Getting the most from your battery :)

found this vid on youtube. you must be rooted to install set CPU, but its worth it. i'm goign to be testing my gains today since i can see big gains being made while the phone is in standby mode especially.

what other tips do you guys have?

can you do this with the captivate? what are the overclock speeds?

I installed set cpu on my captivate and it has dramatically increased my battery time

i thought set cpu was crashing captivates? how's it been going for you guys?

I've got it on mine and it hasn't crashed. I will note however, that if you go too low for the Max speed, this phone will come to a crawl. I had mine set at 400/200 for battery <20%, and it had trouble coming out of the lock screen. Did some tweaking but my batter is almost dead anyways, so I will have to comment on it tomorrow.
I'm debating if I want to get JuiceDefender or not. It's a good program, but the "turn off data" for 15 mins is what's getting me. I text and Google Talk alot, so I may just download the program and use it while I'm at work, then disable it when I get home.

i thought this was a waste since the phone will go down to 100mhz on its own to conserve power?

it will but when you are using it, it can climb up to 1000 wasting power. Nothing on the android should really require that much horsepower atm

a simple approach i started using on an earlier smartphone, was a wallpaper that was predominantly black - considering the display is the predominant battery drain
i've been using this one, just enough going on to be visually intriguing but not take a lot of juice - whenever i look around for wallpapers, i keep coming back to this one - once i've seen a new wallpaper for a day or so, i've bored of it. Plus my flip clock widget, i set it with transparent background and transparent digit plates, to minimize the white display
i've posted the full size image in case anyone wants to copy
the other nice part, for me, the widgets are easy to discern

Very good approach to conserving power, since, according to the phone itself, the display usually takes up a high percentage of its battery life. This wallpaper is also really good, because not only is it predominantly black, but the main color is red, which drains the least amount of life of all colors.
Think I might try that once I get my brick working or trade it in for a new one...

So when i try and use SetCPU (which is supposedly the most effective power saver) I get around 500 mhz... That being said, I wasn't using the new 2.0.1 version. Is there support for Captivates in newer versions? I need help with this >.< My battery isn't lasting nearly long enough for me, and I really want to get close to 25 hours with heavy usage on my captivate (or close to) as Carlos suggested in his video.

Battery with System Panel

I went to sleep around 11:30 last night. Before I went to bed I turned off mobile completely and had 94%. When I woke up at 7:45 I had 64%. Take a look at these screenshots and tell me how I can improve my battery. As you can see in the second screenshot I didn't use my phone at all but look at the drastic decrease.

That's odd for sure. Did you check the system's battery stats? Just seems like the app you're using isn't telling the whole story.

First thing I'd target is system panel itself...an app that polls your phone for system statistics...yeah...

Was this a one time thing, or does it happen every night? Did you check the system's battery info, as suggested above? Are you running a custom kernel/ROM? Did you see CPU spikes in System Panel during that period? Was wifi on?
I frankly have no idea what your problem could be, but a little more info might help.

system panel is superb, it uses barely any cpu at all.
anyway to the OP, i do the same test every night, i leave my phone idle, then check system panel in the morning. i drop 6% in 7 hours, but yours definitely dropped a lot. obviously no app or process is showing up, so i would just reboot and try another test tonight. perhaps some glitch happened, radio was wacky, i dont know. but that's not normal.
however we do know that the stock ROM has a high current draw at idle, around 34mA, when other phones get 4mA during idle. so who knows maybe it's normal.
i wish i had some screen shots of my system panel figures to show you.

I've noticed abnormal battery usage with low phone signal as well. Think the phones (Inc and Thunderbolt) ramp up voltage trying to amplify a low signal.
But i notice that you have a graph for 8 hours but the usage report is showing you only 2 mins. Dont think it's giving you an accurate usage report while charging. Depending on what you having it charging on it's possible to drain more charge than your receiving. Especially with USB computer charging.

Linux is actually keeping the statistics, the app just scans /proc and other directories at intervals to log it over time. Intervals are 15 minutes-ish on battery, our target spec is <1 min of CPU consumption per day to perform this service. (Am the author)
Unfortunately SystemPanel also isn't finding the specific culprit in this case, i.e., it's only showing that app CPU usage isn't the problem. Best guess in such scenarios is either some app that is running in the background preventing the phone from going into its best low power state or is using a bunch of power running one of the radios. I'd next try doing the same thing in airplane mode.
Will be adding more data logging for additional such as network bandwidth in future versions.

