No future updates? - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Anyone know if Huawei has officially stopped updating the Honor 8? Firmware Finder hasn't had anything new on it since December which seems longer than usual.

I think it's the end... :crying: 2 years of updates, 2 main android version updates done...
EDIT: NOT THE END!! Chinese models got February 2019 Google Security update! Nice surprise!

Sad to hear - it's really annoying you cannot expand the notifications on the lockscreen...

Are any of the ROMs people have ported ready for prime time? Calls/SMS/WiFi/Bluetooth/.Fingerprint reader/...IR blaster all working?
It's kind of a bummer to need to get a new phone for software/security updates when the hardware is still really nice (outside of 3D games which aren't important to me on my phone).

I never even got December 2018. Latest I got was April 2018

Everything works, but the Pie version of OmniROM has some lag in animations.

Well, if animations is the problem (I haven't find any lag) you can simply disable them on dev options

Just a quick update. Honor release 8.0.0.540 for Chinese version 3 days ago... I hope we will receive it soon on our versions

Of course they did. I'm on Android 9 (Omni Pie from Openkirin Team), but you can go on the safe road and install an Android 8.1 rom that comes with less bugs (as OmniPie is actually in Beta stage). However every OpenKirin rom is surprisingly smooth, fast and very functional. You will have working camera (EMUI camera), wifi, ril, bluetooth, gps, fingerprint (10/10 works very good) and so on. Plus you'll have all the benefits from the customuzation options merged in the roms (or you can do on your own that). My advice is to try. Even with some little bugs you will not regret EMUI stock. BTW i'm on 5 February Security Patches on Pie

Google is already testing its next Android KitKat update, according to a tweet posted by @LlabTooFeR,*who has accurately reported on the mobile industry in the past. The update, Android 4.4.3, allegedly carriers the build number KTU72B and may fix a number of things, but will reportedly also focus on a camera bug in the Nexus 5. That phone has been constantly knocked for having a mediocre camera, and earlier updates have tried to fix issues.
In fact, way back in December Google launched Android 4.4.1 which was supposed to clean up the Nexus 5 camera. It still isn’t quite up to snuff, however, and earlier this month Google promised that an update*with a fix for the camera was on the way. We think it’s also possible that Google could just issue an update for that specific phone, instead of dedicating an entire Android release for a single device, so it’s possible there are other performance enhancements and tweaks under the hood that we just don’t know about yet.
So far it sounds like Android 4.4.3 is relatively minor, which means you won’t have to fret if you’re picking up a new flagship that might not receive an update for many more months. The next major update probably won’t come until June, when Google may introduce it during its annual I/O developers conference.

Nice, that means that we can expect a new version in the repositories of CM, Omnirom etc. quite soon!

Im thinking (hoping) we will get a new camera app, Google acknowledged the Nexus 5 camera bug and maybe it's just a conspiracy theory of mine, but the New HTC One (M8) has a lot of camera features in sense , not to mention the depth sensor and they said they were working with google to support it on the Google Play Edition of the M8 , and this version just happens to be released in 2-3 weeks, you can just preorder it, what do you guys think?
Man they spit them out fast

Ha. You never know. Hopefully, we will see some awesome spike in camera performance... Not on the HTC One M8 level, but certainly a boost...
Now if only they could fix the Moto G camera... Hahaha.
Hope that this update makes the camera better, that is the only thing I think anyone could complain.

Anybody is using EMUI 5.1 Beta?

I see about new EMUI 5.1 beta on the funkyhuawei release today.
Is this true? Anybody is using?
I have middle east MHAC185 phone so I need to do rebrand to China to install?
Is it recommendable? Battery life is better from MHA-L29C185B172?

It is true, but it is not recommended, cause beta version.
I'm on the beta via FunkyHuawei...honestly, it doesn't feel like a beta at all! I have yet to experience any issues. Definitely feels more responsive than 5.0 for sure.
Mine, original MHA-AL00C00

imei for free ?
Does it have any new features? I am particularly interested in the camera having the portrait mode, which was added to P10.
Also keen to know what other new feature there are and how much better is the responsiveness?
New beta MHA-AL00C00B205 released and listed in funkeyhuawei.
No new features to speak of really that I've encountered. I've moved to the US version beta, and the battery life is much improved over the 5.1. Touch latency might be a slight bit better in the 5.1 beta, but overall the US one is pretty damn fast and responsive. Definitely the the reliably fastest Android phone I've had (and my other phone is a OP 3T.)

