AT&T Galaxy Note 8 (SM-N950U) Mobile Data connection switch - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

I would like to know how to get the data connection switch on the notification pannel?
I can only enable or disable data connection in Settings > Connections > Data Usage > Mobile data and it's so boring doing this every time I want to enable or disable the connection.
The phone is not rooted and on build CRL1.
Sorry if similar questions have already been asked. I just didn't find.
Thank you.

I was able to add it in until the last update I did. You can Google it but you just need a laptop and be able to know how to do adb commands. You basically do a command and it pulls a list up of all the quick settings. You then add in mobile data and run another command and it will then be in the dropdown. I had it working months ago before a update and after the update it stopped working. My workaround now is I made a system shortcut on my homescreen and it goes right to where the box is to check to turn on and off.

Please follow this, it worked fine for me just today - https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...samsung-galaxy-s6-s7-s8-note8-adding-t3757211

Setting Data Connection on by default - any way to do it?

I have Windows Live Mobile installed so after a soft reset, the program automatically attempts to make a data connection. However, the data connection tab in the comm manager is set to off by default, so a connection can't be established.
Is there any way on the AT&T Fuze to set the data connection on by default?
Thanks....and yes I searched "data connection default" but didn't see anything related to this problem.
Advanced_Configuration_Tool_v3.3 or Diamond Tweak 0.5.3 have an option to have data always ON. However, this will kill your battery in no time
thanks for your help. i have those programs, but i'll look them over again.
EDIT: i looked at both and don't see an option to always have a data connection enabled. under data, you can obviously enable various connections and i already have those set. but i don't see the option to always have the connection on.

Funny how I'm trying to do the opposite. For some reason my data turns on by itself. I turn it off and a few minutes later it turns itself on again. It's really a battery drainer.
If anybody knows how to change it so it will default to off, please post. Thanx.

Certain apps/functions will need data access depending on their polling settings. Email and weather, for example. I disabled the auto updates for those and am hoping to see the data connection stay OFF when I set it.
Hope this does the trick.
I had to configure a bogus network so the device wouldn't get anywhere even if it tried... because it would seemingly reactivate at will.

Data Connection Automatically Opens

Hi All,
Im new here and very new to Windows Mobile (So far the experience has been great)
I have been trying to figure how to disable the data connection opening automatically (By a request from an application)
I disable the data connection from the Settings > Communications, however for example Garmin just re opens the connection for me (Which is rather expensive from were i am from)
As a work around i stay removing the Data Connection Profile and re creating it every time i need to use it once again...
Any ideas since its getting quite annoying..
Thanks!
search for NOGPRS cab. great program. lets you toggle for when you need it or dont./
Thanks for the Tip m8

App for blocking mobile data connection?

As per the title...
I'm currently on holiday in Canada and using the hotel WiFi - but it keeps dropping out and my phone connects itself using 3G. Data on my O2 contract is £6per mb - so I don't want to be surfing on that! Because Opera or Skyfire take up the whole screen, I can't see when itsdropped out of WiFi, so my bill is already likely to be huge!
Is there an app to prevent my phone connecting over 3G / Edge etc?
Cheers...

Can't you just activate the "no data on roaming" option?
Otherwise, you can install NoData, or Manila dial-up enabler/disabler.

Hi.
Use this to disable the data connection. Originally from MoDaco forum....i think.
This is how I did it, taken from the HTC support site:
How do I disable my 3G/GPRS Data Connection?
Follow the steps below to ensure that your phone will never connect to a GPRS/3G Data Connection.
1. Go to Start > Settings > Menu > All Settings > Connections > Connections
2. Tap Add a new modem connection > then under Select a modem, select Celluar Line (GPRS) > Name the Connection "Offline" >Tap Next.
3. In the Access point name text box input "Offline" and tap Next.
4. On the next page tap Finish.
5. On the second Connections Menu, tap Manage existing connections and select "Offline" then click OK.
Re-enable the data connection if you want to connect to the internet via 3g/Edge.
1. From the home screen, slide to the Settings tab, Wireless Controls > Data Connection.
2. Select your Country and Operator
3. Tap OK.
4. On the subsequent screen, tap Yes.
The phone will automatically configure itself with the appropriate settings.
Note: When disabling the connection in this way, your phone may report errors when trying to connect to "Offline." The error is caused by the phone being unable to connect to a data source due to the settings, and is normal.
yeah well it's pretty much the same when you remove all settings - it tries to connect but it can't and an error message pops up when it tries to connect. i just can't figure why it's trying to connect in the first place when i've stopped all data services available in the settings tab and there are no applications running according to the task manager? i want it to stop trying to connect cuz its freaking anoying.

Rumz82, I know it's been a while since the last post, just for you to know that CAB saved me some money, because everytime I travel to another country I have roaming data charges, even if everything is disabled.
If I'd have searched here before, I could have saved some money indeed...
Thank you a zillion.
Best regards!

