I have a Z5 (latest software version) and simply want to root my device. How can I do it in the easiest and safest way? I have experience with rooting my Xperia Are S (device from 2011) but with the z5 it seems to be way to complicated and different.
I was reading about "DRM keys", what's that, is it important to save?
Furthermore, is it necessary to unlock my bootloader in order to get root? If yes: How can I do that? It's currently locked and I haven't found a way to unlock it.
After rooting, can I flash custom Roms aswell (like lineage with android oreo)?
I have the same problem. I have tried fastboot to unlock the bootloader but it does not detect the device.
Would we have to roll back our firmware to a working version? If so, how could we install this firmware, and which firmware would be the correct version to install?
ps Hadoujamal, if you find a solution please let me know.

Hi, I am new to XDA and this is my first ever post, so Devs, be easy on me.
I own a Sony Xperia SP device (c5302) which is currently running Android 4.3 (12.1.A.1.201) and I want to gain root access on my device.
I looked at several tutorials and videos and found that I need to have the Bootloader unlocked first of all. I am not sure about the exact procedure as every tutorial follows a slightly differently process.
Here are my questions as a newbie.
I want to know that what losses can I have if I try to unlock my bootloader?
After rooting, will I be able to get the same android and build version running on my device i.e. Android 4.3 and build 12.1.A.1.201?
Will I be able to get future updates from Sony that are shown in the phone as notifications as and when the updates arrive?
Is it possible to bring my phone back to the same condition it is in today? Like it was never rooted or the bootloader was never unlocked, because I want to avail warranty as well?
1. Warranty
2. Ofcourse
3. I think this is device / manufacturer specific...
4. You can always reflash to stock ROM, talking about bootloader some bootloaders can be unlocked but can't be relocked this is again device / manufacturer specific.
There are many threads about how to unlock and root but things get old much fast, I feel like FAQ is too old to follow.
I prefer ask before make same thing wrong.
I have a Moto G 4g with lollipop locked and orginal, so I decide to put new thing now because same things are annoying me in the phone, I think xposed can help me well, so I only need unlock and put root, but need to know the last way to do this, I know unlock is easy but what recovery to flash and how? What I need to root? Is there same problem with xposed in lollipop?
I did come from Razer D3 mediatek, had not unlocked bootloader but was easy to root and te best way to custom was with xposed, so im more "acquainted" with this.
any help on this would be appreciated.
Please someone answers!!
If your phone is not retail and your carrier locked your bootloader, it's not currently possible to unlock the bootloader or permanently root it. You can only temproot it currently.
If you want to flash a recovery your bootloader must be unlocked. You cannot flash anything with a locked bootloader. But if you wish to know, you can use TWRP or CWM for peregrine phones.
So basically I want to root my phone.
As mentioned in the title above, this phone of mine exists nowhere as per MY knowledge in being root-able.
This phone was able to be rooted in lower versions. Now I don't think it exists.
1) THE OFFICIAL SONY SITE, won't let me unlock the bootloader.
2) Without unlocking the bootloader I THINK I won't be able to flash a custom ROM.
3) I need help with this.
-Unlocking the bootloader.
-Rooting it
-Getting the best custom rom
-MAYBE being able to use Nougat.
So can anyone on this website kindly help me?
I am a noob and am pretty new, so my knowledge is low, but I am looking forward to root this device now.
Regards
I've no idea how this phone became a brick,
since it's unroot, s-on and the bootloader is locked ,too.
All was modified by my cousin,
and she doesn't know how to fix it.
I've tried to unlock bootloader, but I couldn't agree to unlock it,
every time I tried to choose Yes, the phone didn't reply.
However, if I choose No, it simply reboot to hboot mode.
Because of that, I guess I couldn't flash custom rom.
So, I think the only way to fix it is to find RUU or OTA or stock_rom.img ,
but I couldn't find them.
The only thing I found is the source code from htcdev.com.
link: dl4.htc.com/RomCode/Source_and_Binaries/primominiu-ics-3.0.16-40ba5ce.zip
Is there anyone who knows where to find them,
or any other way to fix it? (any system platforms are welcomed)

I've started learning about custom firmware and Xperia Z3 customization a day ago, since I couldn't stand the stock firmware. My current goal is to flash Lineage OS 14.1 on my D6603. And in the post it says it require an Upgraded Unlocked Bootloader. Now I do understand the Unlocked Bootloader part, but I'm not sure about the Upgraded part. And I've done some read around the forum and found one that refers to it but I'm not sure. Doing Google search didn't show too much information about it? The reason that I'm not doing more research is I'm kinda tight on time these day. So much appreciate to anyone can help.
Also my D6603 is currently running the latest MM build with Root access and Dual recovery installed.
The updated part refers to the latest official bootloader from the Sony Firmware .291.
It requires Sony Software called "EMMA" (instructions are easy to find).
Connect your device and flash the latest firmware to get the bootloader on your device.
Backup all your data in case something gows wrong (especially the one on internal storage as it gets wiped in the process I think).

Really appreciate your reply. Would that allow my phone's bootloader to be unlocked too? Because I've just read around a bit and according to the Sony's UnlockBootloader site, I can't unlock it. And I just don't want to be stuck with MM build.

if it says "unlockable - no " in your secret menu I guess it isn't ... but I never had to investigate this.
