Connecting to a monitor/changing HDMI output resolution - General Questions and Answers

I would like to attach a Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 to an old Aluminum 20" Apple Cinema Display, but I reckon this question would be applicable to all sorts of devices and monitors. When I connect my Tab S4 with a USB-C to DVI adapter the Display LED blinks 3 quick times, indicating that it does not like the input format/resolution. The monitor's optimal resolution is 1680x1050. Can I get my Tab S4 to output that resolution? I can hook the tablet to an old Samsung monitor with the same adapter and it is clearly not the correct resolution, but at least something comes up on screen.
Can this be done, and if so how?
I have tried SecondScreen and it successfully changes sizing of stuff on screen, but does not seem to affect the actual resolution send out to DVI/HDMI.
Thanks

[Q] Sensation MHL/HDMI Cable Question

Does MHL have an inherent limitation of outputting at [email protected]? I have the cable for my HTC Sensation and that's what I get, just 24hz instead of 60hz that I thought. Also I realized the picture is not truly1080p. Sure the mode is 1080p on the tv but it's actually just the 960x540 native res of the phone's display that's upscaled to 1080. Anybody else have similar results or explanations?
I've had a similar result; all of my videos I play are upscaled to 1080p and to be honest the video doesn't look very good on my tv (you can see the upscaling by the big pixels). I'm using the Tmobile mhl adapter. I've seen youtube videos of the Galaxy S2 outputting 1080p movies through MHL. That looks like it is actually outputting real 1080p and not just being upscaled (but I'm not sure, its hard to tell from a youtube video). Does anyone else have input on this?
i know this is the sensation section however i have an evo 3d and it is pretty much the same internally. i too have this problem and i have a suspicion that it is due to the adapter. does anyone have the oem htc mhl adapter because my tvout is locked at 24fps probably due to my fake ebay mhl adapter. i dont want to spend $50 on a mhl adapter that may or may not be better than my current one.
I don't see how it would be able to not upscale the image?!
If it tried to use the full 1080p image then the resolution would need to change on the phone itself as well as the HDMI output.

i have a hdmi /mhl cable and it has came from mobilefun website and like other have mentioned i have different story because i use the mhl cable with my 24 inch led monitor which has a 1920*1080 res. but the trouble is that in setting it shows that it is outputting at 1280*[email protected] 60hz. i want toknow how can i make it work in 1920*1080 @60 hz.
another thing i want everyone to check is to type *#*#4636#*#* after connecting ur phone with your tv or monitor and check if your phone phone shows charging mode in ac or does it show usb charging
because in my case the problem is that it shows charging in usb mode and after a while of use i lose alot of battery and this is a problem because i have to take my phone and then i have to charge it normally also my phone gets very hot like nearly 50 degres.
please tell me ur experience with mhl cable with ur phone.

[Q] Can HDMI resolution be changed?

My old tv only supports 576p.
I checked several times with Samsung and my retailer before buying my Note 10.1 that it would be compatible via the HDTV adapter and was assured it was.
Its not, nothing appears onscreen on the tv. I have checked with other tv`s that support 1080p and its all fine, so no faulty cable.
Is there a hack or setting I can change to lower the output to 576p?
Thank you in advance.

Connecting Note 10.1 to HDMI to VGA to Monitor is blurry

Hello,
In an effort to get my Note 10.1 to display on a projector/monitor that only has a VGA connection I did the following:
I have connected the Samsung HDTV Adapter to my Note 10.1
I have connected the Samsung HDTV Adapter to Cable Maters HDMI to VGA Active M/F Adapter
I connected the Cable Matters Adapter to a VGA monitor
So doing all I was able to get the tablet screen to show up on the 1080p monitor, but it is very blurry. Is there anything I can do?

You're going to get some signal loss going from hdmi to vga and also from blowing up a 1280x800 screen to 1080p, but not so much it's not usable. My first question is are you using the external power source included with the cable matters adapter? Looking at the device this was the first thing that caught my attention "* The HDMI output of the source device does NOT supply 5V/500mA current"
If you're not that is the first thing I would try.
Thank you for your reply, yes I made sure all the connections were powered, unfortunately the blurriness makes the output unusable. My powerpoint presentations have small text that is blurred beyond recognition, while when I use my laptop connected to the projector, that text is sharp and readable. I have since returned the adapters, I'm not sure if there is another solution for me...
Interesting that a 1080p native monitor has no hdmi inputs.
I think when you connect GNote10.1 from hdmi -> vga monitor, it will simply output at 1280x800. And when LCD/LED monitors are not used at their native resolution, it'll look like crap. CRT (and plasma?) was fine displaying different res.
Solution? Time to upgrade and get a projector/tv that has hdmi inputs for proper presentations. VGA is outdated.

I'm having the same problem with the note 10.1 to vga projector. Do you think this is a hardware issue or software issue? As in, would we be able to find a custom ROM for the Note 10.1 that would allow for connection to projector?
Thanks!

[Q] Nexus 5 Display port resolution supported

I always had a doubt about the display port and the managamente of tv out on android and particularly on nexus 4/nexus 5. I googled a lot about it but i've never found an aswer.
The output resolution is always the same of the source (1080x1920 on nexus 5) or other resolution are supported?
I have a 1360x768 tv/monitor, and before buying a display port adaptor i would like to know if the tv-out signal is scaled to the resolution of the monitor. Few week ago i connected an Archos 80 g9 to this monitor, through the mini hdmi port, but the resolution of the video wasn't the same of the panel, and everything looked blurry.
I don't know if depends on android, or on the monitor too. There is a way to set manually the resolution?
Has anyone connected Nexus 5 to a 1360x768 monitor?

HDMI cabe for TV etc.

Hi guys
I never used my 700T Tab S on the TV. Id like to try it.
My TV is also Samsung.
Are the cables all basically the same, or do some allow the tablet to display better than others on the TV?
What about OEM Samsung HDMI cables?
Thanks!!
I have mine hooked up with a Third party HDMI cable as you can see on the Dell 23" monitor with no issues on my T800 Tab S 10.5....
I am also using the Samsung HDTV smart adapter.
To connect a Galaxy Tab S to an HDMI monitor you'll need an MHL 2.0 adaptor and the original Samsung ET-H10FAUW does the job perfectly.
In my experience I would beware cheap clones or Samsung branded fakes, the Samsung ET-H10 hooks to any monitor instantly up to 1080p 60fps, while others I've tried take up to 1 minute, don't work with an optimal resolution and must be always connected with a power source.
Can the Tab S power higher resolutions on an external display, say it's native resolution or 4k?
