Gear S2 Downloading do not turnoff target - Samsung Gear S2

Hi guys,
Looking for some help, I was updating my gear s2 using odin and I was not paying attention and believe I added the wrong file. Now my watch is stuck with the dreaded Downloading do not turn off target screen. The problem is I can't get the watch to do anything else. I have tried soldering the 4 usb cables and downloading the samsung drivers but odin does not recognize it.
Holding the buttons down only turns the watch off and back to the same screen. I can even let the battery sit for 3 days and the first time I plug it in, it goes back to the same screen . Its a lovely brick right now but just hoping someone with a bit more knowledge has an idea.

If not Top Secret...
Maybe tell us EXACT Model Name...
Example:
SM-R732 or SM-R730A or...
Best Regarsd

I'm in the same situation - It's actually impossible to even check the model version either.
It's stuck on downloading... Do not turn off target after a flashing to reset (inherited from my brother in law).
Can't connect via wireless anymore, nor BT (and I assume computer connection is not an option with this device?)
I'm now waiting for the power to die off on it though not holding my breath.
Any pointers as to where to go to unbrick this?

Did you try to install the latest Samsung USB drivers? Do you have Samsung Kies installed? I had this problem and what helped me was uninstalling Samsung Kies and installing the latest Samsung USB drivers.

Same issue fo not understand
I have the same issue. My gear s2 is stuck on downloading... Do not turn off target. Powering off just reboots to the same screen. How can you uninstall kies or install latest drivers if the watch cant do anything with the watch? Please help me and give me a detailed procedure to follow. It would help me a lot.

@LukeSalonga
Step 1...
Identify your correct Model Name...
SM-R732 or SM-R730T or SM-R720 or SM-R730A or
Best Regards

Confused.
I cant check the model my watch cant do anything but show this screen.

Normally you can look with open eyes on your device... back cover... rear case...
Anyway... look first few seconds of this Video...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQNOaZ8-BTQ
You are able to hold Power Button for few seconds to force reboot... and enter this reboot menu?
If Download wireless is possibe you can flash Firmware...
If you only can enter download aka Odin Mode... you are able to read Model Name... first line...
Code:
SM-R7[COLOR="Red"]???[/COLOR]

Doesnt show model
On my screen. It currently says: "Samsung gear s2. Downloading... Do not turn off target" There is no other writing on the screen. On the back there is text saying: "samsung gear s2 classic. 316L stainless steel case". There is no other writing on the watch.

S2 Classic could be SM-R732... I have this Watch I know how it looks and how it works... IMHO...
Use Flashlight or Microscope... to look into the black part of Back Cover/ Rear Case.. to confirm it is SM-R732 and no LTE Variant of it...
Attached example of SM-R720 Back Case/Rear Cover... you can Google or Ebay this... to know how to look at your own Watch... with open eyes.
Again.
Are you able to hold Power key... for few Seconds...
Other Video...
Maybe look this time WHOLE Video and try to find your way to Reboot menu...

Is there a small hole in the back cover near letters "ess" in "stainless"?

Model of watch
There is a cut out hole above the 'ess' in stainless at the back of the watch, however, there is text at the back saying: "SM R732".

I have identified: SM R732 at the back of the watch.

Powering Off and Rebooting Problem
If I hold the power button:
1)The screen turns off
2)There is a quick vibration
3)Screen turns on again with the same thing.
No rebooting screen.

@LukeSalonga
Short summary.
Good
You have SM-R732... I have tiny experience because I have this Watch too. :good:
Bad
I still have not enough information...
A
How you reached this situation?
By accident... or randomly or like Thread Starter by doing "something"
Or you bought this Watch from Ebay and never worked?
B
Thread Starter wrote something about USB cable... with no success...
Look here what we mean with USB cable...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcLYt8S7jog
But... BAD BAD very BAD...
Maybe something like this happens:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80602127&postcount=11
Maybe eMMC have still this DL Flag from param... and can not overwrite with new data...
No idea about your solder skills...
I have never tried IMHO to test "USB JIG" to set DL Mode without Keys... with Resistor blabla...
So if no key Combination exist to enter valid DL Mode...
you are out of luck to repair.
Best Regards

