Live photo option for Pixel 3? In dire need!!! Please help! with sound! - Google Pixel 3 Questions & Answers

Hi,
First off just want to say I am a long time XDA fan from way back to windows mobile and I am in a bit of a crisis state currently. I have always been anti apple and drank the android phone coolaid forever but I am struggling currently because I have a very strong desire for the live photo feature. (Video before and after every picture I take WITH audio) I know the pixels have motion photo and all that but without sound it is so much less. I have found that camera MX supports this but google photos doesn't detect the live photo aspect of the picture to upload it.
Everyone around me thinks I am going crazy causing I am thinking of putting up with all the things I hate about apple just for the live photo feature. The camera is my number one used item on the phone so that is why I would think of switching. I am a Dad of 3 and love these short videos and take way to may pictures.
Is anyone aware of a way to get google photos to detect camera MX's live shots? Or get audio on google motion photos? Or some other app that can do this?
Not sure if this is posted in the right spot so mods please move if needed...

I'm looking for a camera app with continuous shots and video mode

Hey there,
it's really ridiculous. I'm either blind or disappointed on the play store and I really hope you can help me out. Until now I was driving with Camera MX that can take videos and pictures and has something called live shot, so I won't miss great moments. Unfortunately, it does not take continuous shots in full quality, instead it records a video and let allow me to select the frames I want to export as images.
This sucks in term of quality. I'm looking for an app that takes real shots. I rather want high quality with lesser shots per seconds, however most apps target for speed and decrease quality. Another big thing is I want to record videos with it, too. And this is the moment were every burst shotter fails.
I'd like to have aperture, ISO value, and exposure time settings for better night photos, too. Half of the apps did not even adjust brightness on my LGG4 (CM13), but none of them fulfilled my expectations.
I really hope anybody can help me out with that. Thank you!
For anybody who came here for the same reason, I found this website: https://softwarerecs.stackexchange....ith-shutter-mode-easy-manual-config-and-video
At the end I decided to go for OpenCamera, because A Better Camera seems not to work on CM.

This is seriously Crazy by Vivo!!!

Okay this had to be the title for the thread as what i discovered about NEX is seriously crazy.
What i discovered is, that NEX's display can render much better colours both while watching videos and browsing images, but the built AI **** is decreasing the quality of the display by reducing the saturation and a bit of sharpness.
How i discovered this: While i was browsing some 2K videos on NEX youtube app, i watched on video which is a 2K HDR 10 video and it looked completely off on the NEX display. It looked completely greyed out and horribly pale and i right away knew that the built in AI is doing something wrong. So, to further confirm this, i downloaded this app called NewPipe, which streams youtube videos and i saw that the same video which was looking horrible on the stock youtube app is looking really nice on this app. In fact the colours were looking as good as it looked on my Note 8. I was super surprised for a moment as i never thought NEX's display is capable of matching the Note 8's display in terms of colours and sharpness. So, once i was sure that its the AI thats decreasing the saturation of the display while we watch any content using the stock app, i downloaded a Gallery app from play store to check if its doing the same thing to the pictures too and as it turned out, the colours of the same image looked so much more better on that third party gallery app than it did in the stock gallery app.
So, now what i really want to know is, how to switch this AI thing off. If not completely, i want to at least disable it while watching videos and browsing images. I seriously dont know why has Vivo done this, as it is not doing any good to the display. In fact its bringing down the actual performance of the display which would have affected their sales over all. I am sure there would have been people comparing the Note 8 or S9's display to NEX and would have changed their decision based on it and one famous reviewer has compared it against the S9 plus and he clearly says the NEX's display cant match to the S9's, which is not at all the case.
I am super sensitive about colours and i really really happy that NEX can deliver colours as good as my Note 8, which was my only complain. While i am super happy after discovering this, i am equally restless to figure out a way to disable that AI thing on certain apps. You guys too can do this test and see the results for yourself. Let me know if anyone of you can find a solution for this.
Also, attaching comparison pictures of the display colours while using the stock gallery app against using a third party app.

