone was in my pocket. (very rare occasion as I usually have it in a holster)
Anyhoo, it vibrated twice like it would for an email or text. I pushed the red (hangup) button to see the screen, and the screen stayed black but the buttons lit up. I repeated, same result. I took the battery out, turned back on and the phone stops loading after the "GO GO GO!". It just sits there.
I have taken the battery out and restarted it literally 12 times. I tried with and without SD card and Sim Card. I even tried holding in the yellow reset button. I don't know what else to do.
Any help is very much appreciated!
hope you find out the problem, I uesd to be in your situation, so sad

Always it happens something like that out of nowhere. So I think the solution is only one. Factory Restart the phone and re-install everything from the begging. If you don't want to loose your stuff try to copy paste the stuff you got in your SD card.

I know right? This is the first time I have been without a phone this long since high school, lol. How can I factory reset it without being able to turn it on? I held down the volume down+home+power button and chose the wipe from that menu. It didn't do anything. I even held in the yellow button on the back, still nothing.
Ok. So I finally found a way to factory reset my phone even though I can't get it to really come on:
1. With your phone powered off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
2. While holding the volume buttons, press the END/POWER button briefly and then release it.
3. When you see a warning message on screen, release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
4. Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
Now, it's stuck on the "Stick Together" Tmobile logo