Alright here is the story of how I got to this point:
-I bought this watch off of Gumtree Australia used.
-The watch had a reactivation lock active.
-The seller didn't respond to disable the reactivation lock.
-I followed this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCDouih8QtQ&t=291s
-I was up to the step where I had to flash the 'AP' file onto the watch.
-It was installing via wireless download.
-I flashed it with the AP file: COMBINATION-FTMA_R360XXU1DQH1.tar.md5
-On the watch screen, there was a downloading progress line.
-Once it completed, it booted to the downloading screen which I am stuck at now
-After about 2 days after I was stuck at this screen the Gumtree seller removed the reactivation lock.
So that's the situation I am in. Hope this helps. Thanks for the help so far.

I flashed it with the AP file: COMBINATION-FTMA_R360XXU1DQH1.tar.md5

Okidoki...
If you flashed this to the SM-R732... then clear why not work as before... IMHO.
Code:
COMBINATION-FTMA_R[COLOR="Red"][B]360[/B][/COLOR]XXU1DQH1.tar.md5
This is Combination Firmware for SM-R360... NOT for SM-R732...

Not a big problem, but you will need to flash it via wired connection.
In any case the "rebooting..." menu is necessary to get into download (not wireless) mode, so try to find it. It must be there. The jig does not work (for me, at least).
And you need to buy an Y-type screwdriver and a R750 charging craddle.
$5 for the both, I think...
I used to buy such watches too, have a look at the photo...

Can someone compile a list of all the ways you can get to the reboot screen so I can try all of them? Thanks.

Look, this may be enough to flash the watch.
This means that the device is in download mode already and is trying to download firmware.
But you have to open it and connect a cable.

"We" have only 2 Hardware Keys...
I can remember on SM-R760 for instance it was possible with weired Key Combination to bypass some mistake with DL wireless...
Something like hold release hold relaes blabla ... timing...
Look here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch/gear-s3/wireless-mode-enter-gear-s3-sm-r760-t3710855
But... you have killed Original Software/Firmware on device...
Code:
COMBINATION-FTMA_[B]R360[/B]XXU1DQH1.tar.md5
Kernel is wrong... param is wrong... few important Software pieces now replaced by wrong Software from wrong device...
IMHO only sboot.bin Bootloader is still from SM-R732...
You have download Link to COMBINATION-FTMA_R360XXU1DQH1.tar.md5 ?
Maybe we can check param file... because here are flags/settings for USB etc inside..
We could try to analyze SM-R360 FTMA to feel/smell what is now wrong inside your SM-R732 and if chance is low or lowER with USB cable...
Best Regards

I can only find BPI1 in public:

Galaxy tab 2 7 P3113. Actual ROM: pacman based on android 4.2.2. ROM used when it first failed was a 4.1.2 stock based rom for P31xx).
i never dropped the tablet. the problem started after connecting to the pc for transfering photos.
it simply shutdown on connect and when this happen the device stay off even when i use the power button. cant use recovery or go in download mode. the only way to start the system is to use wall charger and the recovery or download mode buttons when the batterie icon started to show the charge animation. the date and time reset. i can disconnect the charger and use the device for some time but can randomly go black (no power) and the same thing happen... cant use power button or go in recovery or download mode. when the device work i can shutdown, power up and reboot normaly until it happen again.
seem to be a problem related to battery power. the battery charge and keep charge like it should, can be a problem between the battery and the board or maybe a failure of the board itself. (i know date reset on pc because there no power to keep in memory. seem to be the same on this tablet.) sd data is fine. i ask here in case it can be solved by other way than returning the device or open it.
was using a custom rom when the problem started. i tryed some other rom with full wipe with no effect.
i have seen similar issue but in my case the battery actualy charge to 100% and keep his charge normaly.
any idea how to fix this? if the only option is a return to ssamsung for repair i would like to know the step required.
note: when it fail and the device is connected to pc i ear constant connect/disconnect sound from pc and it look for omap4430 driver.

ok , another thing... i tried to connect it to my pc this time it work and i was able to transfer stuff to it. i unpluged and pluged again, no failure... the only thing i did was a few gentle tap on the back of the device to see if it was related to a bad connection to the battery. i also did a factory reset. will see if the device can stay unconnected without failure. anyway i have to wait for samsung reply.

