Rate this thread to express how well you can see the Xiaomi Mi 9's display outdoors. In case you've been playing Minecraft for 18 months straight, you might not known how to get outside anymore. Well, find the door and walk through it. A higher rating indicates that it has very high maximum brightness and thus fantastic outdoor visibility in direct sunlight.

The display is so bright outside that it is a bit too bright. I sat under a beach umbrella in the shade and wanted to push the slider back to 80% but he went back to 100%. I tried it 3 times but the slider did not stay there. then I had to turn off the automatic brightness.
I give 5 stars, because I did not have such a bright screen yet.
No worries that I could not see anything on my mobile phone in the sunlight.
I would wish that the slider remains at 80% if I push it there manually.
If you are coming from LCD you notice straight away how vibrant and bright the colors are. No problems whatsoever (even with sunglasses on).
Mi9-the best phone on the market!
Execllent
I think it's a bit too low, fortunately on MIUI the auto contrast feature helps a lot

Gets really bright, not as bright as Note5.
It may not be the very best according to some but I can perfectly see the screen without having to cover the phone from the sun while wearing my polarized sun glasses. This is with adaptive display turned on.

No complaints... Better than I expected after reading some reviews
Yes
yes it has a gr8 screen
Really struggle compared to previous phones.
I have htc m8
..I see this one better and it's sunny at the moment of writing this. I guess if you're coming from a Samsung s6

Not overly bothered either way, comparison was against an S5 which I thought was marginally better.

When I got my 6p, my screen was a, sort of, two-tone. A light pink hue in the top left of my screen, that faded diagonally, to a bottom right, bluer hue. I was about to rma, even called Huawei. (Let's hope no one has to go through them) I thought it may be the back light calibration. So I downloaded lux, and voila, my colors were evenly distributed across my screen. And in turn, added a lil brightness outdoors. I turned lux off and my calibration is correct now. My screen, to me, looks a lil richer now and is pretty impressive. I'm coming from the Note 4 too.

Better than the N6 when viewing in the sunlight...
Nice screen. Still prefer Note 5 screen.
it bright enough for me. I can see the screen in full daylight fine.
Coming from a Galaxy S4, the 6P gets More brighter, and More dimmer than the S4. Was not expecting this great of a screen after reading all the posts. Unlike the S4, your eyes wont hurt when you wanna read something in bed with the lights off!
readability
I know this is the wrong place to ask but does anybody has som feeling how the display is compared to Iphone 6 Plus in brightness outdoors?

Totally can relate. I came from an S4 and I noticed the brightness difference immediately.

same here! love this phone.
I feel like I'm doing something wrong, because my experience has been the complete opposite of what everyone is saying here. The screen is fine indoors or out of direct sunlight, but in direct sunlight it's crazy hard to see. I have adaptive brightness off, and the brightness setting cranked. Just prior to this phone I'd tried out the Moto X Style, and while every review I read knocked that phone for its display, I feel like outdoor viewing was significantly better, and it didn't have any of the blotchy/uneven/pink hued issues that amoleds apparently have.
Outdoor visibility is extremely poor. Worse than my Nexus 5
Also really poor sunlight visibility here. RMA?
Adaptive Brightness
My 6p is bright enough for outside, but I have to be careful not to cover the sensor or the adaptive brightness will dim the screen.

Poor like on a sunny day you can't see what's in the view finder for the camera app? Cause I've never experienced that and I'm with Adaptive Brightness on 35%. It could be brighter but definitely not poor.

Really bright and vivid screen. Super shiny though so at times it can be hard to see the screen because of the reflections.
No viewing issues till date as the screen does crank up very high outdoors.
Outdoor visibility is great especially with Samsung their contrast that changes when it notices your in a bright lit area
These days i'm on the beach and the max brightness kicks in for ~2min from standby then it returns to normal brightness and i struggle to see on the screen. Thats in direct sunlight. I dont know why and how to enable to max when in sunlight.its very disappointing. Its from the heat? I use auto brightness and max brightness kicks in for a couple of min but then it dims and i cant use it . When i adjust the bar it says optimised for sun visibility. But it clearly isnt. All this in normal use.browsing ,some photos,whatsapp...
So for me its disapointing. This is when i need the max brightness most and it let me down
Been using the phone for over a year now in a Tropical Country and even in direct sunlight I have absolutely no issues with the brightness. The phone automatically cranks the display upto it's full potential when it senses a bright environment. Really can't expect it to be any better.

Gets super bright, absolutely gorgeous unit of a display even under direct sun light!

My brightness is so much brighter than my S8 and my Note 8.
The S10e screen is phenomenal in the sun compared to those
Turn on the auto brightness so it can hit the maximum.
Change the color for the display to Vivid instead of Natural if outdoors because it has a wider color gamut and will show better.
I prefer natural but if I need to read outdoors I change it. You can notice it on the boosted auto brightness max.

Turn on auto brightness, S10e display is much brighter and less reflective than Mate 9...
I am considering getting one of these so this is good to know.
The auto brightness outdoors works relatively well. It just might be my phone or my eyes, but it appears more orange/red when it's on full auto-brightness
Absolute no issues with display quality

Outdoor visibility is not very good. Even at maximum brightness you will find yourself focusing your eyes to read what's on the screen.
Has anyone measured the nits for this phone?
on gsm arena there is a review with technical data.....447 nits
Bad outdoor visibility
You will noticed the screen is soo bad under outdoor situation.
I'm not sure with other people's experience but my phone's display is SO VERY BAD. Its very difficult to see the screen under direct sun light.
Mine also same. Very bad to see under direct sun light.
Hey ! I have the realme xt now for 3 days and I would like to add my review about that subject.
Since I use it, I've founded the outdoor visibility very awful, even in max brightness. I had to hardly focus on the screen to be able to read something... I come from a redmi note 7, and I begun to wonder if I did the good choice...
So I wanted to find out why the screen was so bad, when I realized that the battery saving mode was on ! And as soon as I turned it off, the screen came back to a normal brightness. Now when I compare it to my redmi note 7, the realme xt brightness is slightly better !!
It's pretty stupid, but maybe my message can help.
So now I don't find that the outdoor visibility is as bad as some people here are saying. Depending on which phone you compare maybe...
And for the price the phone is awesome by the way !
