Root & TWRP when ? - Moto G7 Power Questions & Answers

I really need TWRP, but it needs a custom version right ?
Also has somebody got root with magisk yet ?

I have managed to get root on G7, and the way to get root on G7 Power is similar (read my posts on G7 section)
Unfortunately, I don't know how to build TWRP or I can make custom recovery for all three variations

Unfortunately it seems like we currently lack stock ROM images for the European Retail version (RETEU2), which makes using Magisk to root that variant currently not safely possible.

Are you able to get the full ROM?
You should look up your model number to find matching ROM
The best bet is to get "RETAIL" , but you should get ROM of your version just in case you want to revert it back

Many thanks to Mingkee. I just got root access following his directions on the G7 forum. The different step was that I had to download a previous version of stock ROM, once the current version has not leaked. :good:

Do you have the American version?

I have the Brazilian stock firmware (xt1955-1 version PPO29.80-27). Sorry.

It seems this one is the us retail stock firmware. The link above was obtained from kfhost.net/artigo/firmware-motorola-moto-g7-power-xt1955-1-android-9-pie

I just got root on my g7 power using mingkee's instructions for the g7. It says bad key on startup, but still works just fine!

I have root as well from mingkee's guide in the g7 forum.

It's rather strange issue because I see same error even I flashed bone stock boot.img when doing manual update G6 to Pie.

The bad key message appeared to me after I had the bootloader unlocked. To unlock it I just followed this: techdroidtips.com/unlock-bootloader-moto-g7/

Download Links
Best place to look for your stock rom is here:
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/ocean/official/

if somebody has the "RETEU2" moto g7 power and rooted it, see if you can change your wifi region using root so that 5Ghz Wifi can be supported. I read somewhere about it, that the current Wifi region doesnt support 5Ghz and i really need it for my moto

Didn't see this before, but yes the "bad key" note pops up on all Moto phones that have bootloader unlocked. I have had 4 different Moto phones and each one has had the "bad key" message before booting.

Is anyone working on a TWRP for this? I'm happy to buy and ship a phone to a reputable forum member if there is a need for the physical hardware.
Alternatively if there is an easy way to get xposed and xprivacy lua installed on this device without TWRP, that's all I need. I don't care about passing safetynet checks.

I've got a root guide over in the discussion threads.

[FXZ] Stock Verizon Nougat addison_verizon_oem_vzw 7.0 AND 7.1.1

These are the whole firmwares to be flashed independently. No need to do 7 before 711.
Anyone that uses this to upgrade the Chinese phone to Nougat please post how you did it. There are many waiting for a solution.
I copied the whole Mac directory for 711. There are many support files there and a backup & restore apk which will not work stand-alone.
From Mac upgrade assistant.
I zipped the folder from: User/library/application support/.msu/addison_verizon_oem_vzw_user_7.0_NDNS25.137-24-1-4_4_release-keys-cid2_vzw
March patch.
BTW it updates without any data wipe or option to data wipe if you wanted to! Via the assistant that is.
Unlike Moto's recommendations, go figure...
BTW, BTW
Anyone know if apps can be extracted from a FXZ?
I only used this from the upgrade assistant and it did not wipe any user data.
There were some fastboot files (and such) in the .msu folder but when I went back later to show hidden files on wifes El Capitan msu was gone. I was at risk of great peril messing with wifes Mac. My Lion will not run it.
How it it working for everyone?
Request,
Could some kind soul upload Nougat apps (and privapps) from a Z and Z force?
I use them as fake apps in the Play, a way of disabling sys apps.
Root is not needed, more if you need help

Do you know if these non original MM retla or what ever firmware they have, could do the same as you did?
Gearbest is one retailer that passes these as normal phones.

Yekollu was particle right, but if we unlock bootloader on 1635-03 we can easy flash fw for other region on our phones.
I think they have retail, flashed by Gearbest and - if they have unlocked bl - they can flash any other region's ROM with RSD LITE. BUT I THINK - if they Don't wanna to have bricks - they must flash FW only with RSD lite.. )
---------- Post added at 09:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:43 AM ----------
By the way - if people just want to have 7.1.1 - it will be better for them - to flash TWRP and any custom ROM with it.
Anyway - they will not get OTA update on any custom stock based ROMs. And it will be better for them- don't try to sideload OTA via ADB.