[Q] 8013 Stuck on "Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1" Screen

I apologize for the redundancy, but I've looked through lots of threads on this issue, with many different suggestions and solutions, for varying models. And the issues are all slightly different. So I don't want to proceed without getting some feedback on exactly what's going on with my tablet.
It had been working fine until it suddenly displayed the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 screen and stayed there. I wasn't even using it at the time. It was on, and sitting on my desk. The screen woke up, displayed that, and has been that way for about almost a week.
I'm able to get to the little green Android guy briefly, but he disappears and it goes back to the "Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1" screen. I've read suggestions on flashing this or that, but I can't figure out how to do anything with it at this point, and could really use some help from someone with more knowledge than I have.
It's a stock ROM, but rooted.
Thanks in advance,
-Lori
167 views and no replies? Nobody? This thing is still stuck on that screen, and I can't figure out anything to get it out of that state, to even factory reset it.

No one reply because we are moving on to a new device or you provide us too few details of your device or you didn't search the forum properly (because this kind of problem/solution is all over the forum).
Anyway.....try enter Download Mode (Odin Mode).
To enter Download Mode : Press & Hold Volume Down+Power button until an instruction screen appears.
If you can enter Download Mode, then you are OK, just search the forum for flashing stock/custom ROM via ODIN/HEIMDALL
Sorry, I thought I added as many details as necessary in an initial post, to prompt questions if necessary. And I did many, many searched online and in this forum, but finding none that described exactly what I was experiencing. Hence, hoping to get some direction on this particular problem.
Thanks for responding. I can get to download screen, but can't seem to do anything once there. I'll keep searching I guess.
UPDATE: So, I can get to the screen that says DOWNLOADING and instructs me not to shut off the device. But that's it. And I can only get to that if they USB cable is plugged in. And if it's connected to my PC, my PC doesn't see it (although it used to), so there doesn't appear to be anything I can do at that point.
Unless someone's got some other information. I've searched and found this (as well as many others): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2713297
But I can't get to download mode without the USB cable plugged in, as instructed.

Method 1:
Uninstall the old device driver.
Download & install a new one.
Download & run Odin v3.XX
Set your device to Download/ODIN mode.
Connect your device to your PC
Look if your device is recognized by Odin.
Flash your ROM
Method 2:
Use another computer that is proven free of malware.
This step & the rest is similar to the above....
If both methods failed, try checking your cable/connector.
Try different cable (I prefer OEM cable to cheap one).
Replace the 30 Pins connector (ONLY) IF NECESSARY

I know this isn't a "help desk" I just wanted to give as much info as possible hoping to help you help me!
Please point me in the right direction.
Thanks!
Try to hard-reset your phone. There is a button combination for that., search it over the internet.
Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately the hard reset combo does nothing. I've tried every button combination that I have been able to find with no luck. Factory reset, hard reset, etc. etc. no luck. I've also searched for a possible "hidden" button underneath the back cover or something of the like...nothing.
hmmmm
At least, it is not hard-bricked. So there is hope.
Have you checked if it is entering the download mode? If not, then try it. You can use this mode to flash file via the PC.
Check this link
It worked! Obviously I didn't search or try as many things as I thought I did. : / I can't thank you enough! wow. Amazing!

Bootloader exception for SM-G930F

Hello,
Yesterday, while my phone was in idle, it turned off and rebooted on the classic red writing on black screen error.
I realize that there are many bootloader exception topics, but I searched and the only one topic I found was on a polish android forum, which I had to translate and that could not help me.
That because the exceptions may be many but I found that error only once.
The error is:
Code:
Bootloader exception
[RST_STAT = 0x1000000]
Exception: do_handler_sync: DABT_EL1(esr: 0x96000010)
pc: 0x8f0221b4 lr:0x8f022170 sp:0x8f10fe60
Phone is stuck in that screen until the battery dies.
I tried to get into download mode (to flash a new bootloader) but every combination doesn't work, it just turn off the screen and then after 30 seconds - 1 minute it reappears.
I read online that may be a mobo issue.
Is there any way to recover the phone, put it in download mode or at least recover the data there's inside?
Thanks for the support
Also having same issue
Have you managed to find a solution to this? I am having the same issue, and this is the only thread I can find which matches what my phone is doing.
Same as you, I haven't recently done anything to modify the firmware, I woke up this morning to find the exception text, and when rebooting via the Home + Power + Volume Down combination it jumps me straight to the same exception screen with no boot logo.
Hopefully there's some information around that can resolve this, but unfortunately I currently can't find it

