I'm Roaming... OR AM I?! - Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Questions & Answers

Having a weird issue with a custom ROM I'm trying to install. I've got a Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 and I'm trying to load an unofficial version of Pixel Experience. It hasn't been a totally smooth ride, as I need to pre-load a Xiaomi ROM before I can load PE and it took some trial and error, but I got there (see here https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-mix-3/development/rom-unofficial-pixel-experience-p-t3882080 - I spent many hours today reading every comment to see if anyone else had my issue; they don't).
So far, everything is smooth and working as expected, EXCEPT the mobile data thinks I'm roaming. I'm not. I'm in Austria with my Austrian SIM. On the mobile internet icon I have the familiar 'r' logo next to the bars, and I cannot get mobile internet unless I tick 'allow roaming'. If I go to *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone information, sure enough it says I'm roaming there too.
The weird part is, not only do I not have this issue on the stock ROM, I don't have the issue with the Xiaomi ROM I had to pre-load before PE -- they both recognise my SIM fine and consider me not roaming. Furthermore, I get this issue with other custom ROMs loaded on-top (AOSP and ArrowOS -- using the same pre/base ROM). It's clear this is either an issue with the base ROM I'm using (although weird that I don't have an issue before I load the intended custom ROM on top), or some configuration issue once I load the intended custom ROM on top of the base ROM. To make things harder, I'm limited in what base ROM I can use as this process is pretty picky, and one wrong move and I get a boot-loop and have to start again.
Any idea on what this could be, or if anyone has experienced this before? Better yet, any solution would be great!
Thanks

"Invisible" data drops with CM 9/ 10

Hi people,
I'm opening a new thread because I have not seen a post about my kind of data drops here and couldn't find any by searching.
Thing is, since switching to Cyanogenmod 9 my data dropped. However these drops are kind of "invisible" because the system bar shows H/ G/ or else, but download/ upload arrows show only sometimes and if they don't, there's no data transmission. So I have to wait all the time until finally the system seemingly randomly decides to download stuff although there is a H/ G/ ... shown.
It worked with stock ROM and Bulletproof, but this issue arose when I flashed CM 9 and also persists with CM 10. Only thing I can find that looks like it can be similar to my problem is this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2034998
Today I updated my radio finally, but still no change. Checked APN settings, everything seems to be fine.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you tried changing your APN settings to a different one? I've had similar issues with CM to what you're describing, switched to internet2.voicestream.com, haven't had many problems since.
i had the same problem before and i called t-mobile and they took me thru step on reconfiguring the step so now i can talk and surf the web at the same time try that but if that doesnt work try reflashing the rom again
I've just been lucky and it works with CM 9 this time and continues to work through new flashes of CM 9. Well... Sadly I don't know what went wrong, but it works now
Still want to answer you guys for archival purposes and if someone looks for a solution... and thanks for replying, it means a lot to me!
I live in Germany and imported the phone, it hasn't been sold here. So I can't ask for technical support.
I looked after the APNs but they were already the ones described as by my carrier.
So... Problem solved... for now. And thanks again!

[Q] How is the Network Operator determined?

Hi Android-Guru's,
I need some help to research a weird issue that is happening for me on almost ANY custom ROM - mostly CyanogenMOD based, but it is consistent as well throughout all current KitKat builds including AOSP and MOKEE.
What happens is, regardless of which network operator I am connected to, the phone in status-bar and settings menu will always show my SIM card operator (Telekom.de). Even when I go to manual network selection menu and the list of operators is retrieved, I get a list of 6 x Telekom.de
Now the argument is correct, that this is cosmetic, it becomes tricky for me when I go abroad - which I do on a daily basis. So selecting the correct foreign network operator is crucial to save on roaming charges e.g. LUXGSM may be cheaper than TANGO, etc. however, I have no way to properly determine that, since the list will simply show 5 entries with "Telekom.de".
I have a XT925 (RAZR HD) and this works perfectly fine on stock. It works also perfectly fine on the early (10.2) CM releases. At some point starting with 4.3 firmware iterations, I started seeing the "wrong" - I researched google for hours and was directed to compare various eri.xml, spn-conf.xml and decompiled the framework-res.apk to see if maybe the methodology for displaying carrier name had changed between working and non-working builds, but couldn't find any difference.
So, since there are probably enough XT925 users out there, what are you seeing? Could this be related to my sim card which is fairly old (4-5years)? Where do I find the code behind carrier display in android?
appreciate your help,
Stefan