Issues with MHA-L29C185B172 update
From the solid 16 -18 hours battery life, it has crashed to 6-8 hours only after the update. The phone is also getting heated up many times.
No support or response from HiCare.
Will a factory reset help?

Ulefone official website claims that Ulefone power 3 will have the update of Android 8.1 very soon in March, 2018 and some Chinese retailer, like Coolicool, has advertised in their home page too. Any ideas?
Customer Support told me it was planned for May (they said they need to wait for permission from Google...
does anybody know about root for current version?
i 'think' i got the bootloader unlocked via adb and unlock bootloader. the end result was bootloader unlocked but i didnt get to check it yet.
I really hope they fix the camera on the Oreo update, because it is really ****. I really love the rest of it, but the camera is so bad that it is a totally dealbreaker for me.
4 days left... how can it be May when they website still says March?
web site is missleading i guess they have writedown their estimation i guess.
Can you guys recommend me a case for Ulefone Power 3, the ones i could found are too cheap, anything like this? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Wol...Mobile-Phone-Case-For-Huawei/32784085576.html
Thank you.
Ulefone Power 3 will get Android Oreo upgrade in June.
You can check official information here: https://www.ulefoneshop.com/blog/ulefone-power-3-official-android-oreo-8-update-faq/
Ulefone released another teaser video of the Power 3 and 3S for the Oreo 8.1 Update.
https://youtu.be/7L9RNZmFlZ8
It was published May 14th:
As we promised before, the 6080mAh Ulefone Power 3 is getting Android 8.1 Oreo update. After the beta testing stage is over, the Oreo system on the Power 3 is stable and works perfectly well. The all-new Oreo system combined with the Power 3’s high-end MTK6763 octa-core processor and 6080mAh battery capacity delivers a smoother, faster and more energy-efficient overall performance. The final version of Android Oreo will be rolled out via OTA as long as a new GMS certification is approved.
Currently waiting for their GMS certification with Google.
Well it is now nearly at the end of July and still have no Oreo update........
when this phone will get update 8.0?
Any news?
Hi guys,
My Ulefone Power 3 brought from China in Dec 2017, suddenly no longer wants to focus on the main camera.
I tried different applications for the camera and no one focus anymore.

GCam developer BSG is working on a GCam version that will support some Huawei (Kirin) devices!

I believe this is huge news, especially if the GCam devs could get it to work on devices like Huawei P40 series!!
My P40 Pro is currently being repaired (bricked) so can't really test this private BSG GCam build at the moment.
I should get my P40 Pro back in a couple days, so I will be testing this soon!! Of course I cannot share the private build, since it's for donators only and I don't want to be banned from the group and being able to test future builds...
No promises on what works and what doesn't, though. In fact I don't even know if the GCam app will launch correctly, but fingers crossed!
Also, of course if anyone has already tested it, I would appreciate some comments saying if the app even works or not. Thanks.
This might be a really good news, if they will get it to work
Please test it and update us as soon as you get your device repaired

Hi guys. Got my P40 Pro back from repair today.
So I tested the most recent private builds from BSG, and unfortunately the app crashes immediately. I think the BSG devs are still working on a version that will be compatible with some Huawei phones. No idea if the P40 Pro will be one of them. We just have to be patient, and we'll see.

Last I heard, the Kirin version is still planned. Unfortunately no idea how much longer it will take, and on what Huawei phones it will work.

It will never work until Huawei implement Camera2api, which they're not interested in doing.

I don't have the phone to test this update. But Samsung is really doing commendable job with updating so many of its phone lineup to let user taste different flavours of Android.
I know hasty decisions may lead to buggy software but I would say let us give Samsung a chance to improvise the taste of Android.
It's even beating the very maker of Android in delivering software updates.
Soooo... I got the update today... and I must say that this definitely feels better optimized than Android 12, there's still a little lag here and there when playing a game and then switching to something else (multitasking) however this definitely feels better, great job!
How's the ui?lagging?
In the US, no update yet.
Stil laggy?
Might be slightly less laggy but I wiped it after the update. But still not great.
