[Q] Record talking in your sleep - General Questions and Answers

Just spent 30mins trawling the market for an app that records your talking in your sleep.
Found a few but with crap reviews.
Just want a recorder that switches on if it hears a noise, then closes off after a given period of time.
Anyone know of such an app?
Cheers
Bryan

Should not have been so hasty...
Think I've found what I want
RL Watcher
Still, if you know of any others, please let me know.

Sleep as an Droid does this, quite successfully, although it's main purpose is sleep tracking and it's not free ($1.5).

Haha what a cooL idea i will test it this night

Had a look at this myself but got frightened off after reading some of the services that are accessed after installation:-
Services that cost you money
Directly call phone numbers
Send SMS messages

Yeah, it gives you the option to send recordings via email and also alert of events via SMS or phone call. - Not that I'm gonna use any of that.
I did use it last night and it seems OK, but just been looking at Sleep as a Droid as recommended above and it looks great. Don't mind paying for a decent app

Not to break the streak, but it doesn't work for me After a 2-3 minutes, I get a popup that says "the process com.htc.bg: has stopped unexectedly. Please try again" and makes me force-close it.

you have too many fb friends.
This happened before and was tested and retested with a few people...
As funny as that seems, you just have too many for it to sync lol
(at least that was the case with the 4 other people that had this error)
So that feature is just completely unusable because of the # of friends I have on facebook? That's crappy enough to make me consider taking the phone back!
What/where is the memkill setting?

That's what my tests pointed to....
Anyways, try Autokiller from the market, use the presets and set it lower.

lol... you'd really like so many contacts linked to your phonebook???? wow
I only have about 500. Not even close to 1000...
What specific settings to I change in Autokill?
Although my Facebook contacts have updated, I no longer see Updates in the Updates and Events tab of the people app. I see events (birthdays) but no updates.
Is this an issue that needs to be addressed does anyone know ?
The problem is the memory killer is basically shutting off the auto sync for facebook. So what you need to do is download the app in the market called "Auto Killer" and you can save the values that damageless has put in place, or You can just hit Menu -> Presets and set it to default then try syncing.
Wait a few mins or more like 30 just to make sure that everything is done. Then if you want to you can set it back to the values that Damage had on there. Or just set it to a preset of Aggressive

Welcome to talk to me on talk about it, It worked for my friend

that many FB friends?
Do you really want 500 of your FB friends to be in your phonebook? Do you really call them all? I'm trying to find a way to lower to my ACTUALL friends, not FB friends.

When you put it in "InCar" mode you can say "Hey Vlingo" to wake it up and use voice commands.
FYI, this works on the VZW with the Incredible with no problem..

Also, it works! The new Google program is about 1/10 in getting what I say right.
Vlingo is (so far) about 5/5. I like that if it doesn't find what you're saying locally, it does a (very fast) internet search.
any word on making it work for other android devices? ie the g-1

Works great on the dinc. I appreciate the share!
thank you so much for sharing this app with the community. I have been fooling around with it for half an hour or so and it does some pretty awesome things. LOVE the in-car feature, completely hands-free and works perfectly, even reads and writes text messages for me. "hey vlingo"
Edit: Forgot to add, very accurate, even with names
Wow, the incar mode is really REALLY good. Anybody know how to have it differentiate between a contacts home and cell when sending a text message?
Say call blah blah mobile. That should work.

Google's voice search sucked at recognizing what I was saying for the first week or so, but then it got a lot better. I'm wondering if it learns your voice or something. Vlingo, on the other hand, worked well on day one. However, while it does a good job of recognizing what I am saying, it doesn't always give me the results I wanted. For instance, movie times never come up even though that's one of the examples the app shows, and it displays my exact phrase correctly (movie times near #####). It just says "No answer found". And I've also had trouble getting it to dial the right phone number for a contact. It's like it ignores when I say "mobile."
I'm having the same problem. It ignores when I say "mobile" after the contacts name. My g/f is getting irritated with the text to landline messages that repeat "test" lol
Is it necessary to install the standard Vlingo app before installing the incar pack?
I´ve been trying to download the installer but i still cant find it, it´s not in the market either.
It would be much if I ask to share the installer?

