Device- Xiaomi Redmi 4x(Santoni)
ROM- Havoc OS
Custom Recovery- Red Wolf (Unofficial Version)
I'm having trouble booting into custom recovery. I have already flashed custom recovery, disabled stock recovery replace. Power button+volumed down button boots me into stock recovery. But if booted into recovery from advanced reboot then I can perfectly custom recovery. How can I make my device boot into custom recovery by just pressing power button+volume down button?!
Please help.
Thanks.

It would help if you posted which device you have, we can't give you an accurate or definitive answer if we don't know what device model number you have.
On most devices, typically, it is volume up+power to boot into recovery.
Volume down+power typically boots into bootloader mode, download mode or some other type of flashing mode intended for flashing stock firmware on the device.

Press volume UP+power, when you see the Mi logo, release the power button but continue holding the volume up button, do not release volume up when you release the power button.

If it didn't work, you probably have some kind of issue because the instructions I gave you are correct for your device.

I figured it out. Tried volume up+volume down+power button and booted successfully into custom recovery. Didn't know about this. Thanks for your help, mate.

Strange, that combination is usually used to boot some devices into safe mode.
But, at least you figured it out.

Has anyone discovered a way to enter recovery without using ROM Manager? Like on other phones, we can hold down the volume and power buttons and it'll do it, but that only resets the G2x. Other options? All Google Apps were erased from stock when my phone crashed, so I have no way to restore the stock I have saved on my SD card.
Did you use NVFlash to flash CWM? If so, then you can indeed boot into recovery by holding the volume down and power buttons simultaneously. Just hold them for about 10 to 15 seconds and it should boot into recovery and not factory reset your phone.

Booting into ClockworkMod Recovery
Power off your phone.
Hold Vol Down + Power.
Keep holding them, as soon as you see "ANDROID" in Green with the new boot logo let go of the buttons.

Not included. It seems to be removed from the CWM recovery
I've experienced this as well, and what I can recommend is just try it again, only press the vol down and home button first before pressing the power button. to make sure less errors are had press from the lowest portion of the vol down button.
I remember that the kernel must be flashed with odin or i'm wrong??

Yep it must be flashed with odin, but you have to enter in download mode to do that via pc
another alternative is flash the kernel via odin mobile, I've done it several times and have not had any problems
try to enter download mode thorugh cwm icon
or if you have cyagnomed rom
then if you want to enter ur mode here the steps
connect your device with your pc
turn of ur mobile
take off battery
press down volume + home + power button and then enter the battery while you are pressing ..
just rooted my one x
followed the steps here to install TWRP recover
but what i cant figure out is how to use it exactly.. from the project page it looks to be an app
and yes i am new to this **** lol
you can go to recovery using bootloader ( power off and press power +vol down ).. or use below command through adb ( device connected to pc ) - adb reboot recovery
Not good if you think custom recovery is just some app. You should do research and learn the importance and usage of custom reocvery.

im new to rooting too. i also did the above but i thought it was (volume up + home button+ power button= recovery mode) ?
No, the correct combo is volume down + power to get to the bootloader, then select recovery from the menu (using the volume keys to move the cursor and the power key to select).

First, before you do anything, read about what TWRP is and maybe watch some videos about the features or something so you don't come back with a formatted sdcard and no idea what to do

It seems that you are getting your information from the wrong source. That is the completely wrong button combo, and keep in mind that every Android device has different button combos.
On this device, its power+vol down (release power after a few seconds, but keep holding vol down until the white screen comes up) to get into bootloader. From bootloader, select recovery. There is no button combo to boot directly into recovery.
Don't follow directions for other devices.
Hello, i have GOCLEVER QUANTUM 700, i forgot my pattern code, i need factory reset from boot loader but i can go to bootloader, i try volume up and power on button holding but its not working, please if you can help me
Recovery
To do a hard reset you must enter recovery. not bootloader.
To enter recovery power off your device and turn it on by holding VOL + and POWER in the same time.
If you don't enter recovery try holding both VOL + and VOL - and POWER.
If that doesn't work try VOL - and POWER.
One of the three should get you into recovery.
In recovery you can do a hard reset.

Every android phone/tablet has a recovery partition. You just get to it differently.
Try every possible button combination until you get into recovery.
Once you are in recevory select wipe data partition and you are good to go.
I try every possible way

Can you remember if you enabled ADB debugging in settings? If it is enabled it is very easy to go into recovery and I will tell you.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 (SM-T700) and I want to install TWRP using Heimdall. It seems like I can flash TWRP in download mode (blue bar appears).
However, now I cannot immediately boot into TWRP. If I press power + volume down the device reboots into system, after that I can only boot to the stock recovery. I followed the tutorial on how to install LineageOS: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/klimtwifi/install
Is there way how I can boot straight to TWRP recovery after flashing it in download mode?

It isn't volume down+power. Volume down is meant to boot into download mode.
Recovery is volume UP+home+power
Or volume UP+power(if you have no home button)

Thanks for your quick reply! It looks like the only button combination you can do when you are in download mode is power + volume down. Then, when the screen turns off, immediately switch to power + volume up + home. This will cause the device to boot into TWRP recovery.

Yes, power off and then use the correct button combination. The various button combinations for the various bootable modes only work when starting from the powered off state, the fact that you needed to power off before using the correct combination "should" have been self-evident and self explanatory.
I was just letting you know the correct combination to boot recovery because you weren't using the volume up combination in your previous attempts, that is why you weren't getting into recovery.

I personally have struggled for a VERY long time to get TWRP working on a Sumsung device.
Most recently, I have used Magisk to patch boot.img that I was able to extract from the device.
Then I built a .tar.md file to flash that file along with the appropriate recovery.img using Odin.
Every thing went swimingly well and Odin stopped with a PASS.
However, when I rebooted the device, it boot looped in TWRP. System never got a chance to load.
I recovered by flashing the ENTIRE 3 .tar.md files using the same ODIN and everything recover and watch starts perfectly.
WTH could I have done wrong??
