Hi everyone
So after 3 years of use, this started happening to my Xiaomi Mi5 yesterday... out of nowhere... wasn't doing anything different... the screen just started showing artifacts...
I opened it up and there was nothing wrong with the flat cable or anything else... tried disconnecting the screen, battery but nothing worked so I guess I need to replace the LCD... I doubt this is software related as it happens during boot as well...
Now the question is where to find a GOOD quality LCD screen... In Aliexpress and Ebay the opinions are totally mixed between "crap" and "worth it" so I really don't know where to get one. Do you guys have any recommendations?

Hey! Cracked the screen on my mi5 and had to replace the LCD too. Bought it from aliexpress. Quality isnt number one but it gets the job done. Though there is some yellowish black tint on the left side as seen in the picture.

i was expecting LGE. original has jde, sharp and even lge. best display panels are from jde, and even sharp are good. lge display comes third, not as good as jde. i havent seen sharp yet, i have compared jde & lge, and they have quality difference. jde was sharp in color.

Im still awaiting a case/protection for my nexus 5, and until i have some protection for it its not yet my main phone, however ive been using it at home, and ive just noticed a mark under the screen, which could be a dead pixel or dust

outlined in red ( phots not that great but you can see the mark that doesn't move regardless of whats on screen) - highly irritating now i know its there, my eyes are drawn to it. would this be a RMA job?
Yeah, its kind of tough when it's near the middle of the screen like that. It really depends on how much it bothers you. Mine just came in the mail an hour ago and after playing around a little, noticed 1 small dead pixel on bottom right of screen. It's kind of gray, not black. But I'm not really noticing it, I have to really look for it and even then it's hard to see. My phone is otherwise perfect - no vibration issues, power button is solid, etc. I think I'll just keep it.

Yeah I would rma it. That would do definitely bother me.

I have a speck of something in almost exactly the same place. RMA won't be shipped until December 3. Hope the replacement doesn't have this issue.

its a dead pixel, mate
Its dead pixels. I had two of this massive dead pixels on my iphone 5 and the apple genius guys replaced it with a new one.
You should definately RMA it and get it replaced. I was planning to buy a nexus 5 myself but have been getting negative feedback on the speaker quality and the dead pixels issue hence I think I will either wait for the LG G2 Mini or something else.
Friend of mine asked me to repair his galaxy s4 screen, well after taking a good look at it i think it might be a knock off or (clone). My concern is if I purchase a OEM part for a galaxy s4 im pretty sure its not going to be the same part.
The screen is cracked where i cant get into the settings menu so unable to tell the version of android it is on or verify the phone model. I included a few pictures hope i can get some help.
Basicly my question is what phone model is this if it isnt the S4 or how can I find out.
Thanks,
Kory

Highly doubt it's real. A real S4 would have Samsung branding on the battery. It has dual SIM capabilities so that says it was made in, and for a Chinese area. The micro SD on an official S4 is not in that position. The front screen looks cheap, as well as the back plastic. I am pretty sure it's a clone, or Samsung just dramatically reduced its quality for its lower-income markets in foreign countries
Edit: Also, the font is not stock. Course one can change the font, but I assume the user didn't. Fake phones tend to have different fonts
a real galaxy s4 doesnt look like this .....I found an s4 with triple sim slots and , again , it doesnt look like that . I agree.... its fake

thanks for the reply i had my doubts about it not being legit... here is the clone compared to my real S3 i paid 650$ for.
So now i just need to find out what kind of phone it is to replace the screen for my buddy.
I just got myself a XIaomi mi3
everything was fine i but two days into use I find myself at the eng of a nagging problem..
the bottom edge of the screen is dim compared to other edges , this is apparent mostly when you are viewing white pages.and the top edge is slightly brighter..im not sure whether i can say it is backlight bleed or not..but when i loaded a full screen black page..there was a bit more light coming out of top and bit less
MY question is this a problem worth replacing the phone..? i can live with this as its not much of a deal breaker for daily use..you dont notice it often
Does it have any impications on the life of LCD , battery life etc?
Here are some pics i tried ,but the camera is poor and i dont think i was really able to capture the issue ..but i you look closely you can see the difference between top and bottom edges [top is left side btw]

no way i would "live" with any problem like that on a phone i just bought. if nothing other than being annoyed it doesnt look like it should, i would be worried constantly that it will get worse or spread.
if it were mine, it would have gone back the second i noticed that.
yeah thanx for the reply man ,which is exactly what im doing..hoping the new device doesnt have issues
Display bleed issue

Does replacement Mi3 have bleeding issue too?
Seems it's a bit common, the replacement does have it but compared to the original one it's far less
You will notice it if you look for it., using the phone for over 2 months
No problems otherwise
I have replaced a broken screen on a Nexus 5 that I have purchased, and it's fine apart from a very noisy/grainy front facing camera. Is this normal? Or do I need to re-attach camera again or replace it? I am running stock firmware (lollipop)
Any help on this would be appreciated!
Thanks :good:
Bump....
Mind to upload an example?
who replaced your screen btw?
Yes I will take a screenshot and upload. I replaced the screen
Sounds like the camera, or back of screen may be grubby, but as above says screenshot plse

Here is a comparison......between image quality.....hopefully you can see the grainyness.

Well it's not grubby on the screen, it's noisy across the whole image, so it makes me think its an electronic issue rather than visual.
TBH I blew them up to full size and it looks OK. Noise as you know shows more in low light. If it was not an OEM replacement could be poor glass. Try another camera app to see if it's software. I'd go with poor glass, which you are stuck with. Where did you get it?

That is the stock camera app, haven't got anything else installed on it at the moment. I bought it from seller on aliexpress.
So you think it's the glass rather than a camera issue?
Thanks
Yes. You changed it and this happens. I meant try another camera app, but I'd say 99.99% it's the glass
Sent from my Nexus 5
Thanks for that. Well that's pretty frustrating, I guess I will have to live with it, I'm tempted to take it apart and see how it is without the glass.
Last night while using my phone in the dark, the brightness set down low, I noticed on sites that were darker themed that there is an odd anomaly in my screen. There is a line (that reminds me of a hair, maybe an eyelash) that only shows when the brightness is low. I was able to take a picture of it with my girlfriends G3, though it's much more noticeable when you're using the phone, as it's stationary when you scroll.

This is my first Super AMOLED screen in a while, but I don't remember anything like this before.
If it truly bothers you i'd see if your carrier will exchange it for you. I had a notification light go out and tmobile exchanged it forb $5. You'Lloyd get a refurbished device, but eliminate this issue.

Just exchange. Next time look at the one you are getting in the store more carefully.

You realize the lights are so bright in store something like this would never show up, right?
Actually, those spots are not considered a defect in Samsung's eyes. The spots are the nature of producing amoled screens. My old PSVita(3g wifi) model are riddled with these ink spots that are only visible on a black background in a very dark environment. Also my s3 and s4 had them. Not all of them has these spots and some are more prevalent than others. It's just the luck of the draw when it comes to this matter.