thanks for the feedback and the suggestion, Dorian - I tried it, but takes me to the regular network selection screen in the settings that just displays the list of "Telekom.de's" but good thought.
I wonder, what is different with my setup - might this be a baseband or modem issue?
I realized, that my phone number in status screen shows as "unknown" as well - but IMEI shows correctly, not sure if that is related.
still looking actively for an answer.. I tried to go back to stock with RSD Lite to see if any of my baseband or modem files is screwed, but I couldn´t get RSD to recognize my phone.. probably an indication that my device has some kind of issue!?
Anyone any ideas?

Blaze Signal Keeps Going Out Problem(On Any ROM!)

So here's my issue, my Galaxy S Blaze has been switched from ROM to ROM constantly, I have seen ROMS with modified build.props, other added features, and a bunch of other tweaks, you name it! I don't know what all those tweaks mean, I have no idea if it could affect the way my phone receives the signal but it got me so frustrated that I kept switching roms until finally then I went back to stock and am no longer am switching to another ROM.
Here's a history of the ROM switching I've made in the past couple of months:
1st - MIUI
2nd- Cyanogenmod
3rd- Gummy ROM
4th- Liquidsmooth ROM
5th- Cyanogenmod
6th- Dirty Unicorns (problems with signal started occurring right about here, and onwards)
7th- Stock ROM (hmm... nope nothing fixed.)
8th- Validus (still no, I didn't like the constant force-closing of many apps)
9th- Gummy ROM (nope, what's worse is my screen kept freezing if I had atleast 2 apps open and I slid down the notification drawer)
10th- Cyanogenmod (well, maybe switching to cyanogenmod will fix it)
11th- Gummy ROM (*sigh* switching back? Nope, still didn't help my signal)
12th- Stock ROM (you would expect it to be fixed right about here, but nope)
So what's up what is the exact problem with my signal? Here's the thing: My signal works! That's a start atleast. However, if I turn on my Wi-Fi while I'm home, I can still call/text people, all of that works. But after maybe 2 hours or so, the signal bar is still there, it's telling me it has signal and it's connected, SOMETIMES it will be empty meaning I have no signal(when I really do). But in reality, I can't receive texts, nor calls, none of that. So how do I fix it? By restarting my phone sadly, that has been the only solution for me for these past 2 months. People have complained to me because I don't answer my phone anymore, well I'm sorry my phone can't receive those calls due to this messed up signal. There are 3 other T-Mobile phones in the house that have no problem! The problem here is with my Blaze phone.
So what if I turn the Wi-Fi off for the whole day and see if it's the main thing causing the issue? Well, I did this. Turns out that the signal stays on longer than when I'm on Wi-Fi but it still goes out. I have switched SIM Cards, I have tried switching my APN: from "epc.tmobile.com" to "fast.t-mobile.com" but the problem appears to happen more quickly on the "epc" one than the "fast" one. Please help me with this, this has been frustrating me a lot lately. I'm not sure if anyone has even had the same exact problem that I'm having, I've searched online but haven't seen a similar problem.
Some of you might say, wow that is a lot of ROMS you've switched to, I'm sure there were more that I missed but that's as of recent. I can install ROMS correctly, I know how to use CWM when installing a .zip and using Odin when it's a .tar(or other supported file extensions). I've factory reset, wiped the cache, the dalvik cache, all before installing a new rom. After installing each rom, I've also factory reset and wiped the cache to make sure no other problems could affect the way the rom would work. Hopefully I did the procedure right, thanks for anyone who's willing to help me!
Right now I am running:
Baseband Version:
T769UVLH5
Kernel Version:
3.0.8-perf-T769UVLH5-CL990184

Android Version:
4.0.4
Another Issue is that I can't even transfer files to and from my phone when connected to my computer! This is another big issue, here are some images:

Here's what happens when I turn Wi-Fi Calling on but maybe it's just a built-in function that I forgot it had and it's probably normal:
http :// i.imgur.com/cTSqRci.png
By the way, sorry for the links just copy and paste them in a browser to and remove the spaces between the http :// and i.imgur, thanks! Unfortunately, I can't post links until I reach 10 posts. If the links don't work for you, I've also provided attachments.
Many thanks!!!
That last picture does show the proper function of Wi-Fi calling however I don't know what to say about the rest of your problems.

