I know this likely isn't device specific, but why is this a thing? I've set notifications to only show icons on the lock screen and aod, since that's the closest setting to ticker notifications/upper left icons only. So why do I have to swipe first if there's always going to be room to enter the password right on that main lock screen? Has anyone found a fix for this? I came across a thread from Android central but their solution of removing smart lock didn't remove that feature for me. So I hoped someone else had another possible work around? Or does everyone else just deal with it... ?

Some months ago I came across a lockscreen idea which didn't put a separate lockscreen on the top screen, instead it simply locked the visible screen as is, and allowed display updates to show as though the screen isn't locked. A simple gesture unlocks the screen. I thought it a great idea but could not disable my own phone's lockscreen to use this app. Now I can disable my phone's own lockscreen but now I can't find this app!
Help please?
Found it, invisible lock. For some reason play store didn't bring that up when I searched almost those exact terms.

Pardon my ignorance, but I've been searching high and low for this answer. This is my first Android phone in 2 years (MyTouch 4G), and one thing that seems to be bothering me is the inability to view notifications if you setup a lock screen. I had a WP prior, and you could simply pull down your notifications tray, see a preview of a notification, touch to open, and you would be asked to enter your password to proceed.
Is there any alternative I can use, so I can see my notifications while on the lock screen? Preferably something that will turn the screen on when I get said notification.
Try "Snaplock" on the google play store

Wait for lollipop
I'm using floatify and it is a really beautiful designed app for notifications. You can choose between various styles and it shows accessible notifications on the lockscreen as well as system wide.

This app is awesome! Any chance you know how to get rid of all these "shortcut" apps? I'm kind of a minimalist.
Hey guys, I just got a Note Edge (loving it btw) and was wondering if there are any lock screen replacements with decent notification features (like Snaplock) that also allows unlocking by fingerprint? I quite like the look of the normal TouchWiz lock screen so something like the DashClock Widget would be perfect since it adds notifications by way of widgets instead of a whole lock screen replacement but I just found out that TouchWiz doesn't allow widgets on the lock screen apart from the default digital clock. Can someone offer some suggestions? Either a lock screen replacement that allows fingerprint scanning or some way to allow widgets on the lock screen after I root it. Thanks a lot!
Go setting....lock screen...under screen lock select finger print.

It's already built into the phone and works great for me. I also like how when using PayPal you can swipe your fingerprint to pay. Can't wait till you can lock different apps with the fingerprint, this would be super useful.

Sorry, maybe I didn't explain properly. I've already registered 3 fingerprints and they work quite well in the lock screen (a lot better than what I had read from some accounts prior to purchasing the phone). What I would like is to have notifications on my lock screen like what you'd get on an iPhone or through lock screen replacements like Snaplock or Next Lock Screen. The problem is, when I turn on one of these lock screen replacements in the settings, I get two lock screens. First the replacement lock screen appears with all the notifications and then after unlocking that through either swiping/pattern/pin (they don't support fingerprints), I get the system lock screen which allows me to use my fingerprint. Of course, I can just turn off the system lock screen but like I said, the other lock screen replacements like Snaplock or Next don't support fingerprints.

How can u set up paypal?
With the upgrade to Lollipop, you can now get notifications to show on the lock screen (Settings > Device > Sound and Notifications). Unfortunately, Samsung doesn't allow widgets to be used on the secure (fingerprint, PIN, pass, etc.) lock screens, so I am unable to put a weather widget on my lock screen. And since I have a corporate Exchange email account set up on my phone i can't opt-out of using a secure lock screen.
Like all of the other unfortunate AT&T customers that purchased a Note Edge, I got screwed over without the ability to root my device. I would really like to set my phone up the way I want it, as it should be.
And while i'm *****ing, why can't Samsung set up one of their Edge panels (briefing maybe?) to wake the edge screen and display notifications for SMS messages? Am I missing something, or wouldn't that be an ideal function to have with the edge screen? It's nice that they will allow sms notifications on the main lock screen now via lollipop, but why not put them on the edge screen where they should be on a device such as this?
If i'm missing something and there are ways to resolve my two complains please feel free to fill me in.

Thanks for that. I'm still trying to get my phone to update to Lollipop so maybe that will solve everything. I have a factory unlocked phone bought in Australia so from what I read, the update should've rolled out ages ago but it never seems to see it. Anyways, I'm downloading the update manually now via sammobile so let's see!

Totally agree with you. Even if we don't get whole text messages scrolled across the Edge screen, at least light up a few pixels there to show us there that there are notifications waiting. I have a cover that doesn't allow me to see the notification light next to the logo but has a slit cut out for the Edge so that would be perfect.
I have noticed after my latest factory reset that my lockscreen wallpaper is much dimmer than it was before. Has anyone else noticed something similar? Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?
In case anyone else has this issue, I found a fix to the problem over at Android Central from user Cajun_Fan:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s6-edge/514775-lock-screen-wallpaper-dark-instead-full-color.html
When you got it, in the Lock screen and security. If you had Swipe set as the screen lock type, did you set Unlock effect to none?
If you did, change it to one of the 2 choices and then try to go to the unlock screen. You should see your pic come up just like the pre-installed lock screen wallpapers. Then if you change the screen lock type to something else like Pin or fingerprint or any choice, it should show your pic bright, as long as you leave the unlock effect to either water droplet or sparkling bubbles.
I think it is a bug with using none on the unlock effect, that carries over to any mode of unlocking.
