Does anyone own both cases for the Note 9? If so can you please share the differences in each. I'm aware the commuter has a soft inner shell and dust covers. But that's all the difference that I'm aware of. Thanks.

I currently have the cruzerlite tpu case. I was dumb enough to get the clear one and its now a great shade of brown/yellow. Since I am in Canada with the shipping costs of most cases they all work out to be the same cost, so I figured I would grab something with a little more protection.
The whole reason I got the case in the first place was to give the phone a little more grip since the one x is a little slippy.
If I was looking for a case around the same bulk, with equal grip, and slightly better protection what would be the best choices currently?

I have the Commuter, it's decent, I'm trying the case-mate pop next.
But anyway I'd recommend a dual layer case like the speck candyshell
Amzer hard rubber case .

amzer snap on case or the silicone case?
Well I decided to get the Incipio Silicrylic, seems to be a good mix of looks and protection. Would the black or the grey look better with the white one x though?
Not a fan of the blue.

Wish I had seen this earlier. I just got the Seidio Active with the kickstand and love it. Protects the phone, and looks good while doing it. Couldn't recommend it more.
I'm actually kind of interested in the trident Aegis case I'm not sure if you've looked at that one.

Perhaps that is a reasonable choice for those taking their phone to the battlefield. For the rest of us the commuter seems like a drastic overkill.
When I got my HOX I test drove the Incipio Feather and NGP. The Feather was too minimal and a bit slippery. I love the NGP.
I just got the otterbox defender case and I really like it but I dont like the built in screen protector. I have a zagg invisible shield on it and it makes the screen look funky with both. So my question is... has anyone removed the built in screen or should I remove the zagg. Im not worried about dust getting in, I'm more worried about drop protection.

You can take out the defender protector.. I did it with my s3.. It actually pops out fairly easy

+1 on popping out the built in protector.
trust me, once dust starts making its way under the screen, you'll wonder why you didn't earlier.
Have done this with every otterbox I've owned. Use a regular or glass protector instead and get the best of both protection and clarity.

Anyone find any rugged style cases with port covers besides otterbox and trident cases? I personally like trident the most but my current one has a built in screen protector and the oil slick drives me nuts. Thanks

The Seidio Active Case or Convert Combo is a great case option.
ACTIVE - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oadnZWJXiUU&feature=youtube_gdata_player
CONVERT (GS3 video but still same concept) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rJ_ElNd5OY&feature=youtube_gdata_player

I was thinking of getting the Spigen Slim Armor, but the lip seems so small... Maybe the Incipio DualPro? I don't know what will be compatible so if you guys have compatible cases please post. Thanks.

All cases are compatible!
I have glas.tr slim and I use otterbox commuter with it alternating with Trident aegis and spigen slim armor in blue.
All work great and I bet others of them should work great too!

I have the slim armor and ringke fusion and it works great with the glass protector I have. It's a generic one but they are all mostly the same except cutouts and branding.

Yea!
I'll be ordering the eclipse as I sometimes tend to miss calls if my phone is kept on a very soft surface that seals the speaker.
And an electra case for travel purposes

I had casemate toughs on both my S2 & S3 and the S4 version just doesn't provide the same protection.
The hard shell on the previous version came up to protect the rim and thereby I could place phone screen down effectively on hard case. S4 version has rubber only above rim.....
Any alternatives?

UAG.
You can tell they have shifted focus from protective cases to shiny ****ty ones by looking at their website. Real shame I loved the tough case. All the designer **** is terrible.

UAG won't do it for me as it's a one piece case, the whole reason the CMT was the dogs was the rubber inner and seperate hard shell outer.
This allows some compression/deceleration if a drop occurs and that can make the difference between cracked or working LCD.
Any other alternates?

try the spigen neo hybrid, I have it and it's not bad, just doesn't play well with non stock chargers. The spigen ultra slim isn't bad either. just got that.

Well then let me know if you find a better alternative. I was a Tough user for my S2 too, loved it. I am gonna pull the plug on the UAG in a week if I don't find any better. Spigen cases (all of them) are horrible, I want 'protection', not show off!
The Trident Aegis is my case of choice. Rubber inner and polycarbonate shell.

Ballistic SG max? Too thick for me but it is a dual case. I have the ballistic aspira and love it.

The seidio convert case is pretty nice. Its actually 2 cases in one so if you dont feel like having the rugged case say if youre at home you can take it off and have the minimalist case underneath. Cant remember the name for that case tho haha.

In the end I've gone with the Otterbox Defender.
A bit chunkier then I'd like to be honest but it provides proper protection and for my very expensive phone that's what's important.
Defender? Wow, that's so heavy according to some people. How much extra weight does it add? Can you in/out the phone from pocket easily? I don't mean coat/blazer pocket.
I am using a seidio active, it is very protective but not too huge.

commuter is the best !
Commuter or Element Atom
Siedo acrive is too the nice case to go for.....
If you use the Defender without the belt clip there's no problems putting it into or taking it out of your pocket. I don't notice the extra weight to be honest but that could be because I'm 6' 2" and a big guy.
For me protection comes first and looks second, honestly I can't understand people who'd risk a $600+ ($1000 for me) loss + all the inconvenience for the sake of it looking marginally better.
Of course I don't want it to look like rubbish but protection always first.
