You shouldn't believe everything you read. Help yourself. Try some of the 'old' methods. You'd be surprised Google might have forgotten to stop it and it still works.
Edit device name to 'Pixel 2 XL' and set the ro.opa.eligible_device to 'true' in your build.prop. Then clear Google App data and/or update to the latest beta, and you'll have Assistant on lens. Confirmed working a week ago.

Actually, you won't, not if you modify only 'ro.product.model' and 'ro.opa.eligible_device'.
Just did it and I've still got HDR+ with the controls.

Thanks. Stand corrected.
It took me a while to figure this out, so just in case it helps anyone else, this is how I did it with Magisk root:
I created a file in /magisk/.core/post-fs-data.d called pixel.sh
In the file I put:
#!/system/bin/sh
resetprop -n ro.product.model "Pixel 2 XL"
resetprop -n ro.opa.eligible_device "true"
then I set the permissions to rwxr_xr_x
Then I cleared google app data and rebooted.
I'm running the latest lineageos but I had it working on stock before the official lineageos 15 was released for the Nexus 6p
I have tried many APKs at https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/#apk195 and some others for OnePlus5/5T.
They are not working.
Anyone have a solution for this problem?
THX.
Also didn't manage to find a working app that gives the same quality like I had with gcmod5 on OP3 before yet
MGC_5.2.022 yields pretty good results for me.
Gcam doesn't work properly with SD845 yet.

WOW, I also installed this one. But I didn't get motion photo and portrait mode. Is there any setting for this version to open them?
I though it is suggested setting when u install it.

I think SD845 has been released for a while==
When will we get this feature.
Does MGC_5.2.022 have dots on photos?
m really confused, wheather should i go ahead and buy op6 or should i wait for improved op6t !!
at oneplus experience store, i clicked a lot of pics, but certainly i am not satisfied with the quality which we used to get in op3t !! with a gcam mod. It just blows away. M using IP7 as a spare phone and camera is pretty good, m not a iphone guy. hopefully someone find out to make camera better. specifically, portrait mode ported from google pixel 2 ! fingers crossed.
Any version of Gcam I tried doesn't work on the 6. HDR+ seems to be nonfunctional. Maybe it really just isn't compatible with the SD845

It is not working.
After selecting model. either Pixel or Nexus and restart the app, it pops up with error.
If you do not select any model, HDR just don't running.

Maybe after the Pixel 3 release.
With SD 845 doesn't work HDR+; so it's usefuy, for now.
I got Urikills version of gcam to process the HDR+-shot twice. After that, no go. Tried to reproduce but cant make it happen. Settings were Pixel / Nexus 6 auto hdr+ / super fine.
Just saying that there is hope.

Tried the new GoogleCamera-Pixel3Mod-Arnova8G2-V3.apk today. Instant crash
Let's be honest the 7 Pro is not a very good camera right now. We all know with OnePlus it will take a few updates to get the camera where we want it. I was wondering if the Gcam apk is a better alternative right now or is it still in development for the 7Pro??
Don't know about you guys, but I been taking really good photos with it. Stock app and not even Nightscape.

I'm using the OnePlus stock camera app.
There is a gcam thread further down the page.
The camera is brilliant, came from Huawei P20 Pro and did a blind test between them for some friends. The Huawei scored 0.
Could anyone share about the working GCam for ROG 5?
I haven't been able to find a working version yet either. Very much interested in this as well.
You can try gcam nikita

So you prefer one that doesn't work at all?
Try one of the ZenFone profiles.
I personally am using the Wichaya 8.1.101 v1.4 version without configs just fine. Rog Camera works better for some stuff but for the most part the gcam one is better.
I haven't had time to play with the configs for other devices yet but if I do I will let you know if things change.
You can't break anything trying out so give it a shot yourself if you have some time.
to use gcam you need to have root? that's too bad though
I am NOT rooted and using the g cam I mentioned above problem free. You need root to enable camera2api, but camera2api is enabled by default on ROG 5.

I had set some default config for those devices but for other parameters you have tune it yourself because I don't have the device.
Asus hardcoded the camera api as Level 3 so you don't need root. It's been like that since Rog 3
I haven't the slightest idea how to config this stuff haha. Anyone have a good file worth sharing?

Hello guys,

Most of GCAMs by default work with Google Photos, so if you're using a 3rd party gallery app, look through the settings on the app to disable the Google photo gallery only thing so you can use another gallery app... Plus if you're using HDR it normally takes more time for the photo be ready, so take that into account!