Hi, I have a XT1635-03 on retcn channel, my device is encrypted, I have the dual sim version it runs on android 6.0.1, I've never rooted it and I'm not planning to... I have a few questions and I would be very thankful if you could answer them:
1)do you have the dual sim version? do both sims work fine after the update?
2)did you flash the rom straight from 6.0.1?
3)are there any issues like with camera, notification sound, swipe to shrink screen,...?
4)why do you suggest for the Chinese version users to flash a stock based custom rom with TWRP? it doesn't give you update capability or factory reset option!
5)is there a specific way to unlock the bootloader "officially"?
6)what's with the bat file you talked about? (sorry I'm kind of a noob)
7)the link you mentioned doesn't have the 7.1.1 version... isn't it better to flash the rom provided on this thread?
I'm sorry to ask this many questions... thanks in advance

1. I have dual SIM version. Both sim cards works perfectly
2. At first I flash a lot of AOSP / LOS based ROMs ))
3. I have no any issues.
4. If you ll try to get OTA - you could have brick. So - don't use updates.
5. Yes. Just Google it
6. It's flash(or something like).bat - file in archive.
7. I'm taking about this ROM. It will be better and more safety to flash it for newbies.
You can also try ROM from this thread, but it have to many Verizon apps..

thanks so much for the help...
so if I flash the rom from this thread and try to update it later, I'll probably have risk of a hard brick, is that correct?
I only prefer this rom compared to one you mentioned because this one here is "stock", it's more reliable, and I don't need to install TWRP... so considering these, tell me if it's still better for me to flash the stock based custom rom from "flashallthtime" (the one you mentioned)

SM-J327U(nlocked) variant - unlocked bootloader, what now?

So I just picked this phone up from Best Buy, it was cheap and unlocked. Already have it working with a T-Mobile SIM. I'm somewhat new to Samsung devices, but I'm pretty sure this means it's an unlocked bootloader too.. In Developer Options there is a switch for "OEM unlock," which allowed me to flash TWRP built for the SM-J327P, ending up in a nice bootloop.
Anyway that's not the point, I used Samsung KIES to reflash a stock image and it's back to normal.
Assuming this bootloader is unlocked, what do I need to flash to get root? Does this mean I have to build TWRP myself?

You can use J327T one for some strange reason the j327U one doesn't work but if you just boot up into that one it should give you root
Can i flash this firmware on the j327T to bypass Google account FRP just like you can flash SM-950U1 firmware on the SM-950U to do the samething? Just a random thought.

How can I get back to G955USQU5CRIB firmware. I think I may have rooted too early. Sprint didn't unlock the phone yet and I'm unable to flash to verizon.
My original plan was to flash from Sprint to Verizon so the phone could be used on that carrier. However, I'm stuck with Sprint software and the phone, although rooted is still locked to Sprint.

The bootloader version is the 5th number from far end of your current firmware 3 or higher cannot be rooted and the only method is partcyborg rom
there is no downgrading or nothing
if you have to have root get another device
you cannot use cf auto root or flash twrp as we have locked bootloaders
if the bootloader gets unlocked then yes cf auto root and junk will work then

Yea, I've had it for so long stock, just upgraded to s10+ and decided to just keep this as a secondary because it's still solid, no a single issue
(long time root user, webOS, epic touch 4g, then all even galaxy S devices) root was so fun!
Thanks for the post my friend, maybe someday this version will be cracked

SM-G930U root for v9 Bootloader "G930UUEU9CSA3"

i got the latest security update via OTA and an now running the G930UUEU9CSA3 firmware, ive tried flashing the eng boot img i originally used to root from here "https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/how-to/root-s7-s7edge-oreo-nougat-t3819616" but odin fails every time, i'm pretty sure its because the new security update updated the bootloader also... to version 9. now i guess my question is are there any eng boot files for the v9 bootloader available yet? or any other usable root methods available?

That wasn't very clever was it.
Should never update branded unless it's to fix a major bug. Any loophole which allows root or flash is closed on an update until someone figures out how to root on the new boot loader.
I think the best advice to anyone on US networks is to flash unbranded and go from there.

I'm fairly certain that the only twrp for the s7 is a temporary one because there is no unlock for the bootloader, and even still the temp twrp is only compatible with the v4 bootloader and I am currently on v9.... that is unless I'm mistaken if I am then please someone correct me and point me in the right direction because I'd love to be running magisk on my s7 : )

That wasn't very clever was it.
Should never update branded unless it's to fix a major bug. Any loophole which allows root or flash is closed on an update until someone figures out how to root on the new boot loader.
I think the best advice to anyone on US networks is to flash unbranded and go from there.

No it most definitely was not very clever at all and unfortunately I'm stuck : / Also is the G930UUEU9CSA3 firmware not unbranded?

Yes it is I didn't read properly. Anyway what odin are you using to flash? The modified one?
We are talking about a qualcomm device yes?

Yes I'm using the modified Odin and all my previous attempts at flashing the eng boot files via Odin on the v8 bootloader have been successful, it wasn't until after the OTA that I started having issues.
And yes this is Qualcomm : )

Hmmm so it may be that loophole is now closed, what you need to think about is if you deffo need root? Or is it just nice to have. I'm sure a dev will get round it soon.

