Does any body think that if Samsung had been on time with updates such as 2.2 and gotten us up to speed at a decent time that we would still be considered an elite phone instead of one just lagging behind?
IMO, the captivate is still elite I love my captivate, even running 100% stock. My friends with iPhone4's even love my captivate.

How about in 2 months with the nexus s and galaxy s 2 coming out we will probably be stuck at 2.1 forever?

If the Nexus S turns out to be a Captivate++ with Stock Gingerbread, I am so buying that phone.
Otherwise, with custom ROMs and such we're doing okay.

It's called technology. It will happen to the newly released phones as well. If the phone you have still serves its purpose, then why worry about the next generation? Having something simply because it has higher numbers and is "new" or "revolutionary" is just being foolish and listening to a marketing department. Buy something new because what you have is not allowing you to do something.
I am talking about 2.3 and eventually 3.0 not the phones in general, just us never getting up graded to the next OS.
All things aside I do think its bull**** that they can't roll out 2.2. I mean look at the complexities and flexibilities of the android os, I'm pretty sure if they really wanted to they could roll it out to us. But no they're just a bunch of assholes and....nvm /rage

I don't understand why our phones need to be updated through the CARRIER? Makes absolutely zero sense. Here we are updating our phones ourselves using other methods, why not roll it out in a way that DOESNT use att? makes no sense.

It makes sense because the Captivate was built for AT&T and Samsung and AT&T have a contract that stipulates that the carrier approves the updates and tests them prior to deployment.
If you don't want that situation, then you need to buy a carrier free phone - like the i9000 that was sold unlocked from Expansys and other sites.
If you buy an AT&T (or any other carrier branded phone) then you are stuck waiting for carrier approval. This is true with any brand of phone - Moto, HTC, etc. don't release updates until approved by the carrier.

You're probably right, but I don't think so.
For all we know, the devs of these 2.2 roms work for Google and its just an under the table way of delivering what they know is lacking. Oh what now son oh!

With the only exception maybe being the iPhone. Which I find that I miss more than the abundance of apps, is the timely updates from Apple.

Wow, what a bunch of whining. If you arent savvy enough to install any one of the MANY 2.2 roms out there, why are you complaining that newer, more complicated phones will leave this one in the dust?
Anyways, I think official 2.2 rolls out soon, just got a text from ATT saying an update will be pushed to my phone. Also, this phone has the minimum specs for android 3.0, from what Ive read, so I dont see why you think we wont be seeing android 3.0. With the way we are modifying roms and kernels right now, even if we didnt get an official 3.0 update, Im sure we would be able to at least port it. These phones are monsters, this thing has better specs than my laptop I got 5 years ago that was about 8X the price.

What did the text say? Sounds like you got a JI7 update message, especially if you are already running a 2.2 variant.
All the other 2.2 updates from samsung have been done via Kies, so i doubt that will be pushed 2.2. As for current Roms, most are based on beta 2.2 builds, none are 100% perfect - not that Samsung will do much better

You can have it now, if you really want it. I recommended taking some time to learn about your phone and see if flashing a custom version of a Froyo based ROM is right for you. Hell, there are some great Eclair ROMs here too.
I've never modded a cell phone in my life until I got my Captivate. If not for that one major feature (thanks goes to XDA and the awesome devs here) I'd be raging mad at Samsung as I bought my phone thinking official Froyo would be out any minute- that was the end of august, mind you.
You're going to soon learn that Samsung doesn't give a damn about you.

So, basically... after the Canadian debacle, they'll be testing this until who knows when. Personally, Samsung/ATT should just pay to license one of the ROMs here on XDA and be done with it. I'm guessing every ROM on this board has had more live testing then anything ATT or Samsung will come out with.
The community certainly has an advantage in that area. Having worked at a few software companies, there's generally a healthy emphasis on testing / limiting functionality for consumer products so you don't get a ton of expensive support calls or returns. I've seen beta programs run all sorts of interesting ways (and some successfully, but I think I've seen an equal number of terrible attempts).
I wouldn't hold my breath for a company like Samsung to approach an enthusiast community such as this one, even if it could help them basically for free. Reaching out like that can sometimes backfire as well since you're relinquishing a certain amount of control to your audience.

