Portrait Lens for Android Creates DSLR Focus Effect in Flat Photos
What’s the difference between a snap taken with a phone’s camera and a photograph made with a professional lens? It’s the DSLR focus effect when the important object is focused on and the background is blurred. It makes a photo look beautiful and natural. A new photo manipulation app called Portrait Lens lets you create the DSLR focus effect in photos that you have taken with the mobile phone’s camera.
Here’s how you can create the DSLR focus effect. To begin, take a snap or select a photo from the gallery. The next step is to create a mask by dragging your finger around the area you want to focus on and the background you want to blur out. No matter how complex the shapes of an object could be, the application recognizes the focus area and applies the effect. It also uses a soft finish to incorporate the blur into the photo without making it look sloppy. Once done, you can save the output photo in the desired resolution (up to 3 megapixels). If necessary, you can change settings such as sharpness/blurring and saturation separately for the background and subject.
Effects (separately for the background and foreground):
- brightness, hue, and saturation;
- sharpen and blur;
- reduce noise;
- pencil sketch.
Effects for the background:
- motion blur (value and angle).
Effects for the original image:
- auto levels;
- auto tone.

Installed it to try it.I started the quick tutorial that appears when you first run it. It doesn't get past this screen. None of the buttons work to advance the tutorial.
If I press back, I can use the application normally. But you might need to look at fixing the tutorial getting stuck. Unless that's all there is?

Works fine for me, including tutorial.
Tutorial and integration with the camera and gallery is actually quite well polished

Crashing on 4.4 nexus 4 after took a picture or open one from gallery

I was just on Google+ discussing apps that create effects and whether they are good or bad for the photography industry.
That is another topic in itself but then I saw a post for this. I think this is a very promising app. Going to give it a test drive now.

For me the tutorial buttons work till the end of the tutorial.

Nice app. It can be a bit confusing at first, but it's a nice idea. Looking forward to future updates.

Yes, this version works.
Was able to take the picture, although when I tried to define the area I had to use two fingers on the screen instead of one, was not able to apply any effects, but was able to save.

This camera is nice but missing some options I really liked and used a lot. I had some nice cameras in the past on custom ROMs. Anybody know of any camera apps that give you more options? I'm looking for when you take a pic you can filter out certain colors. Not sure what the features are really called.

Personally by far the best is 'A Better Camera'.
Besides being totally manual in its controls it has an immense amount of settings you can apply.
It's the only app that controls not just exposure and white balance but ISO as well.
Camera FV-5 shows it too can change ISO but the second you use it you soon notice the ISO never actually changes in the shot taken.
When you use A Better Camera ensure you swipe the screen twice to gain access to the options for each swipe.

Unfortunately the developer has not released a free or trial version thus making it difficult to download, especially when you have A Better Camera and Camera FV-5 to try before buying.
If it were based on filters alone I would chose the free and very good Camera 360 app.
However, I am always on the lookout for a great camera app and have not tried Camera 2.

I actually never heard of it. Went to best buy yesterday and I guess someone had installed it on an s5. So I tried it there and then bought it. It has those settings and pic effects. You should be able to buy and try it. Then if you don't like it you can refund. I've done that with many apps. I believe as long as you do the refund in I think 15 min

Thanks... You are right it is 15 mins and to be honest that's nowhere near enough time to try a camera app out.
Don't get me wrong, it may be a very good app but with only a 15 minute returns window on apps that obviously need much longer to test I wish it were mandatory for developers to offer you trials or lite versions.
Until then I'll pass but I'm very pleased you found an app you are happy with.

Xperia 1 is in 1080p by default

I did a wm size in adb to check what the default resolution is, and it seems to be in 1080p (21:9 ratio).

This would explain why the battery life is still great. Despite being in 1080p, the display is still very crisp. Crispier than my XZ3.

They were never going to make the phone 4K all the time, wouldn't make sense

Can't remember but it will be in the XZ premium thread somewhere.
You wont notice a difference and the software already knows when 4k is needed

I read the gsmarena review and there's written the screen is always in 4K. I'm wondering where they get this info.

When I screenshot in any app including launcher, it results in 1644x3840 tho.. Previous 4k sony phones produced fullhd images if you ss on launcher
So which info should we refer to? Wmsize on adb or screenshot pixel size?

My XZ Premium screenshots are 2160x3840 png files, and the same for my older Z5 Premium.
That adb system is so suggested from users that many people believe in it, but the true reality was explained by a developer in this forum in "Z5p days". The proof is that you can do that with any phone.
It also explains that 4K screen is completely useless because nobody can spot the difference from fullHD (and I say this while it's since 3 years I'm only using 4K phones)

Using wm size on Xperia 1 results in screen touch area only works in partial, equaling to the scaled screen size, but the text is simply crispier. Anyone knows how to fix the touch area problem?