I too noticed this while putting wallpapers on mobile.
From 1st day I am using Google's gallery app i.e. Photos , while pictures looked brilliant in the app but whenever I set a picture as wallpaper , it looks dull.
Second time I noticed it when I saw Avengers on MX player, colors looked bright and punchy where as it's trailer on YouTube looked very dull in comparison.
Exactly!! Hope someone can find a solution for this. Such a shame they are restricting what this phone can deliver.

HOLLY CRAP!!! I looked at your pictures but really couldn't see it. I then did same test you did and I'm Blown Away. This is horrible. See the attached examples. We need to chase support on this one for sure. For reference..I used the YouTube app vs new pipe app. U also checked the stock photo gallery versus a replacement photo gallery and you can also see the difference there ....see the last pic

I did and the colors look much better on the Note 8 and I am sure that the colours on the NEX can also look equally better provided someone finds out a way to turn of the AI thing.
I wish I can unsee it
If you want to really hate the AI, access YouTube in your mobile browser and then switch to request the desktop version. Then set it to a high resolution and look at the stunning quality.
I now seriously hate this AI!
Also just validated ..this is happening with the official and vanced versions of the YouTube app.
Tested:
- I installed older official YouTube apps - same issue
- I installed a few third party YouTube apps - all had beautiful color saturation
Jesus!!
What a mess.
Good that i'm always uninstalling all stock app and replaced them with third party for example for gallery i'm using Google Photo or Quick Pic with all my smartphone.
But must be some kind of spesific services related to AI that should remove via ADB that would be the best solution.

I will be tomorrow with the photos and this forum presented as exhibits. I have been talking to vivo support on an off for the past week, so I suspect it will at least get logged.
I see the same problem. I used ES Explorer and default album with multitask to compare side by side. Really strange ...
I always use the QuickPic Since I got the device , However noticed the Bad quality with YouTube when I attempted to test a Video Playback . Mx player has better performance.
Lets Push Vivo Team to Correct this , There is a separate thread on XDA requesting them to release the source code.
Once they release the Source , I guess these problems will be Easily resolved.
Regards,
H
Also, you guys can use a third party app to set the wallpapers for both desktop and lock screen. It looks so much better when you do that. And if we should reach to Vivo on this. It's shame that their team has not checked on this, which is such a major thing.
Youtube and Youtube Vanced apps are playing video in 1080p HDR / 4KHDR mode , NewPipe is playing video in 1080p/4K Normal mode. you can check in video stream selection settings.

How to create 16:9 Instagram Stories on tall phones

I had a problem since I bought my OnePlus 7 Pro phone, the tall screen doesn't go well when recording an Instagram story, cause the viewfinder fill the whole screen (specially when using gesture navigation). This cause a bigger side crop from the original camera sensor, and then another top and bottom crop for the people who watch them. So it ends up in a lost of quality and a really frustrating experience, trying to readjust everytime the videos so people can watch them better and having them saved at a weird resolution instead of the standard 16:9.
So, if anyone knows a fix, or how to force the 16:9 aspect ratio in the whole app or hopefully just in the viewfinder section, similar to this fix I found https://www.reddit.com/r/oneplus/co...ries/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
I would be extremely grateful, thank you so much!

When I shoot video the audio is always out of sync Doogee S96 Android 10

Hi guys as the title says. Tried different camera app and settings, the same. Sent a captured video to a friend and it's out of sync for them too. I can play other videos fine eg YouTube.
I am abroad and the inability to shoot video on a brand new quad camera phone is driving me crazy! Please help!
Also push notifications stop after about half an hour of using the particular App eg my home motion CCTV. Not sure if this is related but it's also a nightmare.
Thoughts appreciated,
Greg

Question Astrophotography time lapse question

Just wondering if there's any way I can get an astrophotography time lapse greater than 1 second? I would love to have 60 seconds, but I know it would probably take 4 hours or something.
Just wondering if this is possible or there's any third party apps that might be able to do this (take a longer exposure than the 4 minutes that astrophotography takes)?
I don't think it is possible, the astro time-lapse is made up from the images used to and then stacked for the astro image itself so you would end up with shed loads of images as well.
Have you tried just using the normal time-lapse option in the video settings?
Exactly, take a normal night video and then slow it down with editing software.