Fact of the matter is there have been alot of samsung phones come out after captivate and in very little time have gotten froyo or coming out with 2.3. Truth is they got your money and my money, they dont give a rats a** about the captivate and upgrades. At this point they look at it as a done deal they are in no hurry and will not dedicate any man hours to it, what might usually have a team to do is prob being done by one person. They figure if u want it buy another phone, prob is everyone locked in to 2 year contracts with this piece of sh**.
From what I read, Samsung will release info on CES about Galaxy S2 phones. They will probably come with Froyo 2.2. Until those phones show up in stores, we Galaxy S owners/suckers have to wait for our turn of updating while S2 owners patiently waiting for Gingerbread 2.3 update. And the cycle continues.

How do you really feel?
att reps dont know anything, some say things to get you to leave but have no official information or try to fill in the blanks to make you happy. the froyo release is a mystery entirely. it was supposedly scheduled for december according to a samsung tweet but according to an email in another thread is pending approval by att. there is probably a few more features they want removed!
the canadians got froyo on 2 of there galaxy s phones i don't think we can be too far behind but without official information "not too far" might be 3 months.
now i wouldn't complian till after t-mobile gets froyo (or did they get it already) after all the t-mobile rom doesn't have unique features like tethering that was either removed or if the jj4 leak is an indicator has a check for a tethering plan, or a lack of side loading, or a lack of hsupa and incompatability with modems for other phones that have hsupa. but really the vibrant has more in common with other galaxy s phones that already have froyo so those guys should expect the update first.
now granted the people that make decisions at att are retards i dont think you should give up on froyo. i dont know where the idea that att is thinking about dropping froyo all together came from but there is no way that froyo is giving more problems than the stock firmware or the update. maybe they are building bad press for samsung by delaying the update and blaming samsung to boost iphone sales? or is it windows phone 7 now?
but anyway i'd run a ported rom for a bell vibrant or telus fascinate, or tmobile vibrant with i9000 kernel and bell or telus modem. that way you dont get att restrictions.
Second day I bought my captivate I put a ROM on it. You can ask your local representative or listen to twitter posts and continue to complain about everyone knowing nothing. Or be proactive and do something, after a few hours of reading I was confident with flashing and knew a good deal.
The open source community has always been good to those who go out and do more than ask the AT&T guys, leave that stuff up to the soccer moms and the iPhone users.
I don't necessarily believe the AT&T rep either. I don't think the store reps get that kind of information so he probably just threw a date out there. That said, I've decided I'm not going to wait any longer since I realized it's actually a win/win situation to flash a custom ROM from the devs here. I'll have 2.2 without the AT&T bloatware.
Now I just have to decide which ROM to flash.

Guess you never owned a new RAZR. ICS took forever and JB is a pipe dream. The new RAZR M just got JB so this is nothing new. Their focus is on selling new to market units, not throwing money at upgrading the OS on already sold units.

Funny thing is the S3 is still Verizon's best phone and well continue to be for now. Putting JB on it will just help sell more units as well as keep current customers happy.
Unfortunately Verizon does not care about keeping customers happy as long as they continue to hit their numbers every quarter.