How to delete saved wifi connection?

On my S5, all saved wifi connections were visible in the wifi settings page. On the S7, it seems that only the connections within range are visible. If you go into the data usage / restrict networks, every saved wifi connection is displayed, but there is no way to delete them from there. It seems that there is no way to delete a saved wifi connection once it goes out of range. Anyone know how to do this?

Exactly the same issue here. Anyone got any workarounds (non-root)? Third party apps don't seem to work. Pretty ridiculous that you can't forget a saved network and causes a serious issue for me: I have to change my password at work and can't forget the WiFi AP before getting to the office so I'm locked out of my work account...
It is a bit annoying but I can't see how it's a problem?
How are you locked out of your work account?
You can change password when you are in range.
What's the other issue?

The problematic are Hotel / Airport / etc. Hotspots...
When i received my S7 i "load" an backup from my old android phone... I few days earlier i returned from a long holiday trip and so the "restore-backup" created a lot of hotspots an my S7 i never never need and i'm not able to delete ....
(OK - i can start for a second trip, visit all places and delete hotspot when connected... ) <-- ironic

We use exchange authentication for WiFi at work. The phone automatically tries to connect using the old password as soon as i'm near the office. Does this three times and locks my ability to use the WiFi. This is before i have chance to see it and forget it in the WiFi settings. Such a simple omission in the UX makes this even an more annoying issue.
Yeah OK the work thing sounds a bit troublesome. I would turn off wifi before I go then turn it on when I'm ready and forget the network before it connects.
...
The holiday wifi hotspot thing i don't get still.
Why is that a problem? You can't see the networks anyway. Is it just an ocd thing?
well you have a drastic option, if nothing else works
go settings>backup and reset>reset network settings
this will erase all your wifi, as well as all bluetooth and data connections saved
Sent from my SM-G930F using XDA-Developers mobile app

just done that myself, all my connections disappeared, it works fine, you should try that

The problem with the holiday Hotspots is at least not a real problem... But I don't like this.
I would prefer a function to delete Hotspots even when I'm not connected to them...
(maybe it is small security issue, because a common SSID can be used to connect with my phone...)
Wifi Manager - choose Known network, then remove.
I reported this to Samsung support. That's the only way to get them to fix it. The more people report it, the more likely they are to fix it sooner.
As for whether it's a "problem", I suppose it's not immediately a show stopper. However, after only a couple of weeks, I accumulated a lot of hotspots that clutter up the restrict networks page. Who knows, if too many build up it could cause an problem. There is no reason for Samsung to have implemented it in this way. I've never seen a device (mobile or pc) that did this.

Thanks, but Android 6 only allows you to forget those networks that you've connected to using the same app. So you can only forget those that you connected to with WiFi Manager, not the in-built settings.

Edit: you're correct. I think root and find where file or db that stores the SSID would be the next option.
Edit 2: Get a root editor, backup /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf, then edit it to either remove the entire SSID entry, or set autojoin to 0. There may be root apps that does this.
The plain text passwords are also stored in that supplicant file.
I don't think there is any non-root solution until Samsung changes the Wifi settings to show out-of-range SSIDs. I agree that it is silly for it to not do have this feature at all.
2 solutions so far (?)
Hi,
if you have a non rooted S7 there is no build in possibility to delete the saved wifi connections if you are out of range. Samsung has to fix this in my opinion.
With Marshmallow you can only delete wifi networks with the same app you created them, so third party apps like wifi manager do not work. So far there might be two solutions which work, both are far away from being perfect.
- First solution is to delete ALL network connections...and start from the beginning (1. Go to settings -> 2. Bakup and reset -> 3. Reset network settings -> 4. Follow on screen instructions)...including bluetooth etc.
- Second solution is not fine either. Take a third party app like wifi manager from Kostya on play store and list all known networks. Then set up a (fake) wifi access point with the SSID you want to delete. Once they are in range, you can delete the saved wifi connection. You have to repeat this for every SSID you want to delete.
Best regards,
Alexander

can not remove!
I updated my S7 today (with Sprint) to Android 7, and they fixed this. Out-of-range WiFi networks are listed under the "Manage Networks" options and can be removed from there.

Took me a while to find this as well!
Apps > Settings > Connectivity > Mobile > Mobile ON
Apps > Battery > Smart Power Saving > ENABLE
Custom > Mobile Data OFF
This leaves all the normal call/receive functions but does not allow mobile data to activate.
Enjoy!
I can't find the custom

When you go into the Battery app select "Smart power saving"
Click to "Enable" so the slider goes blue
Below that is "Custom"
Select "Custom", turn off "Mobile data", turn on "Always on screen" and "Tilt-to-wake"
Sorry, can't seem to take a screenshot of my watch.
Many many thanks