There are two things I would recommend trying...
1. Use Blackhole System Wipe
I know you've been following all the proper steps in CWM (and I would say to keep doing so), but I've added using Blackhole, in addition to the first steps, and I always get great system performance on my phone, and my parent's phones (I put them on ProvisionMod after stock was being stupid). It works well for pre installation for ANY ROM and helps prevent pesky issues. However, chances are, your issue is baseband related and this probably won't solve it... But still! You never know! It's worth a shot!
2. Reroot your phone
I know this will be annoying and pesky... but sometimes the process goes wrong from the beginning and starts giving issues later on... When I first rooted my mom's blaze, something went wrong, despite my following all the directions, and one of her partitions was completely disabled, no matter the ROM. I redid the process of rooting her phone (not from GB though... From the ICS stock) and fixed the issue instantly! I would try these two steps first and see if they do anything! Good luck!

Imperium_LL_Rom_OJ2_v11.0 unstable network issue

Hello everyone,
This is my first post o be gentle
I've installed a few weeks ago this ROM, i saw some threads before choose this one and im quite happy with it, i want to wait for a few more months before go for the newer v12.
Im having an isse that bothers me every now and then since ive installed this ROM. The network from nowhere simply goes out, the networks symbol remains there at the minimum level (just one small bar) but what's really happening is that there is no network at all, SMS, phone calls etc doesnt work. As soon as i notice that i have to restart the phone or enable and then disable "Airplane mode" and that's it , network is up again.
Is there any chance to solve this without installing the newer v12 that maybe, just maybe, have this problem solved?
I've downloaded this version:
Imperium_LL_Rom_OJ2_v11.0
My phone is an international GT-I9505, coming from CM11.2. I've installed everything from scratch so i believe nothing was left behind.
Thanks everyone!
Cheers

LineageOS questions

Been in the ROM/kernel scene for waaaaaaay too long and have constantly been told that I should use LineageOS (and its predecessor), esp on the Pixel devices that are no longer supported officially. However, LineageOS consistently fails me on every device, despite my being able to get everything BUT LineageOS to work. I've got to be missing something. Going to go through my experiences below...maybe someone can advice how the heck they get LineageOS to work for them on pixel devices?
Round 1: Nexus 6 (CM)
- Installed great
- No initial issues
- Randomly, phone would report "no sim" and stop working
- Reboots sometimes fixed the SIM issue, but sometimes didn't
- Calls lost because the SIM vanished, phone dropped data during a long drive, thus losing GPS access
- Random "service stopped" errors, usually regarding bluetooth
- Never resolved, even over a dozen different versions of CM (this was before Lineage, but same base)
Round 2: Pixel 2 (LOS 16?)
- Installed great, but had to be careful which gapps to use, as most were larger than the system partition
- No SIM errors right away, but a few reboots cleared it up
- Project Fi issues nonstop, with the phone unregistering several times a day
- SIM errors came back, saying my SIM is missing or damaged
- Overheating problems with the CPU. Appears to be the known bug with the CPU, but only appears in LineageOS
- Random "service stopped" errors, usually about the launcher
- Never resolved over different versions of LineageOS (last version tried was I think 16)
Round 3: Pixel 3 (LOS 17.1)
- ROM installs fine, but the notes say you need the Super Gapps to use Project Fi...but that Gapps doesn't fit in system. This seems like an oversight. Installed with smaller Gapps for testing, knowing there may be some Project Fi issues later. Each "try" below is a fresh reformat.
- First try, it popped up an error that there was a SIM, but it was damaged and unreadable. Could not continue. Told me to order a new SIM (the SIM's fine...). Lots and lots of errors about services crashing.
- Second try, it popped up an error that there was no SIM at all. It offered to just use wifi, which I accepted for testing. After downloading updates, it said the wifi doesn't work. Reboots, retries, just wouldn't work...even though it obviously had up to that point.
- Third try, it said my SIM was damaged again. This time it offered to activate eSIM online. Not sure why it hadn't said that previously, but ok. I tell it to activate...and it says the wifi is down. But...it isn't. Wifi working great, but can't activate the phone.
Overall, super frustrating and I can't imagine others are getting these errors, or LOS would have died out looong ago. How are others getting around these?!?