Thats because Verizon prefers to push their "Droid" branded phones IMO.
They will eventually have to release a JB update. I'm just hoping source doesn't take too long to drop after it.
Samsung Galaxy S3
I'm really really really hoping I'm wrong but based on Verizon's history, I'm not holding out hope that we will see JellyBean on our GS3s anytime soon.
Take for example the Galaxy Nexus, by all logic the Verizon version should have gotten JB update at the same time as the GSM version.
However from what I understand(I don't own one) the GSM Nexus got the JB update the last week of June (~27th), while Verizon Nexus owners didn't receive it till Sept 27th, almost 2 months later.
Even if you argue that it takes a little longer to create CDMA/LTE-JB compared to a GSM/LTE-JB that doesn't account for the 2 month time lag. Not when you have access to all of the source code and hardware roadmaps the Samsung does.
In fact, I don't think it has anything to do with Samsung at all. According to what I've recently read, Sprint GS3's are getting JB starting tomorrow.
That means Samsung has already created an acceptable Official CDMA/LTE-JB update that has already been vetted by Sprint that is set to start being pushed out tomorrow with absolutely no evidence of one even existing for Verizon(not even a whiff of a leak or anything)
I don't know why it takes so long, but I do know that it seems like Verizon never gets anything first, in fact they usually get everything last(not counting T-mobile)
At this point I've stopped checking the forum. I'm just hopping that I'll wake up one morning and see an update notification on my phone.
Rumor has it Sprint might be getting OTA JB update starting tomorrow. If that is true, way to go Sprint. That is how updates should roll out.
Guess we will see tomorrow.

Putting JB on it won't sell more units. Most people don't know the difference and couldn't tell you the difference if they did a side by side comparison.
Google created this monster when it decided to make it open source with little control over how it's utilized. Apple devices cost more to the carrier and the carrier has little to no input on how the phone functions.
Apple made face time open for use over data where before it was wifi only. What did the carriers do, cry and get over it. Apple introduces imessage which circumvents regular texting lowering revenue from text messaging. What do the carriers do? Nada. Had it been android it wouldn't make it to our devices because they have no control over it. They release the OS, manufacturer builds it to the phones specs and then it's sent off to the carrier for bloating and restricting. Verizon is a service provider they have no business diddling around in an operating system.
Verizon as a customer centric business does have a great customer service. They're more responsive than most other carriers. However, they are in the business to make money and they want to maintain control of the very devices that could either make or break them. We phone enthusiasts are just a drop in the bucket to the millions of other customers that don't care what version OS their phone is on.

This is what draws people to Apple though. They should take a lesson if they want to compete on the long-term.
I'll never, ever, buy another Motorola phone again. They come out with a new phone every other month, and drop support entirely for their existing phones.

Sprint is pretty good about updates but sometimes they are to quick on the draw. The S2 had some serious issues with one of the updates that would cause it to hard brick.

Dude you are wrong.
Most people don't know about & don't care about JB. Only the fanatics(ie people on XDA, me included) care one way or the other what version of Android is running on their phone.
This is even more true for IOS users. If OEMs didn't push updates to phones OTA most phones would never get updated. There are plenty of people who have there phones set up pretty much exactly the way it was coming out of the box.
I'd argue that your average Android user is a little bit more savvy about customizing his experience but mostly because there are more options, not necessarily because they are more tech savvy. Overall that average user isn't significantly more advanced than an average IOS user.
You would be surprised how many people purchase phones based on either the salesman's advice or the advice of a friend.
All of the talk of specs, fragmentation, OS updates is purely for the phone geek crowd.
Probably 1% of people are going to make their decision based on update version.

I would much rather be on Verizons network running ICS as opposed to Sprints with JellyBean...I need service more than timely updates. We will get a update, until then im perfectly content with what development is currently active on this device. we dont need jellybean source to get the ril perfected anyway. all we need is a dev like jt1134 that wrote the mtd filesystem for the fascinate and hacked the ril to near perfection...he also was the main reason cm7 ever made it to the fascinate. That device barely got a gingerbread ota and that didnt happen till way after cm7 was released. point is, support your devs folks! they are the ones that will keep this device up to date after the carriers drop it. I never log on to xda for news on ota updates...things are so much different now than it use to be here and there is alot less dense information in these forums. Now 1 in 3 threads is about ota or root...lol