What the usage report is saying is that in those 8 hours his System Processes only used the CPU for about 2 minutes. That would lead me to believe that there is something running in the back ground that System Monitor is not picking up. I would suggest doing what the Dev above me said and see if that might help figure out what process that is.

i believe system panel uses linux commands such as "top" which picks up everything that hits the CPU. so the offending battery drainer is something else, such as the radio for example going wacky, etc. i admit the OP's usage seems strange as i do the same test every night with system panel, but when something weird does happen, the ofending app clearly shows up in system panel.
the next step is taking logs with the current widget and seeing how high idle current draw is. i get around 5mA to 10mA idle current draw.

Horrible Battery Life 2h SOT - Need Kernel or other tweaks advice

Okay, so to make a long story short I have terrible battery life. (See image below)
I don't even game, all this time the only thing I did was listening to music trough my headphones whatsapp, and some low usage of Facebook (Messenger). Nothing special in my eyes.
2h55 min SOT. This is really the worst battery life I ever had on every phone, I have this for a couple of months now already. And I am so done with it.
I am looking for options:
Will a new kernel help me out? If so, which one? I don't like fine tweaking. Just a new kernel that works, no tweaking and that works for battery life. I heard FrancoKernel, or ElementalX is good. But keep in mind I just need a kernel for battery/performance. Not for fine tuning.
I will also install xXx No limits. Is this recommended for my case?
I want to know all of your opinions on this, and with my batttery life in mind. Because I really want to get this fixed, I am getting annoyed so much.. Thanks!

It must be the apps installed on ur phone, mostly its the rom not the kernel.

There are really no specials apps installed. Also Battery usage (detailed) doesn't give a lot special.

You have root? download matlog and see whats spamming ur devices with errors perhaps

Nope I am not rooted. I am looking for options what can cause this and preferable without root. I am afraid that root will only will make things worse, while this already really worse.

Do you use Chromecast? its so poorly optimized its insane.

Yes, its a while ago now. I think it has been 1-2 months ago. But I can remember it didn't make a huge difference. The thing is, I can't reset it because of banking applications and working abroad. (I wont be able to install them again). And I am pretty sure it wont help.

There's no miracle, a kernel won't help significantly. You just need to track what's draining your battery. Delete ad many apps as possible, deactivate system apps you don't need.

You can try deep clear in the recent apps management and turn off smart boost in the laboratory.

You might have to replace the battery if the other suggestions don't help

Download Accubattery from play store and charge your phone above 80% then check battery heath, i have 86% health and it's pretty good.

Also if you oem unlock bootloader it will wipe everything.

Your doing something wrong.

I'm experiencing exactly the same. Idle battery drain is about 1,5% per hour, I hardly get more than 3 hrs of screen on time. I do think it has something to do with the OS, but can't figure out what...

Go in Google settings, location, scan, and check in wifi and Bluetooth are enabled. This combo drains a lot

Airplane mode + Wifi enable.

Huge battery drain problem on stock device

Hello there!
I'm having problems with this device, the Mi 10 Lite 5G (Monet) in particular.
Out of nowhere it started having an insane battery drain. To the point that if i unplug it from the charger before i go to sleep so the phone starts at 100% battery, when I wake up between 6 and 8 hours later, I find it at 30 to 50%, at an average of 7-8%/h.
I'm on all stock: latest MIUI, no bootlocker unlocked, no root, ironically I chose this device 'cause i didn't want any headaches.
Remembering my olden modding days, I remembered about the wakelock hunts, so that's the first thing i thought about. I tried multiple apps to do so and even the Battery Historian tool via a bugreport. Everything points to some kernel wakelocks that pretty consistently activate, not letting my CPU sleep at all, which makes sense as to why It would drain battery like that. The problem is I can't figure out what causes it. There's no app that does it, it seems to be all kernel stuff, I even factory reset and tested without installing anything. Either it's something with the system itself, that I can't quite pinpoint, or i'm starting to think it might be hardware. I don't wanna sway anyone, but my best bet is it could be a faulty usb-c charging port. Although I don't know how it could make it this bad, and I'm obviously not sure it even is it. Would suck to change it, spend money on it, and still have the problem.
Aside from the wakelocks, there's also another bit of info that makes me think that: when off, if i plug the usb cable in to charge it, the phone doesn't get to the battery charging animation, but it keeps showing me the Xiaomi logo screen, over and over. I haven't tested if it actually charges in the background or not, for fear of making things worse.
I even checked if there was something weird in the hidden battery stats by dialing the code *#*#6485#*#*, but aside from the phone going into "sink attached" mode at random intervals, which apparently means it's trying to provide charge to something else through the port or wireless charge (that this phone doesn't even have)...? I can't tell if there's anything weird with it or not.
I know my way around android a little bit, but I'm a little bit lacking when it comes to intricate information like this, and I couldn't find any information about this (these) particular wakelock(s) and everything else around 'em.
I'd really appreciate it if someone who knows this kind of stuff better than me could help me out with it. Even just to know what the problem is and there's no real solution.
I'll attach a couple screenshots from Battery Historian (my phone's been factory reset, so I have no apps on it, and don't plan on putting any on aside from the ones I absolutely need, in case I have to send in in for repairs, or root/mod it to try and mitigate or solve this) and alsothe bugreport itself, in case someone needs to look at it in detail to try and sniff out the problem.
Also, if this wan't the right place to post this, let me know. I went for the device, but maybe there's a better section to more in general help with these types of issues, but if there is i couldn't find it.