I just did a brand new install of a Lineage OS 18.1 nightly on my Pixel 3. I used NikGapps core since it has support for Android 11. I don't use Project Fi so I can't attest to that. So far everything has been running perfectly, with the exception of a few missing features or bugs I cannot figure out (small quality of life issues- nothing major). I too had issues in the past with CyanogenMod and I killed my old Motorola that way (probably user error though). I know you said your SIM is fine, but being that it has happened on 3 different devices... is it actually the same exact SIM? Might be worth the $10 fee or whatever to replace it. I haven't had a single error about any services crashing or stopping, perhaps I'm just lucky? One of the roms or gapps packages I was reading the notes on said you could install it in 1 or 2 different partitions, essentially making the size a non-issue. Stupidly, I can't remember which item I read that on, but it is apparently out there if you're willing to look.
I set up all my apps and stuff over WiFi and got the phone how I want it before plugging in my SIM card. I'm on T-Mobile. When I plugged in the SIM I didn't have to do any configuration at all it just works, even has WiFi calling. I don't have any apps on autoupdate and was careful about what "System" apps I toggled or installed from the play store. I'm afraid I can't help you much other than to tell you the nightly from 05-18-2021 doesn't give me the issues it seems to give you. Sorry bud!

Appreciate you looking at that. I haven't tried 18.1 yet, as I'm a bit gunshy after how bad 17.1 went for me. I'm strongly suspecting most of my issues go back to Project Fi...but it's not the SIM. I've actually bought 2 extra SIMs over the years trying to resolve this very issue. They all do the same thing on LOS.
Hadn't seen the splitting of gapps. That's news to me. Will look into that, as Project Fi requires the largest of the gapps...which is too big to fit into the system partition.

I'm running LOS 18.1 on my P3 blueline, running it for ages. I use OpenGapps Pico, and haven't had any issues to speak of. It took me a bit to figure out how to flash ROMs etc. on my P3 when I first bought it about 12 months ago, but once I got the hang of it, haven't had any issues.
LOS 18.1 seems very fast and responsive. Rooting with Magisk 23, running LSPosed through Riru, and even have Google Pay working like a charm. Android Auto working perfectly (patched with AIO and Scren2Auto so I can run virtually any apps on my car display if I want to).
Updates are fairly smooth; the only catch is I have to be careful to reflash the Magisk-patched boot.img before rebooting into the system, otherwise I lose root, and by extension, GPay stops working. I just update the ROM using ADB instead of the on-device updater, flash in TWRP recovery, then flash the patched boot.img in Fastboot ... reboot ... and Bob's your uncle.
I also have an old Nexus 7 (2013), and run LOS 18.1 on that 8-year-old tablet very nicely. It can be a tad sluggish on occasion, but for the most part it runs perfectly. The N7 is mostly my games/play machine. I use WiFi hotspot from the P3 when out and about to give the N7 internet access when needed - no problems.
All that to say ... Don't be afraid to try LOS 18.1. It's a fantastic ROM. Can't wait until LOS 19 builds start cropping up.

Good info. Have 18.1 also and have it set up to allow OTA updates and keep magisk and my gapps. Have only done 1 update that way but works perfectly, keeps magisk modules also.
Curious, which twrp are u using? Didn't think there was one available?
cheers

Not using TWRP, I'm just using LOS recovery. Sadly, it doesn't allow for doing backups, but it does the job otherwise.
Just an update BTW - currently running into issues with Google Pay/SafetyNet, but it's due to Google playing silly buggers with GPay again, not the fault of LOS.