I never said I would rather be on Sprint. I left Sprint about 8 months ago after being with them for 15 years. I am just saying I am pretty surprised to see this update come out so quick for them. Would have guessed we would have seen it on AT&T or T-Mobile first. Whether you like Sprint or not is irrelevant, I do think it is kind of cool to see JB released already for them though. It shows that there head is in the right place.
To be honest, if Verizon's network was not leaps and bounds better then others I do not even think the company would exist right now. Choosing to lock bootloaders, blocking apps like Google Wallet, worst data plans, the slowest updates ever and basically not caring about what the customer wants does not sound to enticing. Once the other providers catch up they better start to change their tude or they will begin to see a huge decline in numbers.
I do think Sprint really f'd up and now they are trying to be the good guy. While their network was going to the ****ter instead of giving their customers reasons to stay they continued to remove features at a rapid pace. They removed the Premier program, removed discounts from any line but the first, raised their ETF fee, raised their insurance prices and I am sure I am missing a few other things. Maybe now they are realizing with a network as ****ty as theirs they need reasons to actually keep customers and not scare them away.
This S4 boot loader debacle has turned me against U.S. carrier based phones. I can't giving $600+ for something as they please without our permission. I'll have to investigate/research which International version I want to buy.
I was aware of it. The seller I bought it from does care about these matters. I bought as it as a learning experience. I sure aren't trying to start any arguments or fights. I was just hoping it could be discussed normally.

Actually this is the kind of thread people start that are only looking for arguments. It adds nothing to the community. However, I understand your frustration with Samsung and I am sure others feel the same way. But don't think it's OK to post your opinion about a subject and it isn't OK for others to do the same. wait for the lg optimus g2 or the moto x. those phones look amazing. they might come with an unlocked bootloader. i was just pondering this the other day. ive only purchased two new phones that were not samsung in my smartphone history. that was the iphone 4s (which i traded for a skyrocket) and the htc surround (wanted to give wp7 a shot). ive had other htcs and one sony. but they were craigslist deals. my next phone is most likely going to be the g2 or moto x. i think its about time for me to give someone else a fair shot.

I think that the S4 has made me a heretic in XDA's eyes. The stock experience, especially after this update, has been marvelous. I've had a bunch of Android devices since 2010 and this is the first time that I think futzing around with custom ROMs is mostly useless. Sure, it's locked down, but it works great. I just shake my head seeing bug reports on the dev threads and wonder why an end user would want to cripple functionality on one of the best phones yet.
Anyway, maybe I got most of the flashing out of my system with my Nexus One and then later with the hooptie Viewsonic gTab 10.1. I think now that the platform is maturing and devices become even more complex, flashing homebrew ROMs will start to fall out of style.
Just my BTC .02, though. I'd like to see amateur/recreactional custom Android development to continue to thrive, though--perhaps on the next to wave of wearable computing and the like. I just want my bling phone to work as advertised.

You know to be honest I hope your right. Custom roms and XDA were never really ment for the normal person. Only for those that wished to learn to do development and programing. With Android flashing a device became the cool thing to do. Now we see less real development then ever. So I really hope your right.

I couldn't have said it any better. It won't be long til we see roms named "swag" or "#yolo" or even named "freelilwayne". Everyone just expects everything to work 100% with no development. All I see are now spammers for apps and themes or someone asking why something doesn't work even though there are 48 other threads about it. I miss the old XDA.

The Q & A section in this forum is nearly unusable. There are a few legitimate threads, but almost exclusively it is filled with the same (sometimes noob) crap over and over again all because they are too lazy to do a little searching and reading. And like you said, several of the same questions (that have already been answered) all on the first page or two. Sometimes it's not even the noobs doing it. And that's not taking into consideration the multitudes of the same types of posts (needless questions) being posted in the General section. So I agree, there should be some type of test(s) that people need to pass before they can even enter XDA at this point.

I mean don't buy anything branded from AT&T or Verizon or any carrier whose device is locked. If you went with the T-Mobile model you wouldn't have been locked down.
Honestly I felt the same way initially. Then I asked myself what Android company am I going to buy then?
HTC - they typically have locked boot loaders (though the One does not)
Moto - Nope always locked and they don't make any cool phones right now.
LG - locked typically
Sony - wouldn't know since they have like No US phones.
So would I rather pay $600 for a phone with boot loader unlocked or $200 for a locked one, I pick the $200. I am assuming must people would also.