No, unfortunately my phone is still stuck on that exception red text (not a single green one like the one i found online).
I bought a cheap USB Jig, trying to force the phone in the download mode but it doesn't work, my guess is that since the phone doesn't actually turn off, it can't "jump-start" on that mode (with the Jig).
Online I found that people just kept pressing the Vol Down + Power + Home and "eventually" (after 100+ tries) the download mode happens, but I doubt that's in my case.
The only solution I could find that could help me in the future is that 1. Phone is dead, eMMC and motherboard cannot start. 2. Since the phone could be (difficultly) tore down, the best bet is that you find a data recovery center (not Samsung since as I found out they don't do data recovery, but they simply change everything giving you a new phone basically or they change the motherboard, so deleting everything) or a data recovery specialist so that you could disassemble the phone, remove the memory, and read the content on a chip reader.
In this case maybe there's a chance to recover the simple data you have (photo, video, music, documents and something else that has a recognizable header) but probably everything else is lost.
I would be more than happy to be proven wrong since I'm not an expert but it's been 2 weeks and I received no answers.

Morning.
The way out of this is to flash either the firmware that is on your phone or just the bootloader file (BL) from that firmware. Both options are done via Odin with your phone in download mode. So just to be clear, Download Mode is availble before the phone looks at the boot partition.
So, hold volumedown+home+power (press and hold the power button last in this sequence).
You may notice that your phone won't go into downlaod first time but it should not take more than 3/4 attempts. Do Not release the buttons until Downlaod Mode appears, no matter how many attempts it takes. Keep them pressed the whole time even when it's powering off and on, this is the part people do wrong.

Hello,

That's it.
But even if I keep the combination pressed the phone doesn't enter in download mode. Usually (and I've seen a good amount of videos) if you keep volume down + home + power pressed, the phone boots up, then goes into the bootloader exception, then it reboots, then it goes into the exception and so on until it gets to download mode. That's not my case. I tried to keep them pressed for 10-15 minutes while it was showing the error and there was no more than one "attempt" (it doesn't restart more than one time per combination).
Keep them pressed the whole time even when it's powering off and on, this is the part people do wrong.

The fact is that it doesn't power off and on multiple times, but just one time.

Hello,
The idea was to flash something on my phone to restore it, but download mode isn't available for me
That's it.

I'm this case you'll need to use ADB and side load to flash a new bootloader.

But how can I use ADB and sideload if 1. the device doesn't go in recovery mode and 2. it's not even recognized with "adb devices" maybe because of the fact that it doesn't go on recovery mode?

Ok forget that one for now.
Try the following.
Boot phone so the error appears.
Then just press and hold the Home button only until the Android robot appears on screen.
Now press volume down+home+power and it should after a few seconds reboot into downlaod mode, if it does just repeat the process from the start.

I'm guessing my phone is one of the older version. Pressing repeatedly the Home button or holding it should trigger the "forced upload by key pressing" with the android logo (as i've seen in videos and images), but mine doesn't.

OK, the only sensible conclusion is that your phone has suffered some sort of hardware failure, its isn't unheard of. It'll likely cost you more to diagnose and repair than to buy a new S7 since their really cheap now.
It may be worth just looking to get your data recovered, which will be cheaper.
I'm not a fan of changing the mother board it's messy and the phone will never look perfect.
What country are you in?