? It's in the second post of this thread.
anyway to successfully have this running in the background with the in-car? Currently it seems that the program has to be on main screen for me to say "Hey Vlingo" and it wakes...
Plus..too bad I cant say Jarvis to have it wake up
Instead of 'mobile' try saying 'cell'.

Right now the best way is to make two contacts for the person and label one cell and one home after the name. Best workaround at the moment.

Yeah, I went ahead and did that the other day, but thanks! Hopefully that will get sorted.
It would be nice if you could ask it to use your GV # by default as well.
i wonder if there is any way to train a contact that it gets wrong every time. Wifes name is tricky and unless i use her last name first it misses it every time.

Any application that can read SMS' out loud (possibly through a bluetooth device?)??

I wanted an application that could do this but all I could find was the one from blueAnt which only works with their specific bluetooth device...
You could use Tasker and use this profile - price looks high but it's VERY powerful once you know what you're doing.
Comes with a trial mode for around seven days.
+1 for Tasker. Brilliant app.
I have my 'in car' profile set to read texts - on text receipt it pauses the music player, then reads the senders contact name, and then the body of the text. Awesome.
i was planning on getting the blueant Q1 (just found it for $25). are you saying it won't work with handcent in reading a txt message?
edit: forget it...answered my own question by going to their site. "Hear text messages read aloud on your Q1 when connected to an Android device with our Android application."
What about the vlingo application. It has an email and sms reader that reads the message out loud when activated, but I haven't managed to get it to read the message through the Bluetooth headset

SMS Speak
Just stumbled across this thread looking for something else. But thought I'd chime in. I use SMS Speak (the paid one, not the free one - two different companies/products), and it works great. I can get incoming texts and reply, all orally. I'm curious about the other products mentioned, though...

[App] RemotifyMyDroid (my 3rd FREE app)

Hello Everyone,

and go to RemotifyMyDroid (1st link) and it contains some screen shots to.
also have a look at my other FREE 2 applications there
your feedback is appreciated
Yazan.
Sounds great, but I think setting this up might be a tad harsh for general use (firewalls etc). I would suggest building an intermediary platform (web service) to communicate to. That way you can have a very easy setup. For instance, you can use the Google login service to identify yourself from the phone and the notification program and that's it then. No IP's or port numbers as most users don't know what that is anyway.
But for the techies, good start.
Cheers

What a great find... The integration with Growl will be excellent on my HTPC. Also, this allows easy integration with EventGhost through Scripty.

its not a waste of time, and for sure i have learned couple of things while developing this app, its not a waste at all.
otherwise you will see a single app for each purpose ... on pc\mobile ...
one more thing .. why do you think there is Windows , Linux and Mac??
could not other parties just SAVE there time and NOT develop another OS!!!!

Using bluetooth maybe ? PC as a handset (would have to be paired before)
I understand then distance range would come as a limit for many use cases, but could still be enjoyable instead of standing up to pick up the phone !

Looking for feedback on my very first app

I just finished publishing my very first app, Voice SMS Replier, and would like some feedback. The purpose of the app was to imitate the Genius Button's Handsfree mode (since no one seems to have ported it to any ICS ROMs and I'm too dumb to figure out how I can use the apk file to debug it in eclipse). I'd like some feedback such as bugs and easy or useful features and options I could add.
Since this is my first post I can't post links, but you fill find it in the Play Store.
Downloading now ill let you knoe

Used this for about 4 hours today, and it didn't intercept any of the ~100 texts I received. I really couldn't figure out if it did anything or if it was my error. Running ICS 4.0.3 ROM if that helps.

I don't think I ever had it open while the phone was awake. It was usually open behind the lock screen. I'll give it another go tonight when I get home and hopefully have some better feedback.
Since you're looking to make this a vehicle app, maybe in the next update prevent the phone from going to sleep?

That's an excellent idea, I'll do that.
I'd like more feedback. I lost my key, so I can't update this app. The new new version is called SMS By Voice. I added the ability to run a service in the background, and wake up the phone.