My take; I have had AT&T locked phones in the past and usually someone finds a way to either hack the bootloader or make a bypass, it just takes a lot more time. Still fun to have the phone and customize. Then I've also paid the big dollars and bought the international version unlocked phone. It was great because of lots of customizing, and support however if you run into a warranty issue you are screwed. Unless you know someone in the country your phone came from. I have an international SGS3 but a couple small glitches in the graphics and the worry of the bad system board that causes the instant black screen of death (or whatever it was) I started looking at the S4. I was ready to buy another international phone but it came down to features and actual function. I wanted 4G LTE. Well back when I bought the S3 there were 2 international SGS3 phones. I bought the one with LTE first (9305) turns out the frequencies the phone runs for 3G+ did not work with AT&T in the US. I had to sell it on eBay, forget having LTE, lose a gig of Ram and get the 9300. Then I decided about going back to AT&T and get S4 because I would be covered under warranty and I get all the features that are going to work where I live. Cool thing is its the same hardware as the 9505 so there's still quite a bit of customizing with the SGH-I337. For me it will come down to the features and what works for me in my area. I learned the hard way with the SGS3. Frequencies and no warranty.

just buy a canadian version, they have identical hardware and you will know will have full compatibility with american wireless networks
I feel cheated. I paid $650 out of contract to AT&T for this phone coming from a iPhone, a locked platform I was getting tired of, especially with Jailbreaking becoming harder on it, for the reason to "play" with my phone. With a locked bootloader, and a carrier locked, I cannot do that.
In the world of DRM losing ground you would think they would learn? Moto dropping their locked boot loaders... DRM being removed from Google Play Music and iTunes... people are sick of it adding complication to their lives. I had a P3113 Galaxy Tab 2 7" WiFi only and loved it because of how open it was. Currently running CM10.1.2 on it. Yet their phones are so locked down.

True enough. Had I known about the Google Edition I would have waited a bit. If I really wanted I could buy it and sell my current SGH-I337 for a little less than I bought it for. However I kinda wanted to retain the ability to run full Touchwiz / Stock based roms easily.
I'm still happy as I am now running CM10.1 on my phone, and running Goldeneye ROM if I want a stock full Touchwiz ROM. Flash AMF3 model.. and keeping my AMDL Odin package safe. Just had I bought the phone with AMF3 on it I would be totally turned off and be unusable for me because of patched Loki.
personally, i mod or mess with everything. camera rigs i do myself, computers i build myself. cars i mod (and have rebuilt one with help) myself. my house i work on or change.
it is a fundamental hallmark of humanity that we change our environment and create or modify tools around us to suit our needs. so flashing ROMs or trying to customize or even just tinker with these devices is, in my opinion, simply an extension of what it means to be human, to create, express, and change. anything that limits that creativity is a bad thing IMO.
this is where locked bootloaders, fragmentation, and endless carrier variants become bad things, and where i do like apples' approach; one nearly universal product (hardware wise other than LTE/GSM/CDMA or storage size). However, apple is horrible for locked down software.
i will always root/unlock my phones as long as that is possible, because i can. i will always build my own computers, because i can. and i will always drive stick and for sure it wont be stock either; because i can.

I wonder if things will stay the same on near new models like the Note 3.
...I've tried to find out how to update this bloody thing to Nougat, but to no avail whatsoever. Google has turned up nothing up to date, the folks at Samsung don't seem to know jack (but I bet they can write BOOKS about flagships & recent former flagships like the S8 line & S7 line), and the folks at Boost are even MORE clueless. (And please believe me...I am trying to be as polite as possible - an insanely difficult task given just how violently furious I am!!)
Making matters worse is that I just learned earlier that the Sprint version J3 Emerge - EXACT SAME MODEL, SM-J327P - has already gotten the Nougat update...and even THEY have no idea what Boost is doing or when they'll get the update out. (And it doesn't help that Boost doesn't have a clue, swearing that it's up to the manufacturer, while Samsung also has no clue, swearing that it's up to the carrier. LIES. Somebody has to know SOMETHING!!) For that matter, even the AT&T version (SM-J327A, renamed something stupid like Galaxy Express Prime 2 or something equally Verizon-level dumb) has Nougat STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOX.
So what gives!? Is there any way to upgrade this thing, or is there some sort of port of the Sprint Nougat firmware - which has to be beyond the QF4 baseband - with a Boost fix (akin to how the AT&T and T-Mobile Galaxy S7s can have the SM-G930U firmware flashed to them)? Tried that last night when I called Boost AND Samsung. Unfortunately, the managers I spoke with were just as braindead as the representatives. Honestly, I find it impossible that entire staffing teams could be that incompetent. I mean, how do they even get these jobs when they know nothing about their products!?