EDIT: For anyone reading this, the problem was indeed a broken usb-c port/module. I bought a replacement and swapped it out myself and my battery is back to being perfect. Well, almost perfect... This quickly discharging business has lowered its health obviously.
I suspect some sort of short would make my phone believe something was continously being inserted and removed into the usb port, so the CPU would keep being woken up, and kept consuming extra power to try and read something off of it.
I hope this helps someone!

From what I can tell there is no problem. The battery is being consumed at a normal rate by the cpu, wifi and Bluetooth. If you're not using them just deactivate them.
Check the USB port for fluff etc stuffed deep down by repetitive compacting. Use something pin like but not metallic to scrape any foreign objects out.

While it does appear that it is being used normally, that graph stays the same if i turn everything off, either through airplane mode or by manually disabling wi-fi, bluetooth, GPS, or anything else. I can't turn off the CPU, so there must be something that keeps it up and running for no reason while it should instead be sleeping, and I can't for the life of me figure out what it is. Which is why i think it might be hardware.
I will do the deeper cleaning operation as soon as I can get my hands on a pin-like object small enough that's not metal. Everything i have is either slightly too big to reach more than just the surface of the port, or thin enough but metallic.

Question Can u share ur battery with one ui 5.0 please?

How man i cant get past 4hsot in my best days

It will vary with everyone. We use our devices different. Connectivity comes into play..what apps you have..what's running in background. I average 8hrs screen time but me posting what I have done is not going to get the same results as the next person. Screen on times are great but are people actually using the device or just watching a few movies that are 1hr30min. Are they just watching YouTube videos over and over, or do they have so many things disabled what was the point to getting a flagship device. So for me I use adb app control to disable At&t bloat, use a darker wallpaper, have some apps set to not run in the background. But I do not disable a ton of stuff. But again how I use my device is not the same as the next. But a week ago I did use the crap out of the device just to see what it would do, and I did get a 9hr screen time. But again I watched a lot of YouTube

None of this means anything unless people post their settings, specifically refresh rate, resolution, brightness level (auto or other), etc.
I'm getting about the same on 5.0 as I did on 4.1. I can get 6 hours of screen on time, 1440p, 120hz, auto brightness, although I am using the extra dim feature, but auto is still checked.
If I didn't have the Facebook app I think it would be a lot better honestly but I am using it. Oh well.

That was my point everyone uses device different. I turn off 5G and use Lte because where I live it's very spotty. Brightness at about 40%

I Cant agree with anyone here bcz i swear even if i light use this phone i can get max 5hsot with 1080 and power saving mode enabled i literally did everything with this phone to get more but nothing. With my s21 ultra i was using 1440p 120hz and i played little games and used it alot minimum i can get is 5hsot one day i got 9h by light use but nothing helps with the s22u .. my next phone is not a Samsung for sure

Honestly little debloating. The biggest thing on mine is I keep high refresh off and have apps that would constantly sync in the background put in deep sleep. Depending on where I'm at I'll turn off 5G. The main thing is I made sure all the T-Mobile garbage is turned off and that the actual Facebook app isn't installed. I tend to keep my brightness around ~30% as I spend the day either in my place for work, or at the gym where it isn't overly bright.

I forgot to mention I'm on an unlocked version of the phone, not a carrier variant. And every time i update my phone to a newer firmware I clear the cache. Honestly makes a huge difference.

*Most apps which don't trigger notifications are in deep sleep as well as location turned off for them or while on only;
*Usage mostly WhatsApp, Youtube, Instagram, Browser.