Italy.
I honestly don't care about the phone, it has not sentimental value or something. Since I read here, on reddit, youtube and online that there were method like keeping pressed the combination, pressing the home button repeatedly or holding, using a jig, and others maybe someone knew what could I do to restore it. The weird thing was that I wasn't flashing anything nor using the phone, so the hardware failure option may be plausible.
The recovery of data (and I tried when I wrote my last post to re-use adb, maybe i was missing something but the phone is "recognized" by the computer but not with "adb devices") is the only solution I can think of, and there's the chip-off method that could at least recover the major data (photos, videos, documents). If there's anything else I'm all ears.

Pressing the power button for even a minute doesn't trigger anything. I assume that you're talking about the upload mode activated by holding the home button or pressing it repeatedly, showing the android logo and having adb recognize the device to then flash something or recover something. That is not my case, it doesn't happen to me unfortunately.

Buy an usb jig they still work for galaxy s7. It might get you out and they are 3-5$ so you got nothing to lose

I have the exact same problem. This is the closest thing I could find on the internet I could find regarding diagnosing it. Had to make an account just to reply. I was thinking it was a OS problem for the longest time, but I suspect that it may be a hardware problem after all. My s7 did this to me the morning of Jan 9. Set it down and came back to it, reboot with bootloader error, red text only, no combinations of buttons work etc. I see that two others in the thread had theirs fail around the same time as well.
Just wanted to update, not sure if anyone is still reading this thread. I plugged my s7 onto my old laptop (windows 7). My laptop recognized it and installed 2 drivers. They are:
"SAMSUNG Mobile USB CDC Composite Device"
"SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem #2"
I've plugged into this old laptop before and transferred files around, so it doesn't seem to make sense to me why it would install these drivers now. It still doesn't show up in "My computer" at all. I believe normally it shows up in "My computer" as an empty folder when charging although I don't recall 100%. Hopefully this might help with diagnosing this problem.

Probably it's because when it's in recovery mode, in download mode or this (bootloader) "error mode" it's recognized differently by the computer, to be recognized by ADB and Odin to flash roms and others. Instead when you plug it in when it's on, it's recognized to transfer data, and I believe when you swap MTP (for normal data transfer) and PTP (using the camera) you should also installing different drivers.
Anyway, I noticed too that the device is recognized differently than usual, and differently when rebooting it with the cable plugged in. (Also the name of the device is different when using the 300k tool, in fact my device is recognized as a "Modem")

I was wondering if you installed any apps recently and how full your internal memory was. I believe my phone was around 90% full of the 32GB, had no warning symbol about how full my memory was though. Friend was saying I should of got a warning if my memory was getting near capacity. I installed F-droid recently and used it to download Adaway app. Deleted F-droid and deleted Adaway since I couldn't get Adaway to work. Never rooted my phone. I was curious if you also did anything similar to what my phone did since we're in the same boat. Otherwise the only things we share in common is we set it down and it reboot with this bootloader error.

Need help restoring a bricked sm-r800x

I need help with restoring my watch to it's original state before I bricked it using instructions from a Youtube Video.
I used this idiot's CSC file using Odin according to his instructions, after completion, ODIN displayed the passed ICON.
The watch started the rebooting process, however it did not reboot - Watch was stuck on the "Galaxy Watch -Rebooting" screen.
I powered it off and restarted the watch and proceeded to the select reboot mode - I chose Wireless(download),
The flower/pinwheel logo shows up then the watch goes into a black screen after a minute or so the logo comes back.
I rebooted the watch again to try the other selections but none work for the exception of Download and Wireless(download)
but the watch goes into a black screen.
I allowed the watch to boot to see if it would boot back into the regular screen but to my surprise my watch now says
Galaxy Watch "Live Demo Unit" it then buzzes twice and the black screen comes back.
I also tried powering off the watch and placing it on the charging cradle it then showed the charging Icon and tried to boot but the it repeated the same process of displaying the Logo then shutting off.
To say I'm beyond pissed is an understatement, I know this is my fault I reached out to the creator of the video to ask what type of file or what was in the file that caused my watch to brick but no response...
I would appreciate any help I can get and or any leads to articles with solutions on how to recover the watch back to it's original state. I can't access the watch because it bricked into a loop that will not give me access to wireless.
Thank You for your help!