The dude is talking about astrophotography and long exposure shots for a reason. What will a "night video" do good? And timelapse is not slowing down the video. lmao
That is my mistake, I totally read his post wrong.
Thing is the astro time laps is made up of the individual shots taken when Astrophotography mode is active so those individual image have been taken at f1.85, if you just did a normal time lapse using the main lens the video will still be at f1.85 and with a bit of post processing it should work.
The other way around it is to just take a night mode photo every 30 seconds for 2 hours using a timer and a Bluetooth remote.

You're talking about Aperture that is FIXED and completely irrelevant in this case. It's not like you have a variable aperture on the lens so you can adjust it.
What matters in his case is the shutter speed and the exposure time.
And no, normal timelapse WON'T work because the shutter speed will be low (fast) and the phone will try to compensate by pushing the ISO high. You'll end up with very dark scenes and TONS of noise.
And what makes Astro mode very important is the FRAME STACKING. Frame stacking reduces the overall noise and increases the "quality" of the image.

Not with stock camera.
You can try MotionCam Pro for that. It has a timelapse option where you can set your exposure time even to 15 seconds.
MotionCam is mainly for RAW video recording, but you can do photos and time-lapses. The output is absolutely GREAT. You're working with a RAW VIDEO basically and the quality is not comparable to ANY other app.
I had one Astro timelapse from it but I can't seem to find it now. It's sh**y weather outside now so can't do even a short one. I could do just a daylight one so you can see what quality I'm talking about here.
Uploaded a screenshot of the viewfinder. As you can see on the SS, you can adjust the ISO and shutter speed (among many other things) and do a timelapse.
This is basically taking RAW shots that you can later post process with various editing software like, Davinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere, Vegas, etc...
What you get is a video quality on the level of a DSLR and BETTER because there is no post-processing involved on the phone, it's basically RAW DNG images taken (sequence) that you can export (render) into a video at your QUALITY choice with YOUR post-processing involved.
Here is one sample I shot at and rendered to 4k60 (no color grading, just stock output).
Keep in mind that this is YOUTUBE, the quality of the original video is FAR better.

I know the aperture is fixed that's why i said it should work given the astrophotography mode time lapse is made up from the 16 images taken when the mode is active and not once the images have been stacked in to a single image. Given the way you talk you of all people should appreciate just how fast f1.85 is, not a single one of my Canon L lenses is that fast or even comes anywhere close to it.
The OP has nothing to lose by giving it a go before recommending extra software and shooting raw (it is raw BTW if we are getting picky, it isn't an acronym for anything).

Where did I say ANYTHING against the fixed aperture of F1.85? I just said that since it's fixed, it's not relevant to the "settings" he uses since he CAN'T change the aperture value anyway.
It's not about "losing" anything, it's about the technical part of understanding that your recommendation won't work because it doesn't use long exposure shutter speeds or frame stacking.
By NOT using frame stacking, the noise will be horrible and there is little much you can do with post-processing without killing completely the "details" on the photo by suppressing both luma and chroma noise.
Another thing is that regular timelapse doesn't push long exposures...It's just not meant to be used for "astro", that's all.
Erm ok fella but how do you think this was all done before Google and its wonderful computational photography came along?
My point about the aperture is it is very fast so it being fixed is not irrelevant at all given it is the only chance of this even working, the OP may have tried it at 0.5x or 5x where the apertures are much slower, the OP has absolutely nothing to lose by giving it a go, it might be crap, you might end up with only the brightest objects in the sky, you might end up with a noisy mush and yet it might be good fun who knows.
Sadly there is always one person that comes along and stomps on the parade because they know best though isn't there?

It was done in a way that results were not even close to what we have today. Why use "outdated" methods when we have these VERY capable devices?
The app I suggested is great and has exactly what is he looking for.
Your logic of "How did we do this before XY time" is equal to "Let's just ride horses instead of cars because that's how we did it before". lmao