Okay I was completely unaware of TWRP being an option or the possibility of Magisk with a locked bootloader, now to clarify I'm running the latest unbranded US Region firmware for the US T-Mobile version of the Qualcomm Galaxy S7 "(TMB) G930UUEU9CSA3" that being said I have a few questions about how to specifically to proceed if you don't mind helping me?
First is the version of Odin available from the post provided above inst the modified version I've been required to use for all my previous flashing "Odin3_v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD" should I use this one or the version provided in the post above "Odin3_v3.13.1"?
My next question is that all the different versions and variants of TWRP available for my device the Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge are either for Exynos Canada/International or Korea or the Chinese Qualcomm variant of each. Should I download and use the TWRP for the Chinese Qualcomm S7?
The sammobile link in the original post for "Android 8.0 Oreo Stock Rom" provides me with a list of the latest and up to date international versions of firmware for the Galaxy S7 Edge "SM-G935FD" I'm assuming I should just use the stock firmware image for my device "SM-G930U" instead?
The link for the no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0 is dead but I don't think its needed because of something someone said in the original post about this method failing after latest security update "the one I'm on" https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78115895&postcount=18 he said he solved it easily with information and another flash able zip from this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77000849&postcount=47 and the zip from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76564735&postcount=37
All that being said I haven't attempted anything yet, I'll try the above method as I understand it later this evening and I'll post my results

Hello there, i deleted most of your post because i didn't want my post to be huge. So if i just give you some guidelines hopefully you can have a look around for the files you need.
1. For Qualcomm / snapdragon devices you must always use the patched version of Odin you already have. Now this version of Odin can be dangerous if you don't flash the correct firmware for your device because it ignores device mismatch and other safety measures the normal Odin checks for before flashing. Which brings me to.....
2. Anything for G935 will not work for G930 including TWRP, you must always use firmware, patches twrp which specifically says it for G930 Qualcomm/snapdragon devices.
3. The China/ Korea Qualcomm/snapdragon devices are exactly the same as the US devices, anything working on the China / Korea devices will work on the US device.
Now i know you want to root unbranded on V9 but as you are on the T Mobile network it may be easier to flash and root T Mobile Oreo for the time being until there is a workaround root for V9 unbranded.
All of the threads you linked to were for G935 devices and i've mentioned you can't use those patches BUT the process and step by step instructions you follow are the same for your device. So you can follow those guides as long as you are using the patches for your device.
There is a Snapdragon section on this forum so thats a good place to look.
I've had a quick look for this specific firmware and can't find anything about rooting the U9 version yet.....
I'm just checking this firmware G930UUEU9CSA3 your running did have either XAA or USC code next to it when you downloaded? I've noticed Verizon, AT&T and Sprint are using the same firmware VZN, ATT, XAS.

I'd be interested to know how this turned out if the device with V9 bootloader could be rooted with temp TWRP method.
Can i actually flash magisk on my 930u?
Is there any way to root my g930t ?
I'm on v9 bootloader, and i don't care about knox tripping.
Did developpers really failed to break the security of this little old device ? Or no one worked it ?

Would this info be applicable to edge models as well? Pretty sure our moderator has moved on as he is disgusted with samsungs persistance in blocking root with new bl versions. Im on an unlocked tmo s7 edge with the u firmware as well.

You answered my questions. Thanks.
I installed this today, and not without fault. It would not flash the radio - vbmeta patched or otherwise. With that said, everything seems to be working, so *shrug* This was installed on a US Moto One ACE 5G NA
What did you do about

Let me see if I understand. The vbmeta did not flash, but it still works? Was any other work around needed?

Nono, I flashed a patched vbmeta (why I dont know... its for boot stuff) after the initial flash failed. When that made no difference, I just removed the entry for the radio from my flash.cmd file so as to skip it altogether. Everything seems fine, however I noticed that if you run the radioinfo activity under Phone Services, no user input is allowed. I'm not certain that not flashing the android 11 firmwares radio.img has anything to do with this though. I'm on VZW, and am getting all bands it appears. IE: i'm getting both LTE and 5G

Good question ;-) I'd tell ya but then I'd have to kill ya. No seriously, here on XDA if memory serves correctly. I back up everything
They just recently added support for 5g on AT&T

Which r/w script did you use? I tried both of the ones that I could find and neither work it causes a bootloop. Could you link the one that you used specifically?
I used the one that is about half the way through the guide in the guides section for this phone. It has worked every time. The newer ones cause trouble.

Not correct. I am using it in Texas. Retus means retail US. I bought my phone unlocked from Amazon. I have also unlocked the bootloader. I don't know if that matters for this update.