Do Kindle/Moon Reader etc.. run in 4k or 1080p mode?

I did exactly ./wm size 1644x3840 and yes...unfortunately that is the case where currently we cannot have the phone at 4K all time at this moment.
I'm guessing that Sony did something to the UI touch overlay in order for the side sense detection to work precisely.

Regardless if you use wm size to "force" it in 4k, it's not actually 4k, but just emulating. In order to get native 4K, you have to be on a kernel that supports it.

I found that when I disable a game enhancer it automaticaly change a resolution to 4k...

Since it's pentile display, 4k will still be less blurry than a 2k/FHD, even for 2k/FHD content. Good to know that the GPU is not used all the time for 4k. An dsince I Watch my movies with VLC and photos with Google app, mince will never use 4k xD

still have troubles registering my fingerprint. dunno what happened. it was pretty good until that previous update that was suppose to improve the fingerprint reader *shrugs.
gotta see if they have fixed this other bug that i've had since i got the phone. sometimes the auto rotate will lock onto landscape.

I had to remove all the stored fingerprints, do a restart, and with clean hands register the fingerprints. It's working now, one time he just wouldn't recognize anything, I had to restart the phone and worked after. But I have been thinking for a week now that it does pretty well (or I'm just used with the way to unlock, with a slight slide of the finger). But yeah, like you it was really a mess after the update! Registering without rebooting got the things even worse.
I think what they did with the previous update is lowering the sensitivity of the sensor, because before I always had "too many attempts done, please try again later" because it tried to detect fingerprint each time a part of skin touched it.

Are we going to get a new thread every month for an update? Wouldn't it be better to post in the other update thread....

Improved Stability of connecting Bluetooth headset signal (especially in AAC connection mode)
Improve background control capability, optimize power saving of native system
Improve preview speed of camera interface and camera stability
Improve zoom framing and image quality
Those are the highlights according to the update page.
Some users are reporting back that fingerprint recognition is faster, and more reliable, noise reduction is better, Album is quicker, preview and processing speed increased, and 2x zoom is faster too.

thanks! that seems to have done the trick. can't tell if it's as good as when i first opened it, but it's back to usable now.

It'll release once the J8170 variant gets it. No definite time.

(Root) Guide To Get Netflix Full HD Official Playstore Application

Hello All,
I previously posted the modded apk to get Netflix HD but it had old interface and subtitle option wasn't showing and many more problems were there.
So I spent some time with build.prop and managed to get Full HD On Official Netflix App from PlayStore On Our Beloved POCO F1.
You Need Root And L1 Certified Device. Official Miui has L1 certificate so it works on miui for sure i dont know about any other rom. You can test and and share the result in the comments.
I Used Build.Prop Editor
So open the app and you have change only four value. And keep them as written below. Do not make all caps or no caps.
1. Manufacturer- Google
2. Brand - google
3. Device - Pixel 3a
4. Model - Pixel 3a
Keep the text as it is.
Now clear data of Netflix App and Reboot.
Now go to netflix app and sign in and enjoy.

I believe there's more to be changed when editing build.prop, I tried to go one step further and changed some other stuff, It didn't work out well and just caused bootloop.

Face Unlock Stopped Working For Me. The Face Data Option Ia Gone From Settings. Thats The Only One. I Have Tested It For 7 Days. No Other Bugs.

Did You Kept The Text As It Is? The Text Needs To Be As It Is. Even A Single Caps Letter Could Mess Up.

I changed that value to "Pixel 3a" after I didn't see any results in Netflix app, That was the only extra thing I changed, The first time that I changed a lot of stuff it led to Bootloop and reflashing the ROM, Maybe you are using a different MIUI version or Idk.

Hello, maybe I say a nonsense, but knowing this there is any way to create a magisk module to do that "on the fly" only for netflix app?
Like I said, I don't have any knowledge about anything, so maybe this is totally nonsense lol.

For some reason, it breaks video recording on pixel experience pie...
But it works, thank you for the tip.
Update: looks like i found a compatible gcam, HyperCam_7.2_V1, disable auxiliary cameras in settings.

Okay so it is working in Miui And Pixel Experienc.hope to get more review soon

I can confirm that it's working on Pixel Experience and I believe the reason it didn't work on MIUI was related to the way I edited the Build Prop, I used the search and entering the values one by one instead of editing the whole file at once.
As the other user mentioned, The recording functionality has stopped and it'd be awesome if there's a workaround for that.

How did you make it work? There's no option to edit it all at once. Just by searching one by one.