LG has a bunch of imbeciles. Been that way with them since the LG Optimus S/V. As for SamMobile... either that site's outdated or the Sprint rep I spoke to last night had no clue what she was talking about - I asked her specifically about this phone (SM-J327P), seeing as they have the exact same model, and she said that they got the Nougat update...

I could check again next week, if they uploaded it but chances are it's not sammobile depending on when they sent the update out, that's where I get the majority of my firmware for my devices.

The AT&T version. Exactly my point. The European release also comes with Nougat out the box. And Sprint just got the Nougat update (unless that chick ain't know what she was talking about). So HOW is it even remotely possible that NOBODY knows anything about the Boost variant when it's the same bloody model as the Sprint one (SM-J327P)!? Like I said, LIES. There's absolutely zero chance whatsoever that absolutely NOBODY would have ZERO knowledge of when the update would drop for it. And also like I said, I bet that if it were a flagship or a recent former flagship, these clowns would know enough to write a book or ten about it.

What would I expect...hmm...perhaps that all variants of the same device are treated equally? It makes zero sense that every variant of this thing EXCEPT the Boost Mobile one either already comes with Nougat (AT&T, Metro PCS, T-Mobile) or just recently got it (Sprint, the closest thing to Boost). And that nobody between the folks at Boost and the folks at Samsung seems to know anything is beyond impossible.
The latest person I spoke with over the phone basically said I should go to a Samsung Experience shop at Best Buy and see if they can help. Now...if the clueless peeps over the phone couldn't do anything...what made her think that some random folks at a display area within a store (that probably know even LESS) could do anything!?

There is a VERY important difference between the models that you are overlooking...
All the devices that currently have Nougat on it... Are all GSM based... Which is what most of the world uses...
Boost, sprint, Verizon, and us Cellular... Are all CDMA carriers... Which, afaik, are only available in the US... CDMA is an old outdated method of wireless transfer... And if Verizon wasn't so big... Probably wouldn't exist anymore...
So yeah... Fair treatment and all that... But for 20% of the people who might use the phone... You have to see how it isn't cost effective to develop... Especially since you are in the minority as most would just use whatever is on the device...

(It does get a little different when you get into full model numbers - SM-J327PZSASPR for Sprint but SM-J327PZSABST for Boost) So if the Sprint one really has received the update, then perhaps there's some interior carrier workings that I'm unaware of (from a consumer standpoint) that would possibly prevent Nougat from even being possible at all on the Boost version. Like I said... Understanding tech more than just using it... Is not normal... Most people don't mess with devices like you see people here on XDA...
Think about it from an end user perspective... What big change happened between marshmallow and nougat that would warrant the cost of bringing up a low end device?

