Are there any apps that will read back to me whats on the screen?
i believe there is a setting on your phone that will do that. i think is in accessibility settings...text to voice or something like that

Yes there is but that reads everything you do out loud. I'm just looking for something that will just read like an article for me.
Try POCKET application
I use an app called t2s to read tech news articles to me while I'm driving

I wanted an application that could do this but all I could find was the one from blueAnt which only works with their specific bluetooth device...
You could use Tasker and use this profile - price looks high but it's VERY powerful once you know what you're doing.
Comes with a trial mode for around seven days.
+1 for Tasker. Brilliant app.
I have my 'in car' profile set to read texts - on text receipt it pauses the music player, then reads the senders contact name, and then the body of the text. Awesome.
i was planning on getting the blueant Q1 (just found it for $25). are you saying it won't work with handcent in reading a txt message?
edit: forget it...answered my own question by going to their site. "Hear text messages read aloud on your Q1 when connected to an Android device with our Android application."
What about the vlingo application. It has an email and sms reader that reads the message out loud when activated, but I haven't managed to get it to read the message through the Bluetooth headset

Wondering why SayMyName hasn't been mentioned yet... works fantastic even with caller names, mail, Twitter etc.

SMS Speak
Just stumbled across this thread looking for something else. But thought I'd chime in. I use SMS Speak (the paid one, not the free one - two different companies/products), and it works great. I can get incoming texts and reply, all orally. I'm curious about the other products mentioned, though...

Hi all, I have an idea for an app. You know how there are those "LED message wands" where you can enter some text message and when you wave it back and forth the message will be displayed in thin air? For example: http://www.amazon.com/LED-Magic-Message-Wand-Kit/dp/B0006HJSV4
Maybe this could be done on our phones as well. I've searched in the market and there's nothing like it. If someone has the time, I would love you if you made an app that can do it
The problem is that these wands require several LEDS in order to work.
My idea is that we use the screen of our phone, so we have plenty of "LEDs" right there
There is an app for that already. Look for bl:nk in the market. You'll have to be careful your phone doesn't fly away from your hand when waving it.

Oh, thats awesome! I tried looking for something like this, I guess it was buried way down in the results
Thanks Max
Hmmm I tried out bl:nk and I think it's severely limited. It can only draw out simple shapes.. Here's to hoping someone on xda can write an app that can draw messages
Just spent 30mins trawling the market for an app that records your talking in your sleep.
Found a few but with crap reviews.
Just want a recorder that switches on if it hears a noise, then closes off after a given period of time.
Anyone know of such an app?
Cheers

Should not have been so hasty...
Think I've found what I want
RL Watcher
Still, if you know of any others, please let me know.
Sleep as an Droid does this, quite successfully, although it's main purpose is sleep tracking and it's not free ($1.5).
Haha what a cooL idea i will test it this night

Had a look at this myself but got frightened off after reading some of the services that are accessed after installation:-
Services that cost you money
Directly call phone numbers
Send SMS messages

Yeah, it gives you the option to send recordings via email and also alert of events via SMS or phone call. - Not that I'm gonna use any of that.
I did use it last night and it seems OK, but just been looking at Sleep as a Droid as recommended above and it looks great. Don't mind paying for a decent app

Hi there...
I will like to enable the Skyrocket to read SMS. I enable the Driving Mode, but the cell phone only says:
"New Message from ________"
But doesn't read the content of the message. I'm using Spanish language, you think that may be the reason?
Do I need an application or something additional??
I've install "Titanium Backup" and "SuperUser". Do they affect this function??
Thanks and regards...
No they dont affect the function. Go on the market and download vlingo. When vlingo is in car mode it will read texts too you. You can also speak text replys
Thanks for your answer! Vlingo seems to work.
Although, I'm kind of intrigued why the GSII applicattion doesn't work...
What I don't like about Vlingo, it's that it seems to need Internet Connection for "listening". I know, that depending on what I order, it would need internet, but not for calling or texting for example. Is there a way to change that?
What GSII app doesn't work??? any examples..

Maybe I misspelled it. What I meant it's that when I enable "Driving Mode", the content of the text messages are not read.
That's what intrigues me, since it's suppose that it does read the content.
Or is it that it needs a complement like "Vlingo"??
Thanks...
So I have been searching for hours trying to find a app that basically does the following.
When I receive a text message I would like for my phone to speak "you have a new text message from ...contact name... Would you like to hear the message?"
Then I could say yes or no depending on the location and the contact the message was from. Then be able to respond or not.
I have seen many apps that can read texts and respond with no problem but sadly none ask before reading the entire message.
Surely I can't be the only one that would like this functionality on their nexus 5.

I'm surprised that AVX and utter! don't have that functionality.
Thanks actually AVX can do it it's just not very easy to figure out the settings to set it up. Still sounds very crude and old school but it works.