I would assume that the "big change" between Marshmallow & Nougat would be the same that would warrant the cost of updating mid-level and especially flagship level devices. But, that's probably an irrelevant point, and I don't want to come across as trying to make an argument of it. Odds are, more end users are on mid-levels & flagships and some of them expect to have the latest & greatest software on it...at least until the next big thing comes along. In that regard, any costs of updates for higher level devices are indeed logical. My thing is that for one variant of a low-level device to be left in the cold while other variants of the exact same device either get updated or have an update immediately out of the packaging doesn't seem logical. Unless, of course, it was the proverbial "beta test" before a wider release.
I did a little more researching...the Verizon variant (SM-J327V, called the Samsung Galaxy J3 Eclipse...probably because Verizon LOVES to rename things) also has Nougat now...which makes two CDMA variants. I guess at this point, it doesn't matter; if the folks at Boost Mobile (and Samsung, with their outdated website info) have no knowledge despite any and all facts presented to them, then odds are probably high that this version of the device simply won't get updated at all.
Funny how supposedly the CDMA carriers don't get the newer updates, yet Verizon's variant came with Nougat out of the box and Sprints was updated and US Cellular's J3 (2017)[which by a simple googling...is what the Emerge is commonly refered to as with it's variants across all the carriers] has Nougat out of the box.
Now, I don't know about you...but the MVNOs of one of the carriers that supposedly doesn't have Nougat based on the bollocks that it's "CDMA" is the only one out of ALL the carriers that have this phone or its variants is ludicrous. The ODIN package for my phone is for Sprint and both of its MVNOs, which makes me wonder what the hell Boost and Virgin Mobile are doing when they should honestly get the same updates that Sprint gets.

All the devices that currently have Nougat on it... Are all GSM based... Which is what most of the world uses...
Boost, sprint, Verizon, and us Cellular... Are all CDMA carriers... Which, afaik, are only available in the US... CDMA is an old outdated method of wireless transfer... And if Verizon wasn't so big... Probably wouldn't exist anymore...
So yeah... Fair treatment and all that... But for 20% of the people who might use the phone... You have to see how it isn't cost effective to develop... Especially since you are in the minority as most would just use whatever is on the device...

I has one thing to say...
I have been doing A LOT of research about Boost's variant of the J327P the last week or so because my boyfriend softbricked his and I had to fix it, and have only seem to come up with one conclusion about Boost Mobile itself. Boost Mobile really just sucks donkey **** when it comes to support for devices. I can't think of any other way to put it. I say this because even when Sprint's variant was still running Marshmallow, Sprint released SOOO many more updates on firmware than Boost has. It's actually to the point where my brain literally hurts and I legitimately contemplated whether or not getting stung by 5 billion wasps would be a better solution than trying to figure out what the **** Boost Mobile is doing when it comes to releasing software updates for ALL of their phones. Not just this one. In fact, my head hurts so badly from trying to come up with a viable reason as to why Boost doesn't release updates as often as other phone carriers do, that I would almost rather stab myself in the eye with a corkscrew and remove it wine cork style than try to think about this any longer.
*sigh* If you manage to figure out anything new on the subject, please pm me. It'd be nice to be in touch with someone who actually understands things about this particular phone since my boyfriend seems to like it so much and makes me fix it every time it gets stuck booting. I am currently fixing it because it randomly factory reset itself and enabled the FRP lock. No joke, he unlocked the screen on his phone to google something, it said, "**** your google question," and reset itself. :crying: My only advice on this phone is to immediately find the nearest boulder and SMASH it to bits.

It was already rooted using SuperSu. It's back to stock now, but I'd have to ask my boyfriend if he wants it rooted again cause it's his phone. If it was mine, I'd say hell yeah. Unfortunately, I have a ZTE Warp 7 (N9519) and ZTE all but vanquished any type of access to the bootloader. It's virtually nonexistent and that's not a joke by any means. So my phone is extremely hard to root. If you'd like to give it a go, just let me know because I just got my hands on a Galaxy Note 5 for free that I'm about to switch to and I don't care much for the ZTE. I actually recently won $60 on a bet between myself and a friend of mine who has rooted every phone he's ever touched that he wouldn't be able to root my Warp 7. I thought that my pockets were going to be $60 lighter but I was wrong. I can't say that I can pay you or that its even worth your time, but if you can get my ZTE rooted for the sole purpose of sticking it to the man (ZTE in this case) I'd definately love for my phone to be your guinea pig. It's better than my other plans for the device which may or may not include mailing it to ZTE in a bag filled with urine and feces. -.-
